Nice video though. Thumbs up!!!! I watched it to the end. Most Igbo harmless and colorful cultures are dead due to churches, just like the Igbo language is dying out slowly. Only the Catholic church embraces culture of their communities and still have Igbo mass sessions. Yorubas revere and respect their culture more, that's why even their traditional prayers/ curses like "die by fire" are now popular phrases in Pentecostal churches.... ![]() |
Nuzo1:Only the Catholic church openly embraces and incorporates cultures of the communities where they exist. Most other churches in Nigeria preach against, disdain, attack and even try to destroy them. It's ignorance and the wide-spread colonial mentality in Africa. Many harmless and colorful Igbo cultures are dead bc of churches. Nice video though. Thumbs up!!!! |
I don't trust Nigerian Bloggers!!!! Since I found out that almost 80% of stories carried in Nigerian blogs are either fabricated or tainted to drive traffic to their sites to make money, I am very careful rushing to judgement. Cut and join stories, stories mixed-match with unrelated pictures, Posting pictures that happened in other parts of the world and several years ago and writing " happening at Aba of Iyana in Nigeria this morning".....Pheeew!!! Now I don't know whether to believe this one or not. We are now a country that thrives on lies in all sectors - media, business, politics, even religion. Amazing! This too may be true or not...how can i tell? |
The day some Nigerian youths will learn how to work for their own success and stop building a dream on other people's efforts is the day Nigeria will be on right track. Till then...... |
CoolFreeday:Not really sir. It's a great dialogue to have because something prompted the question. Remember the thread on NL sometime ago, where someone alluded that all RCCG's top rank officers are Yorubas alluding that it's a Yoruba church. Thank God someone came on the thread and shed more light why it seemed like that because the church started in South West before it spread to East. So most older (Senior) pastors who joined the church far back can't just be shoved aside to make room for those who came on board much later That was a great insight perhaps to end the grudges many people might have been having. Always use any opportunity to explain something to people who don't understand rather than dismiss them as mischief-makers. That's not a good leadership style. |
Paulpaulpaul:Thanks. But cost is not the reason why some pastors burn them. Is it? Perhaps you are right on "..sell your culture.." part. I saw the very harsh criticisms on a NL post when a Catholic Reverend Father worshiped with those traditional Igbo instruments during a church service and even danced to the beats. I guess the harshest criticisms came from Christians who dance to talking drum praise by Winners, RCCG, etc. |
Please help me understand this: Why are Yoruba talking drums (Dundun, Gangan) now popular acceptable musical instruments along with other Yoruba traditional musical instruments, in most Pentecostal churches especially Winners and RCCG, such that even Yoruba traditional 'Apala' music is now trending in some of those churches, however, Igbo traditional musical instruments such as the big hollow wooden gong (Ikoro) and popular wooden flute (oja) are treated as satanic, and even burnt by pastors in some occasions? Any explanation for this double standard by Pentecostal churches?

Nice Looks!! But I pray that we all have real live friends so we can avoid seeking too much attention on social media. Research shows that most people who share and post a lot of personal stories and updates on social media are lonely, often depressed/ unhappy, and seek attention. It's not a lifestyle anyone should pray for. Pray for eternal joy and fulfillment. Pray for me too. Dear God, don't let me have only social media friends/lovers and none in real life. Please heal the soul of the hurting. Even as our sister Tonto has sought your hand in her life, please forgive her past and draw her nearer unto thee. She deserves to be happy. Everyone deserves to be happy. |
Congrats to you bro. But honestly I don't know how this is news. More than half Nigerian nurses in the US own this or something better. Cars are necessities abroad even for high school students. Without them you cannot go to work. Please can we start promoting better values on Nairaland for the sake of our youths in Nigeria? We complain about JSS student begging his teachers for sex, young men killing friends for money rituals, 14 yr olds raping littles girls but the type of news that make frontpage on Nairaland each day is enough to put a sane mind in Nigeria under pressure to get rich at all cost. Please use this platform for a positive crusade and Allah will prosper you more |
That shows the difference between Nigerians and the rest of the world. - In Nigeria we condone, cheer and protect crime, while in other countries they abhor and punish it. It marvels me how typical so-called modern 'Christians' are so complacent about the so-called 'sin' they preach against. In their own bible, sin is meant for poor people only; if you are rich and popular, you can buy your way to their own haven. While this is still an allegation, and the said pastor might be innocent, my post is about people who support and cheer crime and not about the said pastor. I don't know him and don't know if the allegation is true or not. I only pray for justice to prevail. |
So if you don't add that word "Expensive" hotel what will happen? Nigerians and bragging. Mtecheeeeew! U just messed up the news. have you Googled the cost of hotels around the world and notice that Abuja, Nigeria has some of the most expensive rates in the world, and Nigerians sleep there like it's their Boys' Quarters? |
