In most Southern states post graduation the people who moved to Lagos are either the most or 2nd

I served in the north but schooled in Lagos .

None of the people we served in the same PPA during same set made it to Lagos except those who were originally resident in Lagos .

Myself and one other lady who lived in Ifo , Ogun state came back to Lagos . Yet I had friends who are based in Kaduna , Jos ( he’s now a lecturer at UNIJOS) , Abia state , 2 from Delta state , Kano , Bauchi and Oyo state .

Some of them became self employed in their state and others got job jobs with their state civil service over time .

I think you are just making spurious assumptions that don’t even align with experience of someone like me .

It is not even about 1-2 isolated world class hospitals. Most casualties in Nigeria are not due to lack of world class hospitals but difficulty in accessing bare minimum DECENT healthcare.

Lagos needs maybe 6 quality hospitals with expanded services and capacity. These hospitals have to be strategically placed around the state and not concentrated in one area. We need 5 LASUTH quality hospitals not 1 Cedars-Sinai quality.

Upgrade 4-5 more hospitals to LASUTH standard to cover other parts of the state and reduce the workload on LASUTH and LUTH. Employ more specialists and create more residency slots. Expand bedspace and theatre suites.

Additionally, establish some sort of functioning health insurance scheme whereby all tax-paying citizens have at least some of the services in the public hospital free or subsidized (that word again) by the government.

Now evidence has shown that if government spends responsibly and accountability is a watchword , the state can actually afford these things .

Last year Funsho Doherty took his time to study the 2025 Lagos state budget and questioned some of the frivolities included in the budget that cost the state billions of naira without adding any value to the state . Imagine if such funds were channeled to 😏improve healthcare infrastructure of govt hospitals . Shebi we will not be seeing cases of someone being referred from Epe general hospital to LASUTH or being referred from general hospital to LASUTH, only for them to give up the ghost on the way 🤦‍♂️

I think at least double based on the few areas I visited when I travel there

By my estimation people have left Lagos to relocate to their home state ( I know people who retired and went back to their villages ) , I know a lot of people who have died since 2006. In fact , almost all my friends have lost a parent or both ; even me I’ve lost a parent .

Hamzat will not capture these cases in his data bacause it doesn’t feed into his bias .

All of us go school and we do statistics as a course at one point or the other . If he wants anybody to take the date serious , he will bring the death rate , birth rate , morbidity rate , and even rate of people buried in Muslim cemeteries without death certificates being obtained to the fore . That’s only when we would reason his data and see if there’s element of truth in it .

The point is if our leaders set their priorities right , nothing stops a state like Lagos from expanding the capacity of LASUTH . Lagos state is 4cking richer than 10 states put together .

Nothing stops federal government from equipping LUTH in Lagos , UBTH in Edo state , UCH in Ibadan , to be world class . When these facilities are upgraded and services are available to the people , the quality of healthcare in those facilities will improve and so will the life expectancy of people in those states .

Some of us talking about these things don’t hate government , we just want things to be better for the common man . Government officials and politicians can easily fly abroad for treatment , but not most citizens can do that . We are calling the government out because we know they can afford to fix these things even with the so called meagre income of the government

You are a learned man , you should ask Hamzat how he came about his figures . How did he confirm the number of those who stay behind and those who go back to their respective state of residents after conducting their business in Lagos ?

In the City metropolitan area that I live, according to chatgpt there are about 100 big hospitals(400 to 1000 beds), only about 8 are govt owned, about 35 are religious organizations owner, 15 secular private non profit, 40 private for profit.

Its a disaster to have 200 beds and 20000 needing a bed

Well, I live and work in Lagos so I can’t speak for other states .

I know hospitals like Evacare , Lagoon hospitals , First Cardiologists , Duchess hospital ( where Osinbajo had surgery even as a sitting vice president ) , Redinton hospital
, etc have state of the art medical facilities which majority of the average citizens cannot afford when push comes to shove .

I have utilized the services of Evercare hospital in Lekki (which was paid for by my employers ) , but I know even a Director in Lagos state civil service cannot afford the cost of some of these facilities from out of pocket .

So, that leaves the civil servant , trader , military officers , paramilitary officers , and other common men at the mercy of LASUTH and LUTH where the everyday chorus is “No bed space “.

Well, some religious organizations with universities that have medical schools have decent teaching hospitals but they are not cheap .

Then there are private hospitals too with world class facilities too and they are equally not cheap .

The problem is if you have a serious medical emergency , before they take you to some of those facilities (even if you have the funds ) , you may not make the trip due to the distance .

This is the sad reality of Nigerian healthcare system . This grieving mother just confirmed my personal experience at LASUTH about how they would give your patient drip in the car simply because there’s no bed
