Iyke-D:

FYI: your argument is not the issue.
Here is one of the issues: "You do not arrest a man before looking for evidence to prosecute him.  It is the other way round.”
Politics › Re: Who Is Fooling Who? by BigB11(op): 10:20pm On Nov 05, 2007
Did you use really the word strategy?  As for what is the difference between a man that stole
2 Toyota Corolla and Lambhorghini, let's put your question in a much clearer context. The least
expensive Lamborghini is about $200,000 (give or take) which will fetch about 8 Toyota Corolla
(at about $25,000 each).  Now, $240million of IBB's son stake in Globalcom will buy about 480
type of houses that OBJ's son bought. If indeed we are concerned about strategy, I ask again,
should the EFCC spend $500,000 to recover $500,000 or will it make more strategic and economic
sense for them to spend $500,000 or even $1million in recovering $240million?
I don't know what you do for a living, but my man, with this mentality you've just displayed, you have just totally incapacitated yourself.
That question also happens to be a leadership 101 question.

EFCC mission or objective is not for profit, their accomplishment is not measured by calculating Kobo and Naira; this is an organization that is implemented to enforce the law.
I'm not sure if you truly understand the mighty role of EFCC; Please, quickly get familiar with it because you're starting not to make any sense anymore,

That will be BigB1's happiest day on earth. Unfortunately for him, enough Nigerians are "awake" and do
understand the role the EFCC is playing.
Unbelievable to hear such a despicable statement coming from you. Totally inaccurate and a very low blow.

You should apologize.

FYI: you've miscalculated again.
This fact has nothing to do with the price of the house that belongs to OBJ's son or the price of 24% of Globacom. What we are looking at is the strategy EFCC has used to approach these 2 scenarios.
When it comes to fair justice, price or amount stolen shouldn't be what is used to determine who to be probed or arrested.
What is the difference between a man that stole a Toyota Corolla and a man that stole a Lamborghini?

And just for the record:It has been confirmed that any percentage of Globacom doesn't belong to IBB's son.

But Nigerians are too damn dull to understand this strategy.

Justice is supposed to be blind, but in EFCC's case, it is one-eyed!

As a president, I will never never allow failure to exist around my government. The same way ETTEH was replaced, EFCC could also be replaced. This courageous move will only make things easier and better for everybody.

Mckren
I will answer all your questions, unlike what you've shown us in the past.

Question#1
why we can not boost ICPC to do whatever it is you think EFCC are not doing?

Please double check my record on Nairaland. I've recommended this idea in the past; infact I was the first one that introduced the fact that implementing EFCC was never a good idea.
ICPC could have been empowered instead of implementing the second organization. Please go and check the description of both organizations' duties and you will quickly realize that there was no reason to create EFCC.
But OBJ had his plans.
REASON: ICPC members are old schools, very educated, full of experience and can never never be intimidated by the president. The president knew this and he also understood that ICPC as a political tool wouldn't go well.
Hence, he went ahead and introduced EFCC, and gave the upper hand to a single entity, but he retained the main remote control, which he pushed when ever he felt like it.
This is how EFCC became a pure political tool.

Question#2
Why must it be outright scrap of the EFCC?

My man, nothing personal, but it is known by many, world wide that as long as EFCC is involved with war against corruption, Nigeria as a nation will never never move forward.
REASON: It is obvious that OBJ is still pretty much in control, it is also still obvious that the main targets are the insubordinate ones, the ones that did not listen or obey OBJ's insensitive rules.
How can we be successful if fighting corruption is all about being selective?
Furthermore, abolishing EFCC all together also means abolishing the opportunities for governors to use OBJ as an excuse. It will make things a lot clearer and eradicate all these unnecessary/ unwanted obstacles.

Question#3
Is continuity a crime?

As long as EFCC continues with this style of operation, we will also continue to sing that old song for many many years to come with absolutely BIG ZERO to accomplish.
Infact, I feel that EFCC is giving this thieves enormous opportunities and reasons to remain free.

Therefore, please go somewhere.
Politics › Re: Who Is Fooling Who? by BigB11(op): 4:36pm On Nov 05, 2007
I think the problem here is many of us continue to miscalculate.

It's not Ribadu we are talking about; infact, it's not about Ribadu, it about Nigeria as a nation. EFCC is an organization and we need to understand that Ribadu is not the only top guns that work for this organization. Hence, when we point finger at their failure, it absolutely has nothing to do with Ribadu as a fine Nigeria.

