@agitator  Nice one. The worse part now is using economics to justify corruption. When you go to other threads you will notice that the psychy of the average Nigerian has gradualy been tuned to believe that there is nothing wrong with corruption anymore. Madness.

In any civilised society, death is not a means for escape for crimes committed. I stand to be corrected if i am wrong. When names of tyrants or looters are brought up, it is the duty of the living to vilify the memory of the culprit at every opportunity in order to serve as a reminder to others to be wary of their actions when in a privileged position. And according to some people, since the legal system does not work in Nigeria, there is no need to chase down the living looters because it is a waste of time. They should only be encouraged (and thanked when the do) to reinvest the money stolen back into the Nation. If this is not madness i wonder what is.

I love this thread. This should  be a lesson for all our corrupt leaders. When you steal public funds to enrich yourself and try to shroud your evil deeds with humanitarian works, posterity will shame you and lineage forever more. Abiola was an intelligent man but he was also a theif. That is why the ghost of ITT is pursuing him and his lineage to this day. His name will never be at rest until we have closure.

It is synonymous to a criminal who kidnaps a little girl with the intent to rape and kill her but has a change of heart and returns the victim unharmed, and Courts usually reward them by giving them a lessened sentence. The alleged kidnapper can be commended for returning the girl but that by no means exculpates the alleged kidnapper from his wrongdoing. Obasanjo can be commended for creating 6,000 jobs and at the same time berated for stealing money, and he should also be prosecuted. Again, under comparative economic analysis, it is better to create 6,000 jobs in your own country rather than investing that money overseas, like some Nigerian thieves who are using stolen funds to construct skyscrapers in Dubai.

@ Princek12  A suicide bomber enters a restaurant filled with people. But before blowing up everybody he asks the old people in the restaurant to leave then subsequently blows up himself and everyboldy else left in the restaurant. Kudos must be given to him for allowing the aged people in the restaurant leave/live, it shows he has respect. If there were more suicide bombers like that in the world, it will definitetly be a better place. sameway, if there were more looters like obj then Nigeria would be a better place.

creating the jobs or how much he is paying them is not the issue. What are we telling the future generations? that after a person embezzles state funds he should be congratulated for investing the money he stole into the economy. Fine obj is somewhat untouchable but the idea of congratulating him on investing the money he stole back into the economy is madness. it shouldn't even be in discussion. you think he is investing in the economy? all he is doing is growing his ill gotten wealth. I just do not know why people are not getting this. unfortunately the moral psychy of the average Nigerian is gradually eroding due to poverty. The govt/elite has won. The strategy is simple. "keep them in perpetual poverty and we can make them think and behave the way we want." God help us.

@slimes   Ordinarily, in an ideal situation an id card is used to maintain security, allocate resource, constantly revised population census, immigrant tracking, policy strategy/implementation etc. As it is the govt's way is the "best guess" way. If Nigeria had her head in the game there would be no need to spend billions almost every time to run population census. There would be no need since everybody would be required by law to have an id card and the population would be tracked by it. There are so many benefits for a country to have a functioning id card scheme, but like i said Nigeria has to get her head in the game.

how people cant discuss issues with one another without throwing insults is amazing. Even when you are discussing other issues like music, romance etc these same people come on here and before they write three words, they would have decorated their write ups with all manner of insults and abusive languages thrown at anyone who as much as toe a different line of thot to theirs.
To start with, obj has not been proven to have looted money. U cannot sit in your room and just assume since his farm was better of after he left office then he must have dried up nija money. How wont his farm improve? He was president for 8yrs for God's sake. There are so many benefits that are attached to dat office. The 6k figure amounts to the total no of employees thruout the 30yrs of its existence.
im not an obj beneficary but if truth be told he tried his best given the circumstances and he shud be called father of modern nigeria.
He may not av been perfect. He may failed in some aspects( who doesnt fail anyway or who passes all). But to say the man was a total failure is just being economical with d truth.
He laid the foundation for us to move forward and he shud be accorded that honour.

@chidichris   you never see anything. I just thank God for my life. I probably have an unfair advantage. Maybe if i was immersed deep in poverty my rationale will be as warped as some people here. Some people just do not know how dangerous this line of thought is to them as a person and to us as a nation. It has gotten to bad that the first thing anyone thinks about when entering public office is to "chop" then maybe do the job he was voted to do. If the crook decides to put back, say 1% of what he stole, people will find ways of rationalizing his actions. "yes e chop money but at least he invest the money back." We are gradually accepting coruption as a way of life. This issue should not even be in debate at all. Fine as an ordinary citizen you may not be able to physicaly affect lives of millions but at least you have your voice and should be able to speak out against madness. Whether we love or hate OBJ, kudos must be given for creating jobs in Nigeria.
If all the former rogues head of states such as IBB, Abubakar, Buhari, Shagari; each creats an industry employing at least 6000 Nigerians, that will equal to about 24,000 jobs.
These jobs will help stablize our nation, instead of their loots sitting tight in some Swiss bank.
24K jobs will have an immediate and positive effect on Nigeria, whether we like these former presidents or not.

@Naijaking1 Let me explain the order of things. When a person has perpetuated an unlawful act and has profited from that act, you as a person must condemn that act. You do not try to rationalize the unlawful acts with gibberish logic. What you have said in plain english is that anybody can loot the treasury, reinvest the loot into the economy and his/her/their concience will not be pricked because people like nairaking1 will speak out for him/her/them. Little wonder that Nigeria is going down the drain with educated(assumption) illiterates like you trying to rationalize insane things. Poverty is a terrible thing.
