Phones / Google Maps Now Looks Better With New Update by beejayvince(m): 3:49pm On Aug 20, 2020
Google Maps users get ready because Google just updated the service to a whole new level! If you’ve been using the app for some time now, you’ve probably experienced some issue. Some of these issues revolve around the colors of the maps not reflecting the color of the real world.

Although this issue doesn’t come into play when users use the satellite view option, the problem many users face is the misinformation provided by the colors.

An example of the issue stated above is the use of ‘green’ areas, which have been marked as parks sometimes not actually matching the environment. Google released an update of Google Maps on the 19th of this month, to help the app reflect environmental properties better.

The new update will display natural features closer to how they appear on satellite imagery, i.e. parks will be green, snowy mountaintops will be white, sandy deserts will be beigeish.

In the image below, you can see how Iceland’s landscape reflects its real world appearance adequately. Viewers can also see the greenery and beaches of Croatia’s coast and nearby islands.

Google attributed the success of the new coloring to its new color-mapping algorithm for its satellite imagery. The feature appears to be highly advanced, and effective, as the imagery can even distinguish between dense vegetation – say, a forest – patchier sections. The feature applies to all 220 countries and their territories, which are supported by Google Maps.

The company promises to roll out more features, and even better imagery as improvements continue. The update will come in handy for people seeking directions through unfamiliar cities.

Phones / The Galaxy S20 Will Be Samsung’s First Smartphone To Get Android 11 (one UI 3.0) by beejayvince(m): 3:39pm On Aug 19, 2020
Samsung confirmed its seminal three-year smartphone update policy at this month’s Galaxy Unpacked 2020. The company showed off new products including the Samsung Galaxy Note 20, Galaxy Tab S7, Galaxy Watch 3, Galaxy Buds Live, as well as the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 2. Aside all the sparkling gizmos, the other enticing mentions in the event was their commitment to provide consumers with updates to its Galaxy line-up for three generations.

Few details were provided during the period, with lots of people asking what the three generations meant exactly. Most people assumed it referred to Android OS upgrades, while others speculated it may simply be One UI or security updates.

After some weeks of keeping consumers in suspense, Samsung clarified its commitment. The company will offer three generations of Android upgrades for most of its flagship phones and midrange line-up under the Galaxy brand. Some of the devices which support this feature include all Samsung Galaxy S20 and Note 20 devices, all Galaxy Foldable phones, as well as future products in the series.

Rumors suggest that the forthcoming Galaxy Tab S7 and last year’s Tab S6 line-up, as well as the future Tab S products, are also on the list. The company also stated that most of its other Galaxy A-series phones including the A71, A51, A90, and other selected upcoming A-series devices will be in place for the upgrade.

The news has been welcomed with open arms by Samsung smartphone owners, implying that nearly every product in its current portfolio will continually receive OS upgrades through Android 13. Samsung plans on unveiling Android 11 upgrade with One UI 3.0 to the Samsung Galaxy S20 series in 2020. Rumors suggest a possibility of the upgrade varying by the type of carrier, i.e. purchasing an unlocked version of the phone might provide you with the update earlier.

Phones / New Motorola RAZR 5G – Disappointing Battery Capacity Leaked! by beejayvince(m): 11:03am On Aug 19, 2020
Motorolla recently teased the launch if its RAZR successor, confirming that the foldable device will be unveiled at an event on September 9. The upcoming RAZR 5G has recently been spotted on the TÜV Rheinland website by the staff of MySmartPrice, ahead of its unveiling scheduled for next month.

With regards to the TÜV listing of the New Motorola RAZR 5G, the foldable smartphone will have two batteries rated 1,180 mAh and 1,453mAh respectively. This implies that the RAZR 5G will have a combined rated capacity of 2,633mAh. This means that its typical cell capacity could be rated at just 2,633mAh.

Although, the listing seems to confirm the New Motorola RAZR 5G will possess a bigger battery capacity than the initial first-gen RAZR, it will still not be able to rival Galaxy Z Flip 5G in terms of battery life. One other thing the TUV Rheinland listing mentioned was the possibility of the phone supporting wireless fast charging.

The RAZR 5G is expected to have a design similar to that of the first-gen RAZR, but with thinner bezels and smaller chin at the bottom. The device is rumoured to have a 7nm Snapdragon 765 chipset, which is a recent upgrade compared to the Snapdragon 730 chipset powering this device’s predecessor. The New Motorolla RAZR 5G is also expected to have a 48MP rear camera, 20MP selfie camera, 8GB RAM, as well as 256GB ample storage.

The device has enjoyed a streak of rumors, and hopefully some are confirmed, while others are not. The main focus of the company should be to impress their fan base, and beat their competitors.

MediaTek has just unveiled its third entry in the 800-series chipsets. The new chipset, the Dimensity 800U, joins the Dimensity 800 and Dimensity 820 mid-range chipsets.

