Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Official Thread of Free-To-Air Satellite TV (Part 1) by biggjoe(op): 8:24pm On Oct 07, 2008
@Enigma,
I have learnt never to say never. However, I have found it very difficult to believe that a geosynchronous satellite will adjust its beam because downlink stations have increased.

Now,
Before the debate is thrown out of context, let me point out again that what Badaru was said to have suggested was that multiple dishes pointing to a particular satellite will increase the signal beamed to a particular area and NOT that pointing many dishes at a satellite will increase the signal coming from the satellite. I did it a course in the uni. on satellite transmission and in fact on all microwave frequencies.

I will find it much easier to believe that the signal strength  might increase because of high demand from down link stations. The satellite makers can make provisions for that; and not that the signal that has been naturally weak at a particular area (because the area is off the footprint) will increase.

However, with all my assumptions, I cannot say its impossible. Oyibo is always  redefining that word, impossible.

turn out Badaru's theory of "Multiple Dishes Pointing to Same Satellite for Higher Gain" is actually correct. someone should give him a national award.
I was about to say I did not subscribe to that Idea. How did you prove it.

F_Marshal:
Tape a string from the 12 o'clock position to the 6 o' clock position. Again, Tape another string from the 9 o' clock to the 3 o' clock position. If the string touches together at the center, the dish is not warped. On the other hand, if there is a gap at where the two strings meet, the dish is warped. cool

Gansta101 mai brother!!! that na pratical o! grin cheesy Seriously, the method is practical and it works. wink
I know it will work but the reservations I'm referring to is: how do you accurately pin point 12 o' clock and 6 o'clock and all the other positions on the dish? Its easy to inspect with bare eyes and point at a particular point. But without equipments (which I doubt if theres any), your chosen 12 o'clock position might end up being 2 minutes past 12 o'clock and if we have to be accurate here, as I believe we must have to, a single minute off the correct point has rendered the whole test useless.
Back in school we did something like that on engineering drawing but the thing is that you are working on a flat surface with protractor and others which can easily divide a circle into any number of segments you wish to.

@Gangsta101
I'm not discouraging you from doing the test but rather I'm actually asking you to be careful in tracing your points.

@ Enitan2002/Badaru and Ola,

We de hail una. You guys are taking this FTA thing to another level.

Keep your nilesat explorations going until you come down to the East here.

Thats why I have reservations about the thread test thing.  Even though F Marshal suggested it and by theory I believe its ok, but I havent done it myself nor seen anyone do it before.
Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Official Thread of Free-To-Air Satellite TV (Part 1) by biggjoe(op): 11:08am On Sep 30, 2008
@olofofo
your response to that UK visa issue is the funniest post I have seen  on this Forum recently. Its ok too that you offered some help in the end.

I agree with F-marshal  concerning the loss of signal issue that might be coming from the dish. Its most likely to be the edges of the dish.

I remember quite well how badly a little 'touching' I did with my 90cm dish in my early days on FTA affected the signal. It took me days then to realize that a little unnoticeable  bend on any part of the dish can result in a complete loss of signal.
The 'thread test' might help as well if you can get the threads to be on the right points on the circumference of the dish.

Enitan2002,

The whole thing is quite unfortunate and I know how u feel about it all.
I dont believe its time to start apportioning blames. the moderator has come in and done that in the mature way he has been doing lately. Anyone that is adding anything to what he said is only trying to stir up the mud water again.

I dont agree that there is a mafia on this thread because I wonder what they will be gaining from it. Anyone's opinion might just be his and just his alone.

I happen to meet one very controversial member of this thread lately and come to realize that the controversy he is creating is just for fun.

@all,

Good People of FTA. I hail una once again.
If anyone is wondering, I haven't left this thread. I cant even leave it even if I wanted to. Thats because, even though I no longer contribute much I still get this exciting feeling when I think about how popular it has become. Why then will I leave.

So people, lets keep the love going.

I believe it still brings people from all over the country together. You can make friends from places you never imagined and experience things you never knew existed before.

I created this forum:   http://www.excorpers.com/forums/   for Ex Corps members. Former members can go there to meet again after their  NYSC experience.

ukukaegbu:
Much as I have tried, I find it hard to believe this story in its entirety. How can a man fight armed robbers to the extent of smashing his car windscreen?.
if you don't believe that story, what about this one.

It happened in Onitsha. Two robbers approched a middle aged lady, about 40 years with their bike (a very common style or robbery in Onitsha) one of them got down from the bike and asked her to hand over her phone which she just finished making a call with. Out of whatever spirit that came into her, the lady angrily snatched the pistol from the guy and threw it into a light shrub on that pathway and asked the guy if a small boy like him is not afraid to point gun at her. Without thinking, the robbers who could not stand or believe that kind of surprise mounted their bike and sped away without even looking back.

People then rushed closer to see that kind of superwoman only to realize that the lady did not even know what she did and she was in shock at that point.
Could you believe that when one mechanic guy checked the gun, it fully was loaded.

It is not just another story. Believe it if you like.

I dont think Channel O is completely out. It keeps coming on and off. However, its no longer on the frequency it came on.

Whenever it comes back, it replaces Magic World until it goes again.

@Enigma,

Welcome back, your absence is very obvious on this thread.

I quite agree with nwabunia,
DSTV is wasting their time if they are planning to lure us to their bouquet by leaving these channels unencrypted.

We have always known how their services are and we also know how dear they are. Some of us even combine dstv with FTA. I really dont think that strategy will work.

But, Could it be that their encryption process has gone wrong?

