Criticisms now,I rather feel is doing him a favour by showing him areas where he critically needs to turn tins around and win over d populace.
U dnt do anybody a favor, evn a relation of yours if u hide his/her flaws.
Dude, there is a vast difference between criticism and malicious falsehood. Jonathans "flaws" already promise to take Nigeria much farther than any President in Nigeria's past has. Can you counter any of the facts I raised earlier?

Only a pack of fools will strive to tear down something thats of benefit to them, but the average Nigerian who is experiencing abundance of fuel, vastly improved electricity supply, freedom of information (FOI) etc, knows what they are feeling and they aren't fools. It is not for those who are abroad or who are ACN members (who have been invoking evil spirits on themselves at Isolo in Lagos LGA elections) to tell us what we want. It is not for any fool to tell us what we want and try to drag back the ship that is seeing progress for the first time ever in our chequered and best forgotten history.
If, and even if the Niger Delta Militants are able to deploy their forces in the north, they can never defeat BH. BH is empowered by the massive amount of sophisticated weapons missing from Gaddafi's arsenal and which is now probably in the hands of AQIM- a known BH ally. Alqaeda and Al Shabab will definitely be invited and then you shall all learn the meaning of fear.

The Militants will by their stupidity create a situation that will lead to the death of thousands of innocent civilians. Who among the militants is willing to die at any moment for his cause? None!!

One thing We have learned from experience is that, no matter how many BH members you kill, you can never destroy their ideology.

Mend, Please come to Borno for confrontation. They will send all of you back in body bags.
I guess you are in boko haram.
What are you fighting for, if not the freedom to remain id!ots? Other people are tired of you and it doesn't matter whether you employ weapons from Libya and angels from lucifer, you will still be defeated.

If the action of the militants leads to full scale war, then it would have boosted the chances of Nigeria developing, because you backward elements that take pride in places like Somalia will be crushed.

I really pray that successful and lasting programmes can be put in place to rehabilitate and educate the almajiri's. Theirs is a tale of child abuse and dehumanisation on an industrial scale. The disgraceful almajiri system in Nigeria really needs to come to an end; it is these dehumanised kids that swell the ranks of terrorist cults like boko haram.

Jonathan receives report on Boko Haram, vows to crush private militias
September 27, 2011 07:50PM

The Federal Government is embarking on measures to check the existence of private militias and breach of peace in the country.

President Goodluck Jonathan stated this in Abuja on Monday while receiving the final report of the Presidential Committee on Security Challenges in the North East Zone.

President Jonathan, who was represented by Vice-President Namadi Sambo, said that government had budgeted huge amount of money to address the problem of poverty and the existence of more than 9.5 million ‘Almajiris’ in the northern part of the country.

According to him, ₦4 billion has already been approved for the implementation of the second phase of the Special Boarding Primary Schools for the ‘Almajiris’.

“Some of the major issues you have stated regarding the issue of poverty, issue of unemployment, issues to do with breach of peace, existence of prevent militia. These are issues that this administration is looking at very seriously.

“You would recall that in the 2011 budget, a large sum of money has been provided to support the development of creation of jobs in this country.” President Jonathan assured that government would do all it could to ensure that lives and property of Nigerians were properly secured.

According to him, government will look at the report and act as a matter of urgency in implementing it.

“It is not going to be business as usual. This administration will act on all similar reports to ensure that justice is done,” he added.

He hasn't evn seen 1/1000th of what his mentor,Obama is seeing in d U.S and he's audibly grumbling alredy. How many trully independent tv,radio or opposition stations do we av in nigeria?D little criticisms he is getting is frm a few newspaper articles and part of d social media.
Uncle Jona,if u have 1/1000 of d halestorm of 'missiles' your gud friend and mentor,Obama is having back in d land of d free and bold,I bet u wud go down in history as d first nigerian president to resign his office.
The analogy fails. Obama is being criticised in a country where the rule of law applies, GEJ on the other hand is working thanklessly to save a failed state where anything goes.
In every failed state is bedevilled with societal breakdown; that in fact, is what GEJ is complaining about. In what country do normal people believe that shouting and being aggressive makes them seem intellectual?

