Phones / Nokia 9.3 Pureview May Be The First Smartphone With Under-display Selfie Camera by beejayvince(m): 12:15pm On Apr 22, 2020
Many smartphone companies are currently in a race for a truly bezel-less smartphone. So far, we have seen big notches, waterdrop notches, punch-holes, and pop-ups. All of these are because there has to be a place for the selfie camera somewhere. So far, this seems to be the main limitation to the realization of a truly bezel-less smartphone.

OEMs are now working on delivering a proper solution – an under-display selfie camera. This is a camera that will simply blend with the phone’s display. After the delivery of the under-display fingerprint sensor technology, the under-display selfie camera has been widely talked about. Companies such as Samsung, Huawei, Xiaomi, and Oppo are already working on it. However, according to a report, HMD Global may be the first to deliver the under-display selfie camera with the Nokia 9.3 PureView.

There was a report earlier this year that claimed that the Nokia 9.3 PureView would be the first phone to boast the under-display camera technology. A more recent report has shown that the phone will be launched in Q3 2020. Now, a new report has appeared from Nokia Power User stating again that the Nokia 9.3 PureView would launch with an under-display front-facing camera.

Nokia Power User cited a source very close to the Finnish firm. According to them, the Nokia 9.3 Pureview will come with PureDisplay V3 technology. The source claimes that HMD Global has been working on the under-display selfie camera along with a pop-up mechanism. The company has reportedly found the technology stable enough to include in a new flagship.

Meanwhile, we also already know that the Nokia 9.3 PureView will boast a 120Hz refresh rate and a 108MP primary camera. The primary camera will be joined by a 64MP sensor and three other sensors. The device will also sport a 48MP selfie camera. We cannot wait to see the quality of this if Nokia indeed employs the under-display camera technology.

Phones / Huawei Nova 7 SE 5G Design Revealed In Leaked Poster; To Use The Kirin 820 Soc by beejayvince(m): 11:29pm On Apr 21, 2020
Huawei is set to launch the Nova 7 series – Nova 7 SE, Nova 7, and Nova 7 Pro – on April 23. Of all the smartphones in the series, the Huawei Nova 7 SE will be the least expensive.

We have now seen a leaked poster revealing the design and specs of the Huawei Nova 7 SE 5G. The poster reveals the front and back of the device, confirming some of its features.

From the poster, we see that the Huawei Nova 7 SE will sport a punch-hole in its display. Design-wise, it looks pretty much like the other two phones in the series. However, unlike the Pro version, the Huawei Nova 7 SE will sport a single camera punch-hole.

Huawei Nova 7 SE Specifications
The Huawei Nova 7 SE will sport a 6.5-inch FHD+ LCD panel with a resolution of 2340×1080 pixels. The punch-hole on the display will house the device’s 16MP front camera.

On the back of the Huawei Nova 7 SE sits a quad-camera setup with a 64MP main camera. This could be the Samsung Bright GW1, the same sensor seen on the Redmi Note 8 Pro and on the Realme 6 series.

The poster also confirms that the Huawei Nova 7 SE will use the just-launched Kirin 820 5G chipset. This chipset, based on a 7nm process, boasts of up to 27% improved performance over the older Kirin 810.

The Huawei Nova 7 SE will be powered by a 4,000mAh battery. It will support 40W fast charging. Running Android 10 out of the box, the device is expected to come in two storage variants – 128GB and 256GB.

Phones / Samsung Galaxy Fold 2 Possible Design Revealed In New Renders; Includes An S-pen by beejayvince(m): 4:29pm On Apr 21, 2020
The Samsung Galaxy Fold 2 has now appeared in new renders, revealing its possible design. Before now, there have been several leaks and rumors about the device. Most of these were based on whether it would come with an S-Pen or not. The new renders support the presence of an S-Pen.

Ross Young of Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC) recently gave some insights about the Samsung Galaxy Fold 2. Based on the details, Ben Gaskin posted the new renders on Twitter. So now, we have a better idea of what the device might look like.

From the renders, we see a Samsung Galaxy Fold 2 with punch-hole displays. When folded, the punch-hole is in the middle of the secondary screen. When unfolded, the punch-hole is at the top-right corner of the primary screen.