The Dimensity 800U chipset comes bearing slight differences from the Dimensity 800. One major highlight of the new chip is that it is quite more affordable than the Dimensity 800.

Talking of features, the Dimensity 800U chipset uses an integrated 5G modem. It also offers dual 5G SIM support (SA and NSA modes). The chip is built on the same TSMC 7nm process but it features higher CPU speeds than the Dimensity 800.

Phones / Alleged Sony Xperia 5 II Renders Surface Online; No LED Flash? by beejayvince(m): 10:34pm On Aug 17, 2020
Sony’s Xperia 10 II is not a bad device. However, it still does not replace a proper Xperia 5 II flagship. Sony has, however, not made mention of any such device. Regardless, some cases have appeared on Alibaba, showing us a possible design of the phone.

If the images are anything to go by, then the Sony Xperia 5 II is smaller than the Xperia 1 II. It also features the popular 21:9 aspect ratio. The phone sports a 3.5mm headphone jack at the top and a fingerprint scanner on the side.

Going around the back of the device, we notice something interesting. The phone features a triple-camera setup; no problem here. However, it appears not to have an LED flash.

That little white dot is a ToF sensor (if the camera layout of the Xperia 1 II is anything to go by). The actual flash (and RGB ambient light sensor) is supposed to be above.

You may take these renderings with a pinch of salt. However, with multiple sellers putting up listings for the cases, it appears that an announcement from Sony may be just around the corner.

The LG Q92 is a 5G-enabled mid-range smartphone that will likely give other mid-range phones a run for their money. The phone is built around a 6.7-inch FHD+ punch-hole display. The punch-hole cutout sits in the middle of the top of the display. It houses the device’s 32MP selfie camera.

Phones / Google Pixel 5 Flagship Might Not Have A Flagship Processor by beejayvince(m): 10:47am On Aug 12, 2020
Google launched a smartphone brand known as Pixel some years ago. The tech giant has been working on its Pixel 5 flagship phone for a while now.

Although, most of the smartphone’s features are not clear, they are suggested to be released this autumn.

However, recent details emerging are seriously confusing as regards the product’s specs. This statement is due to the rumored possibility of the smartphone not coming with a flagship processor, regardless of its flagship nature.

AI Benchmark, a processor benchmarking platform, listed the Google Pixel 5 smartphone some time ago.

The listing revealed that the Pixel 5 will not have a flagship processor, which is used in flagship phones as expected. According to information on the site, Google Pixel 5 will be powered by the Snapdragon 765G processor when it is released.

Tech analysts and reviewers expected the Google Pixel 5 to be powered by a Snapdragon 800 series processor. However, the available listings of the Pixel 5 are confusing, since the processor to be reportedly used is currently available for mid-segment devices. The reason for such a choice is unknown, and the tech giant hasn’t released any comment on such.

Snapdragon 765G processor was announced at the end of last year, with supports for both 5G and high performance gaming. The Pixel 5 will have 5G support, but that doesn’t explain the reason for using mid-segment processors in a flagship phone. The device is rumored to come with 8GB of RAM.

Although, the full features of the phone are left unknown, Google will be announcing the phone in an upcoming event. Hopefully, the phone will be able to impress users.

Business / How To Make Money Using Your Smartphone by beejayvince(m): 3:03pm On Aug 05, 2020
Making money keeps getting easier day by day. We keep seeing new avenues to make money every day. This is largely due to the digital technology transforming the world right now. Gone are those days when you had to see your “customers” face-to-face. Today, you can make money from the comfort of your home using your smartphone.

The idea of making money using your smartphone is quite tricky; don’t get it wrong. Owning a smartphone does not automatically translate to making money. There are things that you will have to do to actually make money using your smartphone. There are skills that you need and actions that you must take if you intend to make any money. It is not different from other avenues when it comes to making money using your smartphone.

This post highlights things that you can do on your smartphone to actually make money. You do not necessarily need a computer to make money selling digital skills and services. Today’s phones offer enough for you to capitalise on.

Without further ado, here goes:

1. Social Media Influencing
It goes without saying that this is one very lucrative business in Nigeria today. The good thing about social media influencing is that you do not necessarily need to be a celebrity to do this. As long as you have enough followers, you can monetise your social media channels. There are many influencers on Twitter and Instagram that you have probably never heard about. However, this does not mean that they are not making cool money.

All you need for social media influencing are basically your smartphone and social media accounts. You then need to churn out content that people will like to read. The content may include how-tos, jokes, health posts, career counselling, comedy skits, business tips, etc. Just get something you are comfortable creating content about and build your followership.

Social media influencing is one of those businesses that you can start without quitting your job. With enough followers engaging with your posts, brands can approach you and have you advertise their products and services. You get paid for these. That’s it. A very simple way to make money using your smartphone.

2. WhatsApp TV
Believe it or not, WhatsApp TV is actually a thing. Granted, it is not exactly a television station. However, it is used in a similar way. A WhatsApp TV is basically just a person’s normal WhatsApp status updates. You get enough people to view each status update that you post and you have a “WhatsApp TV” in your hands.

