Some years ago, I was travelling home via Malaga Airport, Spain. A security officer asked me to place my watch in the tray to be x-rayed. I said that my watch had never triggered the alarm but she insisted that it was standard policy at Malaga to remove the watch. I placed my watch on top of the tray, and the security officer then engaged me in conversation, asking where I had been and what kind of work I do. When I reached the other side of the x-ray machine, my watch had gone. When I told the person scanning the tray contents he claimed that there had been no watch. I asked him to scroll back through his film to my tray. He scrolled back to someone else’s and said ‘there is no watch.’ I protested that this was not my tray on screen. He said it was, and if was unhappy I should speak to the airport police. I went to the airport police office and a guy looking like Coolhand Luke emerged, cigarette in mouth, shades, and hand on pistol. He went back to the security gate with me and said ‘This gentleman says his watch has been taken from his tray.’ The security guy said ‘There was no watch.’ The policeman said ‘There was no watch, now go and get your flight. The more I protested, the more firmly he gripped his gun. I don’t like to argue with a man with a gun. When I arrived home, an internet search revealed that this scam was (at that time) common at Malaga Airport. |
That pilot’s lingo - George: Autopilot e.g. “I'll let George take over, I gonna take a nap.” )Blue juice: toilet or lavatory water. So if a mischievous flight attendant offers you a blue juice cocktail, then don’t fall for it. )Pax: Passengers. Deadheading: When an airline employee flies free of charge as a passenger for company business, because they are currently in the wrong city for their next scheduled flight. Just the way United did recently by kicking 4 passengers out of the plane to accommodate their deadheading crew. Two-for-once special: The plane touches down on landing, bounces up, then touches down again. Bumpy landing )Crotch watch / Groin scan: The required check to make sure all passengers have their seat belts fastened. Time to dangle the Dunlops: Put the landing gear down Tarmac: Paved areas at airports. (short for Tarmacadam, or tarpenetration macadam named for John Loudon McAdam who invented an effective and economical road construction method in the early 1800's based on crushed rock. Although nobody use it now for airports, the slang just persisted for years until now.) Apron: The section of the tarmac that is not a runway or taxiway; this is whether planes park or are serviced. Contrail: Short for Condensation trails, these are the long, thin clouds that form behind aircraft; most often triggered by the water vapor in engine exhaust. So, keep calm (!) and enjoy your flight… |
Somethings that pilots won’t tell you… Of course they can do this stunt when the plane is parked on the ground )That there are no parachutes or ejection seats available for pilots in the cockpit like in fighter jets. ( Although they know the plane is going to crash soon, they won’t simply abandon you alone in the back. They will fight till their last breath using best of their experience and skills . (Respect!).That pilots are kept constantly under pressure by airliners to carry less fuel than they are comfortable with. For obvious business reason - the plane burns more fuel to carry more fuel and costs more! But in case of worst weather at destination, they cannot stay long in the air, and have to land nearby alternative airports. As this happens rarely, so airlines take a chance. That there is no such thing as “Water landing”! It is known as “crashing into the ocean” or more formally “ditching” That pilots dims the interior lights while take-off or landing, so your eyes should get used to darkness outside in case of emergency evacuation. That pilots tell you or Flight Attendants (FA) to put up the window shades while take-off or landing. So that the FAs can see outside in an emergency, to assess which side is better for an evacuation. It also lets light into the cabin if it goes dark and helps passengers get oriented if the plane flips or rolls over. That one of the engines just failed. They will just say we have some blah blah technical issue and we need to land nearby airport. A plane can be landed with only one engine, before passengers or even FAs notice it. Unless it is on fire or smoking! That they didn’t sleep properly or, the break between two flights was not enough or sufficient for refreshment. They will put a smile on their face so passengers and FAs feel comfortable and confident about