thesilentone: RabbiDOracle, the UK Chancellor has just guaranteed £50k loans for small businesses with no interests or capital repayments due for the 1st year - folks are about to be awash with money. I can't see a reason why some of these won't end up in the NSE. Somebody's interpretation is free £50k for at least the first year that the right opportunities in the NSE might bring. Oh boy! They have increased the ante. The offers plenty oooo. Lots of 0% 36mths money offers from credit card companies. Timing and utilisation are the koko. |

Bomboclad: On point!
To be fair to Sterling Bank, no dividend was paid last year, and the bank did better than last year in terms of PAT. From your observation wrt JBerger, it is clear that market sentiments is more important than value in today's market; else, Transcorpse wouldn't be where it is, same as HoneyFlour and many others. I pity those here! 8% payout ratio all in the name of dividend. |

What will be the impact on current shareholdings? Is it a good move or otherwise? I'm sure this thread is in place for learning, not just scaremongering or optimism.

rebekah2011: I agree that there is no relationship but with the economic indices pointing to challenges ahead. How are we certain that the banks will be able to make the same earnings as they did last year? The quality of those earnings too. If this continues till the end of Q2, we may be witnessing the decline in banks profitability. Banks do not exist in isolation. I am inclined to agree with you. It will be prudent to discount FY2019 by at least 40% to inform FY2020 expectations |

Dangote cement as well.
More falls still possible.
The move in the US futures (rise) and world markets today is due to Trump announcing cuts in salary taxes. This is a small breather but it won't fly.
Once markets start testing 2% fall.... Then 3% fall.... Then 5% fall.... Then 7% fall.... The next one will be scattering. weren't those prices at $20ish/barrell of Brent? are we heading to $20/barrel |
