We Nigerians complain too much. NYSC is not as bad as people are making it look here. People have made that connection they really needed in their lives thanks to NYSC. We must not always get things that easy in life. Most of the people who are calling for the scrapping of NYSC did not even finish their service year. The are mostly the abscondees. If only they have waited a liitle longer, they might have seen one or two reasons to encourage it.
Most graduates come out of NYSC to start roaming about the streets. But while they are corpers, they complain that they are wasting their time there as if they have a job waiting for them already.
I passed out in August and most of my friends who complained that NYSC is wasting their time are at home feeding off their parents without any hope of moving out tommorrow. But while we were serving, both federal and state pay us enough to carry ourselves through all the months without borrowing even though we complain a lot.
corpers pass out to see that life is easier with NYSC than it is out there on the streets armed with only your degrees.
Let us not complain too much.
It wasnt all merry in Nasarawa where I served but I met a lot of wonderful people in my life there.
that alone is enough reason for me to keep NYSC going.

I'm a catholic and I know that catholic bishops get a ring during episcopal ordination. Every bishop has his. Popes too. Its a sign of their position. They are shepherds, thats why they have usually carry the long staff (crozier). As for having the rings on both hands, thats strange because I havent seen any catholic bishop with rings on both hands.
I know that most pentecostal pastors that wear rings (2 in this case) might be imitating catholic bishops. It has to be two now because they marry unlike catholic bishops.

The presence of another ring on the other  hand is now a question I can't answer. My input is simply that those that wear more than one on one hand might have copied it from catholic bishops and not probably for fashion or occultic purposes.

Can some one give me a connection string to connect my Ms Access database to my pages. I uploaded the database in a separate folder from the public folder. i have tried many connection strings i got by broesing but none of them is working. My webhost suggested this:

after reading some views here it amazed me how people interpret the Bible to suit their needs but at the same time attack other people of different denomination when they dont agree with thier own version of interpretations on ther issues still from the Bible.
If the catholics were the ones not covering their heads, i know that it must be a some real issue with pentecostals. and this forum must have been filled with such antagonisms.

the campaign from south south is sponsored by only few selfish politicians. their adverts on AIT is funny! remember igbos are in majority in the south south, dont get me wrong. most of them wont agree they are igbos since the end of the civil war. about 2/3 of rivers state ppl are igbos but they do funny things to their names. so with delta state and cross rivers. so south should wait after the igbos have had their own shot at presidency. we never have really had that opportunity. After us they can now come for theirs.

i'd be very surprised if wellborn have not called catholics idol worshippers in this forum. considering the crusade he mounted so far.

i wasnt tryin to justify it because pentecostals do it too. I know its not wrong. i was only pointing out that even though they crictisize catholics, they do it too. which is hypocrisy as I mentioned in the begining of my thread.

again it all goes back to titles. Yes they do not call it Pope in those days but we know that after the confessions of Peter, Christ made him the leader of the apostles. From thence he assumed that position. even though he might not be the most intellingent of them all. The events of the pentecost day said a lot about his authority.
therefore, that time changed the concept and title of the office does not make it not to have been continuous.

On the issue of celibacy of catholic priests. why would u say that any priest who got married did not disobey God? It is a covenant he made. And he is aware of all the terms and conditions. So it is no force at all. Breaking an agreement is a sin.

Whether you call it catholicism or pure biblical christianity, the dinstinction is all your invention. Catholicism is every inch christianity and indeed the pillar of christianity. Though many denominations today for the reasons I highlighted earlier have a way of making themselves believe that catholicism is not part of them.
The issue of 'High priest' like many other issue of title that always arise in the arguments between catholics and other christians is not new. That Christ was referred to as a high priest in the bible is no reason why common sense will not tell us that we have priests. You can call yours pastor, catholics call theirs Priests or Rev. Fathers. When I put 'high' in the priest, I was trying to tell u that the pope is a priest bigger than the normal ones u see in the churches. Not because of anyother thing but due to the virtue of his office.
If u still have problems with the title, then u might want to ask some clerics in the pentecostal world who use the title 'Bishop'. Why they do it. You people also have problems with catholics calling priest 'father' saying that it is wrong according to the bible. I will not go into detail for now telling u why its ok. But u might also want to ask a famous pentecostal pastor in this country who takes the title 'Papa' and his wife 'Mama'. What difference does that make. Earlier in the thread I used the word hypocrites, ppl were angry with me but no one has been able to tell me why im wrong.

Jagunlabi is way off the line. Im not against your using gnostic sources. Its a free forum anyway but the post is based on the bible so your gnostic source will not be enough to convince us.

However, that Bible passage was clear on this topic. Christ chose Peter as the head of his church on earth. No amount of twisting can change this. Even the apostles and the disciples respected this position conferred on Peter.

Even though all priests are not  Pope, a Pope is a priest. A pope is a high priest.

An analogy to the claim (of Peter being First Pope) is in a way like saying that Lord Lugard is the first president  of Nigeria. His position then might not be regarded as that of the presidency as it is known today in Nigeria, but he was the head of the entity that is still Nigeria today. If my political history is  right, there has been the same Nigeria since then. Even though the qualifications of people that is now elected into the office of the presidency today is no longer as it is in those days.

there are major differences in the context of the papal authority but im just trying to make my point clearer. Peter was the head of the apostles and the disciples in the early christian days. After him somebody else took over and so also after that person and the link continued till today with many changes in the way people qualify for that post.

Catholic priests for ages now no longer  marry and if u truly know 'a couple' of them that married, they did so in disobedience.

There is this reality show she organised and each time she appears, she must be with at least four girls by her side. Never a man. Everything suggests she might be lesbian but people, nothing is ever what it seems.

When u put ur answers in antagonistic ways, thats when I go for my 'sabbatical'. Ok, u want to know what qualified Peter as a Pope. In your(?) words u said that as a married man that disqualified him.
I am suprised u dont know but I will like to tell u that catholic priests do marry in the early days. Celibacy is a practice that was introduced in catholicism and not as old as the church itself. So ur attempt to disqualify Peter as a Pope because he was married is not a strong point. Look for something else. You people always have something new to come up with. The lineage of catholic highest authority has never broken since the time of the apostles.

Again that I did not look back at the history of my church?! Again tell me how u know that. Some bad things might have happened in the history of the catholic church. But remember that that history covered all christiandom because all other churches broke out of catholic church long after those things happened. Now, for a Pope to apologise for the deeds of some his predecessors made everything u might hold wrong against the church based on those deeds meaningless.
Again it seems u really badly want me to stop being a catholic that is why u labelled me a patriotic catholic as if that is now a crime.
Did u say that the catholic church is hiding something? You are not alone there. Somebody even listed some 'very bad' events in the history of catholic church in this forum and concluded that those things proved that catholic church is a cult. But before that, he said that the source of his write up came from the vatican website itself. I almost laughed after that. But immediately, one non catholic in this forum pointed it out to him that if the church is a cult, why would it leave those things for him to see them. Afterall its a cult.
Tone down the sarcasm in your post. we are all tempted to sound unlike us in this foum. If u put your questions correctly, I might see them as if it is just a question and come back at you. When you attack, I go on my sabbatical,

wellborn will continue to amaze you cos he's telling u what you wanted to hear. I wonder why people will always look for 'facts' from other people's quotations or write ups. You can as well write your own things and post it on your website or publish it; people will quote you oneday. But does that necessarily mean you are making sense or that your arguments are sound? I doubt it.

To start treating wellborn's posts word for word like 4getme is urging me to do is not wise because the cycle will continue and my advise to catholics will look like I was just saying what i said because i fell like posting.

These people will always find a way of proving you right withouth knowing it. The only point they picked in my post is where they said i called them hypocrites but still (sadly though) they are proving me right. They cannot even prove that those points on which I based my calling them that is false. Is it the word that is too harsh? For example, what difference does it make calling a robber a robber and calling him a person who takes people's things by force.

All the same, my thread is not supposed to result in the massive arguments it created but in a forum of intelligent people like nairaland one can never rule out such things here.

I will also advise those that point to abuse in the US catholic diocese to stop being childish. Is it the church in America that did those things or individuals or did the church support what they did. More gruesome acts is going on in other churches elsewhere but these churches are too insignificant for such publicities.
And who said Peter is not the first Pope? do you need the complete list?

In this forum and many other places, catholics have come under attacks from people of other denominations crictisizing or questioning several doctrines and practises of the catholic church. This is not new and its is not also strange.The question is why will they always be doing this. what do they plan to achieve and I have the answer to that; they want to justify breaking away or in some cases to try to add more members to their congregation. These attacks normally come in the guise of an innocent question coated with sarcasm. Trying to answer such questions will always lead one to arguments with them which is what they really wanted. My advise to all true and strong catholics is to try as much as possible to avoid these arguments.

Remember, they will stir you with the statement that something, is not biblical. They have forgotten that the bible itself came from catholicism. Also they cannot in clear terms tell us why the bible must dictate every thing that we do in this world. The people that wrote the new testament had no idea that they were writing the bible and it was catholic church that put all of it together because of the holy spirit inspiration that guided the writers. Yet the writers did not in any terms command us that after them, the bible will be the only thing that will guide us. Christ's instruction to the apostles that whatever they bind on earth is bound in heaven is the driving force behind many catholic doctrines. Also, happened to the holy spirit he promised that will be with them after he had gone. Yes, Bible is inspirational and is supposed to be used as our guide to to pious life in christ which is all meant to lead us to christ. So i am not saying that the bible is not necessary. Infact its is crucial to every christian's salvation. So fellow catholics i urge you to pick up your bible once again or buy a new one if you don't have any.

