Very limited list. What about the Kebbi and Yobe state governors? Those guys don't talk much or show off like Makinde and Sanwo-olu. But they are really trying in their respective states |

Soso990240:Bullion vans are not for banks alone. Mercedes have their own bullion vans; even schools use bullion vans to safeguard valuables. And jewelers use bullion vans to move jewelries to their stores. You people need to read extensively so you don't go out of the country to embarrass the rest of us. |
GoodofNaija:And this is supposed to be what? A rebuttal? Oga, bounce abeg!!! |
respect80:Bro, your ignorance is staggering. Segalink na my person, but he disappointed me on this one. Bola Tinubu is a big businessman with a conglomerate of businesses. On what suspicion would you think that he is living beyond his means if he hires a bullion van to transport money or jewelry to his home? It would be a different thing if it were Hush Pupi whose source of income many don't know but who lives large. That is why it would appear like Yahoo Boys are the ones mostly falling on the radar of EFCC. And yes, nabbing Yahoo boys is one of the jobs of EFCC as financial crimes include advanced free fraud. Without a strong petition against Tinubu, it would be hard for EFCC to swing into action against him. You can't just petition the organization and accuse Tinubu of financial crimes and you expect the organization to start investigation on that score. Your petition must carry weight. |
What interests me is knowing if Mike was used to doing this before BBN or is still playing his BBN game? Many of his fans perceive him to be a good husband because he didn't have an affair in the house. They forgot to factor in variables such as cameras. Assuming there were no cameras, would Mike have remained faithful? I have sampled a population of married people between the ages of 28-35 and I have noticed that a relatively large percentage of those who do social media lovey-dovey are not anywhere as loving as those who keep their marriages private. |
This is the fourth boxer to die within a space of 4 months this year alone. It is about time the sport is banned. I was an amateur boxer, and I liked and like boxing. I come from a family of boxing lovers. But honestly, it is just about the right time to end the sport. |
owowa145:We are talking about Tacha. I already gave him credit for Tiwa. But we cannot overhype him. |
owowa145:Nothing top notch here. Anyone with half a brain would know that someone like Tacha needs a PR team to launder her image. Even Mercy and Ike would need a PR team, if not Ike might threaten to drown anyone who insults him on social media. He tried with Tiwa Savage, but he has not done anything extraordinary with Tacha yet. |
Maryclaire1:That is probably from her PR team, and not her. The PR team is there to cultivate good reputation for her. Now, they have made Zlatan look like a donkey. ![]() |
ALEXIS0240:If Joshua wins the rematch, it wouldn't mean that the original match was fixed. Do you know that AJ almost died in the ring that day? He was concussed and could have died. You people are refusing to give Andy Ruiz the honor he deserves. The only loss Ruiz has suffered in his career was a controversial one. Many believed that he beat Joseph Parker. Obviously, Andy Ruiz beat AJ because he was more skillful, and had faster arms. I have often said it here that AJ was robotic, had poor footwork and nonexistent head movements. Some people called me a hater. But we can all see now after Ruiz exposed AJ. I mean, AJ practically walked into a concussive punçh. He also did not have an answer to Ruiz's fast hands, and he was on the backfoot for the first time in his professional career. It was obvious that he underrated Ruiz, and he paid for it. Exactly what happened to Lennox Lewis and Mike Tyson before him which resulted in some of the biggest upsets in boxing history. |
Makuos19:Such pointed dissents from multiculturalist orthodoxy may explain the strange fact that although Soyinka is, by most accounts, a better and more interesting writer than Achebe, he is not nearly so well known. https://www.claremont.org/crb/article/up-from-colonialism/ Well known does not mean better writer. So, according to most accounts, even though Soyinka is not as well read as Achebe, he is a better and more interesting writer. |
Makuos19:Oga, I asked a simple question. Is JK Rowling greater than Achebe? Remember, she is more widely read than Achebe? Another question, why do people think Achebe was greater than Soyinka? Is it because he was a better writer or because he is more widely read? |
Makuos19:If you are versed in African literature, you will not be wondering. Moreover, the writer of the article said "contemporary" and still managed to squeeze Achebe onto the list. |
Makuos19:So, you don't know JK Rowling? You people are not informed, but you want to argue books. The only writers you know are Achebe and Soyinka, and the only Achebe book you know is Things Fall Apart. Well, for your information, JK Rowling wrote the Harry Potter books. |
Makuos19:That was someone's article. The person even placed Ben Okri over Nurudeen Farah and Ngugi Wa Thiongo. |
Makuos19:So, JK Rowling is greater than Achebe since her books are more widely read than Things Fall Apart? Kai, you people need education. |
Makuos19:SMH... Why are you people so retarded. Achebe is not even a playwright, so he doesn't fit into this issue. |
Makuos19:Kai, you have comprehension issues. One of the finest to write in the English language. It didn't specify. It didn't say one of the finest African. Just imagine the dummies I waste my time arguing with. |
Makuos19:What point are you trying to make here? Are you saying Achebe is greater than Soyinka simply because Nadine Gordimer called him father of modern African literature ![]() |
