Hundreds of civilians in the oil-rich Niger Delta are dead following an offensive by the Nigerian military. Though the military denies responsibility for any civilian casualties, human rights group Amnesty International says it has received eyewitness accounts of military helicopters attacking a festival.

Politics › Re: Yar’adua’s Shocking Revelation To The Militants! by Beaf: 7:41am On Nov 19, 2009
The President in a discussion with the militants as reported on front page of newspaper of Wednesday, October 21, 2009, had shown how much the main States in the region (Delta, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, and Bayelsa) received in the last three years,

The report revealed that each of the above named States received from the federal allocations, within the period under reference, more than all the States put together in the North-West or North-West or North-Central or South-East. The revelation was thought provoking.
The story is so stupid. For one Akwa Ibom and Rivers are in the South-East; secondly, what has the FG done with its own share (apart make our politicians the highest paid in the World)? Is the FG any less corrupt than ND governors. Whilst no excuses can be made; some ND governor's are actually not corrupt (eg Sylva, who is the first and only state governor to open his finances to foreign auditors), there are other examples.

Why does Nigeria only have oil money to share among states? What if there was no oil, would states be approaching Abuja with begging bowls, or would we all have found more productive ways to make money and develop? If the ND was not populated by minorities, would the current situation have arisen?

Nigeria's "annual per capita income of $1,400 is less than that of Senegal, which exports mainly fish and nuts." shocked
http://www.sistersofstjosephorange.org/images/resources/The%20Extracting%20Industry%20of%20the%20Niger%20Delta%20Region.pdf

It is better to resolve issues than pump out propaganda against minorities. Already, both the ICJ (International Court of Justice) and  ICC (International Criminal Court)have been pertitioned this year about certain events in the ND. This thing can become an international disgrace.

Why would you want to log into a web application by fingerprint?
Except you're talking of an intranet where everyone has a fingerprint scanner hooked up to the network, your project is a non-starter.

Who wants to send something as personal as their fingerprint over HTTP (any protocol for that matter)?

heavy work you were referring to is mainly processor dependent.
while the language may contribute to how fast or slow it solves,
the laguage's contribution to such task it very very minute to what the processor will contribute.
in large computation like u mentioned,same with what i talked about as per image rendering, these rely on the processor performance.

let me use this instance.
a computer with 3ghz running an intensive calculation in written in C
may not meet up with a 3.2ghz computer running the same program written in some other languages. when it comes to real calculations, its up to the processor. not your language. though a language may contribute, maybe because of the way thing implemented on a lower level. but take it that, the processor should be the focus in such calculations

what language did i end up using when i write a wrapper for a particular C function, then call the python function, at least it's now a python method?
Over the years, processor speed has taken as a proxy for Moores Law http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moore's_law
The importance of the above is, while CPU speeds have roughly doubled every two years, an application in C# (.NET) is usually 1000's shocked of times faster than one written in PHP (not even double). A C# (.NET) programme running on a 3ghz will blast a PHP one running on a 3.2ghz right out of the water. The same goes for Java.

When will PHP ever catch up if we are depending on CPU speed? grin Damn! grin
This is not to say PHP is useless, far from it! The fact is, PHP is more than adequate to handle your everyday website. Problems arise when code must deliver results at high performance app levels (motion detection, video, audio, games, parallel, cloud, Enterprise Ecommerce etc) . . . And these problems are serious ones.

These are measurements for a few single functions, http://www.misfitgeek.com/pages/Perf_Stat_0809.htm. The speed differential goes past a 100 for ASP.NET in at least one instance. Add up a few functions to build an application and things really begin to look very very bleak.

If you write a wrapper for a C function, you are using C through the calling language. It doesn't make the calling language any faster, instead it proves that C is much faster, hence the need to wrap a C function.

Assembler - you can't get any faster (except by writing directly in binary, largely impossible)
C, C++, D, Delphi - blazingly fast
C# (.NET), Java - very fast
Python, Ruby, PHP - slow

This is an Delta / Edo point of view of Nigerian politics in her formative years http://www.dawodu.net/igho.htm

It contains a lot of good stuff that is neither Igbo nor Yoruba oriented, regardless, Awo is not portrayed in good light.

We can never forgive him for both the blood lost and the ethnic rivalry in Warri.

It is good that Nigerians of all hue can work together, especially the Igbo and Yoruba, the two tribes I consider most important in Nigeria. However, we should not defend what is wrong. On the bolded part, who is federal govt that made the federal law? Was Awo not the defacto VP and finance minister who hatched the idea to decimate Igbo finances? Yoruba should learn to look beyond Awo and work with others. The tribalism that Awo introduced into the system has remained the root cause of Nigeria's problems till date. No hard feelings, though
This is the absolute truth. Awo is seen almost like a god in the West, but elswhere, he is seen as the devil incarnate. Eg. how much blood has been spilt in Warri, due to Awo's influence? The Midwest was very quick to turn its back on Awo as soon as it was created.

There has been no individual more tribalistic than Awo, there are other political heroes from the West, pick another one and half of Nigeria's problems will be solved.

@Afam

It isn't about the processor. There are several tasks in todays World that will freeze your modern desktop if not approached right.
I threw webdezzi a challenge to illustrate the point a few others and I are making. The challenge is here https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-149355.96.html#msg4938062
Funny thing is, in that processor intensive challenge, I "forgot" to mention that all work should be done in a single thread, but he didn't pick up on that. Both he and PHP failed woefully there.

logica gave a very good explanation of our point here https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-149355.128.html#msg4942297.
Each language has a route to the processor. It is in meandering a command to the processor that a language can fail to complete a task in time. For languages like JavaScript and PHP, the route is very very very long. For languages like C# and Java, the route is thousands of times shorter. For C and C++, it is incredibly short; with Assembler, you're right there, bang on the metal.

PHP will fail woefully at DSP too.

Do you remember, that after the civil war, it was only in Lagos, Yorubaland, that Ibo properties were returned to them with help of the likes of Adeniran Ogunsanya, even in Port Harcourt , that is supposed to be closer to Ibo all their houses in area called "town" were declared abandoned properties till today.