In a way, WhatsApp TV is also a form of influencing. Get enough status viewers (followers) and monetise. There are many WhatsApp TVs in Nigeria today that do not even post original content. Simply going to Twitter and taking screenshots of interesting tweets and conversations, they post these screenshots on their status updates. The idea is to watermark your posts so that when people share them, other people who see the posts can easily add you up and view your status too. With enough people viewing your status, you can easily sell your status slots to people who need to advertise.

3. Blogging
A smartphone may not be the best tool for blogging. However, it works too. Blogging is one of the most lucrative ways of making money around the world today. A lot people think that you must have a computer to blog. The truth of the matter is that you can actually blog using your smartphone. It may be more difficult to handle, but it does not reduce your earning potential.

If you are good at writing stuff that interest people, you do not need to wait until you own a computer. You can start a blog right on your smartphone and monetise it. You can start blogging using free hosting services such as . However, if you plan to take your blog seriously and monetise it, you should consider self-hosting your blog.

4. Online Courses
Information marketing is one of the most lucrative businesses in this digital era. There are people who are willing to pay for what is in your head. See that “small” skill that you have? People would gladly pay to have you teach them. That is the power of information. You probably think you don’t know enough, but you actually know more than a lot of people.

One of the best ways to market information is through online courses. Thanks to social media, you do not need to build a “Course” platform before you reach your target audience. Today, you can simply organise a WhatsApp Class or a Telegram Training and you are good to go. We know that there are many people organising various classes on WhatsApp today. This is why you need to make sure that you are actually offering value if you intend to make any money from the comfort of your smartphone using this method.

5. Graphic Design and Photo Editing
You are probably laughing at the idea of doing graphic design on a smartphone. That’s good. It means that this is still a good time to go into it. There are so many low-quality Photo apps on mobile phone app stores today. However, in the midst of the garbage, you will find some exceptional apps for good-quality graphic design.

People are willing to pay graphic designers for great designs, not necessarily for the tool used. This is why you really need to tap into the idea of graphic design using your smartphone. Some of the apps that may come in useful for graphic design on Android phones include Desyner and Canva. For photo editing, you may check out Adobe Photoshop Express, Adobe Lightroom, and Snapseed. With a little practice, you can find your way around these apps and start making money using your smartphone.

Business / How To Use Instagram To Boost Sales In Your Fashion Design Business by beejayvince(m): 3:15pm On Jul 29, 2020
There is no doubt that Instagram is currently one of the biggest social media platforms in the world. In fact, it is arguably the biggest when it comes to sharing media (especially photos) with the world. With over 1 billion active users worldwide, you cannot go wrong with Instagram, right? Wrong! Especially when you are using it for business purposes. This post talks about how you can properly use Instagram to boost sales in your fashion design business.

Of course, fashion designers want their products out there. They want people to see what they have designed. As a fashion designer, you, most likely, do not intend to keep your designs to yourself. You want people to see them so that they can patronise you. So, where do you run to when you want to show your designs to the world? Instagram is definitely a top choice. And truth be told, it is working well for many people. However, the question is, is it working well for you?

Come with us as we take you on a ride on how to leverage the full potential of Instagram to boost sales in your fashion design business.

Is it necessary to have an Instagram Page for my Fashion Design business?
First things first. Before talking about tapping into the potential of Instagram to boost sales, there is the question of necessity. You may be asking yourself if it is even necessary for you to have an Instagram page for your fashion design business.

The truth is that, in this age, it is important to have a social media presence for your business. Instagram happens to be one of those that work best for fashion design businesses. So, while it is not necessary, it is quite important. If you are really interested in boosting sales, then you should consider having an Instagram page. Just visit instagram.com or download the app from the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store. Set up a Business account and start posting.

How to boost Engagement and Conversion on your Instagram Page
It is not enough to just set up an Instagram page for your business. What is the point of a page that has no engagement and conversions? Engagement simply means users taking actions on your content. These actions include likes, comments, and profile views. Conversion, on the other hand, means turning your followers into customers.

You need active users following your page and engaging with the content. That way, potential customers can easily see your designs and products and patronise you. But boosting engagement on Instagram is not easy. Or is it?

You also need users to convert to customers. That is the whole point, isn’t it? Conversion is key when it comes to leveraging the power of Instagram to boost your business. You need to convert your followers to customers; convert the engagement to sales.

There are some tips (hacks, if you will) that ensure that you get engagement and conversion on your Instagram page. Engagements are particularly important for fashion design pages. This is because they show that people actually like your designs and would probably be willing to pay for them. Then comes conversion. If they would be willing to pay, turn them to your customers. So, you need to optimise your Instagram page for engagement and conversion.

Without further ado, here are some ways to boost engagement and conversion on your Instagram page:

5 Ways to boost Engagement and Conversion on your Instagram Page
1. Brand your page properly
2. Post consistently
3. Post useful content
4. Use hashtags properly
5. Always engage your followers

The explanations for each of the points above can be found HERE.

