Phones / Watch The POCO F2 Pro Launch Event Here As The Device Launches Today by beejayvince(m): 1:39pm On May 12, 2020
When Xiaomi launched the POCO F1 in 2018, it became an instant success. This was expected because the device was considered the cheapest phone with the most powerful Snapdragon chip at the time.

After that launch, customers have been waiting for the successor to the POCO F1. Earlier this year, we got word of a POCO X2 but it was not exactly a POCO F1 successor. Then, a few days ago, Xiaomi officially announced that the POCO brand was back. We reported that the POCO F2 Pro would be launched on May 12. Finally, the POCO F2 Pro launches today.

Now, POCO and Redmi are two different brands that are focusing on cost-friendly smartphones. So the devices under both brands may be similar in many aspects. This is not different for the POCO F2 Pro as the device has been considered to be the international variant of the Redmi K30 Pro.

The POCO F2 sports a 4,700mAh battery life that is said to be able to last for 2 days on a single charge. It comes with 30W fast charging that the brand says will charge the phone to 100% in 63 minutes.

Phones / iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max can display 1 Billion Colors by beejayvince(m): 12:58pm On May 12, 2020
Rumors of Apple’s iPhone 12 series have been making the rounds a lot lately. One of the most recent reports has it that the lower models of the iPhone 12 series will use sub-6GHz 5G to make them cheaper. New reports have now surfaced, claiming that the higher models of the series will sport 10-bit Super Retina XDR screens.

This new report was shared by PhoneArena. In addition to the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max supporting the 10-bit Super Retina XDR screen, we now also know that they will have a base memory variant of 6GB + 128GB.

Talking about the screen, this appears to be the biggest upgrade that we will see in the series. What the report simply means is that the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max screens will be able to display more than 1 billion colors. In relation, the iPhone 11 Pro’s 8-bit panel only supports 16.7 million colors.

Meanwhile, one of the main features of the iPhone 12 is the A14 Bionic processor. This chip has 15 billion transistors, way more than the A13’s 8.5 billion transistors. The iPhone 12 series is expected to launch in September. We should get more information about the device in the coming weeks and months.

Phones / Redmi To Launch A Mediatek Dimensity 800 5G Phone Soon; It Could Cost Just $225 by beejayvince(m): 8:03am On May 12, 2020
Redmi has just announced the Redmi K30 5G Racing Edition. But asides from that, the Chinese brand is also set to launch a new 5G smartphone this month.

According to information from Lu Weibing, the General Manager of the Redmi brand, and Wang Teng, the Redmi Product Director, the brand will use the MediaTek Dimensity 800 5G chip soon. The Dimensity 800 5G chip is MediaTek’s dual-mode 5G chip for the mid-market.

Considering the fact that the Dimensity 800 chip is quite cheap, the new smartphone may be the cheapest 5G device from Redmi out there. We do not yet know what the name of the device will be. However, according to sources, it will be in the Note 9 or Note 10 series. If the device launches in standard and Pro versions, then the former may use the Dimensity 800 chip while the latter uses the Dimensity 800+ chip.

There is no official information yet from Redmi about which device will use the Dimensity 800 SoC. In fact, with the rate at which Xiaomi has been rebranding its smartphones, we cannot tell if it will just be a rebranding of an older phone.

The new Redmi Note series may come with a price range of 1599 Yuan ($225) – 1999 Yuan ($282). This would probably make it cheaper than the Redmi K30 5G Racing Edition with its 1,999 Yuan ($282) price tag.

Phones / Redmi Note 8 Pro Beats Samsung Galaxy S20+ In Gaming Test by beejayvince(m): 6:57pm On May 10, 2020
The mid-range Redmi Note 8 Pro has beaten the flagship Samsung Galaxy S20+ in a gaming test. Who could have thought?

The Redmi Note 8 Pro was launched in 2019 as one of the best mid-range phones of its time. In fact, it can be said to be a gaming phone considering the fact that it uses the MediaTek Helio G90T processor, one made for gaming. This device currently goes for about 1299 Yuan (roughly $184) for the 6GB RAM plus 128GB storage variant.

The Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus is one of the devices in Samsung’s flagship Galaxy S20 lineup launched back in February. It is said to be one of the most powerful smartphones in the world right now and goes for about $1,000.

YouTuber Chong Li took to the platform to post a video comparing gaming on the Redmi Note 8 with its MediaTek G90T chipset and gaming on the Samsung Galaxy S20+ (with its Exynos 990 chipset). He ran the test for 30 minutes using PUBG Mobile. PUBG Mobile is a high-graphics game for mobile devices.

The result of the test was quite shocking. While the Redmi Note 8 Pro recorded a stable 60fps frame rate throughout the 30 minutes, the Galaxy S20+ struggled to even give 40fps. In fact, the flagship phone dropped from 60fps to 50fps just after 10 minutes.

So what caused the frame rate drop in the Samsung Galaxy S20+? It is a result of overheating and throttling, an issue that has plagued Exynos chipsets for some time. Note that there is also a Samsung Galaxy S20+ variant that is powered by the Snapdragon 865 processor. It reportedly generally performs better than the Exynos 990 variant.

Samsung is working on making the Exynos chipset better. The upcoming Galaxy Note 20 series will reportedly use a new Exynos 992 chipset which is expected to be 1-3% more power-efficient than the Snapdragon 865. Work is also ongoing on the Exynos 1000 chipset in collaboration with AMD. We expect to see this in the successor to the Galaxy S20 lineup next year.

Phones / A Buyer Accidentally Received 10 Google Pixel 4 Phones After Ordering For One by beejayvince(m): 12:25pm On May 10, 2020
Google’s online store recently engaged in promotional activities. In the promo, the price of the Google Pixel 4 was slashed from $799 to $499. Of course, as expected, this attracted thousands of new buyers to the store to purchase the Pixel 4. However, something went wrong somewhere.

According to reports from 9to5Google on May 9, a user bought a 64GB version of the Pixel 4 but Google shipped 10 units instead. This user reportedly took to Reddit to share his ‘success’ story. He stated that he purchased only one unit of the Pixel 4, 64GB variant (at a promo price of $499), but instead got 10 units mailed to him.

The source said that according to US Law, a user can accept all 10 Pixel phones. However, on the advice of his wife, the user contacted Google Customer Service and agreed to return the extra units. Imagine Google’s surprise too.

Phones / The iPhone 12 is equipped with sub-6GHz 5G to make it cheaper by beejayvince(m): 2:46pm On May 09, 2020
Apple is expected to launch the iPhone 12 series in September. There has been a lot of talk about the lineup for months now. One of the major highlights of the talks is the fact that the iPhone 12 lineup will feature 5G technology.

At first, there were reports that Apple held talks with Qualcomm as regards the use of 5G. However, Apple reportedly did not like Qualcomm’s 5G antenna design, so the company wanted to design it by itself. Now, a new leak has dropped that updates us on what to expect with the iPhone 12’s 5G.

Reports have it that Apple will introduce four models of the iPhone 12. However, even though all four models will feature 5G technology, they will not all use the same 5G standards. The 5.4-inch and 6.1-inch models of the iPhone 12 will not have the mmWave 5G connection. This means that even though they will support 5G, they may not be used efficiently.

Now, sub-6GHz networks can offer download speeds between 200Mbps and 300Mbps in the United States. Of course, this is more than enough for most consumers. But the higher iPhone 12 models will offer much higher speeds.

It is important to note that Verizon’s 5G network is completely based on mmWave 5G technology. This means that Verizon line users will not be able to use 5G on their lower iPhone 12 models.

Huawei has just launched a new mid-range smartphone in the budget Y series. The phone, Huawei Y8s could be said to be the “flagship representative” of the Y series which is reportedly dedicated to young users.

The Huawei Y8s recently appeared on the official website of Huawei Jordan. So we have information about the technical specifications of the phone. One of the most interesting highlights of the device is that unlike other newer models, it comes with Google Services pre-installed.

The Huawei Y8s is built around a 6.5-inch IPS LCD screen with a resolution of 2340 x 1080 pixels. This display has a notch that houses the device’s dual-selfie camera setup.

