Dis Guy: NO the man should be challenged openly!!! people that have views should be allowed to air them and challenged openly!! My exact question is, what are his views? He has regurgitated a few obvious bits and pieces, thats all. There are no angles (new or old), apart from hinting that everyone is to blame. Its almost like he is saying Nigerian DNA is bad, therefore all are all born to cause the country problems. If he had views, we would debate them. Sadly, he has only denials and we don't the context in which he is denying. |
Politics › Re: Sanusi's Very Interesting Perspective - We Are Products Of Colonialism - by Beaf: 11:22pm On Nov 20, 2009 |
@Dis_Guy It is sacrilege to mention Sanusi among "professors of Economics/Sociologist etc in our universities and Company CEOs". There is this dangerous fad of inferring that Sanusi is an intellectual (which is the same as calling the child witch evangelists in Akwa-Ibom intellectuals). There are true intellectuals that can add positively to the debate of Nigerias ailments, others even from Sanusi's same Caliphate background. Sanusi just doesn't have it, statements of denial are very far from offering a solution. The man should be quiet, instead of publicising statements of emptiness and denial. @topic What he did not say was that there was a documented policy of the British when they came that the Northerner should not be educated. It was documented. It was British colonial policy. I have the document. I have published articles on it. That if you educate the Northerner you will produce progressive Muslim intellectuals of the type we have in Egypt and India. So, do not educate them. It was documented. And you say they love us (North). The British left Nigeria 49 years ago, yet the North is still behind educationally. The British left Singapore 46 years ago, today they are a developed country. The question that comes to mind in reading the article is, what is his own "why" for the state the country is in, apart from nebulous claims that criminals come from every part of the country (which is so very obvious). |

Knight1: @ there are cabalsssssssssssssss Only that the ppl saying there are cabals are actually the ones in the cabals.( or beneficiaries)
e.g. Those that donate 1billion and so on must have a power to protect that they do so, believe me, it's not cos they are passionate about the projects of the fundraisers.
but God will soon destroy them, real soon!!!! Keep waiting for God. According to your theory, it is those in the "God Cabal" that will say we should wait for God; just so they can protect what they have. Don't be decieved, your destiny is in your own hands. |

I like the fact this guy speaks his mind openly (ANYWHERE north or south; in private and in public), why dont we have CEOs, Governors etc writing articles on happenings in the financial, leadership or any other bloody sector they just keep their 'intellect' to themselves or they don't like being challenged in the open? Intellect and sharia are oil and water. Can you imagine someone from Jesus of Oyingbo posing as an intellectual? Let's not belittle the word. |

The error is due to the new security features introduced in .NET 2.0 http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa480472.aspxThis error is usually a sign that you have attempted to read data that does'nt exist. It can also arise when you attempt a procedure for which you don't have the required CAS permissions (full trust, medium trust etc). I very strongly suspect that your issue is tied with the variable "m_Finger". That would be the first place I would look. A sure fire way to get to the root of the issue is by following the instructions here http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms996457.aspxYou will get better help by displaying the complete stack trace for us to see, Click "Show Call Stack". |

I guess thats why someone said it's powers lies else where, but not with speed. . . . I am beginning to think that by speed you mean, how quickly you can get the job done. That is productivity, not speed or raw performance. It is healthy to have a balance of raw performance and productivity, instead of a near 100% tilt in one direction (Assembler vs Ruby). |

