So from what I can deduce from this link, Monday and Iyaloja general had already done installation of the Iyaloja Edo state before they decided to just pay courtesy visit to the palace for formality sake .

It was in the course of the courtesy visit the Oba poured out his mind and by so doing made them aware what they are doing is not in line with the kingdom’s customs and traditions .

Na wa o.

Highpoint of the ceremony was the installation of Pst. Josephine Ibhaguezejele as the Edo State Market Leader and the installation of “Iye-Ekis” of the various markets across the Local Government Areas of Edo State by the Iyaloja.

‎The event also culminated in a dignified courtesy visit by Her Excellency and the Iyaloja to pay homage to the revered Benin Monarch, His Royal Majesty Oba Ewuare II, Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo, Ogidigan Oba of Benin Kingdom, at the historic Royal Palace
One question I need to ask , does Monday have a wife/First Lady ? I noticed they mention someone as coordinator for the office of First Lady in the particle . What about the First Lady herself ?

The Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II, has cautioned Mrs. Folashade Ojo-Tinubu, daughter of President Bola Tinubu, against referring to herself as Iyaloja-General within the Benin Kingdom, stressing that the title does not exist in Benin culture.

The monarch provided the clarification on Tuesday when Ojo-Tinubu, who is nationally recognised as the Iyaloja-General of Nigerian market women, paid him a courtesy visit at his palace in Benin City.

Ojo-Tinubu, who was accompanied by Mrs. Edesili Okpebholo-Anani, Coordinator of the Edo State First Lady’s office, had informed the monarch that she was in Edo to inaugurate Pastor (Mrs.) Josephine Isi Ibhaguezejele as the Iyeki-General of the state.

Responding, Oba Ewuare II explained that the proper title in Benin tradition is Iyeki, not Iyaloja, adding that the Iyeki plays both administrative and cultural roles in every market and must be confirmed by the palace after being selected by the market women.

The monarch stated that the title of Iyaloja is foreign to Benin, noting that Benin is the home of culture, where their own traditions are upheld. He stated that he had discussed the matter with his chiefs and other knowledgeable persons.

He emphasised that every Iyeki has a special relationship with the palace and performs cultural duties in shrines located within markets.

Chief Osaro Idah, who was authorised by the monarch to clarify further, explained that each market has its independent Iyeki, such as in Oba Market or Ogiso Market.

He said, “Iyeki is independent in every market like the Oba market, Ogiso market, and others. The traders select their leaders from within the markets. The Iyeki does more than the role of coordinating traders.

“There are certain shrines inhabited in all the markets. They play certain roles on behalf of the palace. After their selection, they bring the person to the palace for confirmation.

“The novelty of general Iyeki is alien to Benin custom and tradition. We just believe the Iyaloja is your socio-cultural thing, like you have other clubs.

“It is not in our culture to have a general Iyeki. Iyeki is particular to each market. No one has the right to control the other in another market. The Iyeki in Oba Market has no role to play in Ogiso Market. The Oba established the market for all in the society.”
I must say this is the first time in a very long time I would see a Nigerian traditional ruler with balls of steel speak truth to power without fear of offending anybody with influence in government .👏

I would really like to know what the Iyaloja General did after the Oba’s address . Did she just take the Oba’s words in good faith and headed back to Lagos ? Or did she still went ahead to install her own preferred Iyaloja Benin without deferring to the Oba’s position ?

Anybody with the concluding part of this story should please share .

actually a lot of the nigerian run oil and gas companies are not unionised. since dangote started his refinery he has been chasing validation in the court of public opinion and putting all his business in the public space

i guess he thought he he could pull a mike adenuga where business illiterate people will celebrate him as an altruistic billionaire who makes his choices for the benefit of nigerians while fighting entrenched cabals

if he had not been hogging every news cycle for the past 12 months - this would have passed under the radar

maybe now an energized pengassan will go after the other naija companies who have refused to allow their staff to unionise
This country is just somehow sha .

My only fear with this truce between Dangote and PENGASSAN is that those redeployed staff may still be sacked much later when they are fully absorbed into Dangote Cement, Dangote Sugar, and other subsidiaries . And of course the new people he will employ in Dangote refinery and petrochemicals will not be allowed to unionize ; he will probably have them sign NDA and other legal documents not to join union when they are accepting his employment offer .

The best bet for those sacked 800 staff is for them to start looking for jobs from the moment they are absorbed into the other Dangote subsidiaries .

The good thing is that the public now knows how he treats his staff and anybody applying to a Dangote owned business knows what he or she is up against .

bullshit

this is not over

Dangote is going to keep trying

unfortunately for him - Bola Tinubu has fought unions in the past and learned you cant beat them. He fought NURTW, a much more useless union as governor. he tried to bypass them with cross country. Fashola clashed repeatedly with tanker drivers union when he was governor.

Dangote is going to have to learn to work with PENGASSAN - but he is going to continue to try to make being union as uncomfortable and painfull as possible
He will learn by force . I’m sure PENGASSAN will be keeping tabs on him.

Thus far this is a win for PENGASSAN sha , at least other employers who want to go the way of Dangote by activating Union-bursting have seen what will come thereafter .

Update on Dangote Vs PENGASSAN

“After examining the procedure used in the disengagement of workers, the meeting agreed that the management of Dangote Group shall immediately start the process of taking the disengaged staff to other companies within the Dangote Group, with no loss of pay.

“No worker will be victimised arising from their role in the impasse between Dangote and PENGASSAN. PENGASSAN agreed to start the process of calling off the strike. Both parties agreed to this understanding in good faith,” the communique noted.

There’s really not much to be cheerful about Nigeria’s situation on this 65 years independence anniversary .

I still believe the people would’ve been better off if the 1914 amalgamation hadn’t happened and the present day Nigeria were to be 4 to 6 different smaller nations . I mean smaller nations like we see Benin, Togo, Ghana , etc .

The cultural differences , ideological differences and even mentality differences of the various federating units of this country has proven to be more of burden than a blessing to this country over time .

The stories under this thread are chilling.

Had an experience like two weeks ago where someone came to me in traffic and was begging/part threatening me for money, saying he begs so he doesn't rob, and intermittently he took his hands towards the back of his pocket like he was reaching for a weapon...kuku gave him like 2K cash that was with me, he saw I had more, asked for more and I told him to ask the other guys in the traffic, say me sef don try.

Man was quite hefty and had those manual labour sort of body definition, was probably all begging, but he made clear demands. Na God dey help person for this Naija...someone on Twitter said they saw two dead bodies around Otedola bridge, victims of armed robbery.
Do you wind down while driving in Lagos ? Omo , I my window is always rolled up and I always central lock either in traffic or in motion .

I don’t give room for anybody to come close to the car and be taking to me about anything .

When I am in public bus I also don’t give attention to any beggar or tout that comes near the window o. It’s because of such experiences like urs above I dey always avoid engagement when I’m in public

I was only pointing out to the fact that she was supposed to get married in 2 months' time which means there's a man somewhere who had hoped and planned to spend the rest of his life with her and that hope has just been dashed!

I know someone personally who lost his wife during childbirth about 7 to 8 years ago. Their wedding ceremony was a classy one which pulled a whole lot of people in the financial services because both bride and group have worked in nice companies. That bros is yet to move on emotionally and maritally till now. The loss was so devastating for him that he's just dedicated himself to work, work and more work since then.

That is what happens when they give someone like that such platforms. The organizers should've invited someone as musically versatile and cerebral as Saheed Osupa instead of Taye Currency. Currency is not worthy of the platform and he confirmed it with his yeye performance.

Imagine singing "weyrey la fin wo weyrey " at the coronation of a first class Oba like the Olubadan. Something that even hip-Hop and younger artistes like Olamide , Wizkid, Davido, etc won't do. And I learnt that Currency's son is in the Oyo state House of assembly as chief whip or something like that. The widow can be seen in the video cussing out the state government and DSS for not doing enough to protect their community . She claimed Miyetti Allah killed her husband along with other victims . She didn’t make mention of any illegal mining .

She alleged DSS took guns from local hunters(guns which they were using to protect themselves) and Miyetti Allah had guns which they used to perpetuate the act

This shows something important, the effect of a red card is more about the psychology of the players than the actual number of men on the pitch.

Most times when a player is sent off, teams immediately go defensive. Not because 10 vs 11 is always unplayable, but because the players already believe they are at a disadvantage. The mentality shifts from “we can win” to “let’s just survive.” That mindset is usually the real problem, not just the missing man.

This happens often. In many games, you see players who hardly touch the ball or make any impact for 90 minutes. Such a player is already a minus one for the team. On paper it’s 11 vs 11, but in reality it’s 10 vs 11.
For example, Lukaku once played a full match with just 7 touches in 90 minutes. That’s basically like playing with 10 men. Yet the team didn’t fall apart, because mentally they still believed it was 11 vs 11. Psychologically, they felt we are complete, But if that same non-contributing player gets a red card, you will see how the team react negatively on the field.

