CAN ANYONE PLS HELP WITH THE TP FREQUENCY AND SYMBOL RATE FOR STRONG DECODER, I BEG O

I DONT SEEM TO SABI HOW TO GET IT FROM THE WEBSITE,

JUST PASTE AM FOR US PLEASE.
again theres nothing like TP frequency or Symbol rate for Strong decoder. Either of these remain the same irrespective of decoder - thats a topic in FTA 101. which everyone has asked you to check out.

You will be happy with yourself if you just take out time and go through all the posts on this forum. That time you wont be asking for for frequency or SR, you will end up being the one to give people.

If the problem is limited internet airtime, why not use the print button on the page and that will give you all the posts on this thread in one page then u can save it and read offline in any computer.

you are right sathob,

i think all these adverts takes away the open source spirit which nairaland, especially this FTA thread represents.

but anyway sha,  im not asking nileasat to construct dishes free for people. that wont be open source anymore. it will be closed source for his business. grin
CultureRe: Ikwerre Names & Their Meanings by biggjoe(m): 5:28pm On Jul 20, 2008
I wonder why all this fuss about Ikwerre and names. Now people have to go to a website to choose their names.

If the ikwerre people believe they are not Igbo, good for them.
But they should tell Nigerians which tribe they are.

If they are a tribe of their own then I think they are a new tribe. Probably started during the civil war. Thats when all the animosity and changing of names started. Thus the rave of adding 'R' as the first letter in the name of towns.

My input here is that if Ikwerre people are dissociating themselves from the Igbo tribe, then I think they have lost their identity.

Period.

@Hotsizzle,

Dont think u can unscramble Trace and other channels on MYTv. U have to look for their card.

@enitan2002

Have they confirmed that they will only be transmitting on KU frequency only, if not I think there is a broad C band footprint from various satellites on Africa.
Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Official Thread of Free-To-Air Satellite TV (Part 1) by biggjoe(op): 2:04pm On Jul 19, 2008
enitan2002,

I have gone through my posts on the previous page to find out where exactly I said that the C and KU band have to do with dishes but i failed to point out exactly where.

Maybe I gave that impression somehow but i really did not mean that. I know I mentioned the differences b/w the two bands on the grounds of frequency and radio power. If i gave that impression, my analogy from VHF and UHF frequecies from the old TV sets should rest it.
If I gave that impression somehow, i wish to state here that it is not my opinion. The difference lies on the frequency.

Twinstaye,

I have done the updating you suggested, when I returned that first post and clicked modify I realised that I can update the FAQ.
Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Official Thread of Free-To-Air Satellite TV (Part 1) by biggjoe(op): 10:53pm On Jul 17, 2008
What is the difference between KU Band and C Band?

Ku-band permits the use of smaller antennas that are aesthetically better and much cheaper than C-band.
A typical Ku-band antenna ranges from about 50cm to 1.2m and a typical C-band antenna ranges from 1.8m, 2.4m, 3.8m etc.
Ku-band requires less radio power than C-band to provide the same signal stength thus allowing a smaller antenna.

The cost of C-band equipment and installation is much more than that of Ku-band.
C-band transmits at a lower frequency ( around 4 MHz), while Ku band transmits at about 11 to 12 GHz.

C-band dishes usually come with a larger size than Ku-band satellite antennas.

Some satellites transmit both C and KU band frequencies. E.g Intelsat 7/10, therefore for one receive channels from the two frequencies, one needs a big dish that will be able to work with the C band signal and as well work for the KU signal.
The person can then choose to either provide two lnbs for the two signals or purchase a universal lnb that can receive signals across the C band and KU band frequencies (have not used that type myself).

For people who always ask, the whole thing is like the VHF and UHF TV signals we use to deal with back in the days.
TVs back then used to have separate knobs for tuning VHF and UHF frequencies until oyibo decided that eveything should be pressed with button and that left a lot of younger folks not knowing anything about frequencies of TV channels they watch everyday.
Thats an analogy anyway.

@ftalover,
your questions on how to know c-band and ku-band takes us back to the principles of satellite transmission which i treated on the first post of this thread. some better gurus on this forum have even treated that issue more deeply.

i think u have to go back to the first post of the thread and check it out.

theres also an faq document attached to that particular post that might help u.

again, you're not getting the breakthru you're referring to, e.i,  getting BBC on C-band with 90cm dish. Its almost impossiblle.
BBC is on the same intelsat 7/10 but on the c-band frequency. so u need a bigger dish than 90cm and a c-band lnb.
Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Official Thread of Free-To-Air Satellite TV (Part 1) by biggjoe(op): 3:41pm On Jul 17, 2008
@ftalover,

the satellite name is no longer PAS7/10. It is now Intelsat 7/10
Intel bought it over from panamsat sometime ago and they are now called intelsat.

as for news channel, i think u have to go for a bigger dish. if u are looking for big time news channels.

CNN is on NSS7 c-band and BBC is on the same Intelsat 10 u are already locked to. But on the c-band frequency.

I think that, if u really need a good news channel, u have to upgrade to C-band.

All the same, if you're not already watching press Tv and SABC news international, just rescan and they might just be good enough for u.

I thought as much.
Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Official Thread of Free-To-Air Satellite TV (Part 1) by biggjoe(op): 4:18pm On Jul 16, 2008
@F Marshal
I have visited this Selfsat site and I think they are only concerned about marketing their products.

What i really want to know is how the reception of the waves happens.

In normal parabolic dish the microwave signal lands on the dish and is channelled towards the the feed horn as a result of the parabolic shape of the dish.

But for this flat antenna       huh   I wonder embarassed

Does it mean that the LNB is incorporated into the flat dish?
Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Official Thread of Free-To-Air Satellite TV (Part 1) by biggjoe(op): 11:24am On Jul 15, 2008
I saw an advert on FLAT satellite receiver (dish) on lyngsat.

Anyone have an idea on the working principle of that one. It really got me thinking.

I think I will go for a research for that one.

Conax is GOOD for them (Trend TV) if HiTv has used it succesfully for so long.

I  think Trend Tv now mean business since they used conax to encrypt their channels.

Bad news for we FTA lovers, I think.

depending on the equipments u have, I believe you will receive more channels than us here in Nigeria because many satellites with TV channels have their footprints down there in the southern africa.

I have not used that link (report to moderator) before. I now followed it and realised it is for reporting offensive posts.

dont report me either, dont think its a good idea.

@F marshal,
Lets do something like that, I tried talking to Seun on Yahoo Messenger but he did not respond (i don't blame the poor guy, who knows how many people that contact him).

I am reporting your post to moderator now, though I have no idea what that really means.
Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Official Thread of Free-To-Air Satellite TV (Part 1) by biggjoe(op): 7:56pm On Jun 18, 2008
@F_Marshal,
I support your motion. Somebody should find a way of telling Seun to make this thread a forum of its own.

Without knowing it, users of this thread have made it so popular that it is becoming one of the most popular FTA forum on the net.

We need to join our voice together and ask Seun to Make this FTA thread a Forum of its own. We deserve it.

@benzion72

I take it that what u meant by 'are there any other satellite MYTV can pick' is whether there are other free channels on the same position with MyTv. If thats what u mean, the answer is that the channels are the ones u can see on the page I attached to my last post.

For u to get more stations, u have to look for a new dish.
