@Amanda0,
PR holders can access family tax benefits and child care benefits on arrival while the remaining centrelink assistance have a 104 week (2years) waiting period starting from the day of arrival.
Child care benefits is a discounted child care fee. The government pays percentage of your fee depending on your family income. Family with low income can get as much as 90% discount.
To be eligible for Child care benefits, your child/men's immunisation must be up to date. People with children should come with their children's immunization record and take it to the nearest hospital or clinic to you when you arrive. The doctor there will be able to put it on the system and also advise you if you need additional immunisation. It is free for children.
Undergraduate studies are not free but you will be charged at domestic student rate. Some courses are Commonwealth supported which means the government pays percentage of the tuition while you pay the balance.
HECS fee help which is the students' loan is only available to citizens and those on permanent humanitarian visa (refugees).
Masters by research and PhD are tuition free for PR holders.

Solace5: Please house, I scored 7.5, 7.5, 6.5, 6.5 in my ielts exam, is this score okay for migration to Australia? It is ok if you are not claiming points for English. If you need points from English, you need to rewrite it. The front of this thread explicitly explained band score you need for English language test. |

What to expect is the normal wear and tear of an old car. If the person knows about car, he should be able to identify any that will create big problem after purchase.
For peace of mind, he should get a car of about $1500. Do a good inspection and test drive before committing to buy. Some junkies who have very good cars sell them at ridiculous cheap price when they are desperate to buy drugs. |

Bnimz: Slightly confused here, 1 month to get PPR after AOR? I wasn't aware that Australia would require our physical passport at any point in time... Your physical passport is not required at any point in time except at the point of entry. However, if you want a label visa after the grant, you can hand in your passport. |

dunsinogundele: Hi Bellong,
For a family without a job yet,what is the support like in real figures?. I am asking so as to know the worst case scenario when I arrive with my family .
Thanks tyosho: No one can give you worst case scenario.Each family"s circumstance differs and what benefits you get is determined on a case by case basis.
Until your grant is in view though,I do not think you make plans based on it. I can't give you any figure.. even someone working in centrelink can't give you any figure until your circumstance is determined. The advice immigration gives is that you should come with at least three months funds to sustain yourself till you get a job. If you are on government benefits and your circumstances change, you are expected to update else you stand the chance of paying back all the excess money paid to you. |

Vinsmuft: Bellong sir, as a software programmer where would you advise me to come to? I have a friend who said Melbourne is great. I want to get a second opinion. How long do you think it would take for someone like me to get a job to support myself and my family of 4? Melbourne is the ICT hub of the country. Yes the person advised you right. If you check seek.com.au for adverts, you should be able to get within a month provided you can sell yourself well and articulate your skills to employers. There are hundreds of ICT jobs in Melbourne. |

Your question is too ambiguous to be given a definite response. Every state has her unique strengths and differences. Saying that, Don't consider coming to South Australia because of the job market is not too encouraging although things are better compared to last year. If you are able to spell out what you are looking for, you probably may get a better response. |

Wizcollifa: 26years but planing on reducing my age to 19years cos am younger than my age. Why would you reduce your age? What do you mean by you are younger than your age? Even if you reduce it to 15yeats and you present questionable documents, it will get you nowhere. Age is not a factor considered in approving visa. People in mid-thirties got visa for TAFE study. It is about how you sell yourself and how you convince them of your study intention. |