Also, based on the renders, on the back of the Samsung Galaxy Fold 2 sits a quad-camera setup, arranged in a rectangular block. One of the most interesting features seen in the renders is, however, the S-Pen. Many older rumors suggest that the device will not have an S-Pen. If the older rumors are anything to go by, we also expect the Samsung Galaxy Fold 2 to have a 120Hz screen.

The Samsung Galaxy Fold 2 is expected to launch alongside the Galaxy Note 20 series in August.

Phones / Whatsapp Accidently Confirms New Feature That Many Users Really Want by beejayvince(m): 7:08am On Apr 21, 2020
WhatsApp is working on a new feature that allows you to easily verify forwarded messages. This is coming at a crucial time when so many unverified information about the COVID-19 pandemic is being forwarded across the platform. The Facebook-owned brand accidentally revealed this feature via its own FAQ page.

According to WABetaInfo, a “How to do an internet search on forwarded WhatsApp messages” link appeared on WhatsApp’s FAQ page. Even though the link is no longer directly accessible there, we have the information already.

So how does this work? When you receive a forwarded message on WhatsApp, it will be marked with a double arrow icon. Now, there will also be a search icon available. You can use this search icon to prompt a web search of the message forwarded to you. This will then lead you to pages that will verify/debunk the message.

WhatsApp is still testing this feature. However, we expect it to be made available sooner than later as this is a crucial time. This “internet search on forwarded WhatsApp messages” feature is also expected to come to Android first. The iOS version will come soon after.

Meanwhile, WhatsApp is also reportedly working on some other features. One of them is the Advanced Search feature which allows you to search for any type of media, documents, or links in chats. There is also the Protect Backup feature. This allows you to set a password for your chats backup. If you lose your password, you will not be able to recover your chat history from the backup as the password will not be saved on WhatsApp of Facebook servers. WhatsApp is also working on a tweak to the auto-download feature. Frequently forwarded images, videos, documents, and voice messages will not be automatically downloaded.

However, all of these are still reportedly in the works. For now, we just have to wait and see how these new features pan out in future updates.

Phones / LG Velvet Design And Its Snapdragon 765 Processor Revealed In Official Video by beejayvince(m): 9:19pm On Apr 20, 2020
LG has released a new video showing the full design of the LG Velvet smartphone. Not only did the video reveal the design of the device. It also confirms that the LG Velvet will use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 765 processor.

From the video, we see the LG Velvet from multiple angles. Easily noticeable are the thin bezels as well as the U-shaped notch cutout on the front of the phone. However, the highlight of the device is the rear camera setup. The LG Velvet sports a triple-camera setup, arranged in a “raindrop” setup.

Even though the design itself does not tell us much about the device, it seems that the LG Velvet will retain the 3.5mm headphone jack. This would mean that LG is still catering for those who want superior audio on their smartphones.

If the video is anything to go by, then the LG Velvet will be available in Aurora Green, Velvet Sunset, Aurora Grey, and Aurora White color variants.

According to LG, the finish material of the device is its “Velvet Touch” that delivers a “Stunning Sunset” shimmering effect under particular lighting angles. Of course, LG is focusing on design with the LG Velvet.

The information about the processor used by the LG Velvet comes at the end of the video. The phone will run the Snapdragon 765 processor, one not as powerful as the Snapdragon 865 that is currently seen in many flagship devices.

Asides from this official video, there is not much information out there about the LG Velvet. LG is apparently releasing information about the phone bit by bit. So far, we know how it looks and the processor it runs.

According to earlier rumors, the LG Velvet will have a screen size between 6.7 inches and 6.9 inches. It will reportedly sport a 48MP main camera and get juice from a 4,000mAh battery. Rumor also has it that the LG Velvet will support LG’s dual-screen attachment.

The LG Velvet will reportedly launch on May 15. We will likely get more information about it before then. Meanwhile, LG also recently announced the LG Folder 2, a flip phone with dual-display and an SOS key.

Phones / Nubia Play 5G To Launch With Snapdragon 765G And In-display Fingerprint Scanner by beejayvince(m): 3:53pm On Apr 19, 2020
The Nubia Red Magic 5G was recently released as one of the company’s most ambitious smartphones of the year. Now, the company is preparing to announce a new phone in the mid-range segment. This phone is called the Nubia Play 5G.

The Nubia Play 5G is also a gaming smartphone, but it is not as powerful as the flagship offering. The company has revealed some details about the upcoming device, and we are excited.

