FoodRe: Entertained With An Hyena In The Village- See Pictures by blackweaver(m): 12:40pm On Nov 10, 2015
It's not a hyena, and it definitely can't be a racoon because racoons aren't found in Africa (unless they were brought here as pets). Like a number of knowledgeable have said, it's a civet

"Open Disc" command on Ubuntu's VLC doesn't work. The prog just shows its normal blank window.

On Windows7, I double-click the D drive on Windows Explorer, and it loads/opens via Windows Media Player.
Maybe it's some proprietary format, i don't know. You could try installing mplayer/gnome-mplayer or xine/gxine, though i don't know if any of those will play your dvd

Hello,

My laptop dualboots Ubuntu 14.04 LTS with Windows7.

I have this interactive DVD (that I use to train & study for a course). This DVD opens with Windows Media Player in Windows7.

I tried using VLC player to open it in Ubuntu, but it doesn't work.

Can someone please recommend a good dvd-player on Ubuntu that can play an interactive DVD?

Thanks.
Is it that it can't play the dvd or what? I'm pretty sure vlc will be able to play the dvd
media -> open disc should play it

Nobody even commented on the release of Ubuntu 15.10. Even I have been so busy I only found out about the release a day later. Haven't had time to try it out just yet

yeah,I started booting ubuntu before I got the error,I installed the Windows 8.1 myself
tried googling on installing Linux on your type of laptop. one thing you I read about is going to bios settings and changing the drive from ahci to ata. Why that should happen I don't know, by now Ubuntu normally recognises ahci out of the box. Later on when you have updated your Ubuntu to the latest, you can try changing back to ahci. I believe ahci is noticeably faster

I used the same drive to Install Windows 8.1 and it gave me no problems.
I tried using ut to install ubuntu and debian jessie but gave a an error code saying the drive can't read the source dvd ,that a firmware is missing ( would get a screen shot soon here).
I downloaded and burnt the ubuntu myself but I ordered for the debian online..
you started booting the ubuntu before you got the error message right

might be a secureboot problem. Did your laptop come preinstalled with windows 8?

What model is your phone?
When you go to app info for non-system apps, isn't there an option to move to sdcard?

Why not back up your most important stuff (contacts, messages, favorite apps) and reset the phone? And are you sure it's a virus? Install an antivirus and scan it for malware

Hi guys, I was trying to install ubuntu 14.04 LTS but ran into a brick wall when my laptop couldn't read from the dvd.
Said some crucial firmware is missing...
Anytime I search online it gives a linux .deb version of ut to download, while am currently on Windows OS so I can't download.

My laptop is a Dell inspiron 1545 .
Did you burn the dvd or you were given? can you view the dvd from inside windows? Are you convinced the dvd drive is not at fault (can you view any other cd/dvd using that dvd drive)?

So? Isn't the most important thing being able to use your phone? I have a 5" chinko phone that i don't like the way the buttons are arranged. I presently use onscreen buttons despite the fact that the default menu buttons still work

remove the battery and put it back in and put your phone back on. I think you were holding the down button when you put on your phone

bro, I've gone through the link, but can I upgrade from 12.10 to 14.04? or do I need to do a fresh install
Upgrading from an unsupported version is not recommended usually, because too many things can go wrong. It's better and easier to back up your home folder and do a clean install. That said, if you really insist on upgrading from 12.10 you can check this link if you can figure thing out

purplekayc:
what version do you recommend @ this point?
Did you check the link in my previous post?
The most recent LTS version is 14.04, it will be valid till 2019. Funny enough, if you had installed 12.04 it would still be valid till 2017, but my recommendation would be 14.04

I use 12.10, i browse normally on it..used to download from the software centre, it just stopped. instead of the install button, it shows "use this source"
OK now I get, your version is no longer supported which means there'll be no more updates

check the following link for Ubuntu versions and their release end of life

www.ubuntu.com/info/release-end-of-life

my advice is, if you want to use Ubuntu for more than 18 months without changing to a newer version, install one of the lts (long term support) versions.

how do I do that
in terminal just type ping 8.8.8.8

you should get something like:

64 bytes from 8.8.8.8: icmp_seq=33 ttl=50 time=99.8 ms
64 bytes from 8.8.8.8: icmp_seq=34 ttl=50 time=100 ms

64 bytes from 8.8.8.8: icmp_seq=36 ttl=50 time=100 ms
64 bytes from 8.8.8.8: icmp_seq=37 ttl=50 time=102 ms
64 bytes from 8.8.8.8: icmp_seq=38 ttl=50 time=99.4 ms
64 bytes from 8.8.8.8: icmp_seq=39 ttl=50 time=99.2 ms
64 bytes from 8.8.8.8: icmp_seq=40 ttl=50 time=99.6 ms
64 bytes from 8.8.8.8: icmp_seq=41 ttl=50 time=100 ms
64 bytes from 8.8.8.8: icmp_seq=42 ttl=50 time=99.0 ms

After a few seconds type ctrl+c (that's the control key and c key simultaneously) to end the operation

You should get something like:

--- 8.8.8.8 ping statistics ---
71 packets transmitted, 71 received, 0% packet loss, time 70088ms

if you have 100% packet loss then you have a problem accessing the internet from your terminal

Okay nice one. . . the 2nd pic is a confirmation ofa go ahead. . .
Download the official stock ROM for your phone . check needrom.com if any there matches what you need. Then place the file on your SD card.
After that, reboot your phone in to that recovery mode I.e the second pic. First of all, you have to click on "data wipe/reset" , this will wipe every info you have on your phone, and "clear cache partition" (VERY IMPORTANT) Then select on "apply update from external storage"_ from there locate the folder where you saved the stock ROM file, and then click on the file. Click Yes to start the process after that, reboot. . .
you forgot to tell him the most important thing: MAKE A BACKUP FIRST
In case anything happens he needs to be able to fallback to his previous position

My infinix X570 is not functioning well. Everytime the storage space runs out. I was advised to delete some applications which i did, just leave only 3 applications, still I cant download my email, bbm and other applications.Phone storage is free while internal storage has 11mb free and 0.97GB used just for only 3 applications. Please what can I do to fix it. Thanks
I'm guessing your phone isn't rooted. The easiest way will be to reset your phone. Back up any files on your phone to your sd card. Of course the proble with that is that your settings will be lost, and you'll have to setup your phone again.
Before doing that, can you go to settings -> storage scroll to internal storage and send a screenshot? Maybe I can figure out a less painful way of fixing your problem

One thing you can also try is to clear data in the play store properties

do you have that problem both in landscape and portrait mode for the same keys? if you're sure it's not a screen problem, you can download a third party keyboard like Swype or swiftkey or TouchPal or google keyboard from the play store and use that instead