flight. That morning flights are smoother (attention passengers having flight phobia!) than in the afternoons or later. Because latter causes bumpier air and thunderstorms occur mostly in the afternoon. That if they tell Flight Attendants to sit down, then assume that there is serious turbulence ahead. That smoothest seat to avoid bumps is the seat over or near the wing. Just imagine a plane like a giant seesaw. The bumpiest is of course the seat at the back. That a plane moves on to active runway by mistake - 1000 times a year! WTF… That your coffee is made from the same water that comes from the same potable water holding tank that supplies water to the bathroom sink and contain bacteria 100 time more than standard limits. That some pilots (being human just like you and me) get distracted by their laptops and cellphones in cockpit during flight e.g. in Oct. 2009 two pilots busy with their laptops flew past their destination by 110 miles! Hurray!!! That pilots don’t wear their hats in the cockpit. Gotcha )That pilots spends a quarter million on their education and training |
Then I traveled abroad for the first time, I was going to Egypt. After I landed in Cairo Airport, the immigration officer asked me ‘Is it your first time traveling abroad’ (looking at the only visa in my passport). I said, ‘Yes’. After 2 minutes, she said, please wait in the waiting area. I kept waiting for 2 hours and gradually she left. Now, I was the only person in the entire terminal building apart from a sweeper who was cleaning the terminal. After half an hour (2.5 hours of waiting), the sweeper comes to me and asks ‘Passport, passport?’. I said ‘Yes, I have been waiting for 2.5 hours’. He said ‘Come to me’. (took me to to the men’s toilet) He says ‘100 Dollars’. For one moment, I was shocked. Looking at how corrupt the system was. I had 1000 thought in my mind. But I thought it’s better to be practical. I started bargaining. Back then, 1 USD was equal to 6 Egyptian Pounds i.e. 100 USD = 600 EGP. So, I started bargaining and we settled down at 30 Egyptian Pounds. (Yes! I did a lot of drama) Then, he agreed and said ‘Wait for me. I will tell you when you have to come to me’ In the mean time, he got me my luggage since it was the only bag on the luggage belt and the entire terminal was empty. After 15 minutes, he was standing at the immigration counter and created a sound to call me near him, holding my passport in his hand. Well, I don’t know what came to my mind. But, suddenly, instead of taking out money from my wallet, I started walking towards him. By the time I reached the counter, he opened the gate. I start to find the visa page. AND SUDDENLY, I RAN LIKE IT WAS THE LAST MOMENT OF MY LIFE. That was the fastest I have ever run. culled from QUORA |

Raphael (Standard Hebrew רָפָאֵל, Rāfāʾēl, "It is God who heals", "God Heals", "God, Please Heal" is an archangel of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam who in the Christian tradition performs all manners of healing. In Islam, Raphael is the fourth major angel; in the Muslim tradition, he is known as Israfil. Raphael is mentioned in the Book of Tobit, which is accepted as canonical by Catholics, Orthodox, and some Anglo-Catholics, as useful for public teaching by Anglicans and considered useful and good to read by Lutherans. Raphael is generally associated with the angel mentioned in the Gospel of John as stirring the water at the healing pool of Bethesda. Raphael is also an angel in Mormonism, as he is briefly mentioned in the Doctrine and Covenants

Asmodeus (/ˌæzməˈdiːəs/; Greek: Ασμοδαίος, Asmodaios) or Ashmedai (/ˈæʃmᵻˌdaɪ/; Hebrew: אַשְמְדּאָי, ʾAšmədʾāy; see below for other variations) is a king of demons mostly known from the deuterocanonical Book of Tobit, in which he is the primary antagonist. The demon is also mentioned in some Talmudic legends; for instance, in the story of the construction of the Temple of Solomon. He was supposed by some Renaissance Christians to be the King of the Nine Hells. Asmodeus also is referred to as one of the seven princes of Hell. In Binsfeld's classification of demons, each one of these princes represents one of the seven deadly sins (Lust, Gluttony, Greed, Sloth, Wrath, Envy, and Pride). Asmodeus is the demon of lust and is therefore responsible for twisting people's sexual desires, as seen in the book of Tobias especially. He is also said to be here on Earth after millions of years in hell. In jewish and islamic lore he is the king of the demons (Shedim/Jinn). It is said in Asmodeus; Or, The Devil on Two Sticks that people who fall to Asmodeus' ways will be sentenced to an eternity in the second level of hell. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asmodeus |

