On Biafra we stand, not Igbo presidency –BIG The Biafran Internal Government (BIG) Elders-in-Council, yesterday, faulted the decision of Ohanaeze Ndigbo and some politicians in the region advocating for Nigeria’s president of Igbo extraction. The council stated this in a communiqué made available to Daily Sun after its plenary session in Owerri. In the meeting presided by its chairman and president, Chief Solomon Ordu Chukwu, the elders resolved that what Ndigbo needed was total change of system and not change of individuals at the helms of affairs of the country. The communiqué signed by National Director for Special Duties, Chief Arinze Igbani and Director of Information, Elder Chris Mocha, dismissed Ohanaeze Ndigbo’s quest, saying Ndigbo had suffered untold hardships in the “failed” Nigeria project. The group said those still insisting on one Nigeria were poor students of history, and either they were benefiting from the current “gravely flawed system” or were intellectually dishonest and lacked creative imagination. BIG said it was an Igbo man, Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe that fought for the independence of Nigeria in 1960, but was not trusted to rule the country. “As the Governor- General before Nigeria’s independence, Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe was to head the government, but he was betrayed by the same people he liberated through the efforts of Britain, and he was made a ceremonial president, thus ceding all powers to Alhaji Tafawa Balewa, a Fulaniman whom they (Britain) trusted to work with,” the group said. BIG expressed the fear that two things were likely to happen in the country, either the Fulani with the support of Britain and multinational companies involved in lucrative contracts in Nigeria would eventually succeed in their alleged planned conquest of the whole country or Niger Area, or the country would break into six independent countries in no distant time, “which may result in waste of lives and properties, if not properly handled.” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m7uzRizYDcI |

codemaniacs:The myths about Nzeogwu’s coup Exactly 50 years that a group of young and idealistic soldiers attempted to bring about a revolution in Nigeria’s politics via the barrel of a gun. The coup, a first of its kind on our soil, marked the beginning of a chain of events that have shaped the social-political milieu of this nation. The coup was said to have been planned and executed by Major Chukwuma Kaduna Nzeogwu, although some allege that it was indeed the idea of another plotter by name Major Ifeanyi Arinze Ifeajuna. Nzeogwu’s role in the coup cannot, however, be diminished. The putsch sought to bring sanity to the Nigerian political landscape, some sort of cleansing for the Augean stables. The new country which had been birthed in hope of a strong and virile nation for the black race was at that point mired in what many would call a downward spiral of catastrophes. The nation was surely adrift, as its leaders sought to engage each other in a macabre dance laden with ethnic tones. Corruption was rife, democracy then was subjected to the whims and caprices of the ruling class, or should I say the ruling NPC? The leader of the opposition, Obafemi Awolowo, had been arrested and jailed on trumped-up charges, his rival Samuel Akintola was rigged in as premier of the Western Region sparking the crisis known as “Operation Wetie”. And so on January 15th, these patriots struck and the rest, as they say, is history. One thing led to another as there was a countercoup, two senseless pogroms and a civil war. All these events did have reverberations of the first coup which can be understood given the myths that were associated with it. These myths (or should I call them canards?) about the real intentions of these soldiers have been sold to us. The date, January the 15th, has been marked as a day which will live in infamy, with a number of persons made to suffer as the scapegoats of our history. This I intend to correct! Myth 1: The coup was an Igbo coup The fact that of the five leaders of the coup, four were of Igbo extraction does not make the coup of January 15th an Igbo coup. This argument stems from the fact that the ultimate aim of that coup was to release and install Obafemi Awolowo as prime minister. Surely, an Igbo coup would have rooted for a Nnamdi Azikiwe or a Michael Okpara as prime minister and not an Awolowo. Myth 2: That the killings were lopsided Within this thread, arguments would also arise that the within the victims of the coup, only one was of Igbo extraction, the rest were either of Northern or Western extraction. But history tells us that the likes of Ironsi, who foiled the coup in the South, and Ojukwu were targets too. Michael Okpara escaped simply because of the presence of Archbishop Makarios and though a number of persons might make light this argument, it will interest them to know that the coup had been scheduled a week earlier but the parties involved shelved