Family / Re: After 37yrs In South Africa He Came Back To Drag Properties With My Father. by BigMamaNaija: 8:18am On Sep 20, 2023
Peter532:
Hello all,
My dad immediate elder brother who went to south africa in the 90s is back to drag their parents property claiming to be the first son.

I will like to know how this will go because my father is ready to fight this with his last strength and we the children are firmly behind him

Luke 12: 13-15
Someone in the crowd said to Him, “Teacher, tell my brother to divide the inheritance with me.”
But Jesus replied, “Man, who appointed Me judge or executor between you?”
And He said to them, “Watch out! Guard yourselves against every form of greed, for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.”

Sassenach:

Who made this senseless law of “first son inherits everything”? So the other children are not regarded as legitimate? You see why folks cannot trust an Igbo man with ruling the country?

When a man dies in other cultures, especially in the Yoruba culture, the properties are shared equally amongst all the children. Even the married female child.

My Igbo peeps need to do a lot of learning and relearning. Not just on issues like these, but also on misogyny, homophobia and uncouthness.

Nobody said the first son should inherit everything and leave others empty-handed. It is only the main family house (where papa and mama lived before their demise) and the land on which it was built that unquestionably belongs to the first son. Other properties (if any) will usually be shared. Where the family house is the only inheritance, other sons usually know from the beginning that they need to save and buy/build somewhere else in the village.

In this case, OP's father and brothers do not want their uncle to have ANYTHING at all for the reasons he stated. Even other tribes have contributed on the thread, telling him that it's wrong by their culture. It's not just an Igbo thing.

You mean the father should have looked the other way and left the property to rot while waiting for a brother they don’t know is coming back or not or was it the father’s fault the man went AWOL?
A lot of you on nairaland have no sense. Just yapping rubbish up and down.

Grow up boy. They have been living in the said house all the while rent free or probably rented it out! Either way, they must have gotten value for whatever they spent on renovating the house. Besides, their efforts are simply honorarium to their parents. Or, are you saying capable children should only support their parents in exchange for property

Better take your eyes off any first son's right in your family. And... go get some home training on public communication.

You’re very stvpid. So it’s the fault of father that the uncle was no where to be found and the estate should have been left rotten?
And who told you if they take the case to court the court will strike their case out?
See mumu Dey talk of empathy but you saw where the guy said his father has spent money to renovate some part of the estate including building again from scratch.
So where is your empathy for the man too for the money he has spent so you mean he should just agree and leave the estate like that without considering the financial implications to him?
If you say the father and uncle should find ways to settle amicably that might have make sense but then kobo sense no Dey your empty head

I really pity you little child. Common English you cannot understand. Respect kuma, you no get. Only insult full your mouth. Oya, go and collect the inheritance of a first son and give OP na. cheesy

Maybe you're holding on to a first son's inheritance in your own family and you're seeking validation. Sorry, nothing for you. Allow the elders in your family decide who takes what. Don't go and fight to the last drop of your whatever oh.

OP my son, Nairalanders have told you the truth in one voice (surprisingly): the family house belongs to your uncle. Even if we told you anything different, it wouldn't change anything because we wouldn't be the ones to come handle the issue. We'd have only 'gingered' you wrongly to go on and fight dirty.

The elders in your family and community will handle this. Please, encourage your dad and siblings to cooperate with them in whatever formula they use for the sharing. You have no case. The customary court in your place will stand with your uncle and strike out any case you bring forward.

By the way, where is your empathy for a blood relation? How come your father does not care about what his blood brother must have passed through all these years? Even you who appears to be enlightened! Is there any normal human being that will just choose to cut off ties with his family if things were alright? Mbok be calming down.

My wife has now completely changed for bad, a few days after our second child.

An erstwhile submissive woman...

I need candid advice,folks.

My son, madam is going through postpartum depression. She needs lots of love and support now to prevent it from deteriorating. I know a lady suffering from mental illness now as a result of poorly managed postpartum depression. Trust me, you don't want that at all.

She'll need physical assistance with chores and emotional support in form of encouraging words, gifts, etc. especially from you. Please try to be around her as much as your job can allow while you also find a way to unwind yourself. Get paid help for chores if there's no capable relation around. It's a tough time for you both (more so for her) but it usually passes quickly; tops one month if you both cooperate in the healing process.

Her strength and joy will return and she will always remember those who stood by her in her time of distress. Be one of those she will remember for good.

Peace!

