If the child can not even take care of the fish, how do you trust the child to take care of the dogMay be the child wants something to pet, something to take for a walk, something to protect him. @Kobojunkie; It is about time to have made in Nigeria cars. This is not only great for Nigeria, but also magnificent for the entire Africa. There is absolutely no need to be panic; let's just be happy and proud. We have seen too much defeatism, too much pessimism, too much of a negative approach, all within 47 years. It is time for us, Nigerians to step up our confidence, be optimistic and embrace this wonderful accomplishment. |
think denying bill gates visa is just to protect him, he,s not going to benefit from us, he.ll only come to make a positive change or something to improve the country. So its nothing to feel great about that he was denied visa because he has nothing to lose. They will go ahead and give visa to people that will not benefit the country and those that would do something, they will act ignorant. Rubbish i,ll say.Unbelievable state of mind; you sound like a house-girl. |
Honestly when I read such comments you can only wonder if they were granted American Passport last week.Mckren, In spite of the fact that we see things differently 110% of the time, I must attest that you're one of the most exceptional Nigerians I've encountered on Nairaland. I admire your sincerity, maturity level, conviction and the way you tend to comport yourself even when things seem not to be going your way. Your inimitable ways make you different from the rest. But I still can't stand you! One love! |
I am flattered by your worried concern regarding my mode of transport Big Bee. Now this is very heart warming.. Jakumo: I didn't expect you to get it. |
Thanks, my man. Finally Nigerian officials are starting to do their jobs the right way, and the dead heads are still here crying. I don't get it. Infact, I'm sure that Mr.Gate saw nothing wrong with this action, but of course, most Nigerians see nothing but money being denied; what a shame. Where is the dignity and pride of our country? |
I can't speak for anyone else, Big Bee, but I personally am WAY too stupidJakumo, when are you finally going to buy your own car? |
So, stick to it. |
Things will change for better in Nigeria, as soon as we, Nigerians start to recognize, respect and embrace the value of our nation. |
Big B1, you are yet to tell us about the so-called "law" that is the backing of your argument.I have confidence that you're bright enough to discover this "LAW" on your own. |
Its not about any victory , its not about being able to pay our national debt or anything like that , the rule is that the form should be filled correctly , so if my bill gates had not filled them correctly , then he should not be issued visa , he must filled the form correctly according to the rule, chikenaExcellent! This is one of our problems, some Nigerians will easily put themselves down just because of couple of dollars; absolutely unacceptable. The pride of my nation is priceless and Mr. Gate can not afford to purchase it under any circumstances. |
I think one of the immigration officers had a painful experience with Windows Vista. . .lol |
Come on Big Bee, spit it out. YOU HATE WHITE PEOPLE, and any perversion of the local Nigerian laws that will make life miserable for them would please you immenselyMy man, you got it wrong again as usual. I don't hate white people, it will be stupid and unreasonable for me to hate white people. I just hate people (blacks) that forget who they are; I also call these people "Durable Door Mat". |
Some people find it very difficult to stick to one side; absolutely no need to flipflop, it shows weakness. I see this all the time, they state that they hate IBB, but when the man comes around, the same people usually start dancing like a month old puppy happy to see milk. Amusing! |
This is a man that can single-handedly pay off our national debt.It doesn't matter if the man can afford to give every Nigerian $1m each; law is law and must be followed under any circumstances. Money is not everything, the pride of our nation is priceless. |
If Bill Gate doesn't have appropriate document to enter Nigeria, he should certainly be denied Visa. I don't care if your name is Mr.Gate or Mr.Benson, Nigeria is a nation that has rules and regulations that must be followed. |
Babangida singled out Soyinka’s achievement as a rare honour for Nigeria.A signal of class and brilliance. MAMAJAMA, I told you that you will never never hear anything regarding this issue from IBB; and if you do, it would be nothing but respect for Mr Soyinka's point of view and accomplishment. Leadership role is an invaluable natural talent; it's either you have it or you just don't, there isn't in between. Apart from few mistakes, IBB remains an incredible leader that this country has ever produced. |
I truly admire the compassion of the senate president, but I hope he doesn't come out to admit that his action is based on the fact that Tuface is from Benue state; it will be absolutely inappropriate. As a leader and a senate president, he should quickly discover an exceptional premise for his decision to assist this innocent young man (Tuface); or else his sincerity and strong desire to help this family may turn into an unpleasant event or undesirable downfall. Therefore, he must be very careful. My prayer goes to Tuface. |
@davidylan: I agree, Shagari was very innocent. He did not know what was going on or how to run the country and absolutely didn't have a leadership stamina. He did not steal as much as the people around him at the time. Nevertheless, I'm very proud of his children; I think they will do better and make their father shine. |