Even the bible said it that in the latter days, many misinterpretaion of the bible will surface. Most times, these protestants will overlook some practices in their own church which is unbiblical. For instance they have not been able to answer convincingly a question in the thread before this one where the author asked why christians worship on sunday instead of saturday. Yet there is no place in the bible old or new testament where we were commanded to change the day of worship to sunday. Even christ himself worshipped on saturdays. Events that took place after christ's death necessitated that christians worship on sundays. Most of them also neglect the directions that people will dress decenly in the house of God. Their ladies wear anything they like to church and they will tell you that it is outward and that it is only what is in the heart that matters. They ordain women pastors but there was an instruction against it.

These are just but few and im not writing this to start another argument. I only want to call on catholics to avoid these arguments. the bible itself condemned involving in protracted arguments like that. The catholic church is far above all of the arguments and the people who initiate them. But the church is not arguing with anybody. The breakout of denominations started with wrong interpretaion of the bible. The have church spent so much resourses in finding out the real interpretation of the bible and many other events not recorded in the Bible. These protestants often argue with their knowledge of the English bible but the church have in the past trained people to learn the original tongue with which the bible was written and also understand the various dialects of the writters and these languages/dialects are extinct today yet the catholic church have people that can speak and understand them.

These people tend to be hypocritical sometimes. They will condemn you instantly for thinking that a pastor's healing power might be fake but they will also say that Mary is just a vessel that brought forth Jesus Christ. They say that Mary is only addressed as Mother of the Lord and not God. Did Lord make her less dignified? If a holy spirit filled Elizabeth honored her, who are these protestants.

So brethren I urge you to avoid these arguments.What you should focus on is to live your life in a way that will further propel the gospel of the Lord. You should understand u cannot convince annybody with arguments. The arguments cannot stop, it started centuries ago. And even when u seem to be making your point theres always another thing they will say to diusregart them. No matter the length and the soundness. Have you seen anyone converted with argument. The answer is no. Your life and attitude speaks louder than any public address system. No matter how many times they claim to be born, you as a baptised and practising catholic is in the Lord. You profess in the Lord everyday you attend mass. Pray for the protestants too and never condemn them as there are many of them that will be going to heaven with good ones amongst us.

it all goes back to the definition of born again which the thread owner tried to list. At the end he unconciously proved that catholics believe in being born again.

This issue of born again always come up as if it is the the only way that Christ told us will lead to heaven. Born again is just a state of mind and not a society of people who are going to heaven. Thats what these protestants are made to believe.

Your continued use of catholic Bible is rather funny because it simply demonstrates that you lack the knowledge of history of christianity. Who made your Bible what it is? CATHOLICS! Believe it or not Chriatianity started as Catholicism before factions started emerging due to misinterpretations of the Bible. Jackie is trying to put this forward but in a rather harsh way.

The end product of Bible misinterpretations is Protestantism which you and many other christians today belong to.

Idolatory is different from use of images in worship. Idolater is worshiping his/her symbol but a catholic praying or celebrating mass infront of a crucifix is not worshiping the wooden crucifix but who it represents. You can argue against this till next year.

The cherubs being referred to in the ark were they not heavenly beings too but God gave that specifications because it doesnt annoy him.

When protestents argue about the Bible as if it is their own God sent gift it makes me laugh. Was it not Catholics that compiled all the books of the NT and made it joined it to the SCRIPTURES to make today's bible. Catholicism took its root from the apostles after Christ's Asscencion. Before that He prayed that his followers be one. But what happened.

Protestants can say that we worship idols or do many other things which they say is unbiblical because they want to achieve one objective -- to get larger congregation which is equal to more profit. Catholic church has gone beyond that stage. The church is only looking to converting non christians and directing her followers to the way of Christ period.

I will advise any catholic who really want to make stay focussed in worshiping God to avoid arguments like this because that is what protestants are always looking forward to.

I am one of the people that MTN activated their phone early when the  on-going test of their WAP?GPRS started. ALL the while, my phone can only browse webpages but can't check email or chat. I think it has to do with the browser mtn is  using.
The good news is that I got a site where I downloaded software that I now use in checking and sending email and also for chatting in yahoo messenger and MSN messenger. If you are using your phone go to:

my phone nokia 3100 is connected to mtn gprs and I browse with it everyday since august 2005. But as u might know the phone has no infra red or bluetooth. My question is whether I can connect this phone with its PC cable to my PC and browse with it.