It happens all the time, strikers with fewer than 15 touches, wingers who disappear. In those cases, the team is already playing short one, but it doesn’t shake them because their minds don’t accept it.

Now compare that with a red card situation. Once the referee givev a red card, the whole mindset changes. Coaches shuffles tactics, players drop deeper, energy levels shift. Instead of attacking, the team start reacting. That’s why we so often see teams defend too much after a red.

I believe a red card should not always break a team, what break a team after the red card is the reaction of the coach and that of players, and the mentality they adopt after the card
Baba, all this thing u write will remain quotable quotes until ur team collects red card against a very quality opposition.

Trust me, if Chelsea had collected red card against the current Liverpool team or previous Liverpool team that had Salah, Mane and Firminho who were chasing Man city in title race with one point gap; u go believe!

Red card weakens a team structurally and tactically; it is only if ur opponents are weak u would be right to not go cautious after being a man down. See last season that Arsenal was leading Man city 2-1 then Arsenal went a man down. Despite Last season not being one of Pep's best season at city, it took Arsenal bus parking for most of the second half for them to get away with 2-2 as final score. If any other coach not named Arteta had been in charge of Arsenal, that game would've ended in a loss for Arsenal with the way city launched attacks after attacks. If you try to attack a team like city with a man down, they have enough quality players to pick hole in ur team shape and set up a beast of a striker like Halland. It will end in tears bro.

Suddenly, Dangote has the right to decide because he built his with his money, but Chevron, Shell, 11, Seplat, collected isusu from Nigerians, so they don't have the right.
Nigerians just like to foool themselves and will put mouth in things they don’t even understand . The same Dangote is well known for his anti-labor stand even in markets outside Nigeria hence why he regularly gets into trouble with labour unions .

In the other markets like Zambia for example they don’t say because he’s a foreign investor who brought forex to their country they will then allow him to treat their citizens who work for him unfairly . They allow the law takes it course and the unions have their way at the end of the day.

In Nigeria on the other hand, u will just see people arguing out of point to defend him either because of their political leanings or because of their incurable ignorance

Dangote knows how to press the ignorant button of Nigerians. Now, everybody is lamenting how NUPENG is collecting 50,000 per truck.

Why I don't know and support whatever that levy is, it is very insignificant in this matter

50,000 naira for 30,000 litres means nothing. No Petrol station will even reflect that on the price. That's like 2naira on each litre, which obviously if it is added, you need to buy 500 litres to pay 1,000 out of that levy.

What has 50,000 levy have to do with obeying the labour laws of the country?
One thing I’ve come to realize is that a lot of Nigerians are stupiiid , as in very stupiiid and that is a fact irrespective of the number of degrees and professional qualifications attached to their profile on LinkedIn or the blue tick to their handles on twitter and IG. The way people drop dumb takes over this Dangote vs PENGASSAN issue has further confirmed my beliefs on that .

You will see takes like : “ Workers are free to unionize , but Dangote is also free to not want unionism in his refinery ; so he’s right to sack all Nigerian staff who opted to join PENGASSAN” . You will also see them arguing with u when u are trying to educate them ; they will conclude by saying “ If you don build your own refinery, allow the workers to unionize na make we see if u won’t regret it “.

Like these guys are so ignorant and talk as if all these IOC’s like Shell , Chevron, Total, etc who have been in Nigeria for decades have not been allowing unionism and have been having smooth employee relations . E reach Dangote turn, he claims unionism equals to sabotage of his operation .

The only reason Dangote doesn’t want his staff joining PENGASSAN is because he knows every two years they will call for a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) that will see their salaries adjusted in line with the current economic realties and improve their general welfare in line with the company’s earnings . PENGASSAN will not allow the management to be taking in tens of millions of dollars while the staff generating the income are living from hand to mouth . This is what Dangote is not prepared for and thinks he can use emotions and propaganda to dodge .

What PENGASSAN is dragging with him has no political undertone at all; but a lot of dumb Nigerians have been programmed to see things from the angle of “ the cabals don’t want Dangote refinery to succeed “ . It must be said that Dangote has been used to abusing the rights of his staff to unionize in the fertilizer space , cement space and other industries he’s invested . So trying to make him obey the law in the oil and gas space caught him unawares ; hence why he’s spending so much on influencers to change the narrative on the mind of dumb Nigerians being manipulated without their consent .
