Phones / Samsung Galaxy A53: Mass Production Starts In India by beejayvince(m): 8:20pm On Dec 12, 2021
At a global Press Conference earlier this year in March, Samsung launched the Samsung Galaxy A52. Speculations of this device’s successor have been all over the internet these past few months.

According to reports, Samsung has commenced mass production of the Samsung Galaxy A53 at the company’s Greater Noida factory in India. With this in place, we expect Samsung to launch the phone soon.

The Samsung Galaxy A53 will reportedly come with a 120Hz AMOLED display with an Infinity-O screen design. The 120Hz refresh rate is gradually becoming the norm, even for mid-range phones.

Under the hood, the Samsung Galaxy A53 will use the Snapdragon 778G 5G chipset. It will also reportedly come with a quad rear camera setup with a 64MP main camera.

Samsung Galaxy A53 Color Options
It is reported that the Samsung Galaxy A53 will come in four color variants. These colors are Black, White, Light Blue, and Orange. It is however possible that Samsung will eventually introduce new color options or special editions of the device. It is only a matter of time before we see what exactly the company offers us with this new device.

Phones / Here’s The First Look At The Huawei P50 Series Camera Design: Hit Or Miss? by beejayvince(m): 3:48pm On May 13, 2021
Huawei is set to launch its latest flagship, the Huawei P50 series, in a few weeks. Of course, with the official announcement not so far away, it is only normal that leaks and speculations are currently available.

The Huawei P50 series will come in at least three models – the base Huawei P50, the Huawei P50 Pro, and the Huawei P50 Pro+. We have now seen some images of this series of smartphones, thanks to popular leakster, @RODENT950. The leakster did not say which of the models the leak was for, but the images look similar to what we have previously seen for the Huawei P50 Pro. Also, considering the quad-rear camera setup, it is likely the P50 Pro.

The leak shows that the model uses a “binocular-like” “dual-ring” rear camera module design. This is in line with older leaks. The camera arrangement appears to adopt a “3+1” layout with three cameras above and one camera below. This setup is accompanied by a dual-LED and ColorTemp sensor.

We expect Huawei to officially launch the P50 series in May or June. Earlier rumors have suggested that the Huawei P50 will come with a micro-curved screen, the P50 Pro with a waterfall screen, and the P50 Pro+ with a quad-curved screen. For the first time, all three models may use a center punch-hole design.

Under the hood, we expect the Huawei P50 series to feature the latest Kirin 9000E/9000 chipset. The battery capacity will reportedly range between 4,200mAh and 4,300mAh and it will support up to 66W fast wired charging and 55W fast wireless charging. The devices are expected to launch with HarmonyOS out-of-the-box.

Phones / Google To Pay A $100 Million Fine In Italy For Market Dominance by beejayvince(m): 3:21pm On May 13, 2021
Google is definitely one of the biggest tech companies in the whole world. It has the largest search engine and is one of the largest internet companies. So, it is no surprise that the company usually finds itself in lots of litigation. One of the most frequent issues that come up is the monopoly issue.

Over the past few years, there have been reports that Google was suppressing smaller companies with its dominant presence in the market. Now, the company has been fined $121 million. The Italian Anti-Monopoly Agency announced that it imposed this fine.

According to the agency, the fine is as a result of Google abusing its dominant market position. In addition to the fine, the agency wants Google to provide Enel X’s application for electric car charging-related services on Android Auto.

Of course, the Alphabet subsidiary is not new to fines like this. Just in December last year, French data privacy regulator CNIL also announced that it imposed a €100 million ($121 million) fine on Google. This was because the company’s cookie web tracking function violated relevant regulations.

Asides from the monopoly issues, Google also has to deal with user data handling and privacy issues. In fact, the search giant is somewhat in trouble right now for still having access to a large amount of data, even in incognito mode on its Chrome browser. There is also the issue of forceful acceptance of cookies. However, a recent announcement from the company has revealed that this will stop soon.

Phones / Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra S-pen Support Confirmed By FCC Listing by beejayvince(m): 1:12pm On Dec 24, 2020
Over the past few months, there have been rumors that Samsung was doing away with the Note series. Even with that, some other reports have it that the lineup is not going anywhere. With this uncertainty in place, fans have been wondering what would happen to the S-Pen if Samsung indeed axed the Note series.

