At least he had a very good reason to go to the mall; to save his blood brother. The real heroes are the poor policemen and soldiers who, having the least connection (social or financial) to the mostly affluent people in the mall, went in and risked their lives to save others.

If only the other ordinary citizens were allowed to own their own guns too, they would have fought back. Why do only the privileged have access/licence to own guns. I know a guy that is the son of a former SSS deputy director who owns a licensed handgun whilst having never been in the military, police or any other paramilitary force.

But if he is a security official, I would expect him to have been provided with an identification like a police vest or badge in his car.

If he is a security official,

I would expect him to put his gun in a set and ready position and move carefully to the cover of the toddler and her family and escort them to full safety. Not tell the toddler to take a dash like if she is the main character of "Rambo 7: the young ones" and risk getting shot.