Even though the Nubia Play 5G is a mid-range phone, it comes with some features that are quite interesting. The phone will come with a 144Hz refresh rate. This is also seen in the Nubia Red Magic 5G and in Vivo’s upcoming iQOO Neo3 5G. It will also feature a 240Hz touch sampling rate. The Nubia Play 5G will use an under-display fingerprint sensor.

The design of the Nubia Play 5G shows a simple traditional approach to the display. Rather than sporting a notch or punch-hole, the display is just made of symmetrical top and bottom bezels. These bezels are quite slim, however, unlike what we saw in the iPhone SE 2020. The Nubia Play 5G will feature a 48MP camera from Sony.

Under the hood, the Nubia Play 5G will boast Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 765G chipset with an integrated 5G modem. The phone will be powered by a 5,100mAh battery with Quick Charge 4.0 fast charging.

Phones / Meizu 17 With Snapdragon 865 And A 4,500mah Battery To Launch On April 22 by beejayvince(m): 3:09pm On Apr 19, 2020
Meizu is already preparing for the launch of the Meizu 17, its flagship device for 2020. Before now, we have seen leaks and rumors from various sources. However, the company has now revealed some official details of the Meizu 17.

Meizu took to Weibo to reveal specs of the Meizu 17 alongside an image of the front of the device. From the image, we see a device with a full-screen body. It has a punch-hole on the top-right of the display to house the selfie camera. The overall design follows a typical Meizu form factor with the phone’s display curving around the edges. The phone features thin bezels.

The Meizu 17 uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 865 chipset, the same chip found in the upcoming iQOO Neo3. It will support mSmart technology. This will let the device switch smartly between connections to optimize speed and battery life. The phone will also support Wi-Fi 6.

The Meizu 17 will be powered by a 4,500mAh battery. This will reportedly get one through a whole day even with 5G enabled. The device will be announced on April 22, 2020.

Phones / Xiaomi Mi Note 10 Lite With 5,260mah Battery To Launch Soon by beejayvince(m): 6:39pm On Apr 18, 2020
After a long hiatus, Xiaomi unveiled the Mi Note 10 last November. The phone launched with upper mid-range specifications and a premium price tag. The price tag was probably because it was the company’s first smartphone to use the 108MP camera.

Xiaomi is now preparing to release a toned down version of the device, the Xiaomi Mi Note 10 Lite. This is coming months after the unveiling of the original Mi Note 10.

An alleged Mi Note 10 Lite with model number M2002F4LG has been certified by Thailand’s NBTC. This means that the launch of the device is probably near.

Unfortunately, the NBTC listing does not give many details about the Mi Note 10 Lite. However, since it also passed through FCC last month, we already have some details.

Xiaomi Mi Note 10 Lite alleged specs
The Xiaomi Mi Note 10 Lite sports a 6.47-inch Full HD+ AMOLED panel. It may come with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. However, there may also be a variant with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage.

In the camera department, the Mi Note 10 Lite features a penta-camera setup. However, instead of the Mi Note 10’s 108MP camera, we now have a 64MP main shooter. This is paired with two 8MP cameras, a 5MP module, and a 2MP module.

The Xiaomi Mi Note 10 Lite will use the Snapdragon 730G SoC, just like the regular Mi Note 10. The Note 10 Lite will be powered by a 5,260mAh battery with support for 30W fast-charging. It will ship with Android 10 and MIUI 11 unlike the original Mi Note 10 that shipped with Android 9.

With the certifications coming up, we can say that the launch of the Xiaomi Mi Note 10 Lite is near. However, we do not yet have details of its availability.

Phones / Iphone 12 Pro Max Design Revealed In Leaked Video And CAD Renders by beejayvince(m): 2:44pm On Apr 18, 2020
Apple is supposed to launch the iPhone 12 series this September. This means that the company is expected to already be done with the design of the phones. Or at least, close to that. We have now seen alleged CAD renders of the iPhone 12 Pro Max.

From the CAD renders, we have now seen the design of the iPhone 12 Pro Max. However, this is not the finished design. The design shown in the render is about 70% finished. More work has to be done on the notch and rear camera setup.

The design is in line with the rumors about the device so far. The iPhone 12 Pro Max is expected to have an iPad Pro-like look with flat edges. Somehow, the design also looks like that of the iPhone 5s.