The device has a dual-camera setup on the rear with a 48MP main shooter and a 2MP depth sensor. The selfie camera setup comprises an 8MP main shooter and a 2MP depth sensor.

Under the hood, the Huawei Y8s uses the Kirin 710 chipset. It boasts an octa-core CPU consisting of four Cortex-A73 cores and four Cortex-A53 cores. This is coupled with the Mali G51-MP4 for graphics performance.

Phones / Realme X3 Pro With Snapdragon 865 Soc Allegedly Spotted On Antutu by beejayvince(m): 10:28am On May 08, 2020
A previously unseen Realme phone with model number RMX2072 has now allegedly been spotted on AnTuTu. The phone, which posted a score of 600,806, is rumored to be the Realme X3 Pro. It will reportedly be powered by the Snapdragon 865 chipset.

A few weeks ago, the Realme X3 with model number RMX2142 passed through TENAA. There were also signs of an X3 SuperZoom with model number RMX2086. This will use the Snapdragon 855+ chipset and support 30W charging. But there was nothing about the Realme X3 Pro.

The alleged Realme X3 Pro will have UFS 3.1 storage. In comparison, the Realme X2 Pro had UFS 3.0. We do not yet have word on the screen size of the X3 Pro. However, we believe that it will be close to the X3’s 6.5-inch panel (as seen on TENAA).

The Realme X3 Pro will likely have a refresh rate that’s higher than 60Hz. This is considering the fact that even the X2 Pro has a 90Hz screen. Could the alleged Realme X3 Pro be related to the Realme phone that leaked last month with a vertical strip along the middle of its back? It is only a matter of time before all these details are confirmed.

Phones / This Upcoming New Samsung Galaxy Smartphone Will Blow The Galaxy Note 20 Away by beejayvince(m): 5:32am On May 07, 2020
Samsung has confirmed the release of the Galaxy Note 20. With the specifications of the device, it has the potential to be one of the best smartphones of 2020. Now, it appears that Samsung is working on a new Galaxy smartphone that is set to blow the Note 20 away.

We recently reported some amazing benchmark results of the Exynos 1000 chipset. This chip uses a custom AMD Radeon GPU and Samsung has apparently been logging benchmarks on GFXBench for its first Galaxy phone to use the chip.

The radical new Galaxy smartphone’s chipset may deliver as much as 3x the performance of the current fastest Android chipset, the Snapdragon 865. In fact, it is enough to blow away Apple’s A13 Bionic chipset. The A13 Bionic is seen in the iPhone 11 series as well as the new iPhone SE. It is, however, reported to be underclocked in the iPhone SE.

The first Galaxy smartphone sporting the new chip may launch as early as 2021. This is quite important, considering the woeful performance of the Exynos 990 against Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 865. Samsung will launch the Exynos 1000 in 2021 and it may just be right on time for the radical new phone.

Phones / Apple May Lose About $18 Billion If New Iphone Is Delayed by beejayvince(m): 4:29am On May 07, 2020
Apple launched the new iPhone SE last month. In fact, Apple CEO Tim Cook, has said that the phone is faster than the fastest Android phones. He said this a few days after the phone’s AnTuTu scores revealed an underclocked A13 Bionic chip. Regardless of all that, Apple is yet to launch its flagship device for the year.

Now, a report from Goldman Sachs has estimated that Apple may lose about $18 billion in revenue if the new iPhone is not released until November. As reported by Gizchina, it would mean a 14% year-on-year decrease in Apple iPhone sales.

Apple usually releases new iPhone flagships every September. This year’s flagship has a ring to it – it is the first iPhone that supports 5G mobile networks. Apple is also expected to make some major design adjustments to the iPhone. We have already seen the iPhone 12 Pro Max in leaked renders.

So will Apple delay the new iPhone? The current turn of events around the world suggests that the launch of the iPhone 12 lineup may be delayed till November. Even if it is launched in September, the global economic downturn will probably make potential buyers think twice.

