this is too simplistic, i think when it comes to online forums like this,a lot of people tend to prefer the bombastic,to the thoughtful and effective line of reasoning

they love to perpetuate insults, some love one liners,
others crave attention so whatever gets it for them is pushed to the front and any type of critical discussion/line of thinking,is pushed to the backburner

plus i suspect the people that beaf is talking about, dont have much access to the computer. . .
The first and last lines of your comment contradict the rest of your input. Can you expand on the above? The impression I'm getting from your words is that critical thinking is valid (or absent) Online only.

Critical thinking gives due consideration to the evidence, the context of judgment, the relevant criteria for making the judgment well, the applicable methods or techniques for forming the judgment, and the applicable theoretical constructs for understanding the problem and the question at hand. Critical thinking employs not only logic but broad intellectual criteria such as clarity, credibility, accuracy, precision, relevance, depth, breadth, significance and fairness.

Some people are not making sense. If other non-blacks can use it, why not whites especially if it's not a derogatory term anymore and also not the same as "ni**er"?? I'm just saying. I've heard white people use the word when rapping along in a rap song. I didn't know what to say, it was just funny to me.  grin You people just give them the audacity to use it so don't complain. period.
True that argument is very very wooly. Its like some saddo calling women in the streets ho's and frowning when someone referrs to his sisters or mum as ho's?!
Its also like a "mother" "affectionately" calling her kids bastard, only to rage when a neigbour asks her, "do you need any help getting your bastards across the road?".

@Beaf,
i totally agree with you, it was scary to see that scum bag in white with a red thingy around his waist claimin to have killed about 110 witch, which he later denied. the documentary worn a BAFTA award and has bn dominated for a Rory Peck award, poor kids,
The thing I can't understand is why are people like Helen Ukpabio still walking free. Money can buy anything in Nigeria (sadly, including kids lives).
There is so much work to be done building our nation. So much work.
Politics › Re: Shocking Documentary About Children Accused Of Witch Craft In Nigeria by Beaf: 1:42pm On Nov 25, 2009
It is an utter disgrace. embarassed

Nigeria is in the grasp of all sorts of fake "born agains". The sooner these churches are banned and their owners jailed, the better for the country. All they do is prey on the weak, steal from the poor and cause devision among the wretched.
Politics › Re: Critical Thinking And Dialogue by Beaf: 1:16pm On Nov 25, 2009
I want to tackle this question obliquely so as not to offend sensibilities.

These are symptoms of "something":
[li]Asking "do you know who I am"[/li]
[li]Feeling belittled because someone has put forward a calm and reasoned approach that negates a belief we hold[/li]
[li]Delivering dirty slaps when we are involved in accidents (or arguments)[/li]
[li]Participating in lynch mobs (verbal or physical)[/li]
[li]Looking to spiritual solutions where all that is required is mental and physical exertion[/li]
[li]Feeling mentally drained[/li]
[li]Feeling spiritually drained[/li]
[li]Feeling there is too much on our plates and no outlet[/li]
[li]Arguing blindly[/li]
The key to imbibing and practicing critical thinking and dialogue lie outside just teaching or talking about it. The average Nigerian has been traumatised by hardship and years of "command" governments that don't hesitate to apply beatings to "erring" citizens. What is required is a national rebirth, something each and every Nigerian can feel a part of and will be proud to participate in.

This is so sad. So a diplomat was so pissed off, he had to let it all out without mincing words, I wish govt officials could see themselves the way others see them.

Venezuala has a good 18 refineries in the US alone! shocked And to think that Nigeria's crude is the highest quality in the World.
Here for donkey years, we've had Delta Steel, Ajaokuta steel and a thousand and one research institutes. Yet we can't even service the oil industry without importing, no one makes drills etc. Its just terrible. embarassed

Talking about our refineries, "subsidies" etc is just going to take it too far.

This video and your interpretation just confirmed my greatest fear!. I will only advice you dont go near the market, so that the would-be doctor will not have a difficult time. If you continue like this, Sodom and Gomorrah will petition Baba GOD if your punishment is not worst than theirs.
You can't even see how lost that mugu is? embarassed Thats why you think God is in your pocket and thats why you resort to abusing people's parents like a Boko Haram MAGA (na small dem de start, until one day dem go carry AK or do suicide bombing, say na God dem wan fight for).

. . .
Having said that, there is an urgent need to find a solution and  admittedly, this cannot come from the state
governments , for obvious reasons. There must be a concerted push from both federal and state governments and
other states of the federation
.This assistance can only be meaningful if the affected states recognise , in the first instance
that they have a problem which they do not seem to be doing. They are all politicking and spending scarce resources
on projects that do not have any connection with the problems in hand.
. . .
Why can't the almajiri's simply hold their leaders to task? Or lets give it another 50 years (about the same period ND has suffered for oil); by which time the army would be most willing to go in with aircraft, bombs and helicopter gunships (when the almajiri's are at a festival)? Also, there will be some convenient fool in govt calling for the "sacrifice" of the Northern population for the good of the country. It is a democracy isn't?