The iPhone 12 Pro Max will have a 6.7-inch display with thin bezels, thinner than the current lineup. Its notch will be a smaller than that of the current lineup but a bit wider than that of the OnePlus 6, for reference.

The iPhone 12 Pro Max will sport a square-shaped quad-camera setup on the rear. This will include a LiDAR sensor. However, the camera arrangement is not yet final.

This is one of the biggest leaks of the iPhone 12 lineup so far. However, given that it is not final yet, we may still some changes before the device is launched.

Phones / Iphone 8 And Iphone 8 Plus Discontinued As New Iphone SE Takes Their Place by beejayvince(m): 1:07pm On Apr 16, 2020
Apple has just launched the second-generation iPhone SE (iPhone SE 2020). Just like the iPhone 8 lineup, the new iPhone SE is compact. It also packs high-end features of the iPhone 11 lineup including the A13 Bionic chip. What’s more, the iPhone SE 2020 has a starting price of just $399.

The launch of the new iPhone SE has directly affected the iPhone 8 lineup. With the release of the iPhone SE 2020, Apple discontinued the iPhone 8 lineup on April 15, 2020. After announcing the iPhone SE 2020, the company has now stopped selling the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus.

The decision to discontinue the iPhone 8 lineup makes sense considering what the iPhone SE 2020 has to offer. In fact, the new iPhone SE is basically an upgraded iPhone 8 with a 4.7-inch display and Touch ID.

However, this means that we will lose the plus-sized version since the iPhone SE 2020 does not have a plus size. This does not mean that we will never get it though. Rumors suggest that we may actually get a Plus version of the new iPhone SE too in the future. For now, just the regular iPhone SE 2020 is replacing the iPhone 8 lineup.

Phones / Iphone SE 2020 Launched With A 4.7-inch Screen: Here's How Much It Costs by beejayvince(m): 11:39am On Apr 16, 2020
Apple has finally unveiled its second-generation iPhone SE. It is not called the iPhone 9 as many expected. Just like the original iPhone SE that launched in March 2016, the iPhone SE 2020 also sports a 4.7-inch screen. The phone has a physical Home button with Touch ID fingerprint reader.

Even though the new iPhone SE has a physical design like that of the iPhone 8, it packs many of the iPhone 11’s high-end features. For example, it uses the high-end A13 Bionic chip.

We recently reported a new iPhone Exclusive which revealed a twist to the new iPhone SE camera. The device sports a single 12MP camera on the rear. According to Apple, this camera can create depth-effect photos using Portrait Mode.

The first iPhone SE was a success because of its compactness and good performance while remaining affordable. This new iPhone SE builds on that and improves on it in every way. It is also very affordable. It has an IP67 rating for water resistance and is also dust-resistance.

The new iPhone SE has 3GB of RAM and up to 256GB of internal storage. There are also 64GB and 128GB storage options. However, it is of note that the device lacks 5G capability and Apple’s Face Unlock system.

New iPhone SE Price and Availability
So how much is the new iPhone SE? Well, the new iPhone SE has a starting price of $399 (about 154,000 Naira) /£419 /AU$749 /Rs42,500 for the 64GB storage variant. This means that it is the same price as the original iPhone SE in the United States but higher in the United Kingdom.

In the US, you can get the iPhone SE 2020 at $16.62/month through Apple’s financing plan. You can also do an iPhone 8 trade-in at just $9.54/month or $229. Of course, the higher variants cost more than the base 64GB variant.

The iPhone SE 2020 is available in three color variants – Black, White, and Red.

Pre-order for the device opens on Friday, April 17, and goes live at 5 AM (PDT) /8 AM (EDT) /1 PM (BST). The release of the device is set for Friday, April 24.

Phones / Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite Unveiled With 10.4-inch Display And S-pen Support by beejayvince(m): 4:54pm On Apr 15, 2020
Samsung has just launched the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite. The device is a toned down version of the Galaxy Tab S6 which the company launched last July.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite has a beautiful uni-body metal design. It sports a 10.4-inch LCD panel with a resolution of 2000×1200 pixels. This is 0.1-inch smaller than the regular Galaxy Tab S6. The original Tab S6 sports a Super AMOLED panel with a resolution of 2560×1600.

Under the hood, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite uses an octa-core processor with a maximum clock frequency of 2.3GHz. Even though Samsung has not mentioned the chipset that the device uses, we believe that it may be the Exynos 9611.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite has 4GB of RAM and two storage options – 64GB and 128GB. It has a microSD card slot through which you can expand the storage by up to 1TB.

