ok. case closed. let's compare homosexuality to heterosexuality then. I think that was the original argument. why can't homosexuals get married in california when heterosexuals can?
California recognizes domestic partnerships (same sex and opposite sex), and they have almost equivalent rights to marriages. |
people in general don't approve of pedophilia. having affairs with prepubescent children should not be compared to homosexualism. ok? that's a personal attack on gay people comparing their relationship to that of sexual abusers.
so the general opinion is valid for pedophiles, but should be ignored when it comes to homosexuals? ![]() Homosexuality is just a sexual preference/orientation and thus can be compared to any other, including heterosexuality, pedophilia, necrophilia etc. You are willing to make judgment calls on the orientation of others, while not wanting to be subject to same. Such is termed hypocrisy. because they're gay duh?and therein lies the point. Orientation vs preference is inconsequential as they are simply gay. That's a symptom of homophobia. lolThe age old silver bullet - homophobia. I simply gave a counter argument to your position that out of sight is out of mind. I have not alluded to my being homophobic or otherwise. I do have a problem with people who try to browbeat others into accepting gay marriages or homosexuality in general. ok so you were comparing gay ppl to rapist on another threadYou likely falsely accused the fellow, and refused to withdraw you allegations ,even when it is obvious that your position cannot be proven. I have only tried to help you see reason. it is mean spirited to accuse another falsely. |
Who said the gay community discriminates against others with particular sexual orientation?
so gay's approve of pedophiles? Your statement here is very convoluted. please explain in understandable englishThe core difference in semantic definition of sexual orientation vs sexual preference is the issue of choice. The sexual orientation characterization argues that gay people are so because that is who they are and they have no choice in not being gay. On the other hand, sexual preference characterization states that gay people prefer to be gay and thus have a choice to be straight. The common truth is that given a choice between partners of same sex or opposite sex, homosexuals will choose same sex partners. There is no objective evidence to determine at which stage in the person the choice was made, and even so the concern is with the choice and not the stage at which the choice occurred ergo the distinction is moot. somebody said gay people have butt sex. I said what goes on behind closed doors is not his businessYou made the argument that since the act was out of his view physically, he should then not be bothered by it. My argument is that gay couples displaying affection in public could have the same effect on his mind as if he was physically present when they had sex. I subsequently followed up with the argument that the level of PDA that might be said to have such an effect becomes subjective. were you banned or you intentionally created a new persona to defend your old one?Nope I was not banned, and there is ample evidence of the veracity of the account, that the question is unwarranted. I simply read your posts and pointed out that your allegations against another poster were poorly founded, and your premise does not support your conclusion. Given that I had made similar comments on the issue in another thread, the same argument you put forward against davidylan, could be brought up against me and would be false. |
I think that schools at primary and secondary level should teach at least 2 Nigerian languages, with one being indigenous to the state. Also there should be relevant curriculum to teach the history, cultures and tradition of the various parts of the countries i.e a renovated version of the social studies of old. A lot of Nigerians know little to nothing about people from other parts of the country, and this makes it more difficult to cooperate towards a common goal. If you do not know where one is coming from, it is difficult to appreciate where he is headed. The misunderstanding is evident even on NL, where most discussions easily degenerate to tribal tantrums. |
so you support the argument that homosexuals should be compared to rapists and pedophiles? If a homosexual can give a logical reason as to why he won't support rape why not? Why do you have to agree with rape and pedophilia to argue for gay rights? why should homosexuals, rapist and pedophiles be clumped in the same category? why is the sexual side being always emphasized in these relationships? and you know, we could go on another debate over whether homosexuality is just a sexual preference or a sexual orientation.