How to use Instagram to boost Sales in your Fashion Design Business
“So, how does all of these boost sales in my fashion design business?”, you may be wondering. Well, it’s not hard. These tips and hacks work for virtually any business whatsoever. All you have to do is tailor your posts towards your business and target it towards your desired customers.

Enough of depending on customers locating your shop in one corner somewhere. With social media, you can now put your virtual shop out there for customers to locate easily. For fashion design business, Instagram is a very important tool for this. Put up useful fashion design tips and hacks for your followers. Then, post some pictures of your designs and products for them to buy. This method works if you do it properly. It may take some effort to do it, but it will definitely pay off in the end.

Phones / Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G Will Only Come With A 25W Charger In The Box by beejayvince(m): 12:44pm On Jul 26, 2020
The launch of the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 is just around the corner. As expected, there have been more leaks of the device as the days go by. One of the earlier leaks suggested that the Note 20 lineup would support Samsung’s fast charging solution over the USB Power Delivery standard going up to 45W. However, even with the 45W fast charging support, the phones will still ship with 25W chargers in the box.

According to leakster @rquandt, both the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 and the Note 20 Ultra will ship with 25W chargers in the box. This does not, however, affect their support for the fast charging solution.

It is of note that reviews of last year’s Galaxy Note 10 and Note 10+ showed that there was not much difference between 25W charging and 45W charging. We can only wait to see if it will be different with the Galaxy Note 20 lineup.

Career / 3 Signs That It Is Time To Quit Your Job And Focus On Your Business Full-time by beejayvince(m): 12:17pm On Jul 21, 2020
A lot of business owners who run businesses on the side are confused about when to switch to business full-time. You cannot blame them. The business world may be a world of uncertainty, especially at the early stages. Quitting your job to face a business full-time means leaving a world of “certain” payment for that world of uncertainty. So, when is it best to quit your day job and face a business full-time?

Making the full transition from a day job to a business is one of the hardest decisions a business owner may have to make. It involves a lot of planning and preparation. You cannot just wake up one morning and decide to quit your job for a business. It does not work that way; forget what that motivational speaker has told you.

This post highlights signs that mean that it is actually the right time to quit your job and face your business full-time. There is no “One size fits all” for when to quit your job; no one should make that decision for you. However, there are some signs that show that it may be the right time for that. So, without further ado, here goes.

1. Your job does not allow you enough free time to face your business
If you are really interested in growing your business, then you need to dedicate enough time to it. If your day job does not allow you enough free time for your business, then it may be time to quit that job and face your business full-time.

Of course, this is a matter of priorities. If your business does not rank higher than your day job on your priorities list, then maybe it would be a bad idea to actually quit your job to face the business. However, if your business ranks higher, it may be a good investment to quit your job.

2. Your business has started making you enough money
Many people make the mistake of quitting their day jobs before their businesses get solid footing. Eventually, they may not have enough money to run the business anymore. Imagine running out of funds when you need them the most.

What this means is that you may quit your job to face your business when the business starts making you enough money. If the business is not bringing in enough money yet, then maybe you should remain in your job. You can keep running your business with funds from your salary until your business grows enough.

3. You get more fulfilment from your business than you do from your job
If you get more fulfilment from your business than from your day job, then it may be time to quit the job and face the business full-time. At the end of the day, everyone wants fulfilment, right? This boils down to doing what you believes will make you fulfilled.

On the flip side, if your business is not bringing you fulfilment, then maybe you need to rethink it. Sometimes, you may have to quit that business and focus on your job properly.

Phones / Huawei P50 Pro Render Appears Online; It Sports A Stylus Pen by beejayvince(m): 3:21pm On Jul 10, 2020
Huawei is currently working on a number of smartphones. We expect the Huawei Mate 40 to series to launch sometime in September or October. However, even while we wait, the manufacturing giant is already working on the Huawei P50 series. This series is expected to launch in March 2021.

Huawei officials have revealed that it takes 18 months of research and development for the company’s flagships to hit the market. With this in mind, we can say that the Huawei P50 series is already well into its development stage.

As expected, there have been leaks of the Huawei P50 series. One of the most recent leaks reveals the design of the Huawei P50 Pro. Even though the renders are unofficial at the moment, they may eventually turn out to be true. On the flip side, it could be really different from what the actual device will look like. Either way, the design in the leak is quite interesting to see.

We have to say that this recent design leak is quite different from a lot of previous renders that have surfaced online. The phone has a concept design that is similar to that of the Huawei P40 Pro. However, it sports narrower bezels around the display. On top-left corner of the display sits a dual punch-hole camera.

Taking a look at the rear of the, the Huawei P50 Pro render shows a design that does away with the popular rectangular camera design. In place of that design is a relatively rare horizontal design with four lenses arranged in a straight line.

