Don't!
Learn ASP.NET (preferably C#) or Java.

Also, avoid Classic ASP for the same reasons as you should avoid PHP (poor security, spaghetti code, productivity etc).

Go ASP.NET (preferably C#) or Java, and you know what? You'll even get paid more!

Likewise, even if they decide to allow the north to produce the next president, the tendency is that they either paved way for a northern traitor and their crony or else give the ticket to Vice President; the former option is more likely to materialize
They don't like Namadi Sambo, because he stopped religious rioting in Kaduna state. The almajiri army has been thrown into confusion.
Namadi Sambo is the exact sort of leader the new Nigeria and new North requires; Dahiru Yusuf Yabo can shed all the tears he can for the IBB's and Atiku's. . . They are wasted tears, the old North is Nigeria's biggest headache and impoverisher of their own kith and kin.

The old North must be defeated, so that a new North that is friendly and beneficial to Nigeria can take root.

Dark Clouds Over The North
Written by Dahiru Yusuf Yabo

When thick, dark clouds hover over the sky, all cognitive creatures scamper to safety and earnestly wait to see the outcome and even pray against any disaster that might come out of the uncertain clouds. This can rightly be said of the situation of Nigeria's north today. In fact, the north can be likened to a pig tied in shackles in an open field and when rain began to drizzle, it turned out to be hot water. Thus, the beast cannot escape despite the scathing hot water which is harmful to it. The hitherto powerful Northern region which is seen as a force to reckon with in the socio-political equation of Nigeria has lost its grip.

With the loss in political power by the by the north, it has become so vulnerable like a helpless orphaned teen. The challenges bedeviling the north today both within the region and in the Nigerian state, are so enormous that the future looks bleak as we march aimlessly into wilderness.

There is the chronic dearth of respectable leadership in the face of homeward challenges and eroding relevance at the centre. And because the north is too obsessed with power, any time the rudder slips away, it takes a serious toll on the region and bare its internal and external wounds.

The ascension of President Goodluck Jonathan to the office of the president following the demise of President Umaru Musa Yar’adua has yet again bring us to face the sad realities of this region. Some people who have ill-will against the north have plotted against us and as if we are blindfolded, we are forging earnestly toward the abyss constructed by our enemies. I am referring here to the much ado about the rotational presidency which was instituted by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) through which the then powerful north conceded the top leadership position to the South in the spirit of brotherhood and national integration.

However, on completing their full two terms of four years each, the south, with President Olusegun Obasanjo acting the script, chose to compensate that gesture of the north with evil by imposing a sick person perforce on the people of the north and by extension Nigerians. Though the time bomb took longer time than expected to explode, it finally did with the death of Umaru Yar’Adua on May 5. The plan of scuttling the north’s turn to enjoy power by having a sick person as the flag bearer has thus materialized. In fact, well before his death, at least after his first two years, Yar’adua ceased to be the man in charge. Technically speaking, the north only served for two years instead of the supposed four years of Yar’adua’s tenure making Dr Goodluck Jonathan to take over his powers under the title of Vice President, acting president and later the President.

By this, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo the principal beneficiary of north’s magnanimity of power rotation has successfully paid the north with a different coin altogether. However, it should be noted that all this did not succeed without active connivance and approval of some northerners especially in the face of lack of any astute regional leadership to look up to it. Again, this in turn led to another scenario where we see the north being forcibly ejected from the scheme of things by an administration that come into being through a northern ticket. Take it or leave it, President Jonathan is there as the president today because a northerner had picked him as his running mate. Ultimately, therefore, he is serving under the northern ticket. Regrettably however, from the time of his declaration as acting president, in controversial circumstances by the national Assembly, every move of President Jonathan proved to be anti anything north.

We have seen, for example, how few days after his ascension to office, President Jonathan turned to bite the fingers that fed him and show his true colour without any camouflage. His decision to revoke dredging of River Niger awarded by late President Umaru Yar’adua and sack of northerners in key positions are all pointers to what Jonathan’s Friday would be like as seen on Wednesday. However, to utter disbelief, there was almost nothing was done by the North to checkmate the ugly tendencies apart from some uproar in the media which later led him to shelve the idea of revoking the dredging project. Yet, that all-important project is still full of uncertainties.