Makuos19:Oga, just go away. You keep on making blunders after blunders. Just save yourself further embarrassment. Things Fall Apart is not the most widely read in the world. Even the Harry Potter books are more widely read than Things Fall Apart. |
Makuos19:One of the finest in the world, not one of the finest African. As in, in the history of playwrighting, Soyinka is one of the finest. Show me where Achebe has been described as one of the finest writers (not African writer)? |

Makuos19:Seems like you have comprehension problems. Why bring in the translation angle when you know it doesn't matter? Is the worth of book determined by number of translations? By your logic, Rhapsody of Realities is the best Christian book. |
TSRC:Nothing subjective? OK, tell me why you think Achebe is more influential than Soyinka? Rhapsody of Realities by Chris Oyakhilome is currently the most translated book after the Holy Bible. By your logic, Chris Oyakhilome is the most influential author out of Africa, abi no be so? Soyinka was once head of the drama society in the world, he was once head of the editorial team of the Encyclopedia Britannica. He has contributed over 30 plays to Literature, and he is published everywhere from Oxford to Cambridge University presses, while Achebe is published only with Heinemann. So, I don't understand what you mean by influential. Does influential mean having the most translated book? In Literature, Soyinka is more influential in drama and poetry. Achebe's only claim to greatness is one book. When people talk about playwrights, they can never miss calling Soyinka. But in prose, they may not even remember Achebe. More books are getting translations and Things Fall Apart is dropping on the list. Very soon, it won't even be noticed. Soyinka would continue to be remembered as the first black African winner of the coveted Nobel Prize in Literature. |
Makuos19:Rhapsody of Realities by Chris Oyakhilome has 1000 translations. By your logic, it is greater than Things Fall Apart abi no be so ![]() Soyinka was not jealous. Rather, he educated illiterates like you. Modern African Literature did not begin in 1957 when Achebe published his Things Fall Apart. It began long before that. Moreover, Achebe is called father of modern African literature not because he was a great writer, but because he was fortunate to be the first African to publish an African novel written in English which saw great success in England. Also, he began the African Writers Series which helped many African writers get published. It is more like Ali Baba who is respected in Nigeria comedy. I don't find him funny, but he is respected solely on the fact that stand-up comedy in Nigeria owe him a lot. So, that appellation does not have a place in African literature. No other continent goes about saying "father of modern European literature/ father of modern American literature" Literature flows, and it is hard to tell when modernity got mixed up into it. Go to Google and type "father of modern European literature" and the results you would get are about "father of modern African literature". You people ought to be ashamed of yourselves. |
TSRC:Influential is subjective too. And even the greatness of scientific discoveries are subjective as well. One person might feel that one discovery is more relevant than the other, which may not necessarily be so. Only Igbos have problems with the 1986 Nobel Prize in Literature. Go to the Nobel website and you would see that even though the Nobel Prize has generated controversies with some writers that they gave the Prizes to, no one had a problem with Soyinka getting it in 1986. The Nobel Prize in Literature had been Eurocentric until 1986, and in 1986, the Committee decided to open up the prize to writers from other continents. The Committee unanimously agreed on Soyinka. In some instances, they fight over choices. But in the case of Soyinka, they all agreed that as at that time, he was the most relevant nonEuropean writer. |
TSRC:It was Nadine Gordimer (an African) who called Achebe father of modern African literature. It was just the opinion of one person. And Nadine Gordimer was never a member of the Nobel Committee. You people are just ignorant. At least, read well before coming publicly to display excruciating ignorance. |
Makuos19:No one knows. It was Nadine Gordimer who called Achebe father of modern African literature. How the word of just one person became the truth for you is beyond me. |
Osagyefo98:You are very ignorant. Wole Soyinka is more of a playwright than a novelist. Plays are usually short because they are written to be acted on stage so you can't afford to bore people with long plays. When a playwright sets out to write, he has to think about writing a play that can be acted in the space of one hour. So, the typical play is usually 50-60 pages (about 1 hour of acting time). That should be around 20-25,000 words. If you have ever read Soyinka's prose, none of Achebe's books are as voluminous. It was even Achebe who wrote very slim books. His Things Fall Apart is just 150 pages while Soyinka's Season of Anomy is over 300 pages. Aside There was a Country , none of Achebe's works go beyond 250 pages. Some of Soyinka's works, using original copies: Season of Anomy - over 300 pages. The Man Died - over 400 pages The Interpreters - over 300 pages Ake - over 200 pages. We Must Set Forth at Dawn - over 500 pages. Achebe's books: Things Fall Apart - 150 pages Arrow of God - over 200 pages. No Longer at Ease - over 200 pages (due to the large font) A Man of the People - over 150 pages. Anthills of the Savannah - over 200 pages. There Was a Country - over 400 pages. |