NaijaRealtor:
I seriously need advice.

Sorry for the long epistle.

My son, the mistake many people make is to bring an underage child who needs training to take care of other children without first training him/her. You can still retain her if you're ready to train her for at least one year with much love. During that period, carry on with ALL major duties while she watches/learns. Take care of her needs. From the second year, gradually introduce simple duties while she assists you as you run major duties. It looks like she just landed and so much was heaped on her which overwhelmed her tender frame. Does she even go to school?

If you get it right, within few years, your wife will have a wonderful assistant who can even assist you both raise her younger cousins.

Train her first. Enroll her in a good school if you've not done so. Gently teach her how things are done in your house. Correct lovingly when she makes mistakes. As time goes on, you'll all be happy.

Discuss this with your wife and if you both decide that you can't make this initial sacrifice, quietly take her back to her parents.

Peace!

Nairaland / General / Guinness World Records Advises Prospective Record Breakers. See Unbroken Records by BigMamaNaija: 5:21pm On Jul 19, 2023
Hilda Baci’s epic record for the longest cooking marathon has sparked a worldwide flurry of applications.

Social media has been flooded with people taking on all sorts of marathon attempts ever since she first burst on to the scene with a record of 93 hr 11 min.

Unfortunately, many of the attempts won’t count as there isn’t actually a record for the thing people are attempting to do.

And while some are existing record titles, the people taking them on haven’t gone through the motions of sending in an application and being sent the guidelines.

Every Guinness World Records title must be measurable and standardisable, meaning there are many guidelines to follow in order to ensure everyone is on an equal playing field.

Sadly, people who are setting off on their days-long record attempts unofficially are unlikely to meet all the criteria, despite all their enthusiasm and effort.

We want everyone to stand a fair chance, so with that in mind, we’re giving you a few quick tips on what you need to do.

A representative from our records team explained: “We advise anybody interested in achieving a record to submit an application and wait for our Records Management Team to approve your application BEFORE attempting the record.

Once the application is approved, you will receive the full guidelines which list all of the specific rules and evidence requirements for the record. If you do a record attempt without first reading the guidelines, you might do it wrong, or not capture all of the evidence we need, meaning we cannot recognize your efforts with a Guinness World Records title.

If your proposal is not something we can monitor as a record, our Records Team will explain why and may suggest alternative options for you where possible.”

We’re also going to have a look at the longest marathon records that are available for people to attempt… but given that there are literally hundreds of them, we won’t be covering them all.

But here are a few examples for you, as well as the current record that you’d have to beat…

For those with musical talent:

Longest marathon playing guitar – David Browne (Ireland) – 114 hr 6 min 30 sec

Longest marathon playing sitar - Radhakrishnan Manoharan (India) – 29 hr 8 min 35 sec

I really wish for twins, but that's my body's decision to make.

So far a know a lot about pregnancy and labor, but I don't know all the details because some things you have to experience them first in order to know all the details.

Are you telling me that a whole fully grown healthy new born baby can pass down there without causing any injuries?

Yes my daughter. Most women who were not circumcised themselves will have safe vaginal delivery of their babies without any tears. It's the women that were circumcised as babies that will need the tear you described because the structure naturally put in place to expand was cut off during circumcision. I wish you a happy marriage soon and safe delivery of your twins. wink

Op: Regular s£x especially in the third trimester will help your wife have an easier delivery but it's not really by stretching the v@ginal walls. There's a hormone in the semen that helps ripen the cervix, prostaglandin or so. Her org@sm is also a kind of exercise that prepares her body for uterine contractions and all that. However, where it's not possible for you both to be together, she can still give birth. Others have done it. Let her be up and doing, exercising moderately. I wish her safe delivery.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with investigating the entire matter to eliminate any possibility of an innocent person being punished. If she's found to be guilty, by all means let her be punished to serve as a deterrent to others. The problem is if JAMB will allow full access to their servers for the level of thorough scrutiny this requires.

The question that has been on my mind is: why do most Nigerian CBT exams not display your score immediately you submit your test? What do they usually do between the submission and release of results? JAMB needs to ensure that from next year, candidates' results are displayed immediately they submit their test.

Gaskiya.

Our princess is a treasure but needs some refining before bad friends waste her. Please, arrange for someone God-fearing outside her home to befriend and mentor her before she gets into the university. Like, an older responsible lady in her church or her previous school. First verify the person's values and then persuade her to get closer to your niece. Some churches have teen coaches on standby for such tasks.