It is amusing to me that you guys find it very difficult to present your points without getting personal. Are you a part of that secret society that is getting obscenely rich off Nigeria's oil wealth Big Bee ? If so then for sure I can understand your nervousness at the appearance of a foreign film crew anywhere near the "Ground Zero" of your feeding grounds/ killing fields.Jakumo, your statement is totally unnecessary and of all people, you should be smart enough to know better. Texazzpete, if you knew Big b1's identity, trust me, you wouldn't have opened your mouth just like that to expose those yellow spikes. Absolutely senseless and unnecessary! If it makes you guys feel better, please go ahead and also allow these folks to film your entire villages; and we shall all see the end result. One love! |
On the state of the nation after the 47th Independence Anniversary, Babangida said the country was not doing badly, compared to other nations that are about 100 years old. “I was born before independence so I know where Nigeria was before, after independence and during the civil war. I think we’re trying very hard when you compare it with other nations about 100 years old". IBB, 10/06/07 You make your judgement! |
I’m qualified, nobody can intimidate me – IBB boasts After weeks of suspense, former military president, Gen. Ibrahim Babangida, yesterday made a surprise appearance at MUSON center, Lagos venue of this year’s literary award lecture sponsored by Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG). Penciled down as Keynote speaker, the choice of IBB had sparked off verbal warfare in the literary community, prompting his spokesman, Kassim Afegbua, to publicly announce that the retired General was unlikely to honour the invitation in view of the Ramadan fasting. Nobel Laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka particularly opposed the idea of IBB giving a talk at the forum, saying that he was most incompetent. But when almost everyone thought that he would not make it, the retired General damned the verbal brouhaha thereof and jetted into Lagos yesterday afternoon. He flew into Lagos at exactly 5.28pm aboard a chartered HS-125 aircraft marked ZS-PKY. Cornered, IBB told the aviation correspondents that he was completely unperturbed by the comments of Nobel Laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka who had said he was incompetent to deliver such a high-level lecture, adding: “Just like you journalists say, publish and be damned. I’m a general and I’ve been in the military for 32 years. So, I don’t get frightened by such comments. I’m more than qualified to deliver the lecture,” he said. Soyinka had earlier in the week described the invitation extended to IBB to grace the occasion as a guest lecturer as a wrong move, saying he was not qualified for it. Babangida, who wore a white agbada with grey stripes and a pair of black shoes was in a relaxed mood, nodding intermittently as he exchanged greetings with politicians and others who came to welcome him. On his take on the contract scandal rocking the House of Representatives that involves the Speaker, Mrs. Patricia Etteh, the former President said there was nothing to worry about, as the House is capable of handling the crisis. “The problem there has not gone beyond the control of the House. The House is handling the problem itself.” On the state of the nation after the 47th Independence Anniversary, Babangida said the country was not doing badly, compared to other nations that are about 100 years old. “I was born before independence so I know where Nigeria was before, after independence and during the civil war. I think we’re trying very hard when you compare it with other nations about 100 years old.” About the vision 20/20 agenda which President Musa Yar’Adua has set as developmental agenda for the country which aims at making Nigeria one of the 20 most developed nations by year 2020, IBB expressed optimism that the target would be achieved, buttressing his assurance on the quality of manpower that the country parades. “I am optimistic that we shall achieve vision 2020 because of the quality of people who’re pushing hard to achieve it. We have very highly educated people and very pushful and so the older generation sit and stay happy,” he said. He was later driven to MUSON Centre, venue of the event, in an unmarked black Mercedes Benz Jeep. Meanwhile, Soyinka yesterday dismissed a verbal attack on him by Afegbua, saying it was not worthy of his response. Afegbua had described Soyinka as suffering from “intellectual cirrhosis” while joining issues with the literary giant who voiced his opposition to the choice of Babangida as Keynote Speaker at this year’s literary lecture. Said Soyinka yesterday: “With this, Mr. Kassim Afegbua has plumbed into an abysmal depth in the career of spokesmen for public officers; a depth already attained by Femi Fani-Kayode, which I never thought could be surpassed. In the case of Fani-Kayode, it was one lie per paragraph. In the case of Afegbua, it is one lie per line. Such character is beneath contempt, and is not worth my attention. As at press time last night, Sunday Sun survey revealed the some leading writers were absent at the event, suggesting that they might have heeded Prof Soyinka’s call for literary minds to boycott this year’s ritual because of IBB’s involvment. http://www.ngex.com/cgi-bin/frame/frameit2.plx?link=%22http://www.sunnewsonline.com/%22 |
Sorry, this doesn't make any different. The senators do not depend on their salaries; they focus more on kick backs. |
The question is, can these same folks take their camera to United States to run special on JENA6 without the propal permission of the US officials? I don't care how long this white lady has been married to a Nigerian or how positive her intentions are; she must still follow proper steps. This is a new Nigeria, new future and those old days are gone. FYI:People will only treat your country the same way you've presented the nation to them. If we don't start respecting our country, no one else will show any respect. |