We are all human beings and none of us is perfect; but we can not continue to push this old defective car just because Ribadu is a fine Nigerian.

Enough is enough, we need to come out of this comatose state of mind. We can not continue to embrace pure and obvious failure and expect all our objectives to be attained successfully.
Absolutely impossible!

If moving forward is our mission, a new strategy to effectively fight war against corruption in Nigeria must be immediately introduced.
Or else we will be singing the same old song for the next four years while the ex governors and others get richer and plumper

Prof Mckren: How you dey? I hope all is fine with you.
My weekend was alright.

Please, do not take that EFCC job as yet; I think you should wait for a genuine organization to be implemented. EFCC will soon disappear for good.
Nigerians are not fools, we deserve a better and stronger organization.

We are sick and tired of this coward, unlawful, inequitable, unprofessional, deceiver and a big basket of hot water, called EFCC.
It's not too late; it's time for Nigerian government to implement a true organization, who is totally committed to fighting war against corruption effectively, fairly, accordingly and efficiently.

It is enormously obvious to the world that EFCC actions do not correspond with their words. This is also one of the main reasons why United States and  Europe are very hesitant to get involved with this pure fabricated pugnacity against corruption in Nigeria.
EFCC reminds me of a fisherman who is vigorously fishing for shark in Sahara desert in the middle of summer time.

Abeg, give us a break!

AGF slams Ribadu for politicizing anti-graft war PDF

PORT HARCOURT—Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Mr. Michael Andooaka, has slammed the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over the politicization of the fight against corruption insisting on the rule of law in the anti-graft war. Speaking on the second day of the ongoing Senate retreat in Port-Harcourt, Andooaka said the failure of the EFCC to bring Globalcom boss, Michael Adenuga Jnr. and several other prominent officials to trial even after the lapse of their immunity justified his claim.

The EFCC boss Mallam Nuhu Ribadu who was expected to present a paper alongside the Attorney General failed to turn up. Sources told Vanguard that he was unwell.

The AGF also denied insinuations that he took over the prosecution of the former governor of Abia State, Chief Orji Kalu saying that his recent controversial actions were only aimed at establishing a benchmark for the anti –graft war.
“I will fight corruption,’’ Mr. Andooakaa said to wild applause from senators.

Noting that the fight against graft had been politicized, he wondered why none of the several political office holders hounded by the EFCC prior to the elections had been successfully brought to trial.

Noting the arrest of Globalcom boss, Mr Adenuga, he said:
“If agencies of government are used for political ends, there are bound to be problems.  In Adenuga’s case, how do you carry forty policemen or so to arrest a harmless Nigerian without a court warrant?

“It is unjust and unconstitutional.  It is rascality and a breach of the law to say you will arrest a man before looking for evidence to prosecute.  You do not arrest a man before looking for evidence to prosecute him.  It is the other way round.”

PART 2

Nigeria: EFCC - Chronology of the Deceit!

Does the EFCC realise how steadily its credibility is ebbing away by allowing itself to be used by Obasanjo? The problem of the EFCC did not start with AG Aondoakaa; its crisis of credibility was building up over time and, therefore, it is only blackmailing the Minister of Justice to divert attention from its insincerity. What we had under the former administration was a case of naked emperors; everybody knew they were in their birthday suits, but the only people who didn't take notice were the pretenders themselves.

When former Governor Saminu Turaki's supporters alleged that former Presidential Assistant, Andy Uba, collected ten billion naira from Jigawa State to finance the third term project, the EFCC quickly denied it. Is EFCC Andy Uba's mouthpiece? Is Andy Uba not capable of defending himself? Why does EFCC become jittery when it comes to allegations that threaten to expose Obasanjo's hypocrisy?

Ribadu's blind loyalty to Obasanjo is intriguing. It seems the EFCC boss is ready to worship the ground Obasanjo walks on! But it is misplaced loyalty because Obasanjo is the embodiment of hypocrisy. He perceives Babangida, Atiku Abubakar, Aliyu Gusau, Otunba Fasawe, Mike Adenuga and others as crooks yet he was lapping up their donations for his own causes. In 1999, Babangida and others raised three billion naira for his presidential campaign and he didn't challenge them about the sources of the money. If he is the epitome of integrity and incorruptibility as he passes off, why didn't he reject the donations?