GEJ: You know, these days, for you to be an intellectual and for people to listen to you, you have to abuse government.
Why?

The President goes on to say:

GEJ: . . .
There are Goliaths everywhere; very terrible Goliaths, the ones that can even kill their father, their mother and even their children in order to stop government. And they are willing to do it.
. . .
there are many people, especially politicians who do not want the government to make any “meaningful progress.”
. . .
You know, these days, for you to be an intellectual and for people to listen to you, you have to abuse government.
But. . .

GEJ: I don’t need to be a lion, I don’t need to be Nebuchadnezzar, I don’t need to operate like the Pharaoh of Egypt, and I don’t need to be an army general. I can change this country without those traits
And I say! Carry go, my Presido, we de your back, sir! cool
No shacking Nigerians must learn new ethics or sink with the nation. No matter how hard GEJ tries, if the generality of sections of the population is too absorbed with brutish instincts, there will be little movement.

Pukkah:
The issue here is not as simple as you have put it.  Mr Jonathan may trounce Mr Buhari 1,000 times in an election but the issues are far deeper and more profound. One of the issues here is the Nigerian system which seems not to be able to produce the best of us to govern us, due to so many reasons. How did we end up with those two folks that you mentioned as the front-runners of the last election?

For the benefit of our country, let's stay on this article and try to engage ourselves on the far-reaching problems which are keeping this country down and preventing it from achieving what those 4 countries would likely achieve by 2015.  How come Nigeria was not mentioned?  What can we do to achieve the MDGs? Are we willing and able to do those things?

In the honest and objective process of doing this, Mr Jonathan (as the President) might get mentioned and criticized.  This is not enough to call anyone professional pessimists or other unsalutary names because doing so will not solve the problem.  In fact, doing so is tantamount to evading the issue and throwing a smokescreen over the matter at stake.

I doubt if there's any sincere/patriotic Nigerian who doesn't want Jonathan to succeed but it's not a crime to guide, critique and be hard on him, when necessary, in order to achieve this. There's absolutely no reason for Nigerians, given the level of suffering and the pace at which so many countries are moving, to be shy of this except they are ignorant/not exposed, too tired to care/bother or have been compromised.
Fair enough, but I wonder what part the telling of bare faced lies, fraud and deceit have to play in your assessment, because that is what most of the "guidance" and "criticisms" are? As for being hard on him, what sort of reaction would you call boko haram? Hard or beyond the pale?
Dude, I don't doubt that you mean well for the country, but you've got to open your eyes and see around the corners, so that you do not  unwittingly aid the battle of evil against progress.

Most people don't have the slightest clue about how the country was structured from day one to fit into the pockets of a select group of ex-generals and their cronies forever, and most are too lazy or blinded by bigotry to dig deep and find out why the reactions to GEJ from the country's elite are so extreme. I will list just four areas:
[li]Improving power supply (research what that has done to the generator mafia and transformer sellers)[/li]
[li]Pushing uncompromisingly for the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB) against international and local vulture interests (research who really owns Nigeria and why)[/li]
[li]Metering oil pumps at the point of lifting and moving aggressively to meter oil wells. In the past, Rilwanu Lukman or some other mallam would crawl on their belly to Shell to ask how much oil Nigeria had drilled for the day; Shell would pass a brown envelope under the table and give any figure, then tell the official where to go for bunkering, Shell would get their cut from drilling free oil and the Nigerian fool would get obscenely rich from the mortgaging of the country (research what this has done to big time bunkerers like IBB, Atiku etc)[/li]
[li]Making fuel available and at the right price (research what this has done to petroleum black-marketers and "fuel subsidy" collectors)[/li]
Who has dared do any of these in the past? Who dared face the mafia's in the past? Nobody. Yet you find all sorts of ill-bred clowns with the morals of a dung heap lining up to call GEJ unsalutary names, as if they were brought up by Neanderthals in the worst pigsty.

