DSS and their stupidity. I knew they have met Tuface and probably warned him to stop the protest.

Tuface has set the pace. He is indeed a hero!
seriously undecided are u kidding me. This is most thoughtless post I have seen from you. What then differentiates you from the so called wailers of GEJ era? forming opinions from Facebook posts? you couldn't wait for a reliable source. heck feel free to be vexed about buhari and his administration but don't lose your head while doing so. at least that is what I thought really separated pro-APC from pro-PDP - ability to be logical on reasoning.

We are all shouting "it will reduce road accidents, this and that" without thinking about a scenario whereby armed robbers are chasing a commercial vehicle at 120km/hr?

What happens when you can't accelerate more than 100km/hr?

Even driving at 60km/hr is speed so, whatts the point?

The only thing that should be done is to give speed guns to frsc to check over speeding vehicles rather than this rubbish vehicle speed limiters!
do remember what happened the last time frsc tried to chase down vehicles for wrong doing? this is the only way we can enforce speed limit in Nigeria. we have never been a nation to arken to speed limits.

PoliticsRe: FG Allocates 4.3bn For Revival Of Ajaokuta Steel Company by BigBen10: 3:05pm On Jan 10, 2017
omohayek:
Steel which can be bought on the international markets for a much lower price than you'd get it by wasting more billions on projects like Ajaokuta. Just because something is needed doesn't mean you have to be the one to make it.

What does any of this have to do with manufacturing steel? Do you think Hong Kong is a steel manufacturer? Is Bangalore famous for its steel? Since when did Silicon Valley start pushing out steel products? How does making steel make you a better software engineer, or help anyone better understand neural network architectures?

You're just piling up a bunch of non-sequiturs here, knocking down strawmen nobody ever put up: money wasted on Ajaokuta and other such uneconomic projects is money taken away from improving the electricity grid, the roads and the railways. You can't complain that these things are unreliable in Nigeria while arguing for taking funds away from them to waste on dead-end projects.

So by your reasoning, you need to be able to make steel to innovate in creating software, or to push the frontiers in genetic engineering? That's just nonsense. I've worked with actual innovators, people who are pushing the frontiers in AI and biomedicine, and none of them knows or cares in the slightest about steel and how it's made, because it is absolutely irrelevant. The way to innovate in a field is to learn the state of the art in the field you want to innovate in, not by getting involved in an irrelevant area which just provides one of many low-level materials you might indirectly need.

I suggest you do some reading on concepts such as "gains from trade" and "comparative advantage" to correct the faulty concepts you hold.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gains_from_trade
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparative_advantage
obviously you hv a myopic view of the issue. I wish I can share the full vision with you but no time.

omohayek:
Sorry, but you're wrong on the last point. I am personally involved in several of the most cutting-edge technological areas of today, and know at first-hand that none of them require the ability to "machine or make tools". You don't need anything of the sort to write enterprise software, train a neural network, carry out gene editing, or even to design and mask a microchip, and all of these areas are far more profitable than a 19th-century commodity like steel.
I write software too and I know u need power supply , good internet abi. To do these use can to construct infrastructure for example electric pylons and underground pasaage for fibre optic cables. All these require steel.

yes even with the epileptic power supply u able to still write code but you may never reach your true potential in a country where you hv to wait for nepa to bring light and glo network to kick in before you code. running diesel is expensive. you can't compare ur productivity with some in US who has 24/7 power and internet access. Lastly if you want to real innovate u need to be able to make ur own tools except you just want to replicate what has already been done abroad.

Flaghouse1:
Omohayek,
I quite agree with your postulation above,in reality most of the developed economy we try to emulate today are not really making much from steel production, but in technology, drug development ,software development ,manpower development et al.we are no longer in. The industrial age but technological age where we think outside the box to acheive excellence.
The government realy needs to come up with radical solutions to improving power, roads, rail in the country to be able to increase our GDP without these there. Will be no small scale industries or enterprise developing in order to add to GBP and improve lives of the common man like me and you.Continous injection of scarce resources into the Ajaokuta project without a corresponding northward improvement in return will really be like putting water in a basket.
But our leaders are well read and travel outside why can't they implement some of the lofty projects ,ideas they see when they travel abroad
you can't jump to the technological age with first passing through the industrial age. The technological age relies on stable power, roboust communications networks and ability to machine or make tools (this requires steel).

AZeD1:
No you cannot kick-start other industries because nobody would buy your steel.
Nigeria should be moving towards our competitive strengths not trying to capture the lost decades.

We should be spending any spare money on our power infrastructure and not on reviving dead steel mills.

Anybody who wants to open a steel mill is free to do so but government money should not be used.
PS: Tata is about to sell it's steel mill in the UK because it makes no business sense and that is in a country with light, and transport infrastructure.

What chances does Ajaokuta have?
we have the entire west African market. just like we do cement and fuel (illegal exports thougj)

WebmastersRe: Webmasters, Which Nigerian Web Hosting Company Is Reliable? Pls Help! by BigBen10: 9:22am On Feb 27, 2016
fattbabakay:
I, personally as a web developer, would make the following recommendations :

If your web project is large scale, it will require a high disk space and bandwidth, go for Godaddy. But if you are afraid of dollars and its associates, go for Whogohost's best shared hosting plan.
For a new blog with an average of less than 1k daily views, trudigits silver pack will do, at #7,500 with free .com.ng domain.
For a personal portfolio, something like fattkay.com, with minimal traffic and less disk space requirement, go for Trudigits least plan, at #3,500 with free .com.ng. Meanwhile, a domain name will cost #2,500.

The idea of hosting is, the more you pay, the more you get. Even though you will hardly get a host with 100% uptime, cheap hosting plans might throw your website offline for hours daily. So if you are working on a web project you really value, get ready to spend on hosting. Remember, you have to spend money to make money.

