if your plan is to travel out immediately you finish. then mathematics is not a bad.

what do you want? to gain knowledge and know-how and then be involved with ground breaking research or to earn a fat salary.

Bro don't be deceived I don't know why most of the people replying you recommend mathematics.

In Nigeria of today engineering is by far the most lucrative option. that is what the labour market wants. check any job site and see how many placements for engineering compared to mathematics. I don't know why they are not being truthful even if they love maths.

yes in advanced countries the sciences and maths leads and are a bit better but in countries like Nigeria. I will advise anybody to stufy engineering over maths.

See! what you have to ask yourself is? if I crossover to engineering will I be a first class or 2.1 graduate? if yes go for it. if no, if u see urself struggling in engineering to get a 2.2 or 3rd class then don't border.

ask yourself bro am many maths graduates do you hear of their succes story?
The ones that are whining(advising) you how many of them earn more than engineers.

Baba forget that thing. if you have the brain go for engineering.

I met a sabbath guy recently,he started preaching to me,telling me going to church on Sunday is not right, that it's really Saturday that was recorded in the bible.

I'm really tired of hearing different theory of Christians, jehovah witness will come and say a different thing, deeper life will come and say another thing.

From my perspective this makes usd/gbp very hard to get hence the naira keeps getting weaker, let the naira ride on normal laws of demand and supply, i noticed naira keeps getting devalued even with all the recent hard policies by the CBN
I don't think some of you get it. the normal laws of demand and supply are being thwarted by some BDC's/dollar sellers so they can make more money at the deriment to the naira. when the cbn didn't put restrictions the naira was falling now that it has put restrictions the naira is still falling that tells us something that wrong. btw how many sectors in Nigerian economy and indeed the world do you see the normal laws of demand and supply work. Every item is control or manipulated by humans.
a good example is the recent fuel crisis. nnpc has made it clear that they imported more than enough fuel but some group of marketers decided to create scarcity in order to make more money especially in this "travelling period". I hope u get my point.

Freewill is an illusion.

How can you say man has freewill when his life has already been destined and designed by a superior being? How is man free then?
destined? how?
In your present realities don't you have freedom to do whatever you want. how is it an illusion. why do u want to refuse to accept the "rationality"/reality of freewill? since you are all about rational thoughts.
Christianity EtcRe: Will He Come During This Advent? by BigBen10: 10:53pm On Dec 08, 2015
Freemanan:
Monotheism affirms that one God is to be the supreme being and only one God and deity should be worshipped. Now this contradicts the state of affairs as it is now, we have numerous religion who believe in different deities who are effective in their own way so how then can monotheism still be valid? How can a Christian claim that only one God exist which is the Christian God yet Muslims get their prayers answered by Allah? Yet Buddhist get what they seek from their supreme being! Yet Taoist get themselves happy with their god?

So in the midst if these numerous deities, and the practicality and effectiveness they have proven overtime, where is Monotheism in the picture? That's the religion aspect.

Now to the most absurb department, it is a philosophical suicide for one to be a monotheist. Reason being, we are assuming that all knowledge and reality stems from a particular place and we both know that this is a Ego Proptr Hoc... If all knowledge and realities emanates and is being ordained by a single God then why will he allow or give birth to opposing deities?

It just begs the question of rationality in several ways...
because God has given man Free will. freewill to do and undo, free will to believe in his existence or not.....ati be be lo. smiley

Plus don't try to box God into your rationality. He is beyond your rationality. He is beyond "the rational" of man. The created our present realities , our present rationalities.
Christianity EtcRe: "Stop Giving Offerings In Redeemed Churches If....." - Pastor Adeboye by BigBen10: 2:07pm On Dec 08, 2015
babajeje123:
Nothing is wrong with the statement. Bible says "Give and it shall be given back unto you, good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over..." Giving can actually lifts a man out of poverty. There are so many instances of people that gave in the bible and were brought out of their penury. The widow of zarephath gave all she had and her lack ended. A small boy gave 5 loaves of bread and two fishes, he went home with 12 baskets. I can also testify to how giving can miraculously transform a man's life.
And as you rightly said also, we need to give also to finance church activities.
Mr oga. The Bible portion you quoted was talking about giving to your neighbour. I said giving to the church is not a guarantee to lift someone out of poverty. Yes it is possible but not a guarantee. What God promised us is salvation and not necessarily wealth(although wealth can be added blessing). He says we should take up our cross and follow him. Many of us have reduced the worship of God to the level of only receiving "blessings and favours". What about our life style? Our words? Our attidude in pleasure and in pain? Our virtues and morals?