symbianDON:That's what the man told reporters and that's what they wrote. Did you hear any comment from the woman or see any video where these comments were made? Even in Nigeria when you catch a maid with oga's looted money, doesn't the oga say the money belongs to the maid? to exonerate himself? Isn't the maid arrested? Do you ever hear the maid's own account?.... Nigerians should learn how to use their intuition to solve matters...God gave it to them for a reason. |
Africa and Witch mentality SMH!...Maybe the man's mistress who was sneaked into the house the previous day to deflate attention. Perhaps they thought the wife would go out, or go to work but she didn't. I have seen and heard of several cases like this where a mistress was hidden under the bed for days waiting for a wife to leave so she could escape. Women when you come home and your husband is alone, screen your house, even under beds. |
Why does Bash Ali have problems with every Minister of Sports? Just wondering why he's always beaten up by every Govt.... Video: Bash Ali also beaten up in 2013: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aJCgDr6YHJE |
What do you expect? Begging on Social media is the new front for celebrity packaging....very soon people will start begging money to buy guuf (igbbo) for an addicted neighbor. |
When some people said Africans cannot lead themselves we shouted "racism". How come we always have this kind of situations since 1960? How much progress have we made? Even some GRA's abandoned by the colonial masters in the 60's remained the best part to live in in some state till date. |
But it amazes me how some naija ladies could just do anything just to get money rather than use their brains |
But Misappropriation is when you apply funds approved for one thing on another thing, while embezzlement is when you squander the fund on yourself. Both are punishable crimes! A Bureaucrat should know better. In governance you cannot use funds approved for a baby's milk to buy medicine for her sick mom, even though both are necessary. You have to go back and apply for funds for the medicine. |
Stealing and Corruption!! Isn't that how they buy the cars they display on social media that most of you are hailing and cheering? Everybody wants to be rich at all cost even if it means chopping heads off, raping their own daughters, or robbing others because they know in Nigeria, once you have money people will worship you, easy women will line up for you, you will get titles from churches and towns. The world has lost sympathy for Nigerians and we are so proud of what we do? |
Inside job!! Crime most time is an inside job otherwise who knew you were coming back? who knew you were not coming back from Zimbabwe without a dime? who knew you were coming from USA? who was that mean-hearted person that encouraged you to leave airport by 2am? go back and check your face book posts, your Instagram posts, those you texted, called and hailed that you were coming by fire by force.etc (i have almost done the investigation} Ya all beware of FB posts and brags - kidnappers and robbers are following too. Thank God for your life. It's not your time yet. |
Doesn't this show that most things we call 'Spiritual' and blame Witches, Wizards, some call God others call Devil in Nigeria have explanations? Our People are either too religious or too lazy to research or seek for answers. We see a deranged person inside a gutter we scream 'Witch' and fling out camera phones to record. If we see anything we can't explain based on our very very limited knowledge, we jump and scream Devil or God, type prayers attach and forward to everyone to type 'Amen' or click 'like'. We see stray dog inside compound, aaaaah na somebody grandma be that, even ordinary Lizard comes inside a house...haaaaa! na our neighbor wey come to steal our MMM profits... we don call pastors be dat..We are lazy oooooo, ghaaaaan! that's why oyibo dey milk us like cow, but for our mind we think we are smart and hard-working. ![]() Thank God the truth is out on this matter. But will that stop religious people from burning another 'Witch' tomorrow? - Naaa! |
This may look extraordinary but honestly the heart of most people you deal with and date (even some people commenting on this post) are like that. If you doubt me have you seen two former lovers quarrel and see what they do to each other? My friend once said "once you notice that someone you are dating is either mean or disrespectful to others even if he/she is treating you well, just dump the person. The demon inside him/her will show up on you one day". One time at Aba a lady poisoned wedding rice so that every body would die because the man dumped her and married another lady. I don't like Angry people!!!! |
All I could get from your post is that Nigerians are wicked abi including the thieves who stabbed, the passers by (xtians and muslims going to fellowship who didn't want to be late) who refuse to help, Drivers who refused to carry him nurses who joked he was dead, hospitals that refused to treat him, and the society that produced him ?.....there you go. This account is home-grown and not from Nigerians abroad o! |
When was the last time you heard a governor or public officer in the US or UK receiving award as the best-performing this or that? their work speaks for them. I am not undermining Ambode's achievements. But i also think it's high time our serving public officers face their work and deliver on their campaign promises. This excessive attention to awards and chieftaincy titles should be embarrassing to a man who has no time for frivolities. It's for people who have all the lazy time in the world to listen to praises. Contract and appointment seekers should allow Ambode focus. The best investment a Nigerian Government can make is to empower it's people to create local employment and not to spend $20mil on events to attract so-called foreign investors who end up shipping $2mil goods to Nigeria at 600% profit for their country. what type of investment is that? |
But they belong to a church where pastors have private jets and preach reward in heaven when they die abi? Churches in US have soup kitchens for poor people like this. You see why the most religious countries/people in the world are the poorest. Now it will take Atheists and so-called 'unbelievers' to help them feed. Why are stories of 'miracle's like this not used as testimonies in Nigerian churches? Please I suggest let her church pastor know first before NL. I am not being harsh but we need to start calling people out in that country |
There has been many sayings such as “A father is her daughter’s first true love”. The bond between a father and his daughter (aka his little princess) can be so deep especially when she’s an only daughter. It could go from a healthy deep affection to a moderate protectiveness, to an outright jealousy and over-protection. For most men, you don’t mess with their ‘little girl’, some over-do it and some don’t know when to stop. But when can it be said that this bond is going too far especially as the daughter turns into a teenager? 1. Can a teenage daughter still dress in undies before her dad? 2. Can she still give a mouth-to-mouth lip kiss to her dad? 3. Can she ask dad to help her adjust her bra while dressing up? 4. Can she lift her skirt to show dad a burn high-up on her thighs? 5. Can she show dad a suspicious growth on her brea*sts? 6. Can she tell dad her close, near-se*x experiences with aggressive men? 7. Is there a time to start scolding her for these? 7. Or should all this be left for mom to handle? Experience Fathers in the house, do you still feel comfortable with this with your little ‘teen princess’? How do you handle it? Abeg share your experience and teach us newbies…. NOTE: Assumption here is that it’s a two-parent household and there exists a healthy father-daughter relationship, and daughter is now a non-sexually active teenager. |
VolTOxic:some hotels are like $55 to $70 a night. That's not comfort, that's convenience or rather sacrifice. Even minimum wage workers can afford that if they wish to, because people don't go to hotels every day. There are many middle income families struggling to survive in the US because they are the same educated class who have huge loans. Surprisingly, the low-income earners don't struggle much because their expectations and lifestyle are quite modest. Most of them also have no huge school and mortgage loans, while relying on WIC and food stamps for feeding. Some use bus services and have no car notes, car insurance/repair costs. But I understand your point...that they can always work something out if they want to in the same resilient American spirit. |
VolTOxic:Money is factor, dear. If minimum wage is $10 per hour. 8 hrs job a day is $80, a month multiply by 20days = $1,600, minus tax, insurance premium, IRA, etc you get about $1,100. An average townhouse is the East cost is about $1,400 a month, monthly daycare for kids is on the average of $1000 per child. If you hire a live in Nanny, you will provide her with health insurance benefits and still pay her about $600 a month. You never add utilities like power, gas, water, cable, insurances on cars, parking fees, school loans, car notes, credit cards, feeding, clothing, baby supplies, house supplies, tithe, offering, repairs, police tickets, flowers and chocolates for angry wife etc and still have to worry about getting ur azss divorced if you ever raise your voice to complain out of frustration ...... You won't understand what a couple pass through here! That little bed time may be the only time they ever get to unwind |
VolTOxic:They live in the US. taking care of kids means a woman either quitting her job or hiring a paid babysitter which is quite expensive in the US...even daycare is not akara money. 1 month bill on looking after kids can buy land in naija.... . Obviously the wifey wants her hubby to foot those bills if he wants her continued 'bedroom services'. But guyman doesn't have that type of money now. these are struggling beginners in life. dem neva arrive yet. Though I am not siding with the man over the wife. just an insight to help with suggestions. |
Mother-in-law came visited from Africa to help babysit 6months old baby. Couple came back from a wedding feeling very horney, kissed their 2 kids goodnight and locked bedroom door. House is a typical US 2-level town house with no basement. All bedrooms are on the upper-level and parlor, dinning and kitchen, etc on lower level. Time was after 11pm. Guy was banging his wife real hard, the sound and her moaning/ groaning could be heard outside the bedroom. Mother-in-law (her mother), apparently, irked by the sound of the hard bang on her own pampered daughter banged on the bedroom door shouting “Please your children are still awake”. Couple managed to finish the round. But problem has ensued now. Wifey wants her mother to return back to Africa ASAP. Husband insists she won’t return because she is very helpful with the kids, saving them a lot of money. Now young beautiful wife has gone on se**x strike – don’t touch, don’t ask. Husband is in a dilemma as it’s summer, beautiful wife knows how to dress sexy in summer in those soft tight dresses and skirts but nothing for him. Wife is very conservative and moderately religious and has never made love in a hotel before..doesn't want that. Elder wise men and women of NL, oya this one don pass guy-man. iyanga dey sleep, trouble go wake am. |
saxwizard:obviously u no dey go church, or perhaps u dey wear sunshade inside church abi? otherwise why u dey pretend say u no dey see am for sundays? . for statisticians 'observation' no be 'survey' o, bro. it's a type of information gathering method on it's own |