One of the most interesting features that we observed in the render is the presence of a Stylus pen. This is a new concept that we are seeing on a render of the device and it is probably the main highlight of the phone.

Only a few weeks ago, Wang Yonggang, manager of Huawei’s P series products said that the P50 series will come with more surprises for Huawei fans. The Stylus pen would really be a welcome surprise.

Business / Re: Please Help! What Business Can I Start With 200k by beejayvince(m): 12:47pm On Jul 06, 2020
Itzajiboy:
Hi Nairalanders,
Please I need your collective advice (reasonable though).
What business or investment can one really start with 200,000 naira that will grow over time.

Hi.

There is a question on Business Room about businesses that one can start with even N100,000. These are some of the answers there:

Have you considered starting an online business? I know you’re probably thinking about an offline business like fashion designing, farming, buying and selling, etc. However, you’ll likely need a huge amount of money to start some of those.

If you go for something like blogging, you may not need to spend as much as that. You should just have it at the back of your mind that you may not immediately make huge profits. I can definitely put you through how to go about it.

Blogging offers you many opportunities to make money. You may use ad services like Google AdSense or even sell your own ad spaces. But that may not be a good idea if you don’t have enough traffic yet.

Setting up a basic blog for a start, you may not even need to spend up to N50,000 for a standard website. Eventually you’ll have to renew it but if you’re consistent, you’ll make way more money that your investment.

If you are an “internet” person with specific skills, you may also consider:
> writing
> transcription
> copywriting

You don’t even need to spend N100,000 to start these. But they all need you to be consistent and to always give value. You’ll get new clients from referrals.

Thanks to the pandemic plaguing the world right now and the new reality we all have to face, the best business to start up right now must be something that would require your coming in less physical contact and having to hold less physical interactions with clients, while still putting your capital to good use.
A lucrative business you should consider with this amount is Dropshipping, which, simply put is the setting up of an online ‘shop’ where people can make orders and pay for products which would be delivered to their locations courtesy of any trusted logistics company.
The good news, like I said, is that, this business requires little of physical contacts as you can setup everything online but you must ensure you do your due diligence in both the companies you order your products from and the logistics company you entrust your customer’s products with.
You can set up a shop where people can order for phone accessories, bags, shirts, footwears, house utensils, computer accessories, electronic gadgets and many more. But with your capital, it is advisable you stock up your virtual shop with fast moving and cheap items like bags, accessories, wears and shoes.
What you’ll need is a lot of publicity and adverts which you can either do yourself on social media or pay for ads on sites to reach a wider number of potential clients.

Another business you can start with this capital is buying and selling of Domain names.

You can also simply ask your own question there directly and get answers from the large community of business owners and prospective business owners. Simply visit https://businessroom.ng and relate with fellow business-inclined Nigerians.

Career / 7 Businesses That You Can Start In Nigeria Without Quitting Your Day Job by beejayvince(m): 4:28pm On Jul 05, 2020
The dream of many people is to own businesses of their own. However, not many are willing to quit their day jobs to face a business full-time. Are you one of those people? Then, keep reading. This post outlines seven businesses that you can start in Nigeria without quitting your day job.

A lot of people earn salaries that are just not enough for them to live the lives they want. This is why we see Nigerians looking for what to do to complement their salaries. Some people eventually quit their day jobs to face their businesses fully.

Truth be told, in many cases, you simply cannot combine running a business with your day job. After being at work from morning till evening, where is the time to face some other business? Right?

What if we told you that there are businesses you can start in Nigeria without having to quit your day job? These are businesses that will not require you to face them full-time without doing something else. You will still have to give your best if you want to succeed in these businesses, but they may not necessarily require you to quit your day job.

Without further ado, we present to you seven businesses that you can start in Nigeria without having to quit your day job.

1. Website Development
Web development is one business that you can easily start without quitting your day job. This is because you can choose when to work. Your timing is mostly on your own terms. If you get a website development gig, you can simply work on it when you close from work. You can also dedicate some weekends to working on it. Even with your day job, you will still have enough time to face this business. So, you do not necessarily have to quit your job to start website development as a business.

2. Social Media Influencing
This is one interesting business that you can start without quitting your day job. It is interesting because you probably already spend a lot of time on social media every day without monetising it. If you have loyal and engaging followership, you can easily build a business around your social media handles.

Instagram and Twitter are some social media platforms where this can easily be achieved. All you have to do is build loyal followership. With enough engaging followers, brands may approach you for marketing campaigns. Do you have to quit your day job to run these campaigns? Of course not!

3. Freelance Writing and Editing
If you have a good command of a language, you can probably write, proofread, and edit articles in that language. There are various platforms where you can get writing and editing gigs. For example, some people in need of writers post the gig ads on Jiji, one of the biggest online marketplaces in Nigeria. All you have to do is search properly. You can also approach websites and blogs directly through their email addresses. Just be sure that they write on topics you are good at. Get gigs without having to quit your day job.

You can check out this post on how to monetise your writing skills.

