Agugbadin: Illegitimate assembly members, when the judiciary makes the right pronouncement that this former legislators remain sacked, having defected to another party and hence lost their seats, the tension in Rivers state will die down.
Judiciary has made the right pronouncement. It's the rest of us that's interpreting it the way we deem fit depending on our sentiments. Those who understands it knowing have gone to the SC and they are making their supporters feel they are on the right .
IfnobeGod20: That was the same issue I raised when the Supreme Court made the judgement. The Supreme Court just compounded the whole issue because if today an election is conducted into Local Government council, no single opposition will win election. The governor will just hand over names of those to announce and before the final collation of results, you may just hear the results had been announced. Until the constitution is tinker with and the conduct of the council election is done by the INEC before we can averagely say the local government is autonomous. One very big issue again, the Supreme Court had said in the past that the state governor has the right to replicate the LGAs, which gave birth to LCDAs in many states of the federation. If the governor have the sole right to replicate the LGA, any local government area not in the good book of the governor, the governor will just wake up one day and replicate it and turn it to mushroom LG. Just I had always say, if the judiciary doesn't kill this country, it will remain small because their ruling is somewhat contradictory. Your ruling empower governor to manage the affairs of the local government areas and can conduct election for them but your another ruling say you grant local government financial autonomy. Why can't we have holistic provisions that will make truly the Local Government Areas the third tier of government in the constitution than subjecting the local government to half baked system.
There has always been financial autonomy in the constitution. What the court just did is to place emphasis on it.
Meti99: Till today EFCC doesn't know what to do to Yahaya Bello one out of ordinary 36 governors, Now imagine running after 774 local government chairmen.. It will be too complex for any organization to run after .. Restructuring is the only answer
EFCC does not want to arrest him. If they do they should approach the court if they have a solid case. It's an abnormal practicing fe of arresting someone , squeeze information out of him and then take him to court. It does not work that way. The logical and ideal way is to approach the unbiased judge or AG with your proofs , you'll be issued a warrant and then you go after him. Put out in public, any person hiding such from the law would be apprehended and arrested, be it whoever and even if a sitting governor would lose their immunity. These things are simple. But we know who we are and why we choose to arrest some and leave some.
But sha, many state Governors are about to receive POLITICS 101 lesson from Tinubu. Wike has a better relationship with traditional rulers in Rivers state, Fubara go hear am. The Local government elections in Rivers will not come easy. Wike will definitely use Federal might to back his CANDIDATES while ALL BAD BOYS arranged by Fubara to do any funny arrangement should watch their back for BULLETS and surprise visits by men of the Military.
Politics at the LGA can't be done with bullets, the same way it's done at the State level . All I see it's either a show of who can pay more to get votes or it's going to be a popularity, more accessible and acceptable contest or a mix of all. Remember the LG level is the level of the ordinary man at the village. It's either the people(masses) do it right or they themselves will suffer their actions.
Kobojunkie: Let's visit the meaning of Federalism. Please pay close attention to not just the definition of the term but also the example of current states that implement the system. The constitution, the legal contract/agreement upon which the federation of Nigeria is defined does not talk about federalism. What it instead does is describe the design and structure of the system .
The bolded is just what needed. As long as the design does not in any way specify federalism but rather made mention of a design and structure that looks like a federal system of government then it is not. We are good in lifting patterns but tailoring it in ways not done elsewhere. There's no federal system all over the world that has 2 federal houses made of Senate and HoR. There's no federal system all over the world that talks about 3 arms of government and 3 tiers of government. So when people especially the politicians who think they know it and those who are given to wishful thinking come up and say we practice a federal system it's like they don't even know what they are system. If it's not specifically stated in the book then it does not exist.
What I don't understand is that why is a man who was born in either 1970, 1972, 1977 be writing WAEC in 2008? What exactly was he intending to use the result for?
Kobojunkie: 1. Everyone is accepting it probably because like always the Nigerian people remain ignorant of their very Constitution and the many political manipulations of their political class.