Phones / Qualcomm Snapdragon 875 Specs Leak; It Uses A 5nm Process And The Adreno 660 GPU by beejayvince(m): 3:30pm On May 06, 2020
The war among mobile chipsets appears to be getting fiercer by the day. Details of the specifications of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 875 processor have just leaked, and the specs are pretty interesting.

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 875 chipset has now appeared in a new leak, and we have seen some of its specifications. The chip has the code name SM8350. One of the highlights is that it will be built on a 5nm process. It will come with the X60 5G modem-RF system. However, the leak did not reveal if Qualcomm will integrate the 5G modem or make it optional. If the current market trends are anything to go by though, Qualcomm will likely integrate it.

We expect the Qualcomm Snapdragon 875 chip to feature some upgrade in performance, but we do not yet know by how much it will perform better than the Snapdragon 865.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 875 Specifications
The leaked specifications of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 875 chipset have revealed a lot about the chip. In the CPU department, the chip will come with a Kryo 685 CPU built on Arm v8 Cortex technology. It will use an Adreno 660 GPU, Adreno 665 VPU, and Adreno 1095 DPU.

In the connectivity department, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 875 supports 3G/ 4G/ 5G modem – millimeter wave (mmWave) as well as sub-6GHz bands. It also supports external 802.11ax, 2×2 MIMO, and Bluetooth Milan.

If older release time tables are followed, Qualcomm will likely release the Snapdragon 875 at its year-end conference in December. However, we cannot say for sure right now, considering the effects of the current coronavirus pandemic around the world.

Phones / Mediatek Officially Unveils The Helio G85 Chipset by beejayvince(m): 2:37am On May 06, 2020
Last week, Xiaomi unveiled the Redmi Note 9. There were earlier rumors that the phone would launch with the MediaTek Dimensity 800 chipset. However, the Redmi Note 9 launched with a chipset called Helio G85 by MediaTek.

MediaTek has now officially detailed the Helio G85 chipset. The chip keeps the same CPU as the Helio G80. However, it comes with a slightly faster GPU.

The Helio G85 chipset comes with an octa-core CPU that comprises two Cortex-A75 cores running at 2.0GHz and six Cortex-A55 cores running at 1.8GHz. In the GPU department, the Mali-G52 is now clocked at 1GHz, a slight improvement over the Helio G80’s 950MHz.

According to MediaTek, the Helio G85 chipset can intelligently predict Wi-Fi and LTE concurrency and can switch between networks in just 13ms. This is fast enough to provide a lag-free connection.

The new chipset also comes with a faster response between the cell phone and cell towers. Also, while in a game, the chip will defer calls without dropping the data connection. This is an issue that many devices, even flagships, are struggling with.

MediaTek has already started shipping the Helio G85 chipset to manufacturers. We will likely see more phones in the low price range sporting the chipset very soon.

Phones / COVID-19: Infinix Mobility Donates Food And Other Materials To Lagos State Govt. by beejayvince(m): 9:29pm On May 05, 2020
Many industries around the world are currently at a standstill as a result of the current coronavirus pandemic. In fact, it is so bad that global smartphone shipments in the first quarter of 2020 dropped by 17% year-on-year. In spite of this, some companies are donating relief materials to help people across the world survive this period.

Infinix Mobility played that role in Nigeria today, donating a truck-load of various food items and materials worth several millions of Naira to the Lagos State Government. These materials are meant to support the Government in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mrs. Solape Hammond, the Special Adviser to the State Governor on SDGs and Investment, received the items on behalf of the State. Other people in attendance were Mrs. Abosede George, Director, Admin and Human Resources, Office of SDGs and Investment; Mr. Opeyemi Adewunmi, Infinix Brand Representative; and Mr. Charles Edosawon, CEO, TEKSIGHT EDGE PR.

Phones / Samsung’s Exynos 1000 Chipset Performs 3 Times Better Than Snapdragon 865 by beejayvince(m): 12:56pm On May 05, 2020
Samsung is well-known for its phones, but the company makes other electronics and components as well. In fact, the company owns the Exynos chipset line. However, this chipset is not as popular as Qualcomm’s Snapdragon chips and MediaTek’s chips. One could even say that it cannot be compared to Huawei‘s Kirin chips.