4. Affiliate Marketing
A good way to make money from affiliate marketing is by having a website with enough targeted traffic. You can easily sign up for online affiliate programmes and put affiliate links in your posts to earn commissions.

However, what many people do not realise is that you do not necessarily need to own a website to start an affiliate marketing business. Simple word-of-mouth referrals can earn you affiliate commissions. You can also approach other business owners and ask to help sell their products for commissions. All you will have to do is advertise these products to your contacts. When they buy from the seller, you get a commission. Many people are cashing out in Nigeria using this technique. The good part? You don’t have to quit your day job to start this business.

Business / 5 Practical Ways To Make Money Blogging In Nigeria by beejayvince(m): 12:24am On Jun 28, 2020
Many Nigerians today are rushing to start blogging after reading about the successes of certain Nigerian bloggers. You hear that Linda Ikeji makes millions of Naira from her blog per month and jump into blogging too. It’s funny how many new bloggers don’t even know how to monetise a blog. This post outlines 5 practical ways to make money blogging in Nigeria.

Forget the motivational speakers who just give success stories with no practicality. In this post, you will be learning practical ways to actually monetise your blog in Nigeria. You have probably come across posts telling you how to make money from blogging with methods that don’t even apply in Nigeria. This is not one of those posts. You will be learning about monetisation tips that actually work in Nigeria.

Let us start with the basics. You already have a blog, right? If you don’t, you need to build one first. If you already have a blog, does it generate enough traffic? This is where many new bloggers miss it. You cannot just launch a blog today and immediately rush to monetise it. It takes time.

Requirements for making Money from your Blog
Making money from your blog is not automatic after creating the blog. Blogging is not a “Get rich quick” scheme. It may take months or even years before you make any substantial money from your blog. There are some things that need to be in place before you are able to monetise your blog properly. Here is a list of some of those things.

(i) A Profitable Niche
Not every blog niche is very profitable. Your blog niche needs to be valuable if you intend to make any money from it. You need to be sure the niche is profitable if you intend to make good money from your blog.

(ii) Amazing Content
You need to dish out amazing content if you want users to visit your site. There is a popular saying that goes, “Content is King”. If you put up amazing and useful content on your blog, you will get people to stick around. You need to do this if you have plans of monetising your blog.

(iii) A Loyal Community
Your valuable niche and amazing content will not mean anything without a loyal fan base. You also need to have people who follow your blog if you want to make good money from it.

Now that we’ve gotten those out of the way, continue reading to find out practical ways to make money from blogging in Nigeria.

1. Ad Services like Google AdSense
One of the most popular ways to monetise a blog is through advertisement. There are various ad services that bloggers can choose from. However, Google AdSense is currently the most popular and most widely-used of all. It’s not difficult to see why. Google makes the service easy for publishers to use.

In order to apply for a Google AdSense account, you simply need to visit adsense.google.com and follow the instructions. If you do not already have a Google account, you will have to create one. Once your application is approved, you will get an ad code to paste on your website. You simply have to copy the ad code given to you and paste it on your site accordingly.

After pasting the ad code on your website, you may have to wait a few minutes or hours before the ad starts displaying. There are various positions where you can make ads appear on your site. Some of the most common are header and sidebar ads.

The more people see and click on ads on your website, the more money you make. This is where traffic comes in. If your website gets a lot of high-quality traffic, you will earn high. Little wonder many popular websites use AdSense ads; they already have high traffic. The good part? You can get paid in Nigeria.

Other ad services that you can use on your blog include Taboola, Infolinks, and MGID.

2. Affiliate Marketing
Simply put, affiliate marketing means selling someone else’s products and services and getting commissions. Already, many people do this offline, but the question is “How do you implement it on your blog?”

In order to implement affiliate marketing on your blog, you need to have an interested seller. Depending on your agreement with them, you may just insert links to their products on your blog. If people click through from your blog and make purchases on the seller’s website, you get paid a commission.

One of the most popular online affiliate marketing programmes in Nigeria is Jumia’s. After applying, you get customised links to products on the company’s website. You even get customised banners that you can post on your website. When readers of your blog click on the links or banners and end up buying from Jumia through the link, you get paid.

To apply for Jumia’s affiliate marketing programme, simply sign up at affiliates.jumia.com. You will get instructions on how to proceed.

3. Selling Advertisement Spaces
You do not necessarily need an ad service like AdSense to run advertisements on your blog. You can simply sell ad spaces on the website to interested buyers. This is one of the most lucrative ways to monetise your blog in Nigeria. The good thing about selling your own ad spaces is that you are in charge of your own prices. You determine how much you want to sell the ad spaces and even decide the payment modalities.

To start selling ad spaces on your blog, you may design banners with texts advertising the available ad spaces and posting the banners on your site. When a reader sees these banners, they know that the ad spaces are available. It is advisable to link the banners to a page on your site where interested persons can contact you for business.

