The conspiracy fall flat since it requires they register for naturalization and meet requirements. An illegal immigrant isnt of good character since they dont respect immigration laws. |

Get rid of security security votes you can literally double it next year. Long term decentralization police let state and local governments handle the domestic police work. FG should focus on maritime domain and borders. |

Shagari's government actually had an agreement with Cameroon to give them part of Bakassi in ruturn for passage of the Federal troops into 'Biafra land' during the civil war through the south south end as they were finding trouble advancing through the west and east axis. Subsequent governments failed to carry out the promise hence Cameroon took the case to the world court and won, leaving Obasanjo and Nigeria with no choice than to cede the land to them. Thats Wives tales. There's no document supporting that fictional story. During the ICJ case this story was never brought up. |

They've been ignored for years by the state and federal government unless there's elections. Im guessing the governor is subtly alluding to Bakassi situation. Politics › Ogun Government: We Won’t Allow Benin Republic To Take Oil-rich Tongeji Island by Blue3k(op): 3:04pm On Jul 15, 2019 |
Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has declared that his administration would not allow the oil-rich Tongeji Island that shares boundary with the Republic of Benin, to be taken away by Nigeria’s neighbouring country.
Abiodun said his administration was determined to do all in its power to make life meaningful for the citizens of the state living within the Island located in Ipokia Local Government Area (LGA) of the state,
Abiodun who made this known at the weekend when he received the Nigerian Ambassador to the Republic of Benin, Ambassador Emmanuel Kayode Oguntuase, and the Flag Officer Commanding Western Region (FOC), Rear Admiral Oladele Daji, noted that the Island had been on his administration’s radar because of its huge deposit of petroleum resources.
According to him, the Island is of huge interest to his administration.
Abiodun said the visit of the ambassador would only make his administration to act even quicker and ensure that the Republic of Benin that shares boundary with the state does not take advantage of the Island.
He added that state government would set up a team to visit the Island soon on a fact-finding mission and to find out what could be done to assure the people of the area that they have not been forgotten.
The governor further disclosed that his administration had informed the Federal Ministry of Petroleum that the Island was of huge interest to the state government, adding that his government had also began discussions with investors on the way forward.
“Tongeji Island is a place where we do have valuable reserves and I had mentioned to the Federal Ministry of Petroleum that the Island and Ogun Waterside are areas of interest to the state government and we have commenced discussions with others to explore partnership agreements under a Public Private Partnership to see what we can do in terms of prospecting the opportunities that lay beneath the soil in Tongeji Island and Ogun Waterside,” he explained.
He said his administration would fast-track the process to see other services that could be rendered to the people of the area, pledging to take the issue up with the National Boundary Commission (NBC).
The governor said he would also engage the Development Agenda for Western Nigeria Commission (DAWN) and involve Lagos and Oyo State governors that also share border towns with the Republic of Benin.
He lauded Daji for ensuring that the water ways were free and devoid of anarchy, and urged him not to hesitate to bring to his notice, issues that are germane to the security of the region.
In his remark, Oguntuase disclosed that his visit to the state governor was to intimate him on happenings in the area as the closet to the Island, adding that it was important to let the over 1,000 inhabitants of the Island to feel government’s presence, as the Republic of Benin was presently trying hard to lure the people and take over the Island because of the huge petroleum resources embedded beneath the ground. By Omeiza Ajayi
The federal government has announced a six-month amnesty window for irregular migrants in the country to voluntarily turn in themselves to the Nigeria Immigration Service for the purpose of free electronic registration.
Speaking at the Official Commissioning of the Migrant e-Registration and the Passport Data Processing Centres yesterday in Abuja, President Muhammadu Buhari who was represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation SGF, Boss Mustapha, described the move as government’s deliberate commitment to harnessing accurate data of its citizens and statistics of migrants, especially those who wish to stay beyond 90 days within the shores of Nigeria.
He said the centres are significant to the nation’s drive for robust internal security and national development, adding that “while the Migrant e-Registration Centre will collate and store data of non-Nigerians within our shores, the Passport Application Processing Centre, on the other hand, will provide improved issuance of passports and eliminate touting as well as corruption in line with government’s policy on Ease of Doing Business, thus, promoting transparency and efficiency in service delivery”.
On his part, Comptroller General, Nigeria Immigration Service NIS, Muhammad Babandede said the commissioning of the Migrant e-Registration Centre is significant as it kick-starts the e-Registration of all migrants in Nigeria.
He said, the Immigration Regulations 2017, under Section 22 sub section 1 and 2 provides that; “The Service shall maintain a Registry of Immigrants” and “That a register of all Immigrants shall be kept in the registry containing such information and particulars of an Immigrant as the Comptroller General may from time to time direct. It is on this basis that I directed the register to be in an e-form. Source: https://www.vanguardngr.com/2019/07/fg-gives-6-months-grace-for-registration-of-irregular-migrants/ |

It's only in Nigeria that you will spend $3b on petrol subsidies a year so that people can spent hours burning away the petrol in traffic on on journeys of 1 hr that take 4 hours because the roads are so bad and then turn around to borrow money to build roads or abandon road projects because you have no money or go around shouting PPP looking for private individuals to build roads for you. ● I agree with removing fuel subsidy. ● I doubt car tax will pay for all the road needs. Im ignorant to which country does. Im sure u other stuff in mind so im not going to straw man you. ● you pay if you use toll. ● Go ahead fix your alternative routes. isthatso: what we know as the so called Oniru is not alternative route in the original plan. In any event it is kept deliberately in poor state so as not to incentivize people to avoid the toll plaza.
it is one thing deploying resources to chasing down one tanker in a high profile case. it is quite another chasing thousands of everyday Nigerians for peanuts. Are you going to chase a man who lives in Kano who only visited lagos once in a year for 2 crossings of N300? and once people know that what is the incentive to pay? Moreover are you going to tell such a person to register and open an account simply because he is visiting lagos once and probably never will again?
It is impractical and it will fail because it is knee jerk and a recipe for chaos. A man opens the toll for a few hours on one day and suddenly decides he has a solution. traffic flowed because there were no tolls as soo as you introduce tolls whether manual of electronic, traffic will return because defaulters, inconsiderate Nigerians etc will clog up the system arguing and if you allow them free access in the hope of recovering defaulters later, you will find that your recovery rate is poor. Because you wont chase me for small amounts because it's not worth your while and once people know this, they will exploit it, it's human nature and once that happens you will abandon the scheme.
Let me tell you what i think is really going on, somebody has come up with a proposal to the governor, whose purpose is primarily a way of making money from the govt. The guy will make his money, it will fail as they all do, and the next governor will come with his own person with his own scheme to make his own money. Like i said, if traffic were really uppermost on their minds, they would open up all tolls and impose a car tax on all cars, that is high enough that it is worth your while to chasing defaulters and can also be explained as equivalent to the annual cost of using the toll gates plus they would tackle things like danfos, whose indiscriminate stopping in non approved zones are a major factor in the Lekki axis traffic There is alternative route then ok. If theroad is bad demand they fix it abd add to roads. The IGR should be put to use. The police chased him down by simply looking in public records. The police exist in every state so yes. You dont need to make account hence why they scan plates and mail bill. Dont over complicate matter. Your second senario has nothing to do with human nature. After you get late fees and ticket you'll learn. That solves finsncial aspect it's that simple. If you wish test Nigerian prison have fun. If you want to pay car tax so bad you should suggest it to your state representative. The police do need to enforce traffic law but lagos sucks at it. The fact tankers sleep on roads prove that. Do you have proof sny of these politicians are directly making money or this conspiracy theory you made up. |

isthatso: NAIL ON THE HEAD!!!! Things work when there is a buy in between govt and the people, when there is trust between govt and the people, when there is sense of community, not us v them. Things work when they are designed to work and carefully thought through..including enforcement and potential bottlenecks. This has none of these qualities and WILL fail as with most govt's policies. The fact that we are revising the whole toll system is evidence that it has failed...at least from the point of view of the masses. The reason why it failed is it became a revenue machine and not with the interest of the masses.
When the idea of the toll was muted, there was supposed to be an alternative route that ran along the coast. That was shelved because it would mean less traffic and revenue on the toll gate, when Ikoyi bridge was designed, it was never supposed to be tolled, but they decided to toll it and bring untold and hitherto unseen traffic to Lekki residents because not tolling it would divert traffic away from Lekki toll. You can see that the sincerity of purpose was never there for years they have brought hardship to lagosians because their priority was revenue not the masses. This is why these schemes fail!!!
Like I have said if they really are sincere, they would remove all tolls and introduce a statewide annual vehicle tax of 50-100k (which is what someone passing that road pays in tolls every year) which can be paid quarterly but these people are not thinkers!! The solutions I mentioned work, you're just mentioning scenarios that dont happen or will simply get you arrested anyway. When the tanker exploded on lagos road the state figured out the truck came from kano and who it pwned to without scanner. I agres the toll system was a failure since it designed badly. Are you saying there's no alternative route? Are the people on forum saying there is lying? The governor made it toll free on Thursday or something. You'll really see traffic then. Why should the do a state wide tax on road alot of people dont use? If you use road you pay for it with toll or local property tax. Your idea works to. |

you are talking of mailing a bill to a Nigerian, especially and out of towner? laughable. There is a reason why this is a cash and carry society, The average Nigerian has no credibility, the car is probably not registered to his address or his name/address is spelt wrong or backwards. These things work in a society built on trust and underlying structures for tracking people.
October is not far, you will see!! The system works if you make it. License plates srent connected to address now? Do you know from experience or just talking? October isn't far feel free to mention if it doesn't work out. They already have toll tags all they do is add it to this section. |

isthatso: What happens when a man gets there with no money on his account, what happens when a man from benin or Jos or Ilesha gets there? You have to have the money in your account to deduct for the toll to operate.
We are dealing with Nigerians, as they say, know your customer!! If he has no money on his toll card. You get mailed a bill. You can have your account set to automatically top up. If your not from area the toll scans license plate and mails you a bill. The solution shouldn't be over complicated. If they refuse to pay tack on late fees then ticket. If they refuse to pay ticket they gey warrant for their arrest. Going to a Nigerian jail over ticket would suck so most would avoid that. |