The Atiku Campaign Organisation once accused Ribadu of buying a house at Asokoro valued at more than 300 million naira under the monetisation policy. In fact, Atiku's supporters repeated this allegation in a documentary run on AIT. Why didn't Ribadu defend the allegation? We have waited and waited but still he hasn't uttered a word of explanation over the house he allegedly purchased.

He promised to shock Nigerians over Transcorp yet almost two years after, we have heard nothing about the conglomerate. Let him know that the scales have dropped off from our eyes. Considering the speed with which he moved against former Vice President Atiku Abubakar over the PTDF scandal, which was hyped with nauseating frequency, why didn't he react with the same moral fury against Obasanjo's share purchase scandal in Transcorp while he was holding office?

Nigerians can also recall that in 2002, the Acting Auditor-General of the Federation, Mr Vincent Azi was unceremoniously dismissed from his job for submitting a report to the National Assembly, which indicted the Presidency of not applying the principle of transparency in the management of public funds. Therefore, the EFCC can no longer blow smoke in our eyes and Ribadu's rude confrontation with Aondoakaa is a mere red herring to cover up its credibility deficit.

I don't get it, but one thing is for sure: boys will always be boys, while men will remain men.

The facts are enormously out there; I just truly don't know how long or what it will take for Nigerians to start waking up from this eternal microsleep.

It is also disgusting to see how many of us are still out there that are just purely immune to being bamboozled.

PART 1

Nigeria: EFCC - Chronology of the Deceit!

According to an English adage, it is not all whom the dogs bark at that are thieves!

The EFCC chairman, Malam Nuhu Ribadu, has publicly declared almost every serving past leader as thieves, except perhaps those in the good books of the greatest pretender of our time - former President Olusegun Obasanjo. He has repeatedly in the past called former President Babangida all sorts of uncharitable names even though the biggest official robbery committed within the shortest space of time took place under the sanctimonious Obasanjo administration. Public robbery under that administration was glorified as financial skill.

In his latest antics, Nuhu Ribadu wants to create the mischievous impression that the Yar'Adua administration is not zealously committed to the anti-corruption crusade as his predecessor - Gen. Obasanjo, even though the former president is scared to declare his assets publicly. His rude confrontation with the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr Michael Aondoakaa is testimony to EFCC's mischievous game to discredit President Yar'Adua's philosophy of following the rule of law.

Ribadu and his fellow travellers on Obasanjo's train kangaroo culture are not happy to be directed to operate within the boundaries of the rule of law. For so long, Nuhu Ribadu deceived Nigerians and it is high time someone stood up and exposed his lies and insincerity in fighting corruption. As one produces a chronology of evidence, the chinks in the armour of the EFCC will be revealed and then we shall all see that the real obstacle to the anti-corruption crusade is Ribadu's insincerity and rough justice. Justice is supposed to be blind, but in EFCC's case, it is one-eyed!

Didn't Ribadu tell the Senate in 2006 that thirty-one governors had cases to answer over corruption and even claimed that he had watertight evidence to nail them? Now, why did the number suddenly reduce to mere five governors? Ribadu consistently rejects accusations of lopsided justice, but why didn't he show enthusiasm towards the petitions against certain former governors?

It was recently reported that forty billion naira was donated to the PDP 2007 presidential campaign war chest by corporate bodies in violation of the limits set for donations to political parties by the Electoral Act 2006. Was Nuhu Ribadu in a slumber? Were these donations not made with the full knowledge of former President Obasanjo? Why didn't Ribadu or Emmanuel Ayoola of ICPC show interest in these corruption-laden donations? What has become of Ribadu's celebrated guts?

Nigeria also lost fifty-seven billion naira as revenue as a result of import duty waivers and concessions generously granted by Obasanjo to his blue-eyed boys in Nigeria's private sector. Does Nuhu Ribadu need to be reminded that this is corruption and abuse of office? Were the Vaswani brothers not deported out of Nigeria at the instigation of their business rivals who were friends of Obasanjo? The Vaswani brothers were accused of defrauding Nigeria of forty billion naira as import duty evasion.

What happened to Ribadu's report on the eighty-five billion naira scandal at the Nigerian Ports Authority? Former President Obasanjo publicly discredited the report, describing it as inconclusive because his friend, Bode George, was involved. If Ribadu is driven by principle rather than opportunism, why didn't he resign, at least to prove to Nigerians that Obasanjo was not sincere about the anti-corruption crusade? It is clear from this case that contrary to the impression that Ribadu is making sacrifice for doing this job, the man has private motives for continuing in office despite the hypocrisy of Obasanjo.