it owing to the presence of foreign dignitaries attending the Commonwealth summit in Lagos then; a coup then would have cast Nigeria and the soldiers responsible in bad light. Myth 3: That the coup brought about tribal hubris On the subject of the coup bringing about tribal hubris in Nigeria, pray, what did the defection of legislators elected on the platform of the NCNC to Awo’s Action Group bring? Or what did the forceful removal of Eyo Ita as premier of the Eastern Region bring? Now as prominent Nigerians with knowledge of the coup have asserted, and as I have buttressed here, the coupists had plans of making Awolowo prime minister. I then wonder if there was also some form of tribal hubris in such a plan. Let me also state that it will be most unfair for anyone to affix the puerile suspicion of Ndigbo by the rest of Nigeria on Nzeogwu and his coup since such a suspicion is as old as Nigeria itself and Nigeria did not begin in 1966. The tribal hubris question waves at Nzeogwu later fighting on the Biafran side. Nzeogwu, however, is not to blame. This is because Biafra was never a secessionist agenda in the mould of Moi Tshombe’s Katanga. Far from it, Biafra was the last line for the security of the people of then Eastern Region; Biafra then was justified following the countercoup and the two senseless pogroms. Should Nzeogwu have pitched tent with the federal forces? Had Gowon whether as a usurper or leader shown enough leadership to the battered people of that region? The answer is no! Without these myths Nzeogwu’s coup, like every other coup (except the July 29th, 1966 coup) in Nigeria, was largely justified. Any attempt at its revision will obviously be in bad faith. Material and cosmic relations bring them together and even bind them almost in ways inseparable. In the past few years, the number of inter-marriages between Igbo and Yoruba have tripled. The third generation of Igbo in Yoruba territories speaks Yoruba as their first language. Many of them when they travel to the East and are to return would say they were ‘going back home’. Even if Biafra emerges today I do not see how the cordial relationship between Igbo and Yoruba would be a minus. In Yoruba villages, Igbo have remarkable dominion. To upturn this amazing cobweb for any reason is tactless, reckless and irresponsible. On both sides, there are extremists, . It is the responsibility of leaders on both sides, young and old, men and women, armed and defenseless people alike, to exterminate base instincts and advance values that protect and glorify the lowest and highest common factors of unity and prosperity between the two great empires. This should be the stand of any responsible people or individuals. This is the position that will advance humanity and protect the heritage of the two great nations |

Falana, Ozekhome, Other Senior Advocates Of Nigeria Fault Buhari’s Warning Against Court Summons After Office Their views came as a response to the President’s statement during his interview on Channels Television on Wednesday where he said that anybody who asked him to come and give any evidence in any court when he leaves office would be in trouble because he already made sure all important issues are on record. Some Senior Advocates of Nigeria have said that President Muhammadu Buhari should be ready to account for his actions when he leaves office next year. Their views came as a response to the President’s statement during his interview on Channels Television on Wednesday where he said that anybody who asked him to come and give any evidence in any court when he leaves office would be in trouble because he already made sure all important issues are on record. Asked by his interviewers what comes to his mind about 2023 elections, he said, “It’s not my problem.” Asked further if he had no interest in who succeeds him, he said, “No, let him come whoever it is. All important things I made sure are on record. “Nobody should ask me to come and give any evidence in any court, otherwise, whoever it is would be in trouble because all important things are on record. I made sure about that. Important issues are all on record.” But in their separate reactions, Senior Advocates of Nigeria including Femi Falana, Ifedayo Adedipe, Mike Ozekhome and Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa said the constitution does not give immunity to former presidents and so Buhari should be ready to be questioned when he leaves office. Falana said he believed Buhari was misquoted in that part of the interview, noting further that the orders that could not be enforced against him at the moment because of his immunity would be enforced when he leaves office. He stressed that the President would be called to account locally and internationally. Making reference to a recent report by The Guardian titled, ‘BPP kicks against award of ICTN contract to medical firm’, the lawyer said while still in office enjoying immunity from prosecution Buhari was already being indicted by a Nigerian Government agency. Falