Please don't read too much into the "curse God" and "talk back at my Mum" part. They are just urges that I have not carried out yet. And the "curse God" part came about because I used to be so into God in the past and when I backslid, I got angry because I was emotionally hurt since I believed that God forsook me. As for my mum's part, I just feel that I have reached a stage where no one can dictate to me again. Doesn't everyone reach that stage at some point?

I agree with you. When I first came to nairaland, I thought I will find discussions among people with "a little insight and perspective into serious issues," but I was disappointed. Almost every thread degenarates into sex-talk, name-calling, insults, and jingoistic rantings. Therefore, people that really want to feed their mind and contribute positively in an intellectual manner to the issues that face Nigeria are always left on the sidelines, or find themselves joining the fray. I hope we can get more people to support so that Seun and Kosovo will favorably consider your request.

I think this is going too far. I am not in any way supporting the Naija senators or anything, but if this can be done to them, imagine what is in store for the common man.

To me, what America is doing is nothing short of profiling/bullying. When the shoe bomber issue arose, I don't recall Britain being put on a terrorist nation list, neither were any Britons barred. Now it is a developing nation, and they are flexing muscles.

The sauce for the goose is supposed to be that of the gander.

It is not because Nigeria is a developing nation. Rather it is because NIgeria, unlike Britain, has not show clear and significant signs of battling with the problem of terrorism. With Britain, it could be excused as a lapse, but with Nigeria, it is seen as the beginning of worse things to come.

This is the most insightful and sensible article I have read in a long time. I have tried to express this sentiment to several people, but I have been hushed. I am glad to see someone with the hard facts and knowledge state the case so eloquently. The truth is, Nigeria, as a nation, is to full of itself. We really have superiority complex. We think we are more than we really are. And it is this kind of mentality that encourages the slowpokes we have for politicians to get away with the crap they do. Don't get me wrong. There is nothing wrong with a nation standing up for itself against the US. In fact, I have mild support for China's growing prominence as world power. But if you want to have mouth, you must have something concrete to have mouth about. Nigeria does not have that. We may have had it in the past: 1980s-1990s. But as of today, we are simply living on past glory. Wind don blow, fowl yansh don open. Now the whole world is laughing at the emperor's new clothes. They now realize that in reality we are nothing but a joke of a nation. They now know that we are not as important as we used to be and that things are definitely getting worse for us. Giant of Africa ko, Giant of Africa ni. I can go on and on to describe how this country is definitely headed for doom.

It all started some months after I arrived here. I noticed that I was beginning to change, especially mentally. I felt bolder, more manly, and more independent. I did not miss home and talked to my folks with reluctance (that is kind of complicated, though). Also, as numerous AA girls kept dangling sex in front of me and I kept drawing farther from God, I noticed that I was getting to the point where I could almost curse God. Finally, I dabbled in sexual relations of a mild form, initially with so much guilt at my hypocrisy, but subsequently with growing apathy. I noticed that I loathed conditions that made me obviously dependent on a person. So, with my friend from 9ja, although I initially used to ask him for favors, I stopped because it was getting into his head, and he was beginning to see himself as bigger-at least, that is how I perceived it. Now, I more likely to talk back to my friends or express my displeasure at an issue. Previously, I would have been my polite, gentle self. Today, I am sure if my mother gives me advice I don't like, I will tell straight up what I want to do and that I am not taking her advice. When I compare this present state of affairs to the meek, gentle, and sober boy I was years ago, I have no doubt in me that I have changed. But I am afraid. People back home always talked about how behaviors similar to this one I have lead to destruction. But my more academic/logical side tells me that I may be maturing. Which is it? Someone please help!

Please leave if you can't take it anymore. I am Christian and I know Jesus does not support divorce, but in reality, with women like this it is emotional stress of the highest order. I know what I am saying. I have lived someone like that for almost twenty years, and trust me, I am still battling with the effects today. It is not about the potency of the curses, it is about the emotional abuse you go through from having a home that is always on fire. If she will not change i.e. if you believe that there is no sign of progress and if you do not want to live like this for the rest of your life, carry your two salu batas and run for your dear life.

I have not seen nigerian girls like the ones you mentioned, but then the ones I have seen can help me postulate that more likely, than not, you are correct. They are the ugliest leeches ever to pass this earth.