There are reports that Samsung is trying to expand the use of its S-Pen to other lineups. This means that we may soon see the S-Pen on some S-series devices and not just the Note and some tab devices anymore.

As it turns out, other lineups’ support for the S-Pen is even closer than we thought. While earlier reports suggested that the Galaxy Z Fold 3 would be the first non-Note smartphone to support the S-Pen, we now know that it will actually be the Galaxy S20 Ultra.

A couple of weeks ago, Samsung made a statement, revealing that the Galaxy S21 Ultra would support the S-Pen. An FCC filing has now appeared to support the statement. According to the listing, the Samsung SMG998B (Galaxy S21 Ultra) in testing listed support for a stylus device with “two different inductive coupling modes of S-PEN motion detection (Hover and Click)” and an operating range of 0.53 – 0.6MHz.

Samsung will reportedly launch its upcoming flagship lineup on January 14. The company may, however, choose to sell the S-Pen for the Galaxy S21 Ultra separately. It is also not yet clear if the device will use the same S-Pen as the Note 20 series or if Samsung will give it a new one.

Phones / Samsung Galaxy S21 Series To Launch In January by beejayvince(m): 6:10pm On Oct 22, 2020
Over the past several years, Samsung has been known to announce its Galaxy S series smartphones in February with first sales starting in March. However, according to reports, this is about to change with the Galaxy S21.

There were earlier rumors that the Samsung Galaxy S21 would launch as early as December 2020 but SamMobile now claims that the phone will launch in January 2021 instead. With this launch period, the first sales are expected to start later in January or in early February.

Samsung suppliers are reportedly already mass-producing components for the Galaxy S21 series. This is over one month earlier than for the Galaxy S20 series. So, it appears that the change in launch schedule will indeed happen.

It is not yet clear exactly why Samsung would use this new release schedule. However, it could be a way to add space between the launches of the Galaxy S21 and the next-gen Galaxy Z foldable phone.

Phones / Huawei Mate 40 Pro’s Kirin 9000 Chipset Outperforms Snapdragon 865 On Geekbench5 by beejayvince(m): 8:52am On Oct 13, 2020
The Huawei Mate 40 Pro is expected to be launched on October 22. With this launch date just around the corner, we have been seeing more information about the upcoming phone. The result of the performance of the phone’s chipset is now making the rounds.

On the Huawei Mate 40 Pro, we will be seeing the Kirin 9000 SoC. This has passed through Geekbench5 tests with results that show better scores than the Samsung Galaxy S20+ 5G’s Snapdragon 865 chip. The Kirin 9000 posted approximately 9% and 15% better scores in single-core and multi-core tests respectively.

Three tests were run on the Huawei Mate 40 Pro’s Kirin 9000 chip and it recorded scores of 1021, 1020, and 1021 in the single-core tests and 3655, 3710, and 3789 in multi-core tests. The Galaxy S20+ 5G, on the other hand, recorded 920 and 956 single-core scores and 3285 and 3162 in multi-core scores. These results were posted on Twitter by @UniverseIce.

The Geekbench5 listing of the Mate 40 Pro also shows the device running Android 10 with 8GB RAM. It is just a shame that the Huawei Mate 40 Pro will likely only sell widely in China. This is considering the fact that it will not support Google Mobile Services. Such a powerful chipset deserves to be seen in devices everywhere.

Only a few days ago, we also saw the new Exynos 1080 chipset in an AnTuTu test, posting better scores than the Snapdragon 865+. The question now is, where will the Kirin 9000 stand when compared with the upcoming Snapdragon 875 and the Exynos 1090/2100?

Phones / Newly-announced Exynos 1080 Beats Snapdragon 865+ To Top Antutu Rating by beejayvince(m): 7:11pm On Oct 10, 2020
Samsung has officially announced its new flagship processor, the Exynos 1080 chipset. Dr. Yimao Cai of the company’s R & D Department made the announcement during an interview.

The Exynos 1080 chip is based on a 5nm manufacturing process. It makes use of Cortex-A78 cores and the Mali-G78 GPU.

Talking about this flagship chip, Dr. Yimao Cai made mention of its AuTuTu test score. He stated that the Exynos 1080 already exceeded 650,000 points in the test. This is expected to get even better after optimization.

When compared with the average test scores of smartphones using the Snapdragon 865 and Snapdragon 865+ chipsets, even the 650,000 point tops them. These other phones scored more in some cases. However, according to the official data on the average AnTuTu scores, Asus ROG Phone 3 leads with a score of 615,000. This means that the Exynos 1080 is still ahead.