But indeed as a Hausa proverb blames crack on the wall for a lizard to peep through, all the threats facing the north within the Nigerian state have only come to be because the unity and common voice known of the region have all crumbled. It is pertinent to remember that naka shika bashe ka, as another Hausa saying alludes.

With his confirmation as substantive president, Goodluck Jonathan is now testing his muscles and has launched an onslaught on the north and its interest while everybody is helplessly watching the script being acted. While he is busy eroding the political base of the north, some people including some unpatriotic northerners are agitating for him to contest the 2011 election. If these calls succeeded, then the move (which is an addendum to the Obasanjo script of undermining the north) will be a nefarious and classical case of betrayal ever to happen in Nigeria ’s political history.

However, 2011 is, sadly, a lost for the north head or tail. If the PDP abolished its zoning arrangement and gave Jonathan the nod to run, we all know what we are in for. Likewise, even if they decide to allow the north to produce the next president, the tendency is that they either paved way for a northern traitor and their crony or else give the ticket to Vice President; the former option is more likely to materialize. In fact, Daram-dam-dam, was particularly selected overnight to serve as the vice president because of the realization that he, like late President Yar’Adua, is sick and may not stand the rigours of administering Nigeria or even the campaign pressures. At the end of the day, if the drama unfolded as planned, we will be having a repeat of Yar’adua/Jonathan saga. God forbid!

With all these clear writings on the wall, the so-called northern leaders (governors especially) could not sit down and ponder over all the issues with a view to mapping out a chart for the region. Rather than seeking relevance through internal authority, the northern leaders are desperately looking for national recognition. Alas, they, like many Nigerians are poor students of history. History has taught us that most successful leaders begin with their localities or regions before they assumed wider jurisdiction and history has shown that most leaders who catapult at once to the national level with shallow grip on their region rarely succeed or have a lasting impression.

Sir Ahmadu Bello, the Sardauna of Sokoto whom everybody in the north is now praising for his achievements and looking up to, achieved that prominence and power not as a national leader but as rather as a firm national leader who believed in the unity and progress of the north. He remained relevant and revered by all and sundry to this day and while he was alive, his firm grip as a regional leader gave him an age over others to assert certain authority at the national level. With all due respect to first Nigeria ’s Prime Minister, Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, he did enjoy similar goodwill and relevance as did the Sardauna because the former was a national leader and the latter was regional leader. It was the same case with other regional leaders like Chief Obafemi Awolowo who, because of his influence as regional leader, is still revered and respected by all Yorubas.

It is this simple analogy that the present day northern leaders failed to realise hence they desperately aspire to national leadership while they lack any tangible presence in the north itself. Similarly, it is lack of the Sardauna-model northern leadership that thrown the region into chaos and mistrust especially between its people notably the Hausa/Fulani (predominantly Muslims) and minor tribes of the Middle Belt (predominantly Christian). Despite been intensely religious man, Ahmadu Bello rallied his subjects together and united them under one umbrella without any discrimination. At that time there was no fear of domination or subversion from any quarters.

It is that trust in ourselves that we lack first and indeed it is the sine qua non of any synergy upon which any progress can then be built. We the people of northern Nigeria have to quickly woke up from our slumber and realise the danger we are in for to get redress before it is too late to make amends. We need to be remembered that nobody and no part of this country can neutralise a united north. In unity we can achieve anything because population is to our advantage hence since democracy is the game of number, with unity we can do and undo anything in this country.

I Am Healthy to Contest - IBB
Abu Nmodu
4 July 2010

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Minna — Making his first public appearance on Saturday amidst rumour that he suffered a stroke, former military president, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB) declared on Saturday in Minna that he was hale and healthy.