He didnt need to say "the only reason why we still collect offering is to lift u people out of poverty". What kind of condescenting statement is that! Like without the people the church will still stand. The church is the people. He shouldnt talk down on them like they are useless.

I have no problem with the second statement by the way.
Christianity EtcRe: "Stop Giving Offerings In Redeemed Churches If....." - Pastor Adeboye by BigBen10: 12:16pm On Dec 08, 2015
"let me tell you the truth;the only reason we still take offerings is to get you out of poverty" - if truly he said this. It is a very wrong statement to make.
1. how does giving offering lift one out of poverty? Did God say that our offerings is an exchange to get wealth?
2. If he had said the only reason we still take offerings is to help you get salvation that would have made sense.
3. If he is to be honest "getting people out of poverty is not the only reason they take offering". They take offerings to finance the church to finance the spread of the gospel( if that is really what they do).

My question iss this: How does this affect an average Nigerian? huh

You see those dignitaries there, only them kids can go to these hospitals so what is the point? huh

OP pls post better stuffs or better still, modify the topic to read 'Launching of world class hospitals for rich kids'
Sounds betterembarassed

Some idiots be quoting me and saying trash.

Now let me ask you,can a 'poor woman' have access to these facilities?
Can a currently jobless nurse with a 2.2 certificate work here as a nurse? huh

My answer is NO

Some Nigerians don't just want to upgrade their thinking faculty.

Rather than employ a doctor with a 2.2 in this 'world class' hospital as the OP called it,i bet you they would employ a doctor with 1st class(who already has a job) and pay him based on hours.

We shouldn't be too naive to think at times and for those who quoted me and said trash because Seun created the quote button,i don't know what to say to you all.

I'm still waiting for that time when we would have money to buy our own food rather than hope on the government to give us food.
my brother there are no first class or second class doctors. All doctors are doctors. chikina smiley

I was born into a catholic family. My parents especially my mom is a die-hard catholic. I did all the catholic sacraments, baptism, confirmation, holy eucharist, except matrimony which would come by God's grace. I was known in my parish for being a devout member of some societies.

Fast forward to this day, I'm no more a catholic, I attend bible believing churches like faith baptist/rccg. This is because upon completion of my university education, I was inspired by the Holy spirit to know the truth, I couldn't prove so many catholic beliefs in the bible, and I care a lot about my eternity. It caused a lot of dispute between I and my parents and even up till today, they've stopped calling me or asking about my welfare. All efforts to convince them beyond reasonable doubt have proved abortive. Pls I need your advice nlanders coz I need to reconcile with my family.
so the Catholic Church is not a "Bible believing church"?
2. was it the holy spirit or your friends that inspired you?
3. if you don't have a problem attending every other church(most of which you don't know their origin) why do u have a problem attending the Catholic Church?

Nairaland has been pushing alot of those stories because that's what the majority want to read & it drives more traffic. Personally I don't even bother reading such stories because many of them are crafted by editors of hungry newspapers.

A 10% devaluation which will put the official exchange rate at about N220 to a dollar will allow the naira to settle? Even if our quest for rubbish imports remains the same?

Why are they all focusing on the demand side and not the supply side?

Why are they not talking about the refineries, textile factories, rice mills and stopping importing rubbish?
My brother because most of them are daft and don't believe things can be produced in Nigeria. very lazy senior generation of people. Things were rosy in their time so they are used to importing things.

Just look at all our governora which of them is thinking of building industries? None. They all are building roads, roads that can't sustain themselves, roads that will spoil after 1.5years then become liabilities to the government in trying to maintain it thereby increasing their recurrent expenditure. None of them is thinking how to develop the agro allied industries, textile, minning, even the oil gan they aren't think how to develop it further. Very daft generation of egbons we have.

Every thread on nairaland now has the probability of turning into Yoruba vs Ibo bashing thread, thereby causing more friction between the two major tribes, even to the larger society. This forum ought to harmonise and not cause division among us.

All these are just liabilities given to the police because 1. they will always deteriorate.
2. can the police &army afford to fuel them consistently?-NO!

What I think is best for them is to give them continuous and special training on how to handle particular situations peculiar to Nigerian environment. e.g how to confront armed robbers at a bank, how to handle traffic situations, how to control crowds etc

Best write up I have seen on getting a job. your points are so valid. am a young man and got a job a month after school without the any advice I followed these steps except one though which I can change going forward.

Older people look at me and are marvelled how I work my up so fast.

I recommend these steps for any graduate looking for a job but just to add one point. Prepare yourself while in school, graduate with a good grade, do extracurricular activities, accept leadership responsibilities these are things that employers look out for.