However, new information shows that things are about to change. Recently, there have been leaks about Samsung’s new Exynos 1000 processor. The chip uses RDNA GPU technology, replacing the existing Mali GPU. Samsung authorized RDNA GPU technology in June 2019.

The running score of the Exynos 1000 is very good because of the RDNA GPU. The chip scored 181.8fps in Manhattan 3.1. This is almost 1.5 times the 123fps score of the Snapdragon 865’s Adreno 650 GPU. In the Aztec ruins (Normal) test with higher performance requirements, the Exynos 1000 reached 138.25fps. This is almost 2.5 times what is obtained in the Snapdragon 865’s 53fps. Finally, in the Aztec ruins (High) test, the Exynos 1000 attained 58fps, almost 3 times the Snapdragon 865’s 20fps.

The Exynos 1000 will be built on a 5nm process. It is expected to be released at the end of this year or early next year. This means that the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Note 20 that will be released in the second half of 2020 may not use it. We may likely see the Exynos 1000 chipset in the new-generation Galaxy S series flagship next year.

Phones / Meizu 17 To Launch On May 8 With The Meizu Super Mcharge USB-C Power Bank by beejayvince(m): 8:05am On May 05, 2020
Meizu is set to unveil the Meizu 17, a phone that we already earlier reported would launch in the first half of 2020. The phone will launch on May 8 and we have seen official posters.

According to the official posters of the Meizu 17, the smartphone will come with a 4,500mAh battery with support for 30W Super mCharge. The smartphones in the series will also come with a GaN charging head with a foldable plug.

We now also have information that in addition to the Meizu 17 series, the company will also release a Super mCharge USB-C power bank. The power bank has an LED display which we believe will show the battery level. However, we do not have information on what its charging capacity will be.

The Meizu Super mCharge USB-C power bank may launch alongside the Meizu 17 series on May 8. Meizu has revealed that the Meizu 17’s battery can last for 11.77 hours (with active 5G network). The phone will achieve this using the Meizu mSmart 5G technology. This power-saving technology allows the 5G phone to save over 60% power.

If the rumors are anything to go by, the Meizu 17 will sport a 6.5-inch 90Hz AMOLED panel with a single punch-hole. It will have an in-display fingerprint sensor and will be powered by the Snapdragon 865 chipset.

Phones / Coronavirus: Global Smartphone Shipments Drop By 17% In Q1 2020 by beejayvince(m): 7:02am On May 05, 2020
The latest research from Strategy Analytics has revealed that global smartphone shipments in the first quarter of 2020 dropped by 17% year-on-year. Altogether, a total of 275 million units were shipped. This reportedly makes it the worst quarterly performance in the history of the smartphone industry.

Samsung still maintained the number one spot, holding 21.2% of the market share. Coming second is Huawei with 17.6% of the market share. Apple holds the third spot with 14.3%. Rounding up the top 5 were Xiaomi with 10% and Oppo with 8.2%.

The drastic drop in smartphone shipments to 275 million units in Q1 2020 is not much of a surprise, considering the coronavirus pandemic ravaging the world right now. In comparison, the first quarter of 2019 recorded a total shipment of 330.4 million units.

Even though Samsung maintained the top position, it was still the most hit of the top five brands. The company reported a total shipment of 58.3 million units. This is a 19% drop from its 71.8 million units in the same period last year. It is also the lowest for Samsung in eight years.

Huawei, in second position, reported an 18% decline with 48.5 million units shipped in Q1 2020. For Apple, the 43.1 million units shipped in Q1 2020 meant a 9% decline. Xiaomi shipped 27.5 million units in the first quarter of 2020, a 0% drop from Q1 2019. Oppo then rounded up the Top 5 list with 22.6 million units shipped in Q1 2020, a decline of 24%.

Phones / Second-gen Samsung Galaxy Z Flip’s Triple-camera Setup Appears In New Patent by beejayvince(m): 11:32pm On May 04, 2020
The launch of the successor to the first generation Samsung Galaxy Z Flip is probably months away. However, we have now seen a new patent for the second-gen Galaxy Z Flip online. Samsung filed the patent with the World Intellectual Property Office (WIPO).