In the camera department, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 has an 8MP primary camera on the rear. Sitting on the front is a 5MP selfie camera.

Running Android 10 with One UI 2.0, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite supports Dark Mode and has Samsung Knox. The device comes with an S-Pen stylus. Samsung will also sell a Book Cover separately. This Book Cover has a slot for the S-Pen and clings magnetically to the slate.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite skips the in-display fingerprint scanner that we saw on the Galaxy Tab S6. The device is powered by a 7,040mAh battery and uses a USB-C port.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite Price and Availability
The Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite will be available in three color variants – Oxford Gray, Chiffon Pink, and Angora Blue. It is currently listed on Samsung Indonesia’s official site. However, there are no details of its price and availability.

Science/Technology / Samsung Achieves Record-breaking 5G Mmwave Speeds by beejayvince(m): 4:02pm On Apr 15, 2020
5G is currently one of the trending buzz words in the tech world and Samsung Networks seems to be at the top of its game. The company has now successfully pulled off a new record-breaking speed in its tests.

In the test, there were two client devices receiving 4.3Gbps of peak data speeds simultaneously for a total of 8.5Gbps from a single Samsung 5G mmWave Access Unit. It was only natural that this feat was achieved using high-frequency mmWave technology. This is where such speeds are attainable, albeit in controlled conditions.

mmWave has proven to be really impressive in terms of speed and response time. However, it is also very fickle in terms of connection stability and range. Something as thin as a sheet of paper is often enough to disrupt an mmWave connection. This has been a topic of criticism for mmWave for some time. However, there is also good news as summed up in the official press release:

"With multi-gigabit speeds, users can experience transformational 5G mobile services. Mobile operators will be able to deliver new and rich services such as 8K video streaming, AR remote learning and holistic VR teleconferencing as well as new use cases that are yet to be imagined."

At the moment, only a handful of countries already have 5G mmWave spectrums assigned. These include the U.S., Japan and South Korea. We do not yet have real-world installations but Samsung Networks has already achieved this record-breaking speed.

Now, the company has revealed that the Xperia 1 II will hit the shelves soon. This disclosure was made on its Twitter account for Spain.

Sony España responded to a user’s query and mentioned that the Xperia 1 II flagship would go on sale later this month.

Phones / Redmi Note 9 Series May Be Coming With The Mediatek Dimensity 800 Chip by beejayvince(m): 12:11pm On Apr 15, 2020
MediaTek has focused heavily on its new chipset, the Dimensity 1000L. This is the chip that Oppo used in the Reno3. MediaTek is doing same with the Dimensity 800. We will get to see the chip in a Redmi phone soon, most likely the Redmi Note 9 series.

Lu Weibang may have just announced a new Redmi device sporting the MediaTek Dimensity 800 processor. He “retweeted” a post from MediaTek on Weibo, talking about the Dimensity 800 chip.

According to Weibang, the Dimensity 800 processor has gotten to the level of the Snapdragon 820. It is important to know that the Snapdragon 820 is in the mid-range level. However, it is still dated, compared to the MediaTek Dimensity 800.

Now, for Weibang to retweet that post, there is likely something cooking in that direction. The device with the Dimensity 800 processor is likely in the works already. But what smartphone could it be? We believe that it is likely the Redmi Note 9 series. Redmi already used this type of SoC in the Redmi Note 8 Pro. So we may just see the Dimensity 800 in the Redmi Note 9 Pro too.

The MediaTek Dimensity 800 is built on a 7nm lithographic process. It comes with a modem 5G for fast connection. The chip has an octa-core CPU (4 Cortex-A76 cores and 4 Cortex-A55 cores, all set to 2.0GHz). It will reportedly support up to 90Hz refresh rate.

Phones / New Iphone Exclusive Reveals A Surprising Twist To The Apple Iphone SE 2 Camera by beejayvince(m): 11:22am On Apr 15, 2020
Apple is ready to launch its first iPhone of 2020, the iPhone SE 2. This will be an affordable phone with quite amazing specs. In fact, it may just be the perfect iPhone for millions of users worldwide. However, there is new information about the phone’s camera that is a bit of a setback.