Last bullet, if possible, Always Opt For Foreign Hosts.

Shalom!!!

BusinessRe: Naira Depreciates To N355/$ by BigBen10: 9:02pm On Feb 25, 2016
Built2last:
Saudi Arabia is facing exactly what Nigeria is facing but they took a different approach to solving their illiquidity problem.

The king of Saudi handed over the economic matters of the kingdom to his brother which has the expertise in that regard. (I hope PMB will learn that.)

His brother consistuted an economic team which in turn recommended that experts be brought in from Canada to supervise the economy in this trying time. they will do this in consulting capacity. Our president and his team of junketeers will not ask the Saudi team how they are weathering the storm. I am not one of those fooled that he has gone to pray for Nigeria to be good. Thats a dumb thing to sell. Nigerias problem is not from heaven. we refused to save when we ought to, we refused to diversify when we needed to . so how exactly is it God that is doing us.

The Saudis have a team of 9 experts who operate on the model of "PERFORM OR GO" these experts meet on weekly basis with ministers and heads of various ministries. woe be tied you if you dont show up in that meeting with tangible progress report. once the team recommends you should go, the king fires without recourse to you. every one is on top of their game to perform.

since our president appointed ministers, i can only remember 7 who appears to be on the media. I dont even know most of them talk more of performance.

Why did Saudi go to Canada to get experts. Canada was the only advanced nation in the world that during the 2007/8 credit crunch stood the heat and was never affected.

nations like Germany, U.K and U.S could not understand the magic Canada did. but the man behind the magic was Mark Carny, the then governor of the bank of Canada. In 2013, England broke their own law to hire this same man who managed Canadian economy in trying time to run their national bank and made him chairman of monetary policy

Saudi has learned and gone for other retired team members of Mark Carny.

Our president must go to any mile possible to have working brains on monetary and fiscal policy.

If we dont get it right and define our path in the next four to five months, this nation is headed for a cesspit.

Prof Wole Soyinka , Funsho Philips and other observers including myself are calling on mr president to assemble his economic team before its too late. the honey moon is over. we wasted time in appointing ministers and that is why the embarrasment of the budget. permanent secretaries and directors prepared a budget of yam in the absence of ministers. the lazy ministers came and never read it. here we are.

enough of the junketing, there is work to be done. The energy exacted on begging nations to help us will do better if we channel it to work.
God bless you brother. even though I am a supporter of buhari I completely share in your sentiments especially the last part about looking inwards for solutions rather waiting for foreign help.

Though the story is true, Tope Aluko is someone that should not be shown any mercy. He his as guilty as Fayose in all the allegations he raised. In terms of criminality, he's worse than Fayose. He would have ended up killing Fayose or planning his impeachment if Fayose had made the mistake of appointing him as his Chief of staff.

I hope the relevant security agency will arrest and prosecute him and Fayose (after his tenure) for the crimes they both committed against the people of Ekiti. GEJ and Obanikoro should also be prosecuted for diverting N4.7billion of the country's resources illegally into Fayose's campaign.
only if wailers will take this kind of stand. my problem with them is despite the clear fact that GEJ was corrupt they will never accept it but yet want to point accusing fingers to corrupt APC chieftains which is not bad in it self but first they must accept that GEJ was a corrupt mand and stop giving him and his likes support.

Hello all...My boyfriend started acting strange...I have been together with him for 4 years and now he started calling me only at night from midnight and he doesn't pick my calls when it is day time.

When he calls me at night we will talk for 1 or 2 hours and he will be happy when he talks to me and still talks about future... When i ask him why he doesn't pick my call at day time he will give me some silly excuse like he was sleeping etc..Also he doesn't have a job and we live in different countries...I am thinking maybe he is cheating on me but why then is he not sleeping with that girl at night? If he has a woman he would also stay at night with her...right? What could it be??
since he is jobless. i think he just trying to save cost. night calls might be cheaper but yet again you stay in different countries. then also he may have gotten a menial job. something his not proud of and dose not want you to know about it. so the job keeps him busy during the day that's why he calls at night. I don't think you should get worried as long as he still calls you at night. yes definitely he is hiding something but from your story I don't he is cheating.

After a turbulent week as a result of fuel scarcity and hike in Imo state , I'm compressed to ask this question ; Why do we buy fuel between #120 -130 and the same fuel is being sold #87 in the north? Does it mean that the govt only subsidises fuel that goes to the north.... and easterners can buy high.
See your bias already. How will the govt subsidize only for one part of the country. Are easterners no part of the oil markets? Ifeanyi Ubah a case in point.

Hello Everyone, I seriously need your advice on this issue because am very confused. Here is my Story. I have studied her closely and I see the qualities that I want in a woman in her, and so I intend to settle with her but there is a challenge. I am strongly against Sex before marriage and so the relationship has been Sex-free. But recently she said she could no longer take it, she said she want us to hav sex or I should not blame her if she gets it elsewhere because according to her she has exceeded her endurance limit. I am Confused, I don't know what to do. I really love her and I don't wanna loose her but I can't go against my personal principle. Help a Brother plz I nid your advice.

Uhm, I'm not here to take sides on either major but to correct this claim so others might not get get the wrong idea. The box you speak of really does not exist for engineers per se. They usually want to do other "not-so-cool" things like working with start-ups, automotive, space and energy (alternative or otherwise). Wall street actually likes engineers and i know many that eventually get bored and want to make more money by working for wall street. The skill set that wall street desires is present in both majors. You're opinion is a tad bit biased.
abi o engineers are the ones that venture out pass. engineers program, some sing, so go into animations 2D 3D, some own startups, c++, matlab we do also, even their statistical software we learn and use.