The patent shows that Samsung is apparently considering two different designs for the foldable phone. One noticeable difference between both designs is the camera setup. While both models sport a triple camera setup, Model A’s setup is arranged horizontally while Model B’s is arranged vertically.

In Model A, we see a small display on the right of the camera setup. This is similar to the first generation Galaxy Z Flip. Model B, on the other hand, has a bigger display beside the camera setup. In any case, both are still quite small screens.

You should note that this is only a patent and not anything concrete yet. Of course, many patents do not eventually see the light of day.

Not much is known about the upcoming Galaxy Z Flip yet. However, we expect it to be built around some of the best hardware the company has to offer.

The upcoming OnePlus Z device has been the subject of intense leaks and rumors. One of the main things being talked about has been the device’s processor.

Earlier leaks suggested that the device would use MediaTek’s Dimensity 1000 SoC. A tipster, Ishan Agarwal, revealed this at the time. However, he made it clear that he was not entirely sure about it. Now, the latest leak has revealed that the OnePlus Z will not use the Dimensity 1000 chipset.

According to the latest rumor from another tipster, Max J., the OnePlus Z will not even be using a MediaTek chip at all. Rather, the device will use the Qualcomm Snapdragon 765 5G SoC. The tipster shared an image that showed the earlier leaked design of the device with a single punch-hole and a chip marked “765” on it.

The Snapdragon 765 is probably the best mid-range chipset in the segment right now. According to Qualcomm, the chipset has the latest X52 Modem with 5G and 4K HDR streaming capabilities.

There were earlier rumors that the OnePlus Z would debut as the OnePlus 8 Lite. However, Max J. also revealed earlier that the device would likely launch in July 2020.

Phones / Google Pixel 4A Design Confirmed In New Leak Of CAD Renders by beejayvince(m): 11:58am On May 03, 2020
Google is set to present the Pixel 4A device in a matter of weeks or days. The device will probably be available to end customers around the end of May. There have already been many leaks and rumors. Now, the phone has appeared in new CAD renders, confirming its design.

The Google Pixel 4A will reportedly sport a 5.83-inch OLED display with a punch-hole at the top left corner. We also have information that it will use the Snapdragon 730 chip. Coupled with this will be 6GB of RAM and 64/128GB of internal storage. The device will reportedly be powered by a 3,080mAh battery and will support 15W charging.

Google was expected to launch the Pixel 4A at the Google I/O 2020. However, this was canceled as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, information from a German website suggests that the phone might be available for sale starting from May 22.

The Google Pixel 4A will come with a price tag of $400. This is more expensive than Apple’s new iPhone SE, a device that Apple CEO claims is faster than the fastest Android smartphone. It is also more expensive than the Vivo iQOO Neo3 5G which reportedly launched as the cheapest Snapdragon 865 phone.

The Google Pixel 4A will be available in two color options.

Phones / iPhone SE is faster than the fastest Android Smartphones, says Tim Cook by beejayvince(m): 10:34am On May 02, 2020
Apple recently announced its new-gen iPhone SE and the phone has been a hot topic among phone enthusiasts. One of the hottest points of discussion is the iPhone SE 2020’s use of the A13 Bionic chipset. The phone’s AnTuTu scores have revealed that it actually uses an underclocked A13 Bionic chip.

Apple CEO Tim Cook has now made some interesting comments about the iPhone SE 2020. He made the bold statements during a meeting with investors. Asked about the iPhone SE 2020, Tim Cook talked about how the new phone will be preferred more in low-income countries. Of course, the iPhone SE 2020 has a price tag that won’t break the bank, starting at just $399. According to Cook, this price tag will make many consumers sway towards iOS.

However, one of the boldest statements that Cook made was about the performance of the iPhone SE 2020. According to the Apple CEO, the new iPhone is faster than even the best and fastest Android phone on the market. This shows how much he actually trusts the iPhone SE 2020.