The offence of these folks could be seen as "Sedition" Moreover, I've you thought of these folks action as also condoning the terrible behaviour of the "Niger Delta Militant Group"? We must rise up, find a better solution and keep our dirty laundry to ourselves. |
Posted by I-man Stop reasoning like a stark illiterate. What law can you cite that prohibits the above.Since when did inhabitants of Nigeria need Govt consent to film our "dirty laundry".My man, first I will advice you to simmer down and show some respect by not exhibiting your maturity level. This is not a fight, it is absolutely OK for us to view this issue differently. |
You can not be simple and expect to understand by point; the future is my focus. |
Who cares about the filming of the Ijaw youth? This is not the point. Don't be stupid and stop comparing these folks to common Nigerians abroad, that only film for tourism purpose. The intention of these folks (spies) is totally different. What we are saying is, we shouldn't allow anybody to feel that because this is an African country, it means everything goes. Absolutely Rubbish. The question is, can these same folks take their camera to United States to run special on JENA6 without the propal permission of the US officials? Answer is absolutely negative. So, why should we allow this rubbish to take place? You guys need to wake up and stop thinking like OBJ. On my mind, Nigeria is bigger/ better than any other country and it's time for us to start treating this country with respect. I don't care how long the white lady has been married to a Nigeria, there is still laws and regulations to be followed. As long as their intention is to expose Nigerian dirty laundry to the world without the consent of Nigerian officials, their action remains illegal. Just because situation in Niger Delta is absurd doesn't mean anybody can just do as he or she desires. There is no country that wants her dirty laundry to be exposed to the world; and a true leader will do anything and everything to protect the land of his or her nation, (under any circumstances). Our people are so stupid and prefer to continue to walk around with SLAVE mentality; it is so sad that many of us do not understand the true value of our nation and how to prevent the value from being depreciated. Do you know how much damage this illegal filming could bring to our nation? This action could negatively affect investors' decision, tourism activity, another opportunity for Oprah to put us on a blast and many many more. Don't get me wrong, yes, the situation in Niger Delta is not fair and not friendly; And FYI, this new admin is trying everything to bring fairness and peace to this region. But for some white attention seeker to be filming this ridiculous situation with the intention to expose the bad side of Nigeria to further damage our image around the world is totally unacceptable. Any competent leader will never allow this to happen. I say, let us work together and discover a better strategy to make thing better for the people of Niger Delta. Enough is enough, Nigeria is on her way back to the top, it makes no sense to allow another worthless propaganda. You can not be simple and expect to understand by point; the future is my focus. |
It is obvious that we all have different state of minds and absolutely not on the same page; therefore, we can remain here till next year, we will never view this issue the same way. But I'm sure that in few more years, it will all be clear to you. Good luck, folks! |
almondjoy: why are you hidding behind the tree? I will not respond to a statement posted by a clown! |
Using a video camera to tape Ijaw youths is not spying. Sightseeing is not spying.Do you think NTA could go to United States and freely run a special on Katrina, Jena6 or racism in America without the proper permission of the United States officials? Answer: Impossible. There are rules and regulation to be followed; and this is what I'm talking about. This issue has nothing to do with what these folks were spying on, it about the pride of our nation. Infact, the intention of these folks may be positive, but still, Nigeria as a nation has rules and regulations. I don't think that it is OK for anybody to come to my country to run special on Niger Delta without the consent of the officials; it just doesn't work like that, period. Regardless of what may be going on in Nigeria, you get respect by protect your land. Moreover, do you guys really know what this folks are planing to do with whatever information they were spying on? No wonder why many in United States still believe that Africans walk around naked in Africa. If it was up to me, these people will not be allowed into that region without a proper approval. Every country is faced with one or two domestic problems, but that doesn't mean foreigners should come and illegally download or video tape the sample of the problems to present to the world. It is not right. |
It is so sad that many of us truly do not understand the true value of our nation, Nigeria. I guess, the leaders are to blame. FYI:This country is powerful, wealthy and has a bright future. Time will tell. |
It doesn't matter, these folks should not be allowed to step all over our nation like door mat, just because our leaders are lacking common sense and total dedication. What secret are they 'spying' on and for what purpose? Let's stop this idiocy jare.It is all about the pride of our nation. They should be heavily punished. If you allow strange dogs and goats into your house, you should also expect stinky smell to errupt at some point. If it was up to me, I will punish these folks and send a message to the world, that Nigeria is a nation that has laws and regulations. My man, people will only treat you the way you treat yourself. I refuse to compromise the pride of Nigeria. It is a total disrespect when foreigners are here, in my country to spy. |
