semid4lyfe:Baba, poverty na bad thing. I've seen families settle for 5m before over the loss of their son who is 30 years old. 😢 |
TrebleChamp:Omo! That means I was lucky to get it for 1,400 on Wednesday nìyẹn. |
TemporaryHansel:Let me explain to you what I think happened and how the 20m payment came to being paid to the family : 1. Companies like Dangote who have trucks and other vehicles on the road are exposed to liabilities that may arise from road accident involving their vehicles. Such companies insure their vehicle either comprehensively or at least against third party liabilities like damage to properties of third parties or death of third parties resulting from the accident they caused. 2. Now for insurances taken by the company, the amount the company can get from the insurance company to settle a victim for damage to the third party's property ( like cars, houses, fences, etc) are limited To certain amounts depending on the terms of the insurance policy . The limit may vary from 5m to 10m 15m, 20m, 40m etc. 3. For loss of live of a third party following such Accidents caused by their truck, the limit of compensation payable to the family of a victim following loss of life (like in the case of Phyna's sister) is unlimited but must be reasonable. 4. What point 3 above means is that if somebody dies in an accident caused by an injured truck like Phyna's late sister, the amount the insurance company will pay on behalf of the insured (Dangote group) is unlimited but must be reasonable. The family of the deceased can decide to claim 100m, 200m. 1bn, etc. 5. However, the insurer won't just pay them what they demanded but will subject their demand to test of reaonability. In doing that, the insurer will try to evaluate the deceased's educational qualification, what was her earning capability while alive? Was she working in a big place like NNPC, shell, etc where she earned millions monthly? Does she have a profession that earns her big money annually? Does she have dependants she provides for while alive who will suffer due to her sudden death? Is she the breadwinner of her family? 6. The answer to those questions will form the basis upon which the insurer will make their offer of financial compensation to the family of the deceased. Apparently, if Dangote truck kills a PhD holder who works as an engineer in an oil & gas company and also adjunct lecturer in University of Petroleum resources; the compensation Dangote's insurer will offer the man's family will be different from what they will offer a bus conductor who died in an accident involving a bus and Dangote truck. 7. Now when the offer is made, the family can protest but the insurer would most likely not budge. If Dangote group feels the issue may give them some serous reputational damage, they can accept the insurers offer and then proceed to add more money from the Company's purse to settle the victim's family especially if the family are threatening lawsuit. 8. Unfortunately in this phyna sister's case, we don't know if phyna and family had accepted the 20m, signed some serious binding legal documents that would mean they can't make further claims and she decided to come to social media to call the company out hoping she would get "justice". 9. In all, I hope she seeked legal opinion before taking all the steps she took because taking on a big organization like Dangote group that would be paying almost hundred of millions naira to retain the best lagal practitioners in the country no be play play. PS: This post is not justify whether the 20m paid to the deceased's family was fair or not. It is just to explain what may have happened and how Phyna's fà milk y may not get beyond the 20m they had already gotten from Dangote (most likely pid by their insurers) |
semid4lyfe:Now that you confirmed it's nit like that in the east, I guess it's a Lagos issue then. I thought it was a non-issue at that point and decided to buy 8kg as against 13kg I normally buy ( My cylinder is bigger than the regular 12.5kg and takes more than 13.5kg to fill it sef). Didn't want to stock so much at a high price, but now I feel I should've bought more sef with GloriousGbola confirming the scarcity has been a thing for a while. |
OkpaNsukkaisBae:The last time u bought I think it was ₦990 or ₦980 per kg. I'm not so sure again of the exact price, but I know It was below ₦1k |
GloriousGbola:I wasn't aware of the NLNG strike; I only know of the PENGASSAN vs Dangote face off that had been called off and ordinarily shouldn't affect suph of LPG nationwide normally. As for hotels, eateries and those is hospitality business generally, only God knows how they survive. Doing business in Nigeria is not easy at all. So many unforseen circumstances will just affect Ur business out of nowhere. |