Gen. Babangida, who reluctantly responded to journalists' questions, said, "You can see for yourself that I am okay: seeing is believing," He was the chairman of the graduation ceremony of students of his late wife's school El-Amin International school (ELAI) minna.

IBB, wearing his usual smile, parried most of the questions put across to him and said "even if they said I am dead, one day I will still die and, as a human being, you can fall sick anytime". Asked whether he was healthy enough to contest the 2011 presidential election, the former military president said yes.

General Babangida, however, refused to respond to question on the position of some groups in the north that President Goodluck Jonathan should not contest 2011 presidential election.

Meanwhile the wife of the president, Dame Patience Goodluck Jonathan, who was the special guest of honour at the graduation, and represented by the wife of the vice president, Amina Namadi Sambo, said the EL-Amin International School was a legacy left behind by late Maryam Babangida which showed her commitment to human capital development and social change.

All you're posting is trash. I can't believe people are trying to convince others that the Abia State kidnappers are, or are even related to Niger Delta militants. Absolutely crazy how searching random news articles on the internet has come to represent the truth. The Federal Government has become a reliable and unreliable source depending on the agenda of the researcher, without any consistency.

Where in this quote does it say Abia kidnappers are Niger Delta militants? Why can't some people leave things they have no knowledge of? Let me set up a gang in Yobe now and start to kidnap claiming they didn't offer us any of the amnesty, people will start to write nonsense about how MEND is operating in Katsina.
What do you expect, from someone that argues that Aondoakaa is from the Niger Delta? Leave Kobojonkie jare! Its like arguing with a wall, which just stands there, can't think. . . But can echo. grin

FIFA Extend Nigeria’s Deadline
Written by Isah
Sunday, 04 July 2010 20:38
FIFA have extended the deadline given to the Nigeria government to reverse their decision to withdraw from international football or risk expulsion.

On Friday, FIFA General Secretary Jerome Valcke said the Nigerian government had 48 hours to reverse their decision, but in a letter to the Nigeria Football Federation, FIFA advised that unless the decision is reversed by 18h00 hours today July 5, 'the FIFA Emergency Committee will decide on the suspension of the NFF with immediate effect."

The letter also went on to add that FIFA neither recognises nor condones the decision of the Nigerian government, and will not also recognise or deal with the management committee it has put in place. It added that it will continue to deal only with the NFF executive committee led by Sani Lulu, even beyond its tenure of August 28.

Further, FIFA  said it  has commenced the process of inviting an alternative team to replace Nigeria at this month's FIFA Under-20 Women Championships in Germany.

This is the answer to all our electricity problems! Further to the privatisation, insentives should be given to enable smaller companies innovate in alternative energy provision. If we pushed even further and completly decentralised the system, the smaller stakeholder would benefit even more, because it would mean that anybody would be able to generate electricity commercially. If the ordinary Nigerian is empowered in this way, we will see an explosion of technologies; some weird, some wacky, others simply wonderful! grin

Nigeria has some of the richest ocean energy resources in the World and ways should be looked at by the bigger companies to harness them; indeed, we could easily save bar beach by switching its energy from land encroachment to power generation.

No Northern PDP Member Can Defeat Jonathan – Tofa
• South East Govs Opt Out Of Presidential Race • Zoning Can Be Negotiated, Says Amaechi
By Sunny Igboanugo (Lagos), Augustine Madu-West (Kano) and Emmanuel Nzomiwu (Enugu)

All Nigerian People Party (ANPP) and Elders Committee Chairman, Bashir Tofa,  says no Northerner in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has the capability to challenge President Goodluck Jonathan for the party’s ticket let alone defeat him.

Most of the Presidential aspirants from the North are familiar faces who have failed to click when they had the opportunity of making impact, Tofa stated at the weekend.

“Let us take for instance former Vice President Atiku Abubakar. Technically, he is not a member of the PDP because of the rule that makes it mandatory that you have to spend at least two years to qualify for election.

“So, technically, he is out. Aliyu Gusau, as far as I am concerned, has no hope in the world and cannot beat anybody at the convention, let alone Jonathan.

