The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has released its findings on the July 13th Air Peace incident, where a Boeing 737-500 overshot the runway at Port Harcourt International Airport, raising fresh concerns over airline safety standards in Nigeria.

The flight had departed Lagos with 96 passengers and seven crew members, and weather conditions at landing were reportedly clear, The Bureau News gathered. Investigators revealed the aircraft touched down almost three-quarters of the way into the 3,000-metre runway, leaving no room for safe deceleration. The plane eventually skidded onto the grass verge, but fortunately, all passengers disembarked without injury.

A disturbing discovery emerged during the investigation: both pilots tested positive for alcohol, while a flight attendant tested positive for cannabis. The Bureau described this as a serious breach of aviation discipline, professionalism, and safety culture.

Further analysis revealed that the first officer had recommended a go-around when it became clear that the approach was unstable. However, the 64-year-old captain, with over 10,000 flight hours, overruled him and insisted on landing. Aviation experts warn that such authority gaps in the cockpit are dangerous and can prevent critical safety decisions from being implemented.

This is exactly one of the good sides of unionism; it allows members ask questions and get answers from management without fear of intimidation or threat of sack.

Even when the management wants to sack staff for disciplinary issues, they will have to set up a disciplinary committee which will include members of management and members of the union who would give the concerned staff right to defend himself before jointly taking a decision.

In the event a company has to downsize by necessity, the union will hold management responsible to provide terminal benefits to them and not just sack them and leave them out in the cold with their last month salary.

I think Nigerians generally are used to being oppressed so they are willing to take anything thrown at them and even tell you that wants to protest to take same and be grateful you even have anything thrown at you.

There are independents selling for 845 and 850 in this Lagos. I bought from one of them last week Friday during the holiday and their fuel pump is no different from the normal NNPC and MRS own considering the where the fuel reached in the fuel guage.

If you've ever worked in a workplace that allows membership of labor unions, you will understand the enormous benefits that comes with belonging to a union. You will also understand that Dangote compelling his workers to sign an undertaking not to join any union is just his own way of oppressing them and making sure they don't demand some benefits that are supposed to be rightfully theirs in line with industry standards.

From my personal experience, I have seen how union help the staff to hold management up to their responsibility. I have seen a particular allowance go from N350k to 1.2m simply by union pressing management for a review in line with current economic realities. That is the kind of benefit those Dangote staff will be missing out on the moment Dangote is allowed to get away with compelling drivers to renounce affiliation with labor union of their choice.

This team he's coaching has no identity and no recognizable playing pattern. It doesn't even look like they have a manager who is in charge of the team coaching them to play to his instructions.

For example, in today's match the south Africans look more coordinated in their play. They found a way to play the ball on their feet and switch play from one side to the other when on the attacking foot. They knock the ball around with ease ; much better than we do.
