ninetiethcrown7: Haha, drilling oil is not beans... after licensing you would still need a whole lot of funds in order to initiate. Please go and find out about the other indigenous oil exploration companies and how they are fairing because Walter Smith and seplat are not having it as good as you would think.
Also, research the work you need to put in in order to be an upstream player, that's why most people would rather sell their OML's than explore it. Or better yet enter a partnership with one of the big boys.
Forte oil is not part of the big boys, it's bettered they continue on their downstream than risk it on upstream, because it is very easy to lose it all in crude exploration. Ask Boris becker how he is fairing, I'm sure it isn't great. The same downstream sector they are exiting in Ghana. Lol |

kjhova: There's nothing "lol" about middlestream, if you have anything near a pole length familiarity with the Oil and Gas sector. I didn't mention Forte Oil's core business because it is well known to be downstream. Moreso, the article itslef stated that the gains from the assets sales will be channelled to growing their core business by investing in new refining, storage and sales capacities. What more can you possibly want me to add to that?
No where in the world where everyone invest in the same business at the same time so no big deal if Dangote ventured into refining first. The industry is big enough for multiple players so I can't see your point of ridicule.
Calling Forte Oil stupid says much of your understanding of things as it passes you as embittered. Rest it, man. Typical. Any opposing views is seen my cavemen as hate and bitterness. It still boils down to lack of foresight. Take it or leave it. I am still seeing the future from my couch. |

ncoolsome: The company, majority owned by billionaire, Femi Otedola, has also been in talks with a major refinery to form a strategic partnership for local refining of petroleum products.
Ur statement shows y the rich would always be rich...this guy knows importing fuel would soon go extinct with dangote refinery n co...so he has decided to partner n build than keep importing.. He had to wait until Dangote started building a refinery before he starts his own...that's having a none player take advantage of you and your business. He will be cut out ! Still boils down to lack of innovation. |
Business › Re: Forte Oil To Sell Nigerian Assets, Exit Ghana by BedLam: 8:46am On May 03, 2018 |
kjhova: Generalization is at the core of every rant and I am quite sure you do not have any empirical evidence for your claim above that "Nigerian business lack innovation", whatever that means.
Yes, shares fell last year by 49% however it is up now and presently at N57+. The company has identified that losses from unyielding assets (including downstream Ghana business and Upstream Nigeria investments) are eroding gains from their core business. Management has taken a decision they consider best and now await board review and approval to sell off the said assets and invest same sum in growing the core business which has been profitable.
Please don't sit on your couch only to rant at well trained guys running big business which you don't understand much. If down stream in Ghana and upstream in Nigeria is being affected, then something is wrong! I can sit on my couch and see the future. I don't know about you. You still failed to mention theur core business since Upstream and Downstream in both countries are affected. I guess there's a middle stream? Lol! He had to wait for Dangote to start building a refinery before thinking of it ? That's stupid. He's been in that section for ages! |

mctolspell: It’s a sad story, how can DAAR pay dividends? There’s no tight regulations, no agency overseeing them. companies offering IPO in Nigeria, are only looking for ways to take the common man’s money, except Maybe banks as they have stricter regulatory bodies. Tell your friend to move on and forget about DAAR. Lol. I sure will. |
Business › Re: Forte Oil To Sell Nigerian Assets, Exit Ghana by BedLam: 8:12am On May 03, 2018 |
kjhova: Your comment is a rant as selling unyielding assets to focus on core business is normal practice for all businesses including both Aramco and Gazprom that you mentioned. The Reuters report didn't suggest that Forte is in distress but rather that the company is repositioning.
Get it, man. You didn't see where Forte Oil shares fall 49%? Now can you enlighten the public on what their core business is ? And what they are focusing on? If your assets are aren't yielding then that's bad business and from the ground up, Nigerian business lack innovation which is one thing businesses worldwide do. |
Business › Re: Forte Oil To Sell Nigerian Assets, Exit Ghana by BedLam: 8:09am On May 03, 2018 |
mctolspell: That’s it, malpractices and corruption, how can they succeed in Ghana where there is not subsidy regime or some other loop holes to siphon funds, no one is basically doing business the right way in Nigeria. No one! The market is there, the knowledge and innovation(as you rightly put) isn’t. My question is, do we really have people trading this equities on the stock exchange, cos last time I tried getting on NSE website, (one Monday morning) it was down. For all I care, I haven't even bother about NSE because I can't see why. Someone said DAAR shares he bought haven't yeild anything in years. The market as you'd expect will lack tight regulation and the companies behind them are a different story entirely. Then we talk about lack of new companies because growth is not encouraged. Spotify got listed on the NYSE last month. When was the last time a new company got listed on the NSE? I'm not talking MTN. How can companies come up when there's no innovation and funding ? I tire. |
Business › Re: Forte Oil To Sell Nigerian Assets, Exit Ghana by BedLam: 7:52am On May 03, 2018 |
mctolspell: As much as I agree with you, Gazprom and the likes had issues too when the oil price was low. Ask Angola, they still in recession. Most of this companies are one man owned though they are traded on the stock exchange.. they just enjoy the goodies(corruption in their own way) from any government in power. Not the right way of doing business. Part of Gazprom issues was from the sanctions...Don't think Angola has a top tier energy company anyway. Individuality is so imbibed in us that we fail to see how far we can go with partnerships. They enjoy the limited largesse corruption brings and that's all. They can't even expand to better countries because their business model is flawed with malpractices or maybe they even have none. Same thing applies to innoson, dude will rather have all the shares and control than expand with partnerships. |

That is what happens when you are not innovative just like most other Nigerian businesses like Dangote and Globalcom. These guys just rake in analogue money with no innovation on their side. After many years, these people can't drill oil. We still use Foreign companies to drill our own oil. Meanwhile China the world's largest importer of oil has one of the biggest Oil companies in the world.
You hear of Gazprom of Russia, Saudi Aramco and you wonder what we are doing in this part of the world.
The future will tell. I'm sure one day, cement won't be tasting this sweet. |

Agbaletu: Nigeria is far far ahead of Rwanda. For business, there is no basis for comparison. They don't have purchasing power at all. It is not easy for a foreigner to set up a business there except you are bringing lots of dollars. Small business enterprise is reserved for Rwandans and East Africans. Internet is OK, and you get it from mtn, Airtel and Tigo. He actually nailed it. You will need lots of dollars. I didn't see anything being produced. |
