Pardon my ignorance. Is it illegal to form a religious sect? Is it a crime because they preach contrary to Islam? How is that a crime, somebody should educate me. I thought the "sect" becomes illegal only if the preach illegalities and commit crimes.
Can someone please help me draw the line between what is religious tolerance and nipping illegality in the bud.
Maybe if Catholics had been making such laws, there wouldn't be something called Pentecostalism today. |

Once the rebelliousness runs its course...she would be back. They always come back. Whatever it is that tells you that should also tell you that it is the simple and right thing to do. Even if the girl keeps running back to her, he should keep returning her to the parents or if he is not ready to be doing that, he should report to the police who should now get the mom to keep her daughter or take her away from her if she can't hold her. It is NEVER an option to keep a minor because something tells you she will come running back. |

Crime › Re: Ifesinachi Ani kidnapped In Abuja And Converted To Islam by biggjoe(m): 7:35pm On Mar 13, 2016 |
Quakertellicus1: I agree with you.
The thing is, a teenager is a very impressionable person.
It seems that the girl was already in a rebellious state against her mother LONG before the whole thing started. The mom is not telling us the whole story.
One thing about this story is that in Nigeria, we tend to treat teenagers as little children. Yes, they are not yet adults, but they are not the nice little 8 year old who used to say she loves mummy with all her heart.
In my opinion, many Nigerian parents do not get their mind prepared for the teenage life.Something tells me the girl was already in rebellion against her mother. Things are made difficult with the absence of a dad. A dad is a very important part of a girl's life as a rolemodel, and as her first impression of males.(I remember 10 years ago, a preacher at my church saying that if you do not tell your teenage daughter she is beautiful as a father...she would go and find someone who will).
Also,it isn't the mother's fault entirely. As a teenager myself once upon a time,I was a rebellious person inside. Yes...I was obedient on the outside, but inside....I wanted to live as an ''adult'' . Thank God, I at least get sense small....and in a way realized that this was a stage where I was being prepared for adulthood.
The girl was not abducted. She chose to leave of her own free will. In my opinion, she should return back to her parent's house. But something tells me that if she is forced , it wont end well.
So...let the mother leave her. In due time, she would return home to her mother's house when the rebellion has run its course.
And instead of making silly allegations of Northerners abducting teenage girls....let us use this as a time to talk about how we bring upteens. And let us pass a law at the National Assembly making it illegal to convert minors. The tragedy of your comments is that you failed to realize that it is a crime to allow a "rebellious" minor who "followed" you to your house to continue living with you without the consent of the parents. How is that such a big thing for people to understand. You can blame the parents all you want but if the Islamic teacher returned her to her mother when she "followed" him, no one would be reading this story now. |

asuustrike2009: It is not nationwide as some states aren't affected Every state is affected. The government already acknowledged drop in electricity generation and they attributed it to pipeline vandalization. Even if by some stroke of miracle power supply in your area did not drop, majority of the country is feeling the heat - literally. Stop making excuses for people who already admitted failure. |

OP, statement like yours is what keep getting Islam caught up on this kind of issue. People who added religious coloration to the Ese/Yunusa saga did so because an Islamic institution sanctioned it. And the tragedy here is that this is not just one off situation. There are number of such scenario that played out in the past and the same Islamic institutions played active roles. If Yunusa brought Ese to Kano and nobody tried to convert her and she was promptly sent back to bayelsa, I bet that no one will dare open his mouth to mention Islam on this issue. Come on, Yunusa is not the first Muslim that committed crime in this country and nobody cared to ask about his/her religion. Nigerians label politicians from across all religions as thieves and no one has mentioned their religion. Comparing Ese/Yunusa case with Ikorodu abductions will simply tell any rational mind that you covertly support Yunusa. Ikorodu kidnappers committed a crime people from across all religions commit and no Christian institution sanctioned what they did so it is pure hypocrisy and deceit and self denial to try to compare the two. |

arbass: No it's not a flawed advice. You can shift into "Neutral" without applying the brake. Try it out one of these days. You could even shift to other drives; D2, L etc. without brake provided the car is moving already. Very naive of me then. Never tried it before. I have been driving only one car since 2009 and strangely enough, I never had cause to try that. So what happens when a rookie mistakenly engages reverse while speeding. |

I did not pay you because you did not respond to my demand which is submitting your resignation letter. So if you are ready for us to settle, you let me know. But if you want to take it further, I am ready to answer you where ever you call me. If you actually acknowledge that you owe him at all, just pay him. Why have so many Christians become so bitter about a Muslim president who practises his religion. The country was not set on fire when GEJ was frequenting Isreal to pray for deliverance and doing the bidding of CAN Throwing insults, tantrums, conjectures and sentiments around will make you appear intelligent to people who share your opinion. They cannot trash out simple issues logically. Who and who has resolved to stopping the President from stopping the menace and how exactly are they doing it. Who conducted the census that told you that so many Christians are bitter. Arguments on Internet can not probably be won but one can convince a neutral party be sticking purely to sound logic. |

LucifersTongue: This is what boggles me!!! How can we have Sharia courts in the North and also have a secular constitution that recognizes freedom of association, religion, expression etc? Do they judge over all Nigerians in the State or just Muslims? what is their rank in the judiciary? directly under the Supreme court? How did Sharia courts in Nigeria even come about? Who are the stupid f00ls in power that allowed this unconstitutional court in Nigeria? Why didn't the northerners (and every other Nigerian) kick against it when it was set up?
many questions... I would really love people who know Naija history to educate me on this topic! Less than 20 years ago, in 2002 precisely, Olusegun Obasanjo who is the President of Nigeria was arm twisted into allowing some northern states starting from Zamfara into implementing Sharia law. Nigerians protested but it was to no avail. They claimed it was their right and even assured non Muslims that they have nothing to fear as Sharia law is not applicable to them. Look how that has turned out. It is important to also note here that our current President was contesting for presidency back then and he assured Moslems that Sharia law is their right and he is going to fight for its total implementation. Did I answer your questions? |