Earlier rumors hinted at Apple using the iPhone 11 lineup’s main camera in the iPhone SE 2. Now, Front Page Tech’s Jon Prosser has revealed that the phone will not have that camera. Instead, the iPhone SE 2 will use the primary camera from the 2018 iPhone XR. It’s important to note that Prosser has had virtually flawless Apple intel all year.

What this means is that the iPhone SE 2 camera will not be as good as earlier rumors hinted. Of course, the iPhone 11 Pro has a better primary camera than the iPhone XR. Apple seemed to slip further behind Huawei and Pixel phones with its 2018 iPhones. The company improved on this with the iPhone 11 lineup.

Meanwhile, the iPhone SE 2 is expected to start at just $399. For this price, you will get the iPhone 11’s cutting edge A13 Bionic chipset. This chip currently offers the fastest smartphone performance in the world. It is expected to be topped by the A14 Bionic chip. Now, the iPhone SE 2 will also have the compact design of the iPhone 8. So it will be the most compact smartphone in the world with such a fast performance.

So do you think the camera ‘setback’ is enough reason to not get this device?

Phones / Vivo Iqoo Neo3 Is Coming On April 23; Clue From An 'animal Crossing' Island Tour by beejayvince(m): 3:23pm On Apr 14, 2020
The vivo iQOO Neo3 will allegedly be unveiled on April 23. This information came from an unexpected source. A popular Chinese digital blogger leaked this date on Nintendo’s new hit game for the Switch – Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Easily noticeable on the video the blogger posted is a board with "4.23" and "Coming" written on it.

The medium through which the person released this leak is quite interesting. However, considering how much time they spent creating and setting up the custom tiles and signs on the Animal Crossing island, maybe it is believable. See the video:

Taking a tour of the island, there is a part of the phone with a custom image arrangement clearly saying 5G. The iQOO 3 5G already supports 5G, so this is not much of a surprise. Vivo also already revealed that the two phones will share the Snapdragon 865 chipset.

We know that the vivo iQOO Neo3 will use a 1080p display panel. It will support up to 120Hz and even 144Hz refresh rate. However, there will be a setting to switch to 90Hz.

See the video here and let us know if you spot any other clues:

Phones / Nokia 9.3 Pureview And Nokia 7.3 May Launch In September by beejayvince(m): 3:36pm On Apr 13, 2020
Nokia is indeed bouncing back into the smartphone race fast. Being one of the oldest faces in the phone market, the brand is trying to stamp its name in the minds of users again.

HMD Global is not giving up on putting Nokia back in the good spot on the charts. The company is planning to release a new flagship model soon. This will be accompanied by a lower budget model for those with tighter budgets.

It is in this vein that some reports have it that Nokia will release the new models soon. The models, Nokia 9.3 PureView and Nokia 7.3 may be Nokia’s ticket back if they have amazing specs at affordable rates.

So when will Nokia 9.3 and Nokia 7.3 be released?
HMD Global has predicted the months of August and September for some of its models. This is in line with the typical second wave of high-end smartphones from various brands.

This means that we may get the Nokia 9.3 PureView at about that period. If this happens, the device will likely be a rival to the Samsung Galaxy Note 20. Of course, it may also rival the Huawei Mate 40 and Google Pixel 5. Not to forget Apple’s iPhone 12 too. That’s a lot of the competition for the Nokia 9.3, but with great specs, it may just survive.

Meanwhile, the coronavirus pandemic is still ravaging the world. So even though HMD Global may be considering August or September for the launch of the Nokia 9.3, that is not yet certain. But of course, we will likely get more details of the upcoming devices in the coming weeks.

Phones / Oneplus 8 Cases Leak In New HD Renders by beejayvince(m): 3:01pm On Apr 13, 2020
Ahead of the launch of the OnePlus 8 series on April 14, there have been waves of leaks. We have seen renders of the device and we have seen it out in the wild. In fact, the retail box of the series made its way online over the weekend.

Even with the launch of the series so close, we are still seeing leaks. We have earlier seen the official cases of the OnePlus 8. Now, we have seen newly leaked HD renders.

From the new renders, we see a new Sandstone Cyan color added to the collection along with a Smoky Purple and the standard Black. We have the Transparent Bumper case, the Nylon Bumper case, and the Karbon Bumper case.

For now, it is quite safe to say that these options will be available to the whole series.