Meanwhile, when asked if the competitive price of the new iPhone shows a change in the company’s overall general pricing policy, Cook gave an evasive answer, claiming that Apple continues its efforts to always sell the best products at an affordable price. He said that that is Apple’s overall pricing policy and is not iPhone SE-specific.

Phones / Qualcomm’s New Quick Charge 3+ Can Charge Devices From Zero To 50% In 15 Minutes by beejayvince(m): 8:53am On Apr 28, 2020
Many new smartphones these days are focusing on things such as minimal bezels and multiple cameras. However, one thing that remains important is battery size. This is why many of these phones now also ship with big-sized batteries. This is, however, not enough. The bigger the battery, the longer it takes to charge, right?

Well, that is why fast-charging capability is now incorporated in many phones. Asides from the big battery, users also want proper fast-charging solutions. Companies such as Xiaomi, Oppo, and Vivo have ventured into this. We have seen 18W fast charging and now we are even going above 65W fast charging.

Unfortunately, these super-fast charging technologies are largely limited to premium smartphones. What we get in many mid-range devices is usually 18W or even less. Now, this is about to change as Qualcomm has unveiled its new Quick Charge 3+ standard. According to the company, this will bring “advanced charging at a lower price point”.

Qualcomm unveiled its Quick Charge 4 and 4+ standards back in 2017. So it was largely expected that we’d be getting the Quick Charge 5 or 5+ next. However, with the company going back to Quick Charge 3+, it wants to make fast-charging solutions available to affordable smartphones too. The feature will be available to Snapdragon 765G platforms.

Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 3+ will make its first appearance in the Mi 10 Lite Zoom or Mi 10 Youth. The phone is said to also come with Quick Charge 4+, making it the first smartphone in the world to feature both charging solutions.

Quick Charge 3+ Specifications
> Fast Charging and Improved Efficiency: Quick Charge 3+ allows users to charge from 0% to 50% in 15 minutes. It is 35% more efficient and 9°C cooler than the previous generation.
> Support for USB Type-A and Type-C cables and accessories.
> Backward compatibility with previous-generation Quick-Charge devices.
> Integrated cable power capability or identification.

Phones / Facebook Still Has Plans To Bring Ads To Whatsapp by beejayvince(m): 8:01pm On Apr 27, 2020
WhatsApp is arguable the biggest instant messaging platform in the world right now. With billions of users on Android and iOS, WhatsApp remains as relevant as ever. In fact, it is the primary texting platform for many people today.

One of the factors behind the success of WhatsApp is its ad-free policy. Remember when WhatsApp had a semi-premium monetization model? You had to pay $1 a year to use it. Facebook acquired the app in a $16 billion deal, and the $1 requirement is gone.

Over the past few months, there have been reports about WhatsApp implementing ads on the platform. Back in January, there was a report from the Wall Street Journal that suggested that Facebook did not plan to serve ads through WhatsApp. However, new information suggests that Facebook still has plans to implement ads on WhatsApp.

Facebook also owns Instagram. Both Facebook and Instagram apps support ads. WhatsApp remains the only Facebook service not to feature ads yet.

Facebook is reportedly working on unifying its messaging platforms. We expect that this will happen before the implementation of ads on WhatsApp. Facebook will likely leverage on WhatsApp status updates to serve paid content.

Phones / Coronavirus: Apple Delays Mass Production Of Iphone 12 Lineup by beejayvince(m): 7:25pm On Apr 27, 2020
We were hoping to get the iPhone 12 series in September. However, Apple has delayed mass production of the next-gen flagship iPhone lineup by about a month. This information was gotten from the Wall Street Journal, citing sources familiar with Apple’s production plans.

This delay is a result of the weakening of global consumer demand due to the coronavirus pandemic. In fact, Apple may even be slashing the iPhone 12 lineup production by up to 20%.

Apple plans to release four new iPhone models later this year. These models will support 5G networks. The company is still planning to go ahead with the launch, even with the effects of the coronavirus pandemic. We will just not get the devices in September as expected.