Katsumoto: I agree that the foundations are bad but I do not know if confederation, which is what some people are arguing, will be the solution. For one, how do you form the confederations? Do you form them amongst tribal or geographic lines? Do you try to make them equal in size? I say this because bigger regions will still have this oppressive attitude that prevails today.
A different approach may be with education and I am not talking about NYSC. NYSC has not achieved much because by the time individuals finish from university they are set in the ways. I am talking about education from primary school about other cultures. Perhaps it should be made compulsory for each child to learn another Nigerian language from primary school all the way to their SSCE exam. This may build tolerance and increase understanding. The northern kids must also be put into proper schools rather than islamic schools.
I believe in Nigeria, the uniqueness of our cultures. Together we are stronger. The USA is strong today because it identifies all the different cultures within it and celebrates them but it still promotes being American first. That is what we need in Nigeria in my opinion. But like the OP is trying to imply, something has to change. That thing is the Federal structure. |

citizenY: @ SEFAGO We all know the antecedents of BEaf. I do not agree with you.
You will realise that his comments on how the north comes up with a united position are not founded on ignorance. It must have been made in the context of deep reflections on the dynamics of that society. I am glad you have a grasp of the structure of that society but do not understand why you have not used this to further enlighten us on how the advantage of unity can be spread across the nation. I sincerely believe that is the purpose of this dialogue and not hurling diatribes, THANK YOU.
PS, I am surprised no one is crucifying me for asking people to show us their wailing wall. It is apt here to say we are still waiting. If following them to wail there will make them leave us alone or rather make us atone for sins committed by our forebears and solve their problem, we are ready. No amount of sophistory and subtle propaganda and postings can replace an outright demand - TAKE US BEFORE THE WALL AND WE SHALL WAIL MORE THAT YOU. Every section of the country has its wailing wall. Whether it is wise to ask for these to be explicitly pointed out is doubtful, especially if (as you say) you do not want the hurling of diatribes. It is best to approach touchy issues obliquely with the intention of addressing them and proposing fixes. |

Cultural assimilation between the hausa fulani as well as ethnic mixing has made it possible for these two groups to produce a united front. Fulani-Hausa contact has been going on years b4 the british even thought of becoming an european maritime power. Oh! And because of that, they don't dominate Northern politics? Clever. |

citizenY: Quote from Beaf yesterday
There can't be one educated person that believes the whole North is even remotely all Hausa/Fulani. The issue is that the whole of the North bands together as Arewa and Arewa is controlled by Hausa/Fulani. Simple calculation. Northern Nigeria takes a united position on almost every issue, especially after meetings of the 19 nineteen Northern states, or Arewa Consultative Forum.
I agree, every Nairalander that has converted the banks of the River Niger and Benue into his wailing wall by making northerners his whipping child does not understand this. Some Jews have already forsaken their wailing wall. These guys are incurable. You know them very well and they know themselves. I do not see why the south cannot establish their own governors forum. If that is the only way to aggregate common interests, so be it. I am not oblivious of the gargantuan task involved ,but why not?give it a try
Perhaps it will be necessary for these ''educated'' guys to understand that knowing your country is the basic tool in nation building. Without that you cannot appreciate the people, their ways, their problems and it will be stupid to make commentaries on national affairs in that cauldron of ignorance. If the North bands together as Arewa, then there is legitimacy in the "educated" guy's categorisation. You must always seek accomodation with the strongest party in a partnership. |

You are of course aware that every Nigerian from above the Niger is Hausa Fulani. You will really be surprised at the amount of ignorance dripping in Nairaland. Because people are so fixated in their ways that they have no grasp of the terminologies they use. In essence , people are not grounded in the subject but are only mouthing time worn prejudices they heard about people they do not know. The northe is more diversified thanm the norht in twerms of nationalities.
In this NL, i have come across people who have full grasp of this subject and have debated issues from that standpoint. One of them is Becomrich, the mapster, though he never really takes his arguments to the logical conclusion and always goes astray wit his maps and fixation with Benin Republic and having too many aliases. It is not without reason that we allow others to keep their ignorance as it is better for more meaningful discourse. We can live with the distraction and name calling and branding which is normal prejudice and is allowed.
As you can see, crime na to open eye------ so his people have eyes all over their bodies including you know where. If they call his people kidnappers and armed robbers and 419 and drug peddlars etc etc he go say na tribalism. There can't be one educated person that believes the whole North is even remotely all Hausa/Fulani.