We expect the Vivo X60 to be the first smartphone running the Exynos 1080 chipset. The phone is already being advertised in retail stores in China, but there are no solid details on it yet.

The word in bold is probably an error and that makes all the difference.

Phones / Samsung Galaxy M31 Prime With 6,000mah Battery And Exynos 9611 Soc Coming Soon by beejayvince(m): 12:15am On Oct 08, 2020
A promo page of the Samsung Galaxy M31 Prime has appeared on the Amazon India website. This page reveals the design and specifications of the upcoming new version of the Galaxy M31.

Just like the Samsung Galaxy M31, the Galaxy M31 Prime will use the Exynos 9611 chipset. This is coupled with 6GB of RAM. In terms of storage, the phone comes in two variants – 64GB storage and 128GB storage.

The Samsung Galaxy M31 Prime will have a set of cameras similar to that of the Galaxy M31s. However, instead of the 12MP ultrawide camera seen on the M31, the M31 Prime will have 8MP. The other sensors include a 64MP main camera, a 5MP macro lens, and a 5MP depth sensor. On the front is s 32MP selfie camera. The location of the fingerprint scanner has also been moved to the back cover on the Galaxy M31 Prime.

The Samsung Galaxy M31 Prime will be powered by a 6,000mAh battery which can be charged via the USB-C port with support for up to 15W charging. A 3.5mm audio jack is present on the phone.

Talking about the pricing, it is not yet clear if Samsung will make the Galaxy M31 Prime cheaper or more expensive than the Galaxy M31s. This is because both phones are almost indistinguishable from each other. It is only a matter of time before we find out.

Phones / Tiktok Surpasses Instagram To Become The Second Favorite Social App by beejayvince(m): 11:44pm On Oct 07, 2020
Social media applications are very popular among teenagers in the United States. Some of the most popular of these include Snapchat, Instagram, and TikTok. Snapchat is the most popular of all. This is followed by TikTok after the Chinese video app recently surpassed Instagram to become the second favorite social media application among American teenagers.

According to Piper Sandler’s data, 34% of American teenagers ranked Snapchat as their favorite social application. TikTok comes second with 29% while Instagram is now third with 25% of Americans choosing it as their favorite social application.

The report did not fail to show that actual usage is a different story. In terms of usage, Instagram comes first with 84% engagement. This is followed by Snapchat with 80%. TikTok comes third in this regard with 69%.

TikTok has been steadily gaining market share among American teenagers. This is obviously a threat to other social applications. To tackle this, Facebook released Reels back in August. Reels allows users to make short video clips, lip-sync, dance, and perform sketches. However, it has not gained as much traction as Facebook expected.

Phones / Samsung Galaxy S21 Series To Use Chinese Batteries by beejayvince(m): 10:35pm On Oct 07, 2020
Samsung is expected to launch the Galaxy S21 series next February. Even though that is still a while away, details of the upcoming series have started surfacing. Recent reports have revealed an interesting piece of information about the Samsung Galaxy S21 series battery.

Usually, Samsung SDI is in charge of the batteries found on Samsung’s flagship phones. However, the company sometimes sources for batteries for its flagship phones from multiple suppliers. This time around, reports point at batteries from China.

According to the reports, Samsung’s next S-series flagships will use batteries from China’s ATL (Amperex Technology Limited, New Energy Technology Co., Ltd.). Following the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 battery incident in 2016, the Korean company had to exclude ATL from its list of premium product line suppliers.

Since the exclusion, ATL has still been supplying batteries for Samsung’s low- and mid-range phones such as the Samsung Galaxy A and Galaxy M series. For its flagship models, Samsung currently mainly uses battery supplies from Samsung SDI and LG Chem. Packaging companies such as ITM Semiconductor are there to ensure battery stability.

Now, if the current reports making the rounds are anything to go by, then ATL is mass-producing batteries for the Samsung Galaxy S21 series. This series is expected to include at least three smartphones – Galaxy S21, Galaxy S21 Plus, and Galaxy S21 Ultra with battery capacities of 4,000mAh, 4,800mAh, and 5,000mAh.

ATL will reportedly not be the sole supplier of batteries for the Galaxy S21 series. However, it is not yet clear how Samsung will split the orders. At the end of the day, though, all batteries will still pass through the same verification process, so it may not really matter which is which.