Meanwhile, Apple launched the iPhone SE 2020 earlier this month. The phone has the same design as the iPhone 8 but sports the A13 Bionic chipset. However, AnTuTu results show that the phone uses an underclocked A13 Bionic chipset.

Motorola has just launched the Motorola Edge and Motorola Edge+ devices. The phones are named after what Motorola calls “Endless Edge”, the company’s interpretation of the waterfall screen. There were earlier leaks of the Motorola Edge’s curved display. Now, the phone is confirmed.

Motorola Edge Specifications and Features

The Motorola Edge sports a 6.7-inch 90Hz curved punch-hole display. Unlike the Edge+, the Motorola Edge does not support HDR10+. The phone uses the Snapdragon 765G chipset. It is configured only for sub-6GHz networks even though it supports both flavors of 5G.

The Motorola Edge comes with 4GB of RAM in the North American version. The global version has a RAM capacity of 6GB. You get 128GB of storage on the device. This can be expanded via a microSD card.

The Motorola edge comes with a triple-camera setup. It uses a 64MP main shooter, coupled with an ultra-wide-angle camera and a telephoto lens. It also includes a ToF module. On the front sits a 25MP selfie camera. The device is powered by a 4,500mAh battery with 18W wired charging speed. It does not support wireless charging. The phone retains the 3.5mm audio jack.

In the software department, the Motorola Edge runs Android 10. However, Motorola promises to update it to Android 11, at least.

Motorola Edge Price and Availability
The Motorola Edge has a price tag of €599. It will come to Europe, Latin America, and the Asia Pacific in May. It is expected to get to the United States later on. The phone is available in Solar Black and Midnight Magenta color options.

Motorola Edge+ Specifications and Features

The Motorola Edge+ boasts a 6.7-inch 1080p AMOLED panel that supports HDR10+. Like the Motorola Edge, the Edge+ supports a 90Hz refresh rate. The device has a punch hole in the top-left corner, housing its selfie camera. It uses an in-display fingerprint reader.

This is Motorola’s first proper 5G phone with the US version of the Edge+ supporting mmWave 5G. The global version of the device will, however, get sub-6GHz 5G.

The Motorola Edge+ also sports a triple-camera setup on the rear. The primary camera is a 108MP shooter. It does 4-in-1 pixel binning to produce 27MP photos, unlike the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra‘s 108MP camera. The other two cameras are a 16MP ultra-wide-angle shooter and an 8MP telephoto camera. The phone can record 6K videos.

Phones / Iphone SE 2020 Antutu Scores Reveal An Underclocked A13 Bionic Chip by beejayvince(m): 3:53pm On Apr 23, 2020
Apple recently launched the iPhone SE 2020 as the second generation of the original iPhone SE. In fact, the iPhone 8 lineup has been discontinued for the iPhone SE 2020. What excited many people was the use of the A13 Bionic chipset in the device. This means that the phone was expected to perform as good as the iPhone 11 Pro Max.

Early reviews of the iPhone SE 2020 praised its performance. However, the phone has now appeared on AnTuTu and the score is underwhelming. In fact, its score of 492166 is well below the scores of the 2019 iPhones. The iPhone 11 Pro Max, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 have scores of 537154, 521010, and 517400 respectively.

When the iPhone SE 2020 results are looked at closely, it is easy to see that the CPU and GPU yield are closer to the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max. Meanwhile, these older devices use the A12 Bionic chip.

The closest that the 256GB iPhone SE gets to the iPhone 11 lineup is in the memory speed. With a score of 77968 in this department, it is way ahead of the iPhone XS lineup.

The iPhone SE 2020 was touted to get the iPhone 11 Pro chipset and the iPhone XR camera in an iPhone 8 body. However, with the AnTuTu scores, it is easy to see that the A13 Bionic chipset in the iPhone SE 2020 was clearly underclocked. This may be in an attempt to maintain a decent battery life.

Even with the iPhone SE 2020’s score, it definitely still beats most phones with a price tag of $399 out of the water. It is just not as good as many expected.

See the score breakdown here: https://www.smartphonecamp.com/iphone-se-2020-antutu-scores-reveal-an-underclocked-a13-bionic-chip/