See, I don't need to be a lawyer to know what the Constitution says or understand that it is being violated. I simply need to educate myself on what it says to know this. Before all of this the Constitution never granted Governors access to the Special account they were to maintain, and neither did the Constitution grant Governors control over LGs. The illegal control and dipping into LG accounts are criminal offenses and all implicated governors ought to be punished. However, this decision by the Supreme Court does three things ● It exonerates the Governors by insinuating the Constitution is to blame. ● It illegally grants the FG direct access to the LGs, shifting power over the LGs from the National and State House of Assembly into the hands of the FG. That power shift moves Nigeria well away from true federalism as currently defined in the Constitution ● Removes full control over election and removal of LG chairmen from the hands of the people at the local level to the FG. If the people have a problem with their LG chairman, they now have to tangle with FG if they wish to have him or her removed from office
The ruling benefitted the politicians. State governors cannot be impeached and prosecuted for what are crimes against the people. And the FG now garnered more control over issues at the grassroots level. The people get absolutely nothing but a lopsided government at the end of it all.
2. Peter Obi does not enjoy impunity in Nigeria so you are free to demand he be prosecuted for crimes committed during his tenure. So what exactly is stopping you from doing that?
Please can you help me with the section of the constitution that talks about true federalism or you can also explain to me. Let me understand what is true about our type of practice. Thanks.
signature2012: Whether you like or not; this man is the best person to rule this country.
You are just being a tribalist and religious fanatic to be supporting Tinubu.
Ask yourself, in the last one year, how has life treated you in the I country?
For people to be saying Buhari’s Administration is far better than Tinubu….Ha!!!
Don't say because you are close to APC politicians, and feign away from the truth. Posterity will judge you and your family o..
Before you say PO is a better person and how has life treated Nigerians for the past 12 months. Remember, Nigeria is made up of 36 States and an FCT. Now truthfully say how was Anambra State when PO was governor and how was life there? How much wa PO paying as minimum wage during his administration as governor compared to Lagos and FCT? How much was the price of food stuffs? What's the IGR ?
PaNnamdi: Fubara should use rivers oil to exchange for arms from Nigeria and let USA come into river state to rescue them from unfolding genocide in the state
Why would USA come into to Rivers State to rescue. I thought you would also volunteer to carry arms and aid the governor as a true patriot.
Adakintroy: Someone died and several are in the hospital. The only thing I see is that it was done by an amature. A real Hitman would not miss for that distance. Niga just graduate high school.
It's not about a real hitman. It's about the odds not been in ones favour. A head shot would have been clean but from the looks of it, Trump got lucky and at the point of contact he tilted his head and the bullet grazed his ear.
Moventist: Fubara is a cool guy that's why wike is still trying to misbehave. But trust Rivers, no one is a king. Wike has long lost his relevance in the state. Currently, Fubara is constructing six flyovers and 25 bridges across swamp forest which are more costlier than flyovers . Zonal and general hospitals are being revived. The most cherished is everyone is given free hand to operate
When the bolded is completely done within reasonable time frame then it will be applauded. As regards costlier, it does not really matter, because all projects in the nation are over over bloated.
Are you sure? If they are not members of the house why would the governor put a resolution via the court not to entertain no impeachment notice from them who are supposedly called non members!!!!!
The best thing anyone could say is that the Rivers State does not have any SAM(State Assembly Members).
Sermwell: Someone who is far more experienced than you in politics is telling you something and you're here arguing rubbish! Without even being told, don't you know that move is trash? A whole former governor is telling you something and you have the guts to doubt?
The masses are indeed gullible and stupid
He is more experienced because he was a former governor or what? We are moving away from the old ways and whatever it takes will be done. Appendages, stooges and godfatherism will gradually be on the downside. Does he not also know that the LGA have their own Local Assembly just like the State Assembly.
The elder statesman that said he would go on self exile if Tinubu wins the election and court case is not appealing to the President to go further to restructure the nation. It's now all these PDP loyalists and apologists are seeing things differently. They never saw it during their years of plenty and abundance.
There are lots of people who will write petitions against them regarding any fraudulent acts. The EFFC will be so glad to have numerous cases to investigate and prosecute. It will also enable the FG to employ more persons into the EFFC and other security personnels involved in financial mismanagement. Remember immunity can't be given to these particular tier of government. We are getting there. It's just a matter of time.
atiku4President: Good Congratulations to local government areas that their chairmen are not in the same party with the governors. The chairmen will have enough funds to loot, sorry to work with.