Whatever it is, we are enjoying these chanels while they are available, without any thanks im sure.

call it SWAT or what ever, why do u guys think Nigeria can't have it.
Have we all forgotten about Sgt. Rogers in a Hurry? Have we how good his shots are with common FM riffle or even AK-47 which can only travel 700 metres? Have we forgotten what a great paratropper he is?He is just one of them.

Probably because many policemen collect N20 on the roads with tattered uniform, thats why everyone believes NPF is all childs play. The government spend a lot of money training men in the force every year but we don't see these men on our roads. You have to come close enough to them to know all these. I have been close enough to the Nigerian army to know that they have very sophisticated amphibious team that can fight in the sea. I know how much time the Guards soldiers (who I have been with during NYSC) spend in their shooting range.

I wonder why people was wondering why the husband did not pay the ransom. Its common sense to know that it is the police that made him not to pay. While keeping the kidnappers in contact which probably led to tracking them down. The morons are taking calls with mobile and like many guys on this thread, they did not believe that The police can track one with cellphone signals and thats how  they met their death.

Now somebody is telling me that Naija policeman or soldier will not risk  his/her life to free a nobody. The fact is that they don't have much choice, they have to obey orders. Such operation are rewarded with promotion when succesful. If you reason fine again you will realize that it is never all safe haven if you are in the force because even on that 'safe' road in Lagos or Abuja where a policeman will be collecting N20, an armed robber can just gun him down just to take his Ak-47.

Now has anyone wondered how it is policemen and not pastors that were able to invade the dreaded Okija Shrine which have killed many, they destroed everything there.

The Police have so many divisions that we might not all know about.

Just take it or leave it.

@ enitan2002
your setup looks ingenious. However, that UPS is the only one that is not enjoying the whole thing. The decoder will not pose much threat but TV requires a lot of current on start up. The battery is about 2k but you can rarely get a good new one. If you kill that UPS, then you will need close 60% of money you need to get a 'Tiger' generator. What do you think.

@toxnaija
you have said it all. it often gets to ones nerve when people cannot do simple reading of posts on this thread. Asking questions on treated issues makes the whole thing boring. I have once suggested that people who have limited internet access time should just use the 'print' button on top of the page to take all the posts in one page so they can read offline. I am not sure its only about limited internet time. Just look up and you will notice that someone has been phrasing and rephrasing the same already treated issue. Many people just dont like to read.
Newbies should try and learn how to use sites like lyngsat. When they do, that will be the begining of their 'guruship.

The list of items you listed for onye ngbu is quite complete, you almost left out an important one but im happy you included it towards the end.

As for your question, I live in Awka, Anambra. I think I should include that in my profile.

@All,
After going through the post onye ngbu and then the reply from the house and particularly tox, and  all the following posts; I came to the conclusion that in a weird way, that unfortunate post have added some new spirit into the forum. The forum has been rather quiet for quite some time but I think that the post spiced it up a bit.  grin   grin

I sincerely hope that it has all ended. Lets urge onengbu to come up and join us fully in this FTA world. You never know, he might have some new thing to add here. It looks like she will.

@toxnaija,
I am not loosing interest in this forum. Not at all my guy. Its just that my new schedule have not been very kind with time recently. I found it hard to play with FTA like I do before this thread. But all that is going to change soon. I have learnt  much more than I know prior to this thread from you guys.
The greatest thing about this thread is that it  makes a guru out of anyone that visits here regularly. And i wont just leave all that and walk away.
I'm still with you guys.
Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Official Thread of Free-To-Air Satellite TV (Part 1) by biggjoe(op): 3:02pm On Aug 09, 2008
@ Memento,

If anything will truly come out of that agreement, theres no way the broadcasts will be free like you hoped. Theres always a price to pay for every good thing.
People in South Africa for example pay their TV license. If you own a TV set that can pick TV signals then you must pay your TV license. Failure to pay comes with serious consequences like jail term. I think that helps them in  giving their people quality TV programming.
Thats why they have been enjoying digital TV programming in MPEG2 format for many years now.

If u get the C-band  frequencies on 68.50 from the link F-Marshal gave u, another crucial thing you will need is a C-band LNB asumming you don't have one.
You are picking MYTV with Ku LNB.

lisa1199,
I wonder what that post is doing here.

@toxnaija,
In my own point of view, I don't think grammar matters much in this kind of thread. The important thing is that everyone understands everyone.
You said you believe that all posters should be learned enough to use good grammar. I'm afraid that might not be the case here. Remember that this thread is technical in nature and I believe it will attract visitors who didnt go far in education.
Mentioning names of bad posters will only result to bitter confrontations which will not be good for this thread. I believe that this thread has the best friendly spirit on this forum. Why dont we keep it up.

Thats the way I see it any way.
PoliticsRe: To Hell With Your Oil, North Tells South by biggjoe(m): 2:34pm On Aug 04, 2008
By geographical definition of southern Nigeria, I believe every southern region (south south, south east and south west) has oil. But it is not every state in this region.

As it is not every state in this region that has oil, I believe it will still come to a point where if u come to the west for instance, Ondo will call other western states Parasites and in the east, Imo and Abia (and Anambra?) will call other Easterners Parasites.

My point Is: None of our economic woes will end with North's seccesion. I am begining to believe in this thing called oil curse.

Let me advise this Nigeria 1, to stop all his UN and nautical mile lectures, he is sounding like hes out from the '50s.

The gurus that post on this thread go through so much to give out free informations they give out on this thread. It is sad then that some people who have never supplied any simple contribution here only see the forum as an open market where they can sell their goods and services tax free.