Mallam Ribadu is obviously dancing in a net, but how long can he fool discerning Nigerians? In the wake of the third term project in 2006, it was on record that fifty million naira cash was being dished out to any senator willing to play ball by voting for constitutional amendment. Strangely, but not surprisingly, Nuhu Ribadu swept the issue under the carpet.

Obasanjo's cousin and former Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Defence, Mr Joseph Makanjuola, were cited in a 420-million naira corruption scandal and were arrested to impress the public that Obasanjo's government meant business. However, a few months later, the then Attorney-General of the Federation, Mr Kanu Agabi, rushed to the court to discontinue Makanjuola's prosecution, which conveniently created the chance for him to escape abroad. Was Ribadu sleeping when this incident happened under his nose?

Perhaps to prove that he meant business, Mallam Ribadu once arrested Gen. Babangida's son, Muhammad Babangida, harassing the poor boy to explain how he got the money to buy shares in Globacom. But our moral warrior, Ribadu, did not arrest Gbenga Obasanjo to explain how he has been making his money after abandoning his medical practice in the US. to return to Nigeria when his father became the president in 1999.

Besides, Obasanjo's son in the US., Muyiwa, allegedly bought a house at 570 thousand dollars, just one year after leaving the university. And when the press cornered Ribadu, he said Muyiwa is a private citizen, which is outside the purview of EFCC duties. How deceitful! Was Muhammad Babangida a public office-holder when Ribadu went after him?

IG summons Adedibu over Oyo crisis

The Acting Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Mike Okiro, has summoned the controversial Ibadan politician, Alhaji Lamidi Adedibu, to respond to myriad of petitions against him by some people within and outside Oyo State.

A source at the state police command said on Thursday that Adedibu was invited to the Force headquarters with a letter dated October 31, 2007 and signed by Deputy Commissioner of Police, Mr. Austin Obaedo.

Adedibu, a strong member of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, was asked to report at the Louis Edet house of the police today (Friday), according to the source.

The PDP chieftain has been under intense criticisms over crises arising from political violence in the state.

The Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Samuel Odulana recently asked Adedibu to quit politics so that peace would reign in the state.

The authorities of the National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control, through its Director-General, Prof. Dora Akunyili, also accused the politician of obstructing the war against fake drugs in the state.

Workers of the state-owned Broadcasting Corporation also on Monday petitioned the IG over the May 23 attack on the three transmitting stations in the state allegedly by supporters of Adedibu.

They claimed that no fewer than 19 people were injured and that valuables like money and handsets were stolen by the thugs used to carry out the invasion.

A former director of the Odua Investment Limited, Alhaji Olawale Oladoja, whose official car was forcefully seized from him by suspected thugs allegedly working for Adedibu, also petitioned the police hierarchy.

Oladoja alleged an assassination attempt and armed robbery attack on him at the Agodi Praying Ground after observing his prayers to mark the end of the Ramadan festival.

In his petition to the IGP, the former director had challenged the police hierarchy to prove that they were actually championing the rule of law crusade of President Umaru YarAdua by investigating his supposed abduction by Adedibus boys.

Part of the petition reads: Circumstances surrounding the recovery of my stolen car from Adedibus house as well as the twist in my case where I was later arraigned in court for car stealing and briefly remanded at Agodi prison before my lawyer secured my bail should be unraveled.”

I state here and I boldly stand to be contradicted by anybody on this forum: EFCC has never been compromised at all, all they are being forced to do is to sit on their hands while the thieves enjoy the pilfered funds.
Absolutely Pointless!
You need to first understand the true meaning of the word "compromise" before using it.

The main reason why war against corruption is not working in Nigeria is pretty simple, but many prefer to continue to intentionally miscalculate and unnecessarily make things complicated.
Reasons:
1. The involvement of OBJ
2. Too many are too corrupt for too long (don't you know than it becomes very difficult to throw stone when your entire family also resides in the same glass house?).
The war against corruption in Nigeria is much bigger and deeper than EFCC; if this organization is not immediately abolished, we will remain here talking about the same old story over and over for the next 4 years with absolutely nothing tangible to hold on to.

Just wait and see.