“In the case of Ibrahim Babangida, he may have other options with other political parties if the PDP denies him the ticket.

"Besides these ones who else do we have from the North? Nobody,” Tofa argued.

Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, chipped in that “politics is about horse-trading. Everything can be negotiated.”

He reiterated that he and other PDP Governors would play a role in who becomes the party’s Presidential candidate.

His words: “That was actually what I said the last time, only that the headline that was given to it was different.

"Who owns most of the delegates? Those doubting the power of the Governors should wait and see.”

However, South East Governors decided at a meeting in Enugu on Sunday not to run for Aso Rock next year.

All the five Governors – Sullivan Chime (Enugu), Theodore Orji (Abia), Martins Elechi (Ebonyi), Peter Obi (Anambra), and Ikedi Ohakim (Imo) – attended the meeting.

Obi, who spoke for them, said they resolved, in the interest of the zone, to work together, irrespective of party affiliation, and to back a Presidential candidate with the best idea to address the marginalisation of the South East.

With claims and counter claims about the zoning formula in the PDP, putting its Northern members at odds with Southerners – amid speculation of Jonathan's run – Tofa advised his kinsmen with Northern sentiments to take their case to the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) if they are convinced that it is a Northern problem.

“This is purely a PDP affair that has no business with the North as a region. This is not a Northern thing; it is a Northern PDP people’s affair.”

He canvassed a distinction between the general interest of the North and the personal interest of Northern individuals, because “these Northerners in the PDP nursing Presidential ambition are the ones trying to use the North for their personal ambition.”

Tofa recalled how he was invited to attend the G15 meting where the issue was to  be discussed, but said he turned the invitation down on the grounds that zoning is a PDP matter.

“I told them I could not be there; because first of all, I am not a PDP member. Again, I do not see it as a Northern problem, but a PDP problem.

“Well, if you say it is a Northern problem, take it to the ACF. If you say a Northerner has to be a Presidential candidate, the ANPP most probably will have a Northern candidate.

“If you want a Northern candidate, go to the ANPP, tell the other Northerners to vote for the ANPP candidate.”

Tofa said zoning is “very important” as it is a way of being fair to every part of the country so that each can feel  a sense of belonging, as against winner takes all.

In his view, zoning is even in the Constitution where it is called ‘federal character.’

“So, everyone will have the hope that one day he or she can be President of this country, irrespective of tribe and religion, if zoning operates.”

He suggested that the PDP should hold a meeting to resolve the controversy over  its zoning.

Tofa, however, maintained that whichever way it goes, the PDP is in trouble.

“If Jonathan is allowed to contest there will be problem in the party because those from the North will revolt and work against the party.

"In the same vein, if a Northerner emerges as Presidential candidate, their Southern colleagues will not accept it.

“So, already they have created the problem themselves and what we are praying now is for it to persist so that the PDP will explode for Nigeria to have a change.”

Tofa denied knowledge of the reported move by the Action Congress (AC) to adopt Governor Ibrahim Shekarau of Kano State as its Presidential candidate.

The ANPP has not entered into such a deal with the AC, he said.

“What the ANPP is doing is talking with other parties about coming together to reach an understanding towards the 2011 elections.

“We have met tge AC severally. Initially, discussions centred on the possibility of merging the two parties, but that has been overtaken by time.

"We have other parties which are keen on the alliance, and I hope one day the AC will be convinced to be part of this alliance.”

Tofa said the ANPP is working hard planning for its convention on July 17 and interested candidates buying forms for different posts.

Politics › Ondo Pdp Chairman, Driver Kidnapped by Beaf(op): 11:11pm On Jul 04, 2010
Ondo PDP chairman, driver kidnapped
National News Jul 4, 2010 Share | By Dayo Johnson

A six-man gang, weekend, kidnapped the Ondo State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Dr Tayo Dairo, at Okada in Edo State.

Family source hinted that the kidnappers who equally abducted his driver, Sola Oladoye, are demanding for N50 million ransom before he could be released.

