no homie the colombian and puerto ricans are just regular folks,i got a colombian friend and him and his brother use the term like they are black

again if nigerians back home say it maybe they are influenced by rap music, doesnt mean they have low self esteem
Why would the such a term come up in a Nigerian environment? That is what NL is. We aren't in some den in Colombia or Puerto Rica; well bred African Americans don't use such terms either, it is a street slang. It was born on the streets for creatures and low lifes of the street; that is why it reeks unintelligence, lack of self esteem and to a certain extent, criminal tendencies.

For goodness sake, lets stay away from those slangs.
huhhuh

never heard that,

anyway beef u do know theres a difference btw N-I-G-G-A and N-I-G-G-E-R, right?
nowadays colombians and puerto-ricans call themselves nigga, its what it is
u probably wouldnt understand if u dont live out here,
there are some rules though,u just dont say 'what up ma nigga', to just anybody on the street
but of cause u can say nigga if u in a fight or mad, like 'fk u nigga',
nigga is a derogatory word that had to be co-opted and owned by blacks to lesson the sting
its a good thing, learn to love it
Owned by which blacks? African Americans or Nigerian wannabe African Americans?
Whichever way you look at it, people who use it lack self esteem; they want to look African American or show that they have travelled abroad. There is nothing "good" about abusing not just oneself, but every other black person.
Most of the Colombians and Puerto Ricans you are talking about are drug gang members and uneducated bums. Why would our educated youth aspire to their level? angry

I think beaf is talking about a really  important topic though, so let us save the insults (I have some myself  grin) for later especially stupid threads

@topic
I dont know, I hate that word too, and a lot of ppl my age use it even when talking to me especially those who school in the UK. I always flinch when someone addresses me like that.

Amaka, I think beaf is complaining of nigerians in britain and america who try and use the street slang especially those which might sound cool but derogatory a few days after they land the country.
Exactly.

Some also speak what they think is patois, so that they can seem Jamaican.
I get irritated when people use terms like "Nigga", it doesn't show either self pride or intelligence.

There is nothing wrong with being Nigerian, especially when we are among Nigerians.

What if I am 80? Are you making sense?

You are one of the people who uses the term "nigga", which isn't surprising; condidering that everything you say is either incredidibly foolish, stupid or ignorant.
Good to see that the conscience of a fool can be ruffled. grin

When Nigerians freely use American street slangs that are derives from derogatory words toward black skin, is it because it is a fad, we are too young to care or what?

Is there a disconnect here? Are these the same people those who were called Dele, Nwokem, Igho in Nigeria, but became "Slade" or "Wittington" as soon as they landed away? Are they the same people with strange accents to match that both Oyibo and 9ja can't understand?

Na wa o! Nigga! angry

BTW, i hope you knw quite well that even pidgin was coined out of the normal english, if someone says "Where you dey go" each object in the sentence is English!
You might want to suggest another official language that is completely devoid of an element of "mental slavery"
It was coined out of English, yes. So was American English with its own spellings, diction etc. The same way, Pidgin English is not Queens English; test it on the nearest Oyibo and see. wink

The important thing is that it is a language we all understand and it is much more in tune with our way of thinking.
A simple illustration is, how many jokes seem funny in Pidgin English, but lose their flavour in the Queens version? We need to adopt Pidgin English as our official language.

I look at all the Chinese students in my class when they struggle to speak in English, and i take consolation in the fact that i was brought up doing so.
BTW, how do you think, this would have played out eventually? there are more than 10 different languages in Nigeria, thts why an official language is needed, else, we probably wont even be discussing this on Nairaland!
embarassed embarassed embarassed embarassed embarassed embarassed embarassed
This is 100% mental slavery. Queens English does not have to be our official language! If we didn't feel everything "African" was inferior, by now our official language would be Pidgin English.

The govt has only successfully attracted "enterprising" criminals and murderers with this sham amnesty.
It should engage in dialogue with MEND than prolong this policy of failure of sitting with the Ateke Tom's and Boyloaf's. MEND is represented by the likes of Wole Soyinka, not the cheap criminals that have seen a way to make a quick buck by surrendering any weapon they could lay their hands on.

I am impressed by the promise of a technological foundation for Anambra. Let us see.

If Soludo wins, we will be watching Anambra closely. A lot of hope lies in a man of his calibre, we will need men of genius to uproot this country (come 2015) from the chasm Yar Adua is frantically digging.

We have young and intelligent men that can rule Nigeria. We all know that when a man gets old his level of understanding, reasoning and planning reduces. Let change this country with a young brain below 50.
Cyberfreak:
. . .
I don't think age matters if we want to choose the person who would rule Nigeria the way it should be ruled and I disagree with that poster who mentioned that when men get old, their ability to reason wisely reduces. This is not true except in cases of senility. What we need is a visionary, intellectual with a strong desire to better the country. Be he young or old.
If we must move forward, we need to drop every hint of a patriachal society. We must embrace fresh thinking in its totality, a woman is every bit as good as a man. Countries with female leaders generally don't have bad stories (maybe they've gone to war less sha grin). But seriously, if we identify a female as the next leader we need to give her 101% of our support.

Please watch the video below of a truely exceptional babe. At her age, she is wise, sophisticated and confident beyond comprehension. There are more like her in every region of the country, lets seek ways to fish them out and propel them toward leadership positions.

Most of this anti-MS stuff comes from their total destruction of Netscape and a couple of others. Now there are religious camps on either side.
It really isn't about bad software, you can check out this study on MS Sql Server vs Oracle security here http://www.databasesecurity.com/dbsec/comparison.pdf . It's dated, but you can see my point.

Above and beyond everything above, is that these guys are incredibly smart folk who cynically play on sentiment and loyalty to guarantee market share. The video below says a lot.

Fellow Nigeria Youth, this is the best time for us to take over. I grew up to know the name of Yar Adua, Obasanjo, Bamanga Tukur, Saraki etc, we must take the initiative and stop these guys now before they install their children. We must install someone with great credibility.

Very true. But it is important to note that there can be positive alliances with some of the older guard who have immense leverage in society, but are sympathetic (eg Gen. Akinrinade); though it would be best to approach such guys with a very long spoon.