Thanks to a recent leak we saw the price of the OnePlus 8T flagship device, with its official launch slated for October 14. However, a different leak by popular tipster Ishan Argawal has revealed a contradictory price of the upcoming OnePlus flagship based on its premature listing on Amazon Germany.

The Amazon Germany listing of the OnePlus 8T revealed a 12GB RAM + 256GB storage edition priced at 699 Euros. So, Ishan Argawal has claimed that it would cost 699 Euros, with the lower 8GB RAM + 128GB storage variant costing 599 Euros. In comparison, the same variants of the OnePlus 8 launched at 799 Euros and 699 Euros respectively. This would make the OnePlus 8T series roughly 100 Euros cheaper than the OnePlus 8 series. You should, however, remember that this is just a leak and may not eventually be the actual pricing.

Phones / Samsung Developer Conference 2020 Has Been Officially Canceled by beejayvince(m): 9:13am On Sep 22, 2020
This year featured a lot of surprises that have shaped its events in the smartphone industry to the disappointment of many. One of the events canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic is Samsung’s annual Developer Conference. Samsung announced this cancelation on its Developer website. The event was canceled due to the need for safety for the company’s employees, developer communities, and for other guests in attendance.

Although there was yet to be any specified date for the Samsung Developer Conference 2020, it traditionally holds in October or November. There had been some speculations – through SamMobile – that the tech giant would cancel the gathering with the ongoing pandemic as an excuse.

Samsung uses the event to announce updates to its software services like Bixby. There are also rumors stating a possibility of Google and Samsung partnering in a deal to replace some Samsung native apps, e.g. Samsung Daily news feed or Galaxy App store.

The Samsung Developer Conference holds some memorable moments, e.g., the first glimpses of the Galaxy Fold and Galaxy Z Flip were seen there. Samsung also used the SDC as a platform to explain its Android-based software, the One UI in versions 1.0 and 2.0. There was also a possibility of Samsung using SDC 20 to unveil its One UI 3.0, but the COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted a whole lot this year. However, it’s likely for the next version of One UI to be unveiled at Samsung’s digital event which will be held later this year.

Just as the keynote came to an end during the launch of the LG Wing, the company brought up a “one more thing” teaser. This teaser showed a phone with a slide-out display, likely LG‘s new Explorer Project device.

At the end of the teaser, we see a “HOLD YOUR BREATH” text and a reminder that the device is a part of the LG Explorer Project. No further details were revealed about the phone, but we will definitely get more information soon enough.

Phones / LG Wing With Swiveling Design, 64MP Main Camera, And Snapdragon 765G Launched by beejayvince(m): 7:10am On Sep 16, 2020
LG has always been known for trying out new features on its phones. The company already has dual-screen systems on its LG V50 and LG V60 phones. However, the LG Wing has taken the whole dual-screen experience a step further with its swiveling design. LG has just launched the LG Wing as a part of its Explorer Project.

The LG Wing sports a curved 6.8-inch FHD+ P-OLED main display with an aspect ratio of 20.5:9. The secondary display is a 3.9-inch FHD+ G-OLED display with an aspect ratio of 1.15:1. Even though there is no official IP rating for the Wing, the screens come with a water-repellent coating.

The swivel design of the LG Wing features a dual-lock mechanism and a hydraulic damper for absorbing shock. According to LG, the phone should be able to survive up to 200,000 swivels. This is similar to Motorola‘s claim that its new RAZR phone can withstand up to 200,000 folds and unfolds. It is also interesting to note that LG has managed to get the dimensions of the LG Wing close to regular smartphones. It measures 169.5 x 74.5 x 10.9 mm and weighs 260 grams.

Thanks to the secondary display of the LG Wing, you can use it as a regular smartphone and pop the main screen horizontally for extra features while still having a display below for controls. It also allows you to get notifications without interference, leaving you with a more immersive viewing experience. The LG Wing seems to show the company betting big on content creation and consumption.

The LG Wing is not all about content viewing. With the secondary display, you also get to edit videos directly after shooting them. Even GPS navigation is not left out; you can do it while managing incoming notifications on the secondary screen.

The LG Wing is also quite impressive under the hood. The phone uses the Snapdragon 765G chipset with Adreno 620 GPU. It enjoys 8GB of RAM as well as 128GB and 256GB storage options. The phone has a gimbal mode with a virtual joystick on the secondary screen. Powering the phone is a 4,000mAh battery with support for wireless charging.