GEJ is moving this country in a direction it has never gone before, but many are too willingly unintelligent to be able to tell that the ship has swung full circle and is finally headed in a positive direction, so they fight the person that's helping them on the path they always wanted to tread. Shameful really.

By OLASUNKANMI AKONI & IFEANYI OKOLIE

IKEJA—Ahead of the October 22 local government election in Lagos State,  hundreds of aggrieved members of the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, yesterday,  stormed the party secretariat in Ogba, Lagos State House of Assembly, Alausa, and took to the major streets in Isolo Local Government Area to protest alleged imposition of candidates.

The state party had, Monday, released the names of candidates to be fielded in the council polls in the 20 local government areas and 37 local council development areas.

The protesters, who accused state party chairman, Chief Henry Ajomale, of not following due process, called on the party’s National Leader, Senator Bola Tinubu, Governor Babatunde Fashola and members of the state assembly to intervene immediately. failing which they would disrupt the polls.

Also, major streets in Isolo LCDA   witnessed massive protest as aggrieved residents, traditional chiefs and politicians stormed the Osolo of Isolo palace to register their grievances.

Market women and men, including traditional cult, popularly known as “Osugbo” trooped to the streets to invoke evil spirits at a junction called “Orita Esu” (devil’s junction) in Isolo with various placards to show their grievances against the imposition of one Shamsudeen Olaleye, against the popular choice of Mojeed Adam as the party’s candidate for the coming council poll.

The protesters, who walked from Isolo Bus- Stop to the palace of Osolo of Isolo, Oba Kabiru Agbabiaka, said the party did not hold primaries but arbitrarily chose Olaleye, the incumbent chairman, as the candidate for the forthcoming election.

Tinubu’s trial vindicates Gani Fawehinmi’
By Ifedayo Adebayo
September 23, 2011 01:54PM

An Abuja-based Non Governmental Organisation, Society for Rule of Law of Nigeria (SRLN), has described the trial of former governor of Lagos State, Bola Tinubu, by the Code of Conduct Tribunal as a vindication of the stance of the late human rights lawyer, Gani Fawehinmi (SAN).

The group said in a statement signed by its Coordinator, Chima Ubeku that “Gani Fawehinmi would be happy in his grave now. As we look at Tinubu in the dock, our minds went back to that day at Igbosere, Lagos, where legal icon, Gani Fawehinmi, was pelted with sachets of ‘pure water’ by hoodlums sponsored by Tinubu.

“Our minds also went back to that human rights lawyer, who masterminded the shameful act just because of a few millions of Naira.

“We wonder where those who lined up behind Tinubu then will be hiding their faces were Gani Fawehinmi to be alive.” Referring to when the late legal luminary was pursuing charges against Mr Tinubu, the group stated that the truth had finally been revealed and that Nigerians who love the country genuinely must be missing Gani Fawehinmi now.

“If he were to be alive, he would have offered to prosecute Tinubu free of charge as he tried to do in 1999 when it was made public that Tinubu lied on his academic certificates, on which he (Tinubu) sponsored hoodlums to attack Gani.

“However, we are consoled by the reality that 12 years after Gani was humiliated at Igbosere, Lagos, Tinubu is now being tried for offences for which he (Gani) wanted him (Tinubu) tried in 1999.”

Friday, 23 September 2011

A cross-section of residents of Gusau, the capital of Zamfara State have commended the PHCN for enhanced power supply to the state.

The residents urged the PHCN management to sustain the feat, saying that they would never oppose any increase in tariff if the electricity supply remained steady.

One of the electricity consumers, Malam Bello Musa, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that President Goodluck Jonathan should give priority attention to efforts to fulfil his campaign promises, particularly those relating to stable power supply.

Musa stressed that steady power supply would help a lot in reviving closed or moribund industries across the country, adding that this would consequently create more jobs for the people, while improving the people’s living standards.

A housewife, Hajiya Larai Bala, however, expressed some reservations about the improved power supply situation.

``It is too early to make comments on it now; we need more time to see if the supply will remain stable,’’ she said.

Another consumer, Malam Ibrahim Tukur, however, said that the PHCN needed dedicated and honest officers to manage the affairs
