KunleOshob: Total federally collected revenue is actually in excess of N6 Trillion, although this revenue is shared btw federal, state and local goverments. The rest goes into our foreign reserves. So stop making a shallow comparision of just federal Goverment's share of it. The diaspora impact is actually very insignificant in the bigger economic picture. Nigerians actually remit more money abroad than comes into this country. Even if we cut it your way, is N1.5trillion of N6 Trillion a joke (a cool 25%)? Abi you don't know the meaning of "shallow comparision"? Guy, you fall your hand large! Abeg, let us submit hailings were hailings is due jare! |

This is difficult to swallow. What was the armies motive in putting out a resoundly false story? I mean, this absolutely takes the mickey: On Friday, the day after the Fort Hood shooting, Mr. Medley said Sergeant Munley had encountered Major Hasan, pistol in hand, chasing down a bleeding soldier. She fired at him, he turned, they rushed at each other firing and both fell, Mr. Medley said.
“He turned and charged her rapidly firing, and she did what she was trained to do,” Mr. Medley said that day. He added, “She is absolutely a hero.” http://www.nytimes.com/2009/11/13/us/13hood.html?pagewanted=2&_r=1Damn! |

DONAR autonomous, remotely operated artillery system Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW) and General Dynamics European Land Systems (GD ELS) announced a teaming agreement to develop and market a new generation, air deployable, autonomous and remotely operated 155mm artillery system. The two companies are unveiling at Eurosatory 2008 a new self-propelled 155/52 howitzer system utilizing KMW's Autonomous Gun Module (AGM) mounted on the Spanish ASCOD 2 chassis built by GDELS. The team is addressing the growing need for precise indirect fire capabilities to support NATO forces in remote areas of operations, augmenting or even replacing close-air-support operations previously conducted by costly fixed- or rotary-wing aircraft. . . http://defense-update.com/newscast/0608/news/news0706_donar.htm

Anti-ship ballistic missile (ACBM) - The 1st ever anti aircraft carrier missile (call it a game changer) The US Department of Defense has stated that China is developing a high hypersonic[1] land-based anti-ship ballistic missile based on the DF-21, with a range of up to 3,000 kilometres (1,900 mi).[4][5] These would combine manoeuvrable reentry vehicles (MaRVs) with some kind of terminal guidance system. Such a missile may have been tested in 2005-6, and the launch of the Jianbing-5/YaoGan-1 and Jianbing-6/YaoGan-2 satellites would give the Chinese targeting information from SAR and visual imaging respectively. The upgrades would allow China to employ the missile to destroy US Navy aircraft carriers.[6] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DF-21New Concerns Over Chinese 'Carrier-Killer' April 01, 2009 U.S. Naval Institute
With tensions already rising due to the Chinese navy becoming more aggressive in asserting its territorial claims in the South China Sea, the U.S. Navy seems to have yet another reason to be deeply concerned.
After years of conjecture, details have begun to emerge of a "kill weapon" developed by the Chinese to target and destroy U.S. aircraft carriers.
First posted on a Chinese blog viewed as credible by military analysts and then translated by the naval affairs blog Information Dissemination, a recent report provides a description of an anti-ship ballistic missile (ASBM) that can strike carriers and other U.S. vessels at a range of 2000km.
The range of the modified Dong Feng 21 missile is significant in that it covers the areas that are likely hot zones for future confrontations between U.S. and Chinese surface forces.
The size of the missile enables it to carry a warhead big enough to inflict significant damage on a large vessel, providing the Chinese the capability of destroying a U.S. supercarrier in one strike.
Because the missile employs a complex guidance system, low radar signature and a maneuverability that makes its flight path unpredictable, the odds that it can evade tracking systems to reach its target are increased. It is estimated that the missile can travel at mach 10 and reach its maximum range of 2000km in less than 12 minutes.
Supporting the missile is a network of satellites, radar and unmanned aerial vehicles that can locate U.S. ships and then guide the weapon, enabling it to hit moving targets.
While the ASBM has been a topic of discussion within national defense circles for quite some time, the fact that information is now coming from Chinese sources indicates that the weapon system is operational. The Chinese rarely mention weapons projects unless they are well beyond the test stages.
If operational as is believed, the system marks the first time a ballistic missile has been successfully developed to attack vessels at sea. Ships currently have no defense against a ballistic missile attack.
Along with the Chinese naval build-up, U.S. Navy officials appear to view the development of the anti-ship ballistic missile as a tangible threat.
After spending the last decade placing an emphasis on building a fleet that could operate in shallow waters near coastlines, the U.S. Navy seems to have quickly changed its strategy over the past several months to focus on improving the capabilities of its deep sea fleet and developing anti-ballistic defenses.
As analyst Raymond Pritchett notes in a post on the U.S. Naval Institute blog:
"The Navy's reaction is telling, because it essentially equals a radical change in direction based on information that has created a panic inside the bubble. For a major military service to panic due to a new weapon system, clearly a mission kill weapon system, either suggests the threat is legitimate or the leadership of the Navy is legitimately unqualified. There really aren't many gray spaces in evaluating the reaction by the Navy…the data tends to support the legitimacy of the threat."
In recent years, China has been expanding its navy to presumably better exert itself in disputed maritime regions. A recent show of strength in early March led to a confrontation with an unarmed U.S. ship in international waters. http://www.military.com/news/article/April-2009/new-concerns-over-chinese-carrier-killer.html?wh=whDamn!!