Meanwhile, even with the waves of leaks, not much is known about the OnePlus 8 Lite. However, the regular OnePlus 8 model will reportedly cost €729 with the OnePlus 8 Pro going as high as €930.

Daum:
Very poor battery life for all LG fones

This is not entirely true.

I currently use the LG V30 and its battery life is great. I get about 6 hours SOT on medium to heavy usage. That is not a 'poor' battery life.
I agree that some of their devices actually have poor battery lives, but definitely not all. I used the LG G3 and LG G5 and they really had poor battery lives. Then, I used the LG V20. It had good battery life. I then got the LG G6 when my V20 was stolen. This one's battery was worse than the V20's but it was not 'very poor'.

Now, my V30, and battery life is great. I heard the G8, V40 and V50 also have great battery lives. And I have cause to believe the V series generally have better battery lives than the G series.

So, not all LG phones have poor battery lives.

Thank you for coming to my TED Talk. wink

Phones / LG Velvet Is The First LG Smartphone To Flaunt The New 'raindrop' Camera Design by beejayvince(m): 3:39pm On Apr 12, 2020
Last week, LG unveiled a fresh design language for its upcoming smartphones. LG described the design language as “an intersection of the natural world with modern trends in technology.” The design involves a new vertical camera arrangement that is inspired by raindrops.

However, the company did not exactly talk about any new smartphone in the works. This has left many people guessing which of the company’s phones will be the first to adopt it.

LG has now officially disclosed that the first smartphone to flaunt its new design strategy is the LG Velvet. LG made this announcement in its official press release.

According to the company, the LG Velvet will sport the “Raindrop” camera lens design as well as a “symmetrical, flowing form factor that is both pleasing to the eye and pleasing to touch.”

LG also talked about what the name “LG Velvet” was about. The Korean electronics giant has revealed that it will now use expressive names that capture the essence of its devices. So, LG is now dropping the alphanumeric naming scheme, the type we see in devices like the LG G9 and the LG V60.

With this new update, one may tend to believe the rumors that LG is indeed pulling the plugs on its ‘G’ series phones. This would be surprising, considering the success of the series. Reports have it that the company will announce the ‘G’ series replacement on May 15. However, it is probably just a naming change. It is only a matter of time before we find out.

Religion / 5 Popular Easter Traditions In Nigeria: How Nigerians Celebrate Easter by beejayvince(m): 2:53pm On Apr 12, 2020
It is Easter again, and what better time to talk about popular Easter Traditions!

Easter is one of the most important dates in the Christian calendar. It marks the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the grave. This is the climax of the whole week starting from Palm Sunday through Good Friday. It also marks the end of the Lent period, a 40-day fasting period among Christians.

However, people look forward to Easter for various reasons. While some people simply see it as a period of sober reflection and celebrating the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, some others simply look forward to the fun activities of the period.

Here are some of the most popular Easter traditions among Nigerians.

1. Special Easter Delicacy
Since Easter is a period of celebration among Christians, many families prepare special delicacies. Catholics usually celebrate Easter by eating a special delicacy called Frejon. They usually take this meal, prepared with coconut milk and bean soup, during the Holy Week. Nigerians usually consume frejon with fish stew, peppered snail, and garri Ijebu.

Asides from frejon, other Nigerians like to eat other special foods to mark Easter. Families prepare special rice with ‘accessories’, and take it with special drinks. Of course, it is a special occasion.

2. Easter Picnic
Since Easter is a period of public holiday, family members who have been away come home to spend time with their families. It is a good time for families to go out together. They may choose to go to the beach or even just sit at home and have a nice time together. Other places to visit include amusement parks, zoos, malls, and restaurants. Some Churches also organise this, and various families come together to have fun as one.

3. Movies
Some popular television stations dedicate Easter period to showing movies about the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. This is usually a good time for families to come together and see these movies. Some even pick some new lessons from them while some just watch for entertainment. Either way, Easter is a good time to see movies.

4. Concerts
Easter is a good period to organise concerts, especially since we are sure many people are free. Both Gospel and secular musicians organise concerts during Easter, and Nigerians troop in to enjoy themselves. Many musicians also see Easter as an opportunity to cash out.

5. Vacation
A vacation does not necessarily mean travelling out of the country. You may go on a vacation with your family here in Nigeria. Even though some families wait until Christmas to travel to their hometowns, some others take the trip during Easter. Families leave the hustle and bustle of the city to go enjoy some peace and quiet in their hometowns while celebrating Easter with their folks.

