Checkmate!!! the ruling class have finally backed everybody into a tight corner and this the end result. this is what happens when people are made to feel that their votes dont count. if my vote dont count and the judicial/police system is not in my favor, what other recourse do i have? now a group of people, namely MEND, who in a normal society would have depended on their votes to get their message accross are using another means to send their message. what makes it worse is that the coming generation are not being groomed properly with the right mentality to take over the future reigns of the country. |

shinystar: Preliminary investigations by SSS revealed that some suspects arrested over the blast sent text messages to Dokpesi. The terse, coded message, SSS sources disclosed, simply said, "the deed is done. What about our balance?"SSS officials said Dokpesi will be confronted with evidence against him tomorrow to which he is expected to react.
It was also gathered there were exchanged calls and SMS between the suspects and some high-placed Nigerians, which will be made available in the course of the interrogation.
Someone in the Babangida's camp, British intelligence services, revealed was sighted in South Africa last week where Henry Okah, the leader of MEND resides before his eventual arrest. To set him up I can as well get his number send the above text, call the SSS and sit back. It amazes me that all of a sudden our authorities investigative skills have quadrupled ten fold overnight. |

faithin9ja: @bidemi12 in my previous posts I have suggested we start at the local grassroots. Every local taxpayer deserves to know what his or her local government chairman is doing with their local tax money. Most if us on nairaland don't even know who our local government chairman is?
Market women, okada riders, petty traders, these guys pay all sort of levies to local government everyday, they have a right to gather themselves, march to the LG head office and put forward their demands. The demands should be for simple achievable things like fix pot holes on a local road, clear the rubbish from a market, set up clinic for okada riders that have accidents. Believe me the levies these LG's collect is heavily misused whilst we all have our eyes on Abuja.
Honestly dropping bombs in Abuja is not going to bring 24 hour light or fix Lagos - Benin expressway, somebody will die, maybe even a head of State and another thief will take over, 'an eye for an eye and the whole world goes blind. Are you serious? You are talking as if your vote counts in Nigeria. What is the weapon the American citizen has over govt? his vote. The govt knows if they do not do right by them they will definitely be voted out in the next elections. If the local taxpayer in Nigeria demands to know how his taxes are being used and he is rebuffed what will happen? Absolutely nothing. the police authorities are ineffective, votes don’t count. what other means do you realistically foresee will force govt to sit up and listen? When the british were oppressing the Americans before their independence the Americans did not carry placards or depend on votes because they had none, just like us now. Do you know how they became free? With brute force. A lot of lives were lost and even when they got their freedom they still had to fight again to get it right. It took a few men to take up the initiative for all this to happen. I am not saying mend is fighting for Nigeria but the ideology has been planted that maybe brute force is what we need. Think about it, if you were a known looter would you feel confident flaunting your wealth whey you know that you might be taken out by a bomb one day or a sniper. I doubt it. |

faithin9ja: @bidemi12 Freedom is worth dying for but the current crop of groups in Nigeria, none of them are freedom fighters, we are all just cheap 'rent-a-crowd' participants, and to make matters worse we don't even know who is renting us, currently it's MEND, Boko Haram, IBB camp, GEJ camp, Atiku camp, etc
Sorry most placard carrying Nigerians in any riot, carrying green leaves, call any of them aside and offer them money - they will stop the riot and follow you. it's only a question of how much , not any ideology, not any freedom fight, we as a people we are not conditioned for that, even the people in Jos accepted money to start their riots.
Forget violence, there are better ways to effect change in Nigeria So where do we start from? In order to attain freedom from this oppression, i mean. |

in fact, just as the ruf traded in blood diamonds, mend trades in bunkered oil

ziga: Mr man,
What is your problem. What is your fascination with me or Nigeria LOL. You need to grow up because i'n not here to score points.
@Other people.
Violence can't solve anything in our current situation, because there is no unity of purpose amongst Nigerians. We all can see the way political issues are turned into religious or tribal issues, and we all fall for it.
MEND is obviously not fighting for Nigeria, so why should true Nigerians support them
This division is our biggest problem, and if the youths don't face that problem and refuse to be fooled by the usual talk of "because he is from this state, or he is too young, etc, he can't be our leader", then violence will result in multiple factions that will have their own selfish agenda which will be used by the same political leaders against themselves.
And it is always amusing that most Nigerians really want the same thing at the end of the day, but they attach useless conditions to the solution e.g he has to be from ND, or from the north or Igbo/Yoruba etc.
These leaders know we dont have one voice, and they know just how to trigger the division between us.
If we don't solve this Nigerian arrogance/ "my own is the best" problem, we aint going nowhere. It is always funny because war advocates are always the ones who lose their face when action begins. Who cares if MEND is doing it for Nigeria or themselves? The point is they are doing something. Will you fight for them? It would be nice for all to come together in one voice to fight for the same cause but good luck with that happening. We as human beings are inherently selfish anyway. Left to you come 2020 with the status quo beign the same, we will still be celebrating another 10 years of failure. At what point do you take action? And o yes!! I am fascinated with you. I am always fascinated with retards on NL and Nigeria In general. I am still trying to decipher how people like you exist. It is a scientific project for me now and I must get to the bottom of it. slowpoke |