So there's low-key scarcity of LPG(cooking gas) in Lagos ( I'm not sure of other states), and it's being grossly under reported in the media. I also didn't know until this past week during the independence public holiday. I drove to a gas plant where we normally get gas at the official price and noticed they were shut. I spoke to one of the workers and he said they don't have stock hence why they shut their gates. Not far from there I saw a filling station with multitudes queuing up to get gas and I just had to leave there cos I wasn't going to lose hours of my holiday to queue for cooking gas. I eventually bought at the cost of 1,400 per kg from a retailer not far from my my area and I just didn't give the whole thing much thought until yesterday I saw posts on social media showing people queuing up for gas in different parts of Lagos. I guess most people who still have gas reserve won't be able to relate for now. If ur gas finish at this period, u either spend hours on queue to get it cheap or pay a very exorbitant price to refill from reatlilers who still have stock. |
afrodoc:Omo! 😲 So the stage was already set for Abacha to emerge as the president if not for agent death that took him out? So political parties were jointly declaring for him while those who opposed him were either in jail or in exile? Na wa o. OBJ continues to be a lucky man who came back from prison to meet already cooked meal waiting for him. I understand why some Nigerians would never really like him or rate him. I remember my dad would always shade him anytime OBJ appears on TV in his first term in office ; didn't really understand why he just doesn't fancy him. |
Throwback to when people's parents actually campaigned for Abacha to be president after he had either killed or jailed those that opposed his military dictatorship
Normally people supposed identify the family of some of these shameless people in the video and remind them of how shameless their fathers and mothers were. History no supposed kind to them.. |

https://www.premiumtimesng.com/investigationspecial-reports/825701-exclusive-university-disowns-tinubu-ministers-degree-certificate.html?tztc=1 According to Premium times, the current minister for Innovation, science and technology Uche Nnaji is parading a fake university degree and fake NYSC discharge certificate. Their investigation was through and there's no doubt the man was caught red handed. We await what the decision of the FG will be on this |
afrodoc:The point is Buhari didn't do anything significantly better than Jonathan to justify how Jonathan's administration has been chastised as it was uo till date. Remember Buhari was elected to make things better but that never happened considering the data. We shouldn't forget there was censorship of media at some point under Buhari. That being said, I completely agree that it's a shame we are comparing worse president's when we should be comparing the best. It's unfortunate the situation we found ourselves. |
TemporaryHansel: ![]() Na outsider dey introduce Iyeki to Oba wey supposed be hea dof his kingdom (the market inclusive) |
chrisooblog:No I don't. What we are saying is there was problem in the North East when Jonathan was president and he was kicked out because he couldn't solve that security problem... Buhari campaigned on the premise he would solve that north east insecurity problem and didn't mention there will be banditary problem in the north west and that the middle belt/north central's fulani herdsmen/farmers crises will take the turn it took. Neither were we prepared for the southeast becoming a security Flashpoint. All of the aforementioned security problems joined the unresolved boko Haram issue. (Yes I can agree boko Haram was Pounded for a while under Buhari but they were never completely disarmed) You may not understand Sha, but for someone like me who was in the northwest and could be reassuring people down south that the north west was safe back then when everyone was assuming there's no difference between north east with boko Haram issue and the peaceful north west ; it breaks my heart to see that almost all of northwest has been ravaged by Banditary and terrorism. That time when someone serving in Niger can just decide to go visit a friend serving in Kebbi, Sokoto or Zamfara without fear of kidnap. Chai! |
chrisooblog:According to ChatGpt, below are the estimate figures for both Jonathan and Buhari's tenures. The figures are for reported deaths ocassioned by Banditary, terrorism, communal violence, etc ChatGPT gave source of their data o (before somebody will say ChatGpt is not accurate source of data) PS: The data for Jonathan's tenure spans 5 year period while Buhari's covers the entire 8 years period..