Which of these Easter traditions in Nigeria does your family observe? And which one are you able to observe this year, considering the coronavirus crisis?

Phones / Samsung Galaxy Note 20 And Fold 2 To Be Announced In August Despite COVID-19 by beejayvince(m): 8:57am On Apr 11, 2020
The coronavirus pandemic currently ravaging the world is frankly affecting the economy of countries worldwide. In the mobile phone industry, we have seen the effect in the postponement of phone launches. Back in February, the annual Mobile World Congress 2020 was cancelled. However, reports have it that Samsung is sticking to its plans on some phone announcements.

Samsung will reportedly announce the Galaxy Note 20 and Galaxy Fold 2 in August. The reports have it that everything is going as planned and the announcement of the phones is not affected.

Even though Samsung will still hold its UNPACKED event in August, it will not necessarily be a real on-site event. If the coronavirus pandemic does not loosen its grip on the world before then, we could just see an online event.

According to the sources, Samsung is preparing for a worst-case scenario in which the global pandemic will still be on strongly in the second half of the year. This would force the company to launch its next flagship products exclusively online.

If we consider the effect of the current wave of the coronavirus outbreak, it may affect Samsung’s supply chain. This means that the company could even postpone its announcement of the Galaxy Note 20 and Galaxy Fold 2 devices.

It is not clear if Samsung will indeed launch its next-gen foldable phone as the Galaxy Fold 2 or give it another name. Well, it is only a matter of time before we find out.

Phones / New Iphone 12 Renders Suggest A Device With A Notchless Display by beejayvince(m): 8:40am On Mar 27, 2020
Apple will launch the iPhone 12 series in about six months. However, over the past few weeks, there have been a lot of rumors about the upcoming flagships.

We have now seen new renders of the alleged iPhone 12 Pro, thanks to the folks at Svetapple. One of the main highlights of the renders is the absence of a notch. The notch made its debut with the iPhone X in 2017 and has been a kind of signature. It is apparently about to leave the scene on the iPhone 12 Pro.

The components that sit in the notch in the current iPhones will now sit in the top bezel. From the image, we see the phone’s 12MP selfie camera in the top bezel. Along with it are an Infrared Camera, a Flood Illuminator, a Proximity Sensor, an Ambient Light Sensor, a Speaker, a Microphone, and a Dot Projector.

It is also of note that the bottom and side bezels are relatively bigger than what we see on current iPhones. However, since this is still an early render, we cannot draw conclusions just yet.

In a separate image, we see that the device’s SIM slot is still on the right-hand side. Also, confirming previous rumors, the device is said to come with flat sides. Rumors have it that the iPhone 12 Pro will sport a 6.7-inch display and a new sensor-shifting camera stabilization. Other rumored features include 120Hz ProMotion display, 3D ToF sensors, mmWave 5G connectivity, and up to 6GB RAM.

It is still too early to take all rumors in with anything more than a pinch of salt. However, it is only a matter of time before the rumors are verified and Apple eventually launches the phones.

Phones / Vivo S6 5G Gets TENAA Certification; Full Specs Revealed by beejayvince(m): 8:18am On Mar 25, 2020
China’s TENAA has just certified two ‘unknown’ Vivo devices with model numbers V1962A and V1962VA. We believe that these devices may be versions of the Vivo S6 5G. The S6 5G will be unveiled on March 31.

From the listing, we see that the V1962A and the V1962BA have similar designs and specifications. However, the V1962BA has “G1” written on its back. This is quite new as we don’t see it that way on the Vivo S6 5G photos that Vivo shared.

Both devices sport 6.44-inch Full HD+ AMOLED displays with waterdrop notches. The notches on the devices house their 32MP selfie cameras. They also use in-display fingerprint sensors for security.

Vivo has also confirmed that the Vivo S6 5G will sport a quad-camera setup on the rear. The main camera will be a 48MP unit. In addition to this will be an 8MP module and two 2MP modules. The 8MP camera may likely be an ultrawide-angle camera with the 2MP cameras being a macro unit and a depth sensor.

The V1962A and V1962BA will run Android 10, most likely with Funtouch OS 10 on top. They will come in two memory variants – 6GB RAM + 128GB storage and 8GB RAM + 256GB storage.

The devices will come with 4,390mAh batteries.