In the camera department, we see a triple camera setup. This comprises a 64MP main shooter, a 12MP ultrawide camera for swivel mode, and another 13MP ultrawide camera. The company opted to use a pop-up mechanism for the selfie camera which is a 32MP shooter.

LG is working on bringing new life into smartphone design through its Explorer Project. The Project involves taking risks and bringing practical innovations to its customers. LG also revealed a range of upcoming partnerships with companies such as Qualcomm, search engine Naver, and streaming platforms Tubi and Ficto.

LG Wing Price and Availability
Of course, you want to know what this innovative phone costs. Unfortunately, LG has not yet revealed the pricing or release date details of the LG Wing. However, according to reports, it will come to the US on Verizon first, followed by AT&T and T-Mobile.

Phones / Oneplus 8T Appears On BIS With Snapdragon 865 by beejayvince(m): 6:22am On Sep 14, 2020
The OnePlus 8T has its launch imminent as the upcoming flagship device has recently been certified by India’s Bureau of Standards. The BIS page revealed the device labeled with model number KB20001, like one spotted on Geekbench back in July. The device already has a codename “Kebab”. It has some powerful specifications which are listed below.

The result recorded on Geekbench revealed that the OnePlus 8T has 8GB RAM, although there is a possibility of other variants being available. The device is also said to run on Android 11 and be powered by Snapdragon 865 chipset, instead of the expected Snapdragon 865 Plus in an earlier tweet posted by Abhishek Yadav.

The OnePlus 8T device is expected to have a flat AMOLED display with a hole-punch at its top left corner for its selfie camera. Compared to its predecessor, this device should bring along some improvements in its camera, charging, and other departments, just like the OnePlus 8 Pro.

With the launch of the OnePlus 7T as a reference, the OnePlus 8T should be expected by the end of September.

Phones / Samsung Leads The Smartphone Market In South Korea With A 67% Market Share by beejayvince(m): 8:35pm On Sep 12, 2020
According to a popular analytical firm Counterpoint Research, Samsung has led the Smartphone Market in South Korea for Q2 2020. Other runner-ups include Apple and LG in second and third positions respectively. The research firm is however yet to release a report on its website but has sent these reports to media houses in South Korea.

With reference to the report, Samsung is still at the top with a 67% market share, as well as improving by 3% QoQ. Apple fell in second place with a 19% market share, while growing at a tiny 1% QoQ. LG, on the other hand, remained in third place with a 13% market share and declining QoQ by 3%.

Samsung’s lead in the South Korea Smartphone Market may be due to the strong sale of its Galaxy A series and Galaxy S20 series. The report released by Counterpoint Research even pointed out that the Galaxy A series made 5 out of the company’s top 10 bestsellers. Apple’s iPhone SE 2020 was the best-selling smartphone in Q2 2020.

It was also recorded that the prices of the Galaxy A-series bestsellers which recorded 45% of Samsung’s sales were priced below $400. Sales also increased by 33% YoY since South Korea has always been a top market for flagship devices. The only issue these companies faced was due to the Pandemic, as reported by Counterpoint Research in May.

On a final note, a decrease of 8% YoY in South Korea’s smartphone market was also recorded despite its 9% increase QoQ in Q2 2020.

Phones / EMUI 11 Promo Video Hints At 66W Fast-charging For The Huawei Mate 40-series by beejayvince(m): 8:09pm On Sep 12, 2020
The HiSilicon chip used in the Mate 40 series is manufactured on a 5nm node process. Aside from a powerful silicon chipset, this flagship device from Huawei will also be available with high-end features such as a possible 66W fast charging, which was hinted in a new EMUI 11 Promo Video.

At the Huawei Developer Conference 2020, the company unveiled its HarmonyOS 2.0 and EMUI 11 which has its build available for about ten (10) of the company’s devices. Huawei also released some promotional videos for the EMUI 11, with one of them showcasing its new charging animation with MAX 66W text.

The video however seems to have been brought down by the company since it wasn’t there when we searched for it. However, what we have is a screengrab from the video which was posted on Weibo by Digital Chat Station.

Aside from Digital Chat Station’s post, we saw in early June a 66W Huawei charger at China’s 3C certification bureau. We also think there is a possibility of the Mate 40-series having this charger in its box.