Segedinho:That means the pastor Josephine lady na the weapon fashioned against Benin customs and traditions. At least Folashade did not bring someone from Lagos to impose on Benin women as Iyeki general, na daughter of the soil that was willing she used to achieve her agenda. An excerpt in Chinua Achebe's things fall apart reads thus : " How do you think we can fight when our own brothers have turned against us? The white man is very clever." I think that was what happened in this case. |
chrisooblog:The fact is everyone who voted for Buhari instead of Jonathan thought Buhari would resolve the Boko Haram problem and insecurity will be a thing of the past. But at the end of Buhari's tenure Boko Haram were still operative, ISWAP was operative, the IPOB/unknown gunment issue was there, Fulani Herdsmen issue was prevalent and Banditary in the entire North West became a thing. I served in the North West during Jonathan's administration and the entire north west was peaceful. People who were victims of Boko Haram in the northeast were brought to the peaceful north west to settle. In the school I served, they brought hundreds of students of unity schools to be absorbed into the system to ensure the kids continue their education. Guess what happened under Buhari? That particular school I served was attacked by bandits/terrorists under Buhari's government and students plus teachers were kidnapped. They even killed the security operative stationed in the school. Today states like Niger, Kebbi, Sokoto and Zamfara that were free from the Boko Haram madness under Jonathan had been ravaged by Banditary under Buhari's government. As someone who knows the above, there's no way u can convince me Buhari didn't fail as far as security is concerned. There's no way u will give Buhari a pass where u claim Jonathan has failed security wise because on the overall Buhari wasn't better at all. Perhaps, one of these days when I'm chanced I will try to dig out data of lives lost to insecurity during both ex-presidents' tenure for us to put to rest this propaganda that Buhari made the country safer. |
chrisooblog:Nobody is calling a dog a bad name just to kpai it. Yes when Buhari became president they went on offensive against Boko Haram but the truth is Boko Haram was never obliterated despite the Nigerian army experiencing some levels of military successes. That was when "technically defeated" came into our military vocabulary. Initially Buhari government presented an image of Boko Haram threats being neutralized then they doubled down and said they were technically defeated. Don't forget Shekau was making videos mocking the Nigerian state. Let's not also forget ISWAP came into the picture during Buhari's tenure and other insecurity challenges followed suit. Today Boko Haram is still operative in the northeast and one of the reasons why people talking about genocide against Christians and non-muslims are not totally off the mark. If we measure what Buhari and APC promised in 2014/2015 promised against the current reality is, u will arrive at an unbiased conclusion that things have not turned out to be better for Nigeria before APC took over as far as insecurity is concerned. |
izzou:Omo! I'm not even sure Osinbajo can count the number of places he went to pay condolence visits withing their 8 year tenure. Apart from being unable to solve Boko Haram issue till DATE; ISWAP, Fulani Herdsmen, Bandits and Uunknown gunmen were added to our insecurity vocabulary within their 8 years tenure. Garba Shehu is here saying Buhari did not negotiate for Boko Haram as if Jonathan claimed otherwise. I know it is that Jonathan's expectation that is paining him ; he knows Jonathan's expectation was what most Nigerians who voted for them had but were later disappointed. He's only angry that Jonathan is reminding Nigerians of Buhari government's failure. |
semid4lyfe:I noticed it's now better. Ẹ kú iṣẹ́ 👏 |
https://www.nairaland.com/8532424/buhari-never-negotiated-boko-haram Why is Garba Shehu trying to rewrite history? We were all alive when Boko Haram named Buhari as one of their preferred negotiator and Buhari declined. Why is he trying to make it seem like Jonathan wasn't saying something that was out there in the open? Jonathan was also not wrong expecting Boko Haram problem would've been solved by Buhari within first few years of his presidency. That was one of the focal point of Buhari's campaign, we all have memories of how Buhari the general and Osinbajo the pastor/lawyer were touted to be the solution to all of naija's problem by APC in 2014 to 2015. I hate it when people can't just accept they have failed and be trying to deflect talking gibberish |
Semenyo makes it 3-1 off a counter attack. Church Agbasa! |
iamoyindamola:They are a very poor team. |
Thank God Arteta binned this Leno; his body no dey always dey ground at all. The first goal was his fault and now the second looks like something he should've saved if he was well positioned. |
Fulham just dey gbezome. Kluivert makes it 2-1 |
