Nigerian leaders have always been selfish and have never put the interest of the people first. Gown, Ojukwu, and some other principal actors of the civil war are still alive and well, and most died free men, after having sent thousands of their people to an early grave.
I dont see the hero in Ojukwu, Ejoor or any of them. The felt so strongly about their position that they were willing to sacrifice the lives of others, but were never ready to die for what they believe in.

So every tournament with a fifa referee is organized by FIFA? undecided
The Wikipedia quote was referenced from http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/internationals/8088226.stm

The confederation cup in 1992 and 1995 were organized by the Saudi government, the Saudi FA and the Asian Federation, with Chuck Blazer (CONCACAF) and Petter Velappan (Asian Federation) being the key external figures. You can read the tournament reports for further details

In fact there were rumors that FIFA's  (under Havelange) move to take over the tournament (then nicknamed Little world cup) was primarily to preempt it from taking away the shine from the world cup as the premier football tournament (a position that was then threatened by the UCL), due to high cash prices and media attention the tournament was attracting.

Manchester United To Make Shock Move For Liverpool Star Fernando Torres

Manchester United are reportedly set to use the £80 million they will receive for Cristiano Ronaldo to make a bid for Liverpool’s Fernando Torres.
A bid of such size would double the amount Liverpool paid for the striker, when they signed him from Atletico Madrid in 2007.
With striker Carlos Tevez also expected to follow Ronaldo out of the Old Trafford exit, attacking options appear to be top of United’s shopping list this summer.
Of course, Torres could certainly provide the club with goals; the Spaniard managed 14 league goals in an injury-ravaged campaign last term and 24 in the Premier League in his first season at the club.

Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye.

Like the Intercontinental Cup, the King Fahd Cup was not originally organized by FIFA

History of the Confederations Cup (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Confederations_Cup)
The tournament was originally organised by and held in Saudi Arabia and called the King Fahd Cup (or Intercontinental Championship), contested in 1992 and 1995 by the Saudi national side and some continental champions. In 1997, FIFA took over the organization of the tournament, named it the FIFA Confederations Cup and staged the competition every two years.

The first forerunner of the Confederations Cup was the Mundialito, or Copa D'Oro. The Artemio Franchi Trophy, contested in 1985 and 1993 between the winners of the Copa America and European Football Championships, is considered a precursor to the Confederations Cup and was effectively replaced by the tournament in the same way that the Intercontinental Cup club tournament preceded the FIFA Club World Cup.

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Man Utd Accepts Real's £80m Bid For Ronaldo by biina: 7:38am On Jun 14, 2009
Madrid didn't buy cr7 simply for his footballing skills, but also for his marketability. If you have a sound marketing team, 80M is not too difficult to recover on a 24yr old. He is the most marketable player since beckham. Madrid have pulled it off before, and they didn't have financial problems, there is nothing to suggest this time would be any different.

One can question the possible failure on the pitch, but the truth is that until makele was sold without a suitable replacement, the galacticos were doing fine.

While ManU fans and the rest of EPL may grumble, the fact is that all eyes would be on madrid next season.

We wont know the true mugu until 2-3 seasons, (and it would likely be ManU - they did the hard part, but RM is getting the rewards)

ManU has been paired against Madrid twice in Europe, had have been sent packing on both occassions with convincing displays.
The fear led SAF to make this comment

Champions League draw was fixed: Ferguson

Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson has begun the psychological warfare before Tuesday's Champions League clash with Real Madrid by saying the quarter-final draw was rigged.
The UK's Sunday Mirror reported that Ferguson also accused world governing body FIFA of favouring the European champions.
"It was a nice draw for the Spanish and Italians - I think they picked it themselves," Ferguson was quoted in the report.
"The three Italian teams have avoided each other and so have the three Spanish. How do you think that worked out? I can tell you - UEFA don't want us in the final, that's for sure. I don't know why they have given the final to Old Trafford because they don't want us to get there."
The three other quarter-final draws paired AC Milan with Ajax, Inter Milan against Valencia and Juventus versus Barcelona.
In his astonishing outburst Ferguson said FIFA were being soft on Real Madrid's Brazilian full back Roberto Carlos after he was sent off for barging referee Alon Yefet in a friendly between Brazil and Portugal last week in Lisbon.
"I think the fact that Roberto Carlos hasn't been dealt with shows everyone the power Real Madrid have," said Ferguson.
"FIFA won't make a decision because they are waiting to see what Real say first. That shows the influence they have.
"I expect him to play against us (on Tuesday) simply because it's Real Madrid. If he played for any other club then he would be banned. There's no doubt about that."
Portugal's Abel Xavier was banned from international football for nine months after manhandling the referee at the end of the Euro 2000 semi-final against France.
Returning to Tuesday's eagerly anticipated clash in the Bernabeu, Ferguson added: "All I can hope is that we have a really top referee, and again in the second leg."

It is quite shocking that a team responsible for some of the most embarrassing displays in the UCL football is your choice for the best.

Any one remember this?

Ahmadinejad won 62.63% of the votes and Moussavi received 33.75% which is plausible.
Ahmadinejad was supposedly more popular in the rural areas and in the older demographiocs.
I personally feel most politicians try to rig, and one just out rigs the others.

Protestation does not need the majority, just a few people who are willing to show their discontent.

Man it feels good to know that Nigeria isn't the only country practicing selection. Wow, even amongst candidates stacked for the supreme ayatollah in an election that doesn't throw up much surprises they still managed to rig the results to such a massive level that you'd have to commend them for the brass balls needed to undertake such injustice. Mousavi will still ultimately answer to the Ayatollah and its not like he is a liberal either, he just wants Iran to focus internally on itself. Seriously this is amazing, why rig a showpiece election when the outcome wouldn't affect the ruling class by much?
and you have proof that the election was rigged? undecided

There is more to modern day football than just winning on the pitch. You also need to make money.
If you win without playing good football, Madrid fans will ask for your head.

CR7 is definitely marketable. It is his on the field productivity, and locker room behavior, that's worrying. For a player that seems to have ego issues already, this transfer is likely to worsen things.
Madrid can pull it off if they win trophies next season, else it will be a disaster.

If me holding my fellow Southern leaders for being responsible for 30% of Nigeria's problem while asking you to attack your own leaders who have controlled power for over 70% of the time and have nothing to show for it in your own community is tribalism . . . . . then we are not ready to move forward as a Nation.

You are free to apportion blame on ethnic grounds and I dont see the point in trying to convince you otherwise. I personally see the whole lot (north south east and west) as a monolithic group that should be prosecuted for their corruption and misdeeds. When people like you see are willing to hold individuals responsible for their actions, and not succumb to tribal batch processing, maybe the country would move forward.

BTW by my count its 9/13 which is approx 70%.

If I took your comments out of context, then please correct it. I wrote a statement of my view, which initially wasn't directed at any of your earlier comments, but your quick response  to defend your self (from guilty conscience? undecided) led me to provide evidence that it could be made applicable to you. You are the one making speculations as to my ethnicity, heroes, and ulterior motives.

Did I ever say any Nigeria leader has delivered?
Balewa, Ironsi, Gowon, Muritala, Obasanjo x2, Shagari, Buhari, IBB, Sonekan, Abacha, Abdulsalam, and all other corrupt past and present office holders including governors, ministers, armed force chiefs, LG chairman etc, irrespective of their ethnicity, origins, religion or marital status, have all failed the people.

I asked why you only named northern heads of state , and you cross the Atlantic to say that I don't have the courage to say they failed. undecided
You criticized Abacha even though he was dead, but then say that 'If Ironsi was alive. . . . ' undecided Why didn't you say 'if Abacha was alive? undecided Your double standard is what I have a problem with.
Lets see if you can admit that Ironsi and Obasanjo also failed undecided

Northern elites? you must be joking. So the southern elites have done any better? were the likes of Ibori, Tinubu, Tafa Balogun, Borishade also from the north??
Unlike you, I don't make selective criticism as if the entire government is composed of 80% Northerners or that we have done better under any one regime. For each achievement of any of our past governments, one could possibly point to 10 failings. Abacha killed Saro Wiwa, Obasanjo wiped out Odi, Yaradua is letting lose on MEND - please note the consistencyundecided

We have had greedy and selfish leaders! simple. It has nothing to do with ethnicity.

As per Soludo (or any other CBN governor), any CBN governor who as failed to tackle the core problems of the financial sector like the poor corporate governance and the forex black market, but rather touts prior tested irrelevances like increased capitalization and increased denominations (and actually wanted to re-denominate the Niara undecided), is not in touch with the history or reality of the Nigerian economy, and has failed in office. Soludo was better than some past governors (e.g Adamu Ciroma had no business in the financial sector), but he had done nothing to warrant a second tenure in office. You are free to hold a contrary opinion.

I am not sure what you are on about, but still. . . . . .

mikeansy:
I think you should go wash your face and read my post again, in the light of the bit I highlighted in bold.

Tell me if Northern Elite amounts to  a whole region in your book. (I think you should open your eyes to progress).
Then please explain who you were referring to when you said "The North has contributed to more that 80% of this failure" in your earlier post.

Ifeajuna and Ironsi lived in their time and did what they did, if they live today and negatively affect the politics of our country. I will tell them to either  change their ways or leave the seen for Progress.
but then why list only IBB, Buhari, Abacha, Murtala and Gowon? What happended to Ironsi and Obasanjo?

Biina your HEROES who you are going the extra mile to defend still run the affairs of this country and destroy it. When will your likes be man enough to tell them to leave the scene for the younger generation of Nigerians to determine their own future huh
Nigerian leaders as heroes, that's hilarious and simply a futile attempt at mind reading. I am not defending anyone. I just don't approve of the ethnic colored reasoning that is prevalent among Nigerians

I think it is becoming pretty clear why you try to force Sanusi Lamido down our throats as the Messiah while you refuse to acknowledge any achievements of Soludo.
Sanusi a messiah? the guy hasn't even done anything.
Did I nominate or approve Sanusi? If you have issues with him being the CBN governor, take it up with yaradua and the senate.
My opinion of Soludo is independent of Sanusi or any other personality. I feel the guy has failed to deliver in office, and should be replaced. IMO (and most would likely disagree) he had no business being CBN governor at the time. He was a theoretician who should have gained the needed corporate experience before being considered for the job. A stepping post of deputy governor would have been better. His seeming popularity seems to stem more from the uniformed opinion of the average Nigerian.

You think the Southerners who are honest enough to agree with Northerners when they make sense are fools? No they are just civilised and open minded.
I have no problem with you agreeing/disagreeing with someone. I would just rather we leave their ethnicity out of the discussion.