Dairo was reportedly trailed from Iju Odo, in Okitipupa council area of Ondo State, the country home of the immediate past Governor, Olusegun Agagu at about 8pm on Saturday.

The gang according to sources, stopped him on getting to Okada in Edo State where he and the driver were abducted and taken to an unknown destination.

Vanguard learnt that when he got to Okada in Edo State, the kidnappers blocked his official Toyota Camry car with registration No FG 153 Q12 and asked his driver, Sola and himself to disembark from the car.

A family source said the kidnappers had phoned them to demand for N50million ransom before he could be released.

Contacted, the Publicity Secretary of the State PDP, Chief Adeyemi Adedipe, expressed regret at what has become the recurrent threat to live and property within the country’s political space and pledged that the party would leave no stone unturned in the efforts to secure the release of the chairman.

Adedipe who also regretted “the untoward event”, confirmed that contact had been made with the chairman and the kidnappers and disclosed that “the Chairman is hale and hearty” as he urged party members “to remain calm because we are on top of the situation.”

Also reacting to the development, the state government enjoined the security agencies to do all in their part to ensure immediate release of Dr Tayo Dairo and bring the culprits to book.

The Chief Press Secretary to the State Governor, Mr. Kolawole Olabisi Olabisi, however, cautioned against the politicization of the kidnap saga which the government described as unfortunate and a national malaise that must be arrested in the overall interest of innocent citizens of Nigeria and for the nation’s corporate image.

He assured that no stone would be left unturned in its desire to ensure the safety of lives and property in Ondo State.

Nigeria warns FIFA against meddling in its sovereignty

APA, Abuja (Nigeria) Nigeria on Sunday reacted to FIFA’s threat of sanctions following the dissolution of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and suspension of participation in tournaments for two years, warning that it was a sovereign nation and could not be dictated to by any country or organization.

The Sports Minister, Ibrahim Bio, said on Sunday in Abuja that he was aware that FIFA had given Nigeria 48 hours to rescind its decision but warned that the country had the right to carry out its administration for greater efficiency.

He said Nigeria was trying to sort out its football house without impinging on the FIFA rules but the organization could not hold the country to ransom.

“Nigeria will do everything possible to take the interest of the sovereignty of Nigeria first and foremost.

“If that is in conformity with FIFA rules so be it, but if it is not in conformity with FIFA rules, I think the sovereignty of Nigeria and interest of the people is most paramount.

“A situation whereby we have competitions and there seems to be no proper coordination between the supervisory ministry and NFF does not augur well for our football.

“What we presented at the World Cup was a shame. You cannot have cancer and continue to live with it because you don’t want to spill blood ; we are ready to spill blood to remove the cancer.

“We are fed up with the rot and corruption in football administration in Nigeria,” he said.

I remember when Ogbe Stadium used to be full to capacity to watch local heroes Bright Omokaro, Friday Elaho, Henry Nwosu etc.

Today una dey beer parlour dey broke bottle for one another head because Arsenal beat Chelsea.

12large - Abeg leave dat ting. Ghana dey support their local teams.
This is something that really makes my heart bleed. There are even TV programmes that go on and on about foreign football! When I see such, it is like I should burst into the TV and konk somebodies head.

It would really help the average Nigerian to read up thoroughly on the evil that the slave trade was. There are several popular families today that made their money from slavery, it wasn't just kings, even ordinary folk joined in. What do some of you think Tinubu square is about? And I am not talking about the Amalgamation ceremony. Some Africans played a very shameful part in the slave trade; nothing can make that right.

Black folk in the diaspora do have big holes where their identities should be; some can cope with it with some ease, but for others, it is a deep and painful hollowness.
Most will not open up, except you are very close to them; when they do open up, it can be an unnerving experience. In Naijamini's case, he'd most likely met a man torn wretched by watching his adopted country (USA) playing with a country he wished he could call home (Ghana). . . And bitterness welled up. Blood is thicker than water.