tga: What is $10bn just small thing naijaking1: Or a country where people who can't count go about pretending to be able to do so. No joke, I once had an encounter with a cousin-plumber who was asked to do a small repair on our house. He was going to have the job done for #2850, and no questions asked. Then, I made the mistake of calling him, and asking how much he was charging for the job, he said, just because it was me, he would just charge me #450,000. Shocked, I asked he if he know what he was talking about, "sure, that's how much I collect from people all the time" I asked him how many zeros were contained in forty five thousand naira, he said two, but he was not taling about #4500. webdezzi: i am not taking anything personal, but alway read b4 u leap. if u can still recollect someone saying java's strength lies on the web, that's why we are talking web.
moreover, python being called scripting language is only cos of it's ease of use, python is high level programming as java just that it automates some low level tasks than java. note also that php also has a toolkit binded to it that allows for desktop development. yea, initially, they were design for the web, now u can even do more. I very obviously read before I leapt, I was only commenting on your reaction, but let's not go there. I mentioned twitter earlier; the lessons of twitter (built with RoR) throw the limitations of half compiled, half scripting languages into spectacular light. Use them only for the smaller website where performance is of little consequence. If you have to deal with real time transactions (stock, commerce etc), you will serve your customers better by using the right tool (not PHP, Ruby, Python or the likes). |

Politics › Re: Is Development All About Personal Wealth? by Beaf(op): 5:33pm On Nov 12, 2009 |
hasyak: i don't believe our constitution is that weak on corruption, its the enforcement of what is even there that is the major issue, the law enforcement agencies and the courts? The constitutuition makes it extremely difficult to bring criminals to account, the reason being that all power is very heavily centered in Abuja. It is such a mismatch that when crimes are committed at state level, accountability is to Abuja . For example, the landscape is replete with ex-governors who cannot be brought to book (the "untouchables" , because the system has deliberately made the states too weak to challenge them (don't forget the current constitutuition was written during a dictatorship and foistered on the country in an undemocratic way). The "untouchable" class is not limited to ex-governors only, it extends to ex-presidents and to a lesser extent, all ex political office holders. It is extremely easy for criminal office holders to take advantage of consituitional loopholes and become "untouchables" that can do as they please. Those who cannot benefit directly can do so very easily by subsribing to "godsonship" or "goddaughtership", thus making the already powerful political criminal class into even more powerful criminal cabals. That is the sad story of today's Nigeria. |