like I said, its proponent of gay marriage that raise the issue of sexual orientation being the primary difference between gay and straight couples, arguing that the emotional and material aspects are same. The best way to debunk the argument of sexual orientation is to provide other instances of uncommon sexual orientation that are also frowned upon by the gay community and majority in the society. If the gay community discriminates against others with particular sexual orientation, it becomes hypocritical to ask same criterion not be applicable to them. The argument of sexual orientation vs preference is more of semantics than anything else. The simple truth is that given a choice, these people would prefer to act in a certain way. The fact that that might be the only choice they would rather have, is irrelevant, as it is not objectively so, and it is inequitable to take the word of the individual for it. http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/12/18/obama.warren/index.htmlI didn't say he never discussed the issue, I simply said I have never watched him and thus it would be erroneous to assume my argument stems from his comments. I wasn't referring to PDA when I made my comment. The person I was responding to made a comment about gay sex (again, the sexual part is always emphasized). That happens behind closed doors. Or have you seen gay couples having sex in public? This now becomes a subjective reference as to what is an acceptable level of PDA. This varies from society to society and thus what is termed acceptable in the US or UK, will likely cost you your arm in any of the Sharia states. I don't have to see you perform the actual act to be offended, as your PDA might be enough to bring the thought to mind. |
@biina Good point raised but bad runs against teams should end sometime but i guess peeps where oblivious to the many flaws of the Cavs.Truth is his supporting cast was piss-poor Ilgauskas and Varejao where raped endlessly by Dwight at both ends of the floor. The Cavs bench was so useless Mickael Pietrus alone out-scored them twice also Williams was shyte for most of the series always taking poor shots and just basically bad decisions with the ball Lebron played almost 44mins per game that is way too much luggage for Lebron perhaps with better free throw shooting the story might have been different @ethanol Artest is an idiot-thing i didnt know NBDL had been around that long
I honestly feel that cavs team should be taken apart. except lebron, everybody else should be reviewed. It has been repeatedly proven that basketball is a team sport. No matter how good you are, you can't win it all without the right support cast (ask Kobe). They need to add at least two quality players to that team: At the guard position and a big man up front. Boozer is up for grabs this summer. Luckily for them, Lebron will help attract a lot of ring seekers. |

Past FBN directors should be questioned over the N50 million multipurpose auditorium for UI as Moyo Ajekigbe is an alumnus of the school? You are yet to show how Sanusi, or any close associate of his, benefited from the donation. please stop looking for financial ghosts. Corrupt leaders don't need to jump through hoops to embezzle money. |
archemedes:I am not sure how you reached the conclusion that Soludo is more qualified if you do not relate it to the responsibilities of the job. If one ignores the requirements of the job, then I can say that Soludo is more qualified to be a tailor, than a trained tailor, simply because of the former's PhD and experiences you listed. I do not need to vouch for Sanusi, nor have I said he will definitely deliver in office. I have simply made the case that given his profile. he deserves the benefit of doubt and should be evaluated by his performance in office. |
I dont get what the fuss is all about. All they have said is that they are trying to raise N4 billion to build a palace. I don't see the problem in them trying to raise N4 billion, as it does not mean that they would succeed in raising said amount, and if raised that they would spend its entirety on the palace. The money is being sought from donors and not necessarily public funds. I think the figure is simply inflated to encourage contributions. |
does a bank board approve every micro decision that a CEO takes before they are implemented?
if you feel a N20 million donation is a micro-decision, then yes. |
@oyinda I think your allegations against david are likely wrongful. I myself have also used similar argument on NL. It is simply the logical counterargument when a proponent of gay marriages throws out the point that they should not be discriminated against by the society simply because they have an unusual sexual preference. The fact there are people of other sexual preferences who the gay marriage proponents would not liked licensed (and preferably criminalized) is just apt. While I am quite familiar with Rick warren, I have never watched him talk about homosexual or gay marriages. As to the issue of 'what concern u with what goes on behind closed doors', in liberal states like California, gay couples are often seen in public sharing affectionate kisses and cuddling. So it is not always behind closed doors. |
the 5 directorates are like 5 departments of the CBN Get me the job description of the CBN Governor and show me where it says you must be a Banker to qualify as a CBN Governor CBN Governors are policy makers and nothing is more imporatant than being an economist.
I never said one must be banker to be a CBN governor, only that you evaluate the relevance of past experiences to the job of CBN governor. The job of the CBN governor is essentially to ensure that the CBN fulfills all its responsibilties as much as possible, an aim that requires that all departments function well. This point would be invalid if you feel the CBN governor works in isolation ![]() If you feel the CBN is simply a policy maker, then please tell me why such appointments of person with no corporate experience are not rife in the developed countries. I would appreciate that you provide just one or two examples. |

You are making your case as if the board were unaware of the donations. If the board approved of it, then where is the suspicious behavior? Are you accusing the entire board of being complicit or that they are simply unaware of Sanusi's relationship to the school? |
archemedes:Please see above post. Qualifications and experience should not be evaluated in a vacuum, but rather related to the job responsibilities. |
soludo was a professor of economics with International consultancy experience, not sure how u arrived at that conclusion. Joseph Sanusi also had international experience what does Lamido have?
First you should check the responsibilities of the CBN and the departments under the Governor before you jump to conclusions. Soludo has international consultancy experience doing what? Prior to his appointment, he was a theorist in macro-economics. Do not try to exhume relevance by attaching 'international' to experience, rather evaluate the relevance of said experience to the associated responsibility. The CBN has five directorates * Governors' Directorate: Corporate Secretariat; strategy and performance; Internal audit; Office of the Governor * Operations Directorate: Banking Operations; Currency and Branches; Finance; and Foreign Operations * Corporate Services Directorate: Procurement & Supply Services Human Resources; Information Technology * Financial Sector Surveillance Directorate: Banking Supervision; Development Finance Department; and, Other financial Institutions * Economic Policy Directorate: Research; Statistics; Monetary Policy; and, Trade and Exchange. Soludo's experience related mainly to the last directorate. Sanusi has relevant experience in managing almost all of them. |
this is a very tried and tested way of looting public money, donate public money to charity organisations or charity courses where you have friends and maybe someone could explain to us why he refused to point out in CBN Website that the 20 Million he donated was to a school he attended. http://www.firstbanknigeria.com/mc/pressrel/pr_11052009c.asp 20 million might be small but there is need to search if this leads to a trend
and who are his friends in the school - the principal? The school is affiliated to the Catholic Church. Do you think he his now in cahoots with the Archbishop of Kaduna? Every where in the world, schools seek donation from their Alumni and/or the company they work for. Its one of the benefits of having successful products from a school. Do you expect him to donate to some else's alma mata? or you rather corporate bodies don't donate back to the society? The donation was published by First Bank which points toward it being above board. |
and herein lies the problem with Nigerians. All that seem to have a problem with the guy's appointment have failed to provide any substantial argument as to why the guy would not deliver in office. Rather they are alluding to conspiracy theories and fictitious references. For those that fear his heritage, Sanusi is known for being his own man, and has criticized the northern elites in the past. It is probably his family ties that has protected him from serious repercussions for some of his utterances. It is rumored that he left UBA for not being willing to 'play ball' with the top executive of the Bank. On paper, the guy is definitely more than qualified to head the apex bank. He is more qualified than Soludo was before he became CBN governor. He has a degree in Economics from the Ahmadu Bello University, taught undegraduate economics at ABU, worked as a merchant banker with Icon Limited, worked in UBA as a risk manager and eventually joined the board of First Bank. Some sentimentally feel that he has big shoes to fill, to which I respond that Soludo has done no better or no worse than his predecessors. (If you feel otherwise, please start a thread and I would gladly engage you on the issue). The guy should be given a chance, before we seek his head. |
JeSoul:Do not put the blame on his supporting cast. Those guy played to the best of their abilities which was sadly not enough. Was it not the same supporting cast that was present when they were winning 66 games and the magic beat them thrice? Was it not the same that was present when they were sweeping Detroit and Atlanta? The problem starts with the Magic not needing to double team Lebron, and thus forcing the support cast to need to play well when defended. It was the same story when the Cavs were swept by spurs a few years ago. It was a similar failing when they played the Lakers in the regular season. If a team can afford to guard Lebron 1 on 1, the limited abilities of the cav's support cast easily comes to fore. If you double team Lebron, then it opens up opportunities for the others. The Cav have had matchup problems with the magic in recent times, and when a team beats you 11 times out of 15, it is no longer a case of someone not showing up The playoffs is all about matchups, and the Cavs simply lost to a better (though inconsistent) team. |
ow11:Yes you are right. I seem to have mixed up the Nigerian '99 squad with the 2000 Olympic team |

RuuDie:I doubt that cule would ever join madrid. He is a technically sound player, I still remember watching him lead Spain to the trophy in the U21 tournament hosted in Nigeria, Nigeria '99. Puyol was also in that squad, with Ronaldinho on the brazillian team. |
Floretino Perez has been confirmed as the new president of Real Madrid. He won unopposed. He has since appointed -Jorge Valdano (his former sports director) as director general and assistant to the president - Zinedine Zidane as advisor to the president. - and Miguel Pardeza (takes over from Predrag Mijatovic) as sports director. The current coach of villareal, Manuel Pellegrini, is expected to take over as coach of the los merengues .He will be replacing Juande Ramos, who was in charge for the second half of the season since Bernd Schuster was given the boot late last year. |
Carlos Ancelloti has been confirmed as Chelsea boss. The 4 time champions league winner (2x as player and 2x as coach) feels winning the UCL is top priority. Chelsea has gotten to the semi-final stage 5 times in the past 6 years. |
Sagamite:what is the possible harm in over estimating the amount being paid to the senators? |
Sagamite:But please don't hold it against the police. It is the nature of their job. Often they are simply fishing, and when lucky they catch a big fish, or a small fish that would lead them to the bigger fish. |
mikeansy:I think Tunde Lemo is a brilliant banker, but the failings of his department does not speak well to his suitability for the job. Its quite saddening that there is still nothing concrete at this point. One would have expected an advance notice of a few weeks to help with the transition. I wonder if the delay is a deliberate ploy by Yaradua to blackmail the senate into approving his nomination ![]() |
tunku:'Under capitalization' was never the problem of the banking sector, nor was increased capitalization the solution to the banes of the sector. Capitalization simply ensures that the banks have more money to play with. In the same vein, capitalization is not a measure of the health of a bank, after all, the likes of citi group, Wachovia and WAMU are/were well capitalized beyond the Nigerian banks and faced financial distress, while smaller banks remained healthy. Soludo was not the first (and would not be the last) to increase bank capitalization; it is an evolutionary process. In truth there is nothing like under capitalization in of itself, unless it is seen as a derivative of over exposure. As you rightly pointed out, there is problem looming when a bank takes risks it cannot cover. The solution lies in two choices: increase the coverage level i.e. capitalization, or restrict the exposure level i.e. supervision. Each is not total on its own. Increased capitalization encourages growth, while supervision keeps the greed in check. One without the other is sub optimal. Sub-prime lending, which simply means lending under terms that increase the risk level of a loan higher than is advised (e.g lending against insufficient collateral), should not be evaluated as working or not. Rather the concern is the risk portfolio of the bank in question. For instance, a bank with a 90% of its portfolio being sub-prime loans is highly exposed, as opposed to one with only 30%. Thus the question still comes back to thre supervisory function which should ensure that the 90% composition is discouraged. Increased capitalization cannot discourage sub-prime lending. As to Sanusi's accent, that is a failing on your part, as you are the first poster I have read who has felt his accent should be a consideration in his qualification for the job. Please check his qualifications and work experience before commenting on his suitability for the position. |
tunku:Firstly, learn to make your point without resorting to personal insults. Such statements do little for you credibility. You made an unqualified claim, that the queen had no power whatsoever, and I simply corrected it. There is no need to get upset over it. If you have a counter argument, please present it coherently, but dont waste cyber space with ramblings and insults. For your information royal prerogative is not limited to the UK (as it exists in most European countries) and the queen of England has similar relationships with the governments of Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland. There are different arms of government and different roles to be played. If the monarchy is still relevant in other countries, I don't see why we should then do away with ours. |