There's little to what you can loot when immunity does not cover you. It's either you work and eat or you eat and spend time in prison. It's all the choice they have.
sammiy: This is a long overdue judgement, lets trust that this will bring good developments to LGAs. However, i doubt that the judgement will be implemented immediately except the FG is ready for a showdown with state governments....A lose-lose situation! nobody wins.
i will expect both FG/SG to agree a window period for implementation to allow for states to prepare & conduct elections because an immediate implementation could further impoverished the people that the judgement seeks to liberate as some Govs could stop paying salaries if allocation stops immediately and the logistics of FG paying those worker directly could be cumbersome.
The law will take it's course. There is no turning back. There are no sentiments. Everyone will uphold the constitution of the FRN and the judgment of the SC. If the governors like they can instigate the LG staffs, that will not change anything. Unlike the governors , LGA chairman don't enjoy immunity so they should be mindful and careful if they feel they can be protected by any godfather.
BERNIMOORE: Fubara has deceived those urchins Jumping up on CTC appointment, One chance
implication now is that FG Now controls whoever is elected LG chairman, The FG will easily select and this Gives APC candidates more advantage, so we expect even fubara chosen ones I mean the few ones he can influence to Rebel against him.....and join with APC FG....of course the FG will dangle the carrot....VERY INTERESTING....when a child is tall like the father, he got no experience and tricks like the father..
The FG cannot control whoever is a LGA chairman. There are certain things that cannot be sustained even with greed. Little steps irrespective of our corrupt values we will get things right as time goes on. LGA chairman should as a matter of fact be careful otherwise I see many of them spending prison time like crayfish in a sack bag if they behave like the governors.
tonye33: Today, the Rivers State Government has lunched what I consider one of the most important and laudable interventions of government. If effectively managed, I will consider it one of the best achievements of this government because it is one that involves LIFE.
Today, the Rivers State Ministry of Health has officially launched the Emergency Medical Service and Ambulance System in Rivers State that will keep a 24-hour operation and immediate response system.
With this, a person suffering cardiac arrest or bleeding profusely can stand a chance of survival as there is now a standby system to take your call.
Today, the Emergency Call Centre has been officially launched with the emergency number as 112.
As of this moment, there is now a fleet of dedicated ambulance vehicles, a dedicated number of health workers for the emergency response system, an operational base, and an Emergency Call Centre.
It’s also worthy of note that the ambulance system is free and that there is free medical service for the first 24 hours.
This is how we develop as a nation.
This is how we secure the life and well-being of the citizenry.
May Governor Sim Fubara succeed🙏
Sim Fubara is in charge 💪 😊
Nice one. I remember during the Gov. CRA administration, there was an Emergency Call Centre somewhere in Old GRA Forces Avenue and they are in operation 24/7. There's a number to call on whatsoever issue and it will be treated ASAP. They are also linked to the security agencies for faster reach out. I just hope such is still in existence and also works hand in with this emergency medical services. Kudos to the Gov. SIM.
Odidigboigbo: Baba I know all these it can only become law when the president has assented to the bill, but till now nothing like that has happened. As I said Delta is holding LG election this weekend and it's being conducted by DSIEC not INEC
Lucky them. It's a process. Some states may escape it some may not escape it. But the end of State Electoral Commissions have come to an end and it ends this year.
There's no such thing as the ministry of livestock being created as claimed by several media outlets and persons. It's quite misleading. What the FG did is to set up a committee.
Odidigboigbo: Last last, the State Government will still find a way to collect the allocations sent to the LG back, since the elected LG officers are state governor's puppets. Just like giving money to a toddler and expect the mother not to collect it from him.
This is likely possible but it will not last long. You do know even successors of predecessors of governors go against agreements. Even if the governors using the council members to impeach the chairman, still it will not last long. There will be a time when majority will stand their ground. Remember LG chairman are not on pension like governors, so there will be a resistance.
Odidigboigbo: Where did you read this? My state is having LG election this weekend is being conducted by the state electoral service not INEC. Stop dishing fake news
Your comment just shows you've not actually been following up the processes. Please do well to search Google for it also from other links. The below ia just the few. Thanks.