Business / Top 5 Skills That Can Make You Up To ₦50,000 Every Month by beejayvince(m): 7:23pm On Jun 24, 2020
Do you have a 9-5 job that does not pay you enough? Maybe you have enough extra time and you’d like to make some more money. This is the situation in which many Nigerians find themselves today. In fact, it is quite important to have multiple sources of income. The good news is that there are skills that can make you extra income to supplement your salary every month.

This post outlines some skills that can make you up to ₦50,000 extra every month. You may be wondering, “Even my salary is not up to that!” Well, come along for the ride and you will be shocked at how much extra money you can actually make. Of course, the ₦50,000 is not a standard. Some people will probably make more than that with these skills while others will make less.

It is important to note that some of these skills to make extra income require access to the internet. The truth is that there is a lot of money to be made on the internet these days. If you have the necessary skills and know how to channel them properly, you will definitely make money online.

Without further ado, here is a list of the top 5 skills that can make you up to an extra ₦50,000 every month.

1. Blogging
You probably already expected this to be on the list. Blogging simply has to do with creating content on the internet for people to read or view. That is how simple it is on the surface but it requires some work. When talking about blogging in Nigeria, one name that easily comes to mind is Linda Ikeji’s Blog. This blog is owned by the popular blogger and former model, Linda Ikeji. It is one of the most popular blogs in Nigeria and it reportedly makes millions of Naira every month.

This is not the time to jump and think you have hit the jackpot though. Your blog will probably not get to that level unless you put in some extra work. However, with all the basics in place, you can easily make up to ₦50,000 from your blog every month.

To set up a blog, you simply need internet access and a mobile phone or computer. Yes, you can start a blog on your smartphone. It is just advisable to use a computer because that makes it easier. Once you have these in place, you need to buy a domain name and hosting. You can then set up your website and start blogging.

So, how can you make Money from Blogging?
You will probably not make money from your blog if it does not generate enough traffic. When you post relevant content that people read and share, it pulls traffic to your blog. That way, you can sign up for Google AdSense and make money from advertisements. Other companies and individuals can also show interest in putting up content on your site and paying you for it. There are many other ways to make money from your blog but you first have to focus on putting up relevant content and generating enough relevant traffic.

2. Content Writing
You may be good at writing content and not necessarily own a blog. There are people in Nigeria who make so much money writing for others. A lot of people and companies need writers for their websites and advertisements. If you have this skill, you can easily make up to ₦50,000 from it every month.

Many websites are in need of multiple writers to keep them afloat. If you are good at content writing, why not shoot your shot? Visit websites, get their emails, and write them, asking to be official writers for them. Do you know a lot about Technology? Apply on Technology-focused websites? Is Finance your strong point? Apply on Finance-focused websites. You may get a negative response but why not give it a try and probably get a positive response.

Writing for a single website can make you as much as ₦50,000 in a single month. Now, imagine writing for multiple websites. It all depends on how much time you have on your hands. If you can get multiple gigs, the better for you. The more you write, the more you can earn.

3. Social Media Management
Imagine making money simply by being on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or some other social media channel. This is what social media management basically entails. You already spend so much time on Facebook and Twitter, so why not make money from it.

Companies are in need of people to manage their social media accounts. The CEO of the company probably has too much on their hands already. So, someone has to be behind the social media accounts.

Social media management is very important especially now that offline companies are rushing to have an online presence. Many offline businesses have seen that a lot of their potential customers are online these days. So, they are promoting themselves using these social media channels. Get in touch with these companies and present your skills to them. The good thing about social media management is that you can do it for multiple employers too. You just have to be careful to avoid any mix-up.

4. Graphic Design
Making money from graphic design is not a new concept. So many people have been doing it for years. However, this skill is still in high demand. Graphic designers who know their onions are really cashing out big time. Many organisations need graphic designers to work for the long-term. Even new businesses need the services of graphic designers for logos, flyers, business cards, and other designs.

As a graphic designer, it is easy to get referrals after doing a great job. Your designs will likely be seen by other potential clients, so the better you are at it, the better for you.

Depending on the complexity of your design gigs, you may even make ₦50,000 for just one gig. For others, you may make as little as ₦5,000, maybe less. What makes graphic design great is that you can charge based on your skill level or based on the complexity of what the client wants. It also makes sense that you can do multiple designs in a month.

You may get so many graphic design gigs in a month that you become overwhelmed. This is probably more easily noticed when you really run a 9-5 job. It is why some people do graphics design full-time on a freelance basis. You can focus on this skill and make more money than you are even making from your day job. However, you have to be really good at it if you want to make enough money to matter.

5. Skill Coaching/ Training
Now, you may have some of the other skills outlined in this post, great. However, there are many other people who would like to have these skills too. You may be surprised at how many people would actually pay huge amounts of money to learn the skills you have.

When it comes to skill coaching or training, the internet has made it easy. There are skills that you can teach without having to meet the recipients in person. You can also create recordings of your training sessions as courses so that you don’t have to record every time.