justwise: Has fighting brought peace in Iraq and Afghanistan? Let me get you right. are you saying Nigerians shouldn't fight because wars do not solve anything? you can use violence to jar people back to reality (like ziga, who is in a perpetual fantasy land), change the ideology of a state (russia, china, cuba) or wrestle your independence (USA). All we need is to identify what we are fighting for. personaly i think part of the reason we are the way we are is because our independence was handed over to us on a platter of gold. If you struggle and sweat for an objective you will value it more. historicaly, the end result of wars is not immediate but reveals itself overtime. Also, think of the Nigerian situation as that of a bully in school. until you stand up to that bully he/she will continue to ride you until forced to see otherwise. even if you stand up to him/her but do not win, that bully will think twice before approaching you in the future. that is why although i abhor the loss of life, i congratulate MEND on their bold venture. Those basterds in government must realize that no place will be safe for them. |

Until the African Americans decided to take their own destiny into their hands especially after the Rosa Park incidence that awakened every black American to their plight. . . Even where we had Marthin Luther God king, there was Malcom X who represented the combative aspect of the struggle. . . Today, the younger generation are ripping the benefits of such a bold step to freedom, it is even argued that Abraham Lincoln was forced into glory giving the circumstances that led to the abolition of slavery. . .all these did not come through wishful thinking and talking just intelligently- action and violence brought these victories-if Nigerians realy want a change, they will have to change the way we demand for our rights from these rogues. Unfortunately, not everyone we live to see this change, some innocent lives will be lost in the process that is a guanrateed fact, the best that can be done is to reduce it to a bearest minimum but it is inevitable. The way I see the action of the MEND is from a survivor viewpoint, a very strong message has been passed to the rogues, unfortunately, there is no casualty-free method for passing it across, in an ideal world may be but in reality, I am thinking but you were warned to stay away. Cruel may be but in comparison to what these rogues are making us do, it is fair game. Do you know why Nigeria will remain the way it is? Because Nigerians are cowards. And selfish, I might add. faithin9ja: @Cap28 if Nigeria did not have oil, today we would be a fractioned none-nation like Somalia & Afghanistan. We are together because the powers that be and (don't kid yourself the king makers in Nigeria cut across all ethnic groups), these powers need Nigeria to be one.
the Abuja bombing is a warning to IBB, etc not to mess with GEJ.
But we as Nigerians ( I mean 90% of individual Nigerians) will do as bad as Abacha, IBB, OBJ, Ibori, Odili if we ever get to power. I pointed out the behaviour of so-called Militants because I know the havoc they wrecked on my business in Warri - are these the people you want to see in power?
My friend you say you would rather chose MEND over our corrupt politicians, My friend there is NO choice they are one and the same. the govt knows MEND as MEND knows the govt.
Nigerians grow up, who are we fighting for? the corrupt police man, the corrupt immigration officer, the customs man, NEPA staff, lecherous university lecturers, stealing bankers (at every level) - which one of these people will do a better job then the thieves we currently have in power. The average Nigerian prays to either be in power or for his brother to be in power so they too will have their turn- in other words steal.
what keeps us together? the belief that one day it will be my turn and I will have my share of the National cake ie oil.
So stop romanticising about conspiracy theories and violence being the solution to our problem, if your really what to help get the real masses on the streets, the truck pushers, farmers, fishermen, taxi drivers, primary (notice primary school) teachers, let whoever leads this country give these people jobs, health care and electricity - our people do not ask for much.
By the way I am from Warri, personally have met the boys in the creeks, I know many politicians personally, I have met them sharing money in London - believe me it is simple but not simple. i scanned and scanned the all the posts so far on this topic, yes all 23 pages, looking for any contribution from two of the most useless contributors on NL, TENSOR77 and ZIGA, on their views of this latest development from nigeria. shame no gree them contribute. We are becoming a failed state. That the only people interested in the continued unification of the country are either looting the country blind, have business interests in the country or dont just know what the hell is going on.