Pope francis landed in cairo 54 mins ago |
His trip comes just weeks after 45 people killed in Egyptian church bombings But bold pontiff has turned down use of armoured car despite security risks His spokesman said terror attacks are part of the world of 'the new normal' Pope Francis has asked his Christian followers to pray for him as he heads to Egypt as a 'pilgrim of peace' tomorrow. The head of the Catholic church made the plea on Twitter as a Vatican spokesman confirmed the pontiff would not be using an armoured car as his predecessors did for foreign trips. His move is especially bold given it comes just weeks after two Palm Sunday suicide bombings on Egyptian churches that killed at least 45 people. Pope Francis is facing a religious and diplomatic balancing act as he heads to the Middle East, where he is hoping to comfort the Christian community after a spate of Islamic attacks while seeking to improve relations with Muslim leaders. Security has been tightened, with shops ordered closed and police conducting door-to-door checks in the upscale Cairo neighborhood where Francis will stay Friday night. His only public Mass is being held at a military-run stadium. Vatican spokesman Greg Burke said Francis wasn't overly concerned and wouldn't be riding in a protected car. Francis insisted on going ahead with the trip even after the bombings in Tanta and Alexandria as well as the subsequent attack at the famed St. Catherine's monastery in Sinai. 'We're in the world of "new normal",' Burke said. 'But we go forward with serenity.' The highlight of the two-day trip will be Francis' visit Friday to Al-Azhar, the revered 1,000-year-old seat of learning in Sunni Islam. There, he will meet privately with grand imam Sheikh Ahmed el-Tayeb, and participate in an international peace conference.Francis has insisted that Christian-Muslim dialogue is the only way to overcome Islamic extremism of the kind that has targeted Christians and driven them from their 2,000-year-old communities in Iraq, Syria and elsewhere in the Middle East. While condemning extremist attacks against Christians, he has said he is traveling to Egypt as a messenger of peace at a time when the world is 'torn by blind violence.' But his message of dialogue and tolerance has been rejected as naive by even some of his fellow Jesuits, for whom Islam remains 'a religion of the sword' that has failed to modernize. Even ordinary Egyptian Christians see his visit as a nice gesture but one that ultimately won't change their reality. The pope's visit, following el-Sissi's recent reception at the White House, will crown the time and effort he has invested in shaking off the international isolation he suffered after his 2013 ouster of Islamist President Mohammed Morsi, Egypt's first freely elected president. Egypt's Coptic Christians, who make up about 10 percent of the country's 92 million people, have been strong backers of el-Sissi even after the recent attacks and amid mounting international criticism of human rights violations by his government. Burke, the Vatican spokesman, acknowledged that the pope could be used by leaders for their political ends during his foreign trips. But he insisted Francis has an agenda of his own: to minister to Egypt's tiny Catholic community, express solidarity with the broader Christian community and improve ties with Muslims.

going through history, everyone tags hitler as he embodiment of all that is evil, but looking at it,minus the holocaust, adolf did what every other european leader would have done, only hitler was better prepared. Stalin purged his army and was purged the polish army and was a stone cold communist to his people or was it gen. francisco franco and his leftist purge after the spanish civil war or even almighty napoleon bonaparte. yes...the NAZI were power drunk sycophant(i personally dislike himmler and goring),but hitler was a genius in a way,dis was the same german in 1914 that suffered the massively in WW1, and had to pay the debt for the entire war,the economy was so bad that to buy a loaf of bread, one needed a wheel barrow of deutschemark fast forward to 1939, and you had the most sophisticated army in der welt.....unterboats,panzers,jerrycan,fanta,enigma,even HUGO BOSS designed the uniforms for the wehrmacht...am not in any way justify the holocaust,i guess the world was just amazed that nazi germany was just too sophisticated for the war,but the holocaust was a terrible crime so my verdict......guilty but was he ever the worst of them all?