Create a course on copywriting or how to make massive sales on Instagram and see how people will jump on it. There are people waiting for the content; you simply have to put it out there. However, if you want to keep a clean reputation and make good money from this, you must make sure that your training offers immense value.

Imagine how many people search for ways to make money online every day. Many of these people would gladly pay for courses on this. Why don’t you provide this for them? Of course, you have to be good at teaching. That is the major skill required for this. You also need to know your onions. That way, you will be sure to get interested people and you will make money.

Conclusion
Making money is not a one-sided endeavour. Multiple streams of income surely make life easier. There are skills that ensure that you have these multiple sources of income. This post gives a list of some skills that can help you to make up to ₦50,000 in addition to your day job salary every month. Why not hop on and start making that extra money? After all, you already have the skill, right? Not to worry if you don’t, you can learn.

Business / List: Tough Questions You Must Ask Yourself Before Starting Any Business by beejayvince(m): 5:01pm On Jun 23, 2020
Starting a business is not always easy, especially in a country like Nigeria. If you decide to start a business, you must indeed mean business. Not everyone is cut out for the business lifestyle. You should know if it is for you before you even make any attempt to start. There are some tough business questions to ask yourself to know if you are fit to start.

You may have come up with a wonderful business idea, but if some things are not put in place, the business will crumble before your very eyes. So before you start that business, you need to ask yourself these tough questions.

This post outlines 10 important questions that you need to ask yourself before starting that business. These questions may be tough on you but you need to ask and answer them if you want your business to succeed. So here goes.

1. Am I really cut out to be an Entrepreneur?
This is probably the toughest question you need to ask yourself before starting that business. Over time, there have been arguments and debates about whether entrepreneurs are born or bred. Regardless of how that debate goes, there are some traits that successful entrepreneurs possess. Natural independence, resourcefulness, and self-accountability are some of these features.

You are probably asking yourself right now if you have the traits. The truth is that if you are someone who constantly needs to be pushed to act, then maybe this entrepreneurship journey is not for you yet. If you need someone to constantly guide you, then maybe you should reconsider and get your mind off the business path for now.

2. Why exactly am I starting a Business?
After asking and answering the question of if you are cut out to be an entrepreneur, you need to ask yourself why exactly you are starting a business. Many aspiring business owners do not know why they are going into business.

If you are going into business simply because you want to become instantly rich, then you may need to have a rethink. In fact, a lot of legitimate businesses do not become profitable immediately.

Are you starting the business because you are passionate about it? On the surface, this is good. However, you should know that passion alone does not sustain a business. Many people make this mistake. “Do what you love and make money from it”. Well, in the real world, passion or what you love alone is not what will make your business succeed.

So, why are you starting the business? To make money or to make a difference? Have it at the back of your mind, though, that you can make a difference and still make money. They are not mutually exclusive.

3. What Problem will my Product or Service solve?
What is the point of doing something you love if it will not solve any problem? Your potential customers are not actually interested in your product itself. They are interested in how your product can solve their problems.

If your business is not solving any real problem, then you just have a hobby. At the end of the day, the success of your business is in the hands of your customers. If your product or service does not solve their problems, then they will not patronise you.

Try to think about some of the most successful businesses in Nigeria and in the world at large. They are successful because they are solving their customers’ problems. The value of your business depends on how much you are able to meet the needs of your customers.

4. Do I have enough resources to get started?
Many people make the mistake of starting a business without having enough resources to run it. By resources, we do not only mean money. Before you launch your business, ask yourself if you have enough money, knowledge, skills, and manpower to run it. This is one very tough business question to ask yourself especially when you are so pumped to start the business.

Reports have it that most startups fail within their first two years of operation. In many cases, this is because the business owners did not lay a solid foundation. They did put enough of the necessary resources in place.

Even though money is not the only resource that you need, it is indeed a very important resource. You need enough of it that your business can survive on before it begins to yield profits. So, prior to venturing into business, be sure to have enough resources. You also need to manage these resources well if you want your business to stay afloat.

5. Is this a Good Time to start this Business?
Different businesses have different favourable starting periods. The fact that Mr A starts a successful business today does not necessarily mean Mr B can also do the same. Before you launch that business, ask yourself this tough question: “Is this a good time to start this business?”

Of course, there may never be a perfect time to start a business. However, launching too early or too late may make your business fail. Timing is a good factor that determines the success or failure of your business.

Is the timing right based on your available resources? Is the timing right for the market needs? You may have what it takes to launch but is the market in need of your product? Is the timing right for my personal life? These and more are tough questions you need to ask and answer before rushing into any business.

Note that Seplat Petroleum Development Company Plc is listed on both the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) and the London Stock Exchange (LSE).

The notification made it clear that this Intra-Group transfer would not lead to any change to the current business strategy. It also stated that the transfer would not affect the way the Seplat Group commercially operates.

With the transfer of OMLs 4, 38, and 41 from Seplat Plc to Seplat West, seven wholly-owned subsidiaries were created:
