GraceBestowed: I'm in a similar position, a friend of mine's sister died recently, and I just didn't know the words to say. When it happens to someone else, I'm careful so as not to undermine their pain, grief, and hurt!

I have been fortunate enough not to lose anyone close to me, I thank God every day. My first port of call is to go to God, and ask for His comfort, that's also the advice I give to others in the hope that they do it earnestly.

He definitely gives comfort in trying times.

Hope49ja: A Recruiter's Perspective:

As an Nigerian International Recruiter, it saddens me to see our brothers and sisters wasting money to do a million and one degrees and certificates which will get them nowhere, especially in the UK.

1) For many people who made mistakes in their secondary school or university choices, it can be corrected. Think of internships or volunteering, even if it is for free. Work experience generally is given preference, especially for non-technical roles.
2) For those studying in the UK, think twice before spending thousands of pounds/dollars or millions of naira on further education. Many of you will be better of investing the money and reaping the benefit if you have business management and development skills.
3) For those planning to further their education abroad, please remember that lots of things have changed over the last 5-10 years. It is now extremely difficult to get a proper job in Europe and America (especially). You will be competing with natives with the law and background fully on their side.
4) For many courses, it is a lot more beneficial to have some experience before furthering your education. The more education and certification you get the more specialist and expensive you become. Ultimately, the less attractive you are for a graduate role.
5) For engineering/technically inclined high/secondary school students, consider studying a broad degree, then decide on a specialisation afterwards. For instance do a BSc in Electrical Engineering and later specialise in Computer Engineering, Energy-related degrees or anything else that you are interested in. It gives you four/five years to figure out what you really like, but also a platform to switch easily in the future.. This is particularly so as the economic and industrial situation of a country may change in your lifetime (or your country location) may change and you want to be in a position to switch to something else that is relevant and of interest to you in the future if needed.

All the best!!!
Sweet!

If I didnt call myself to order, I would have had BP at an early age. For some weeks I had respiratory difficulties.

But God is a marvelous God because financially, I am far better than she left me or more than she could have ever imagine... I almost moving up the ladder of a million... Just a corper

That is what this man should have done, concentrate on making himself a better person. The truth is that, the wife did what she did for a reason she finds so difficult to tell her husband.

Richiez: before we attempt this, let's see if we can find the derivative of x^x
if y=x^x
lny = lnx^x
lny = xlnx differentiate both sides wrt x the L.H.S using chain rule and the R.H.S using product rule
1/y(y') = x/x + lnx 1/y(y') = 1 + lnx
y' = y(1+lnx)
y' =xx(1+lnx)...........(1)
now back to the question
y= x^xx
let u = xx comparing this with the soln at eqn(1) du/dx =xx(1+lnx) now,
y = xu
diff y wrt u
dy/du = xulnx dy/dx = dy/du * du/dx
=xulnx[xx(1+lnx)]
but u=xx dy/dx = x^xxlnx[xx(1+lnx)]
Wow

Egba girl: I def agree that it's not just Nigerian students. I think it's the industry that sometimes determines what people study.

@topic, I initially wanted to study Econ because I did it for my A levels and I liked it a lot and so I came to college telling myself that I was going to be an Econ major. I took another Econ class and that was the end of it. I swore that I was done with Economics and I never took another Econ class again (although tbh, I think a lot of it had to do with the professors and the way they taught the classes). Anyway, I chose Conflict Studies/ Peace and Conflict Resolution and French as my majors and when I told my dad, he was upset! For about a year, he could not come to terms with the fact that I had chosen Conflict Studies. What was that anyway? Well unless I was going to follow it up with a masters or phd in Intl Relations or any degree of that nature but I really wanted to go into social work and what I kept on hearing and I still hear it today is that there is no money there. and that is the reality of it!

My friends are either in biochem or other sciences,econ and accounting and of late, I have been wondering if sticking to the Econ would have been a better option or forcing myself to do Bio or Biochem because of job prospects. I have friends writing certification exams like CFA and the IT ones too because they know that with these certifications, your chances of getting a job w a decent salary are higher.

Bottomline is that people study the "wrong" majors because that's about the safest way to ensure that you get a good job with a good salary.
I never thought I'd see some of the cruel comments I'm seeing here.
Since when did going to the beach become an anathema to be described as 'careless living and phucking'? Are Nigerians so used to suffering that the little pleasures of life now seem strange?

Who here has not gone on some little adventure or the other? Who here has not attended a bash or a youth gathering? Some have even travelled miles to visit a lover while in school.

Let him without sin cast the first stone. Or is it because during your time, no evil befell you that you can now act in this cold manner?
Please, have a rethink.

RIP to the departed.
Its tragic really
These are things that are done normally and no one sees anything wrong with it

Our poverty mentality has so warped our senses that we condemn any and everything

In the west festivals like Burning Man, Woodstock are highly anticipated and are successful tourist attractions yet people are safe and secure

2jideofor: Tell them... Tell them bro.

You wonder why men kill their girlfriend/wife, pour acid on them, behead them? That is the hight of anger and disaster cheating or heartbreak can have on a man.
Looking at it more critically, someone would have still kicked the bucket, either the brother or the wife. And that is if the man had not taken his own life. At that point in time, that man was more dangerous than Osama Bin Laden...
Irrespective of how bad it looks, NO ONE, I repeat NO ONE MALE OR FEMALE deserves to be murdered because of infidelity or to take his or her life

Why don't you leave it to God to judge as we all have sinned and should not judge

Once again, may the departed rest in peace

didicold: Its a public beach i think, so no life guard, d best we could have hoped for is the coastguard which is virtually non-existent in lag, d only thing dey pay attention to are ships
Nother tragedy here the fees we pay to enter the beach should be used to set up a lifeguard system and a place where near drowning incidents can be stabilised before they are sent to the hospital

Also the beach should be well lit

In other parts of the world, people go to beach parties at night so it's not unnormal for people to groove at night

Tell your friend to stop asking her what she wants to eat, and she should start giving her instructions to do some house chores. In short, she should take charge of her house before they all turned her to a slave.
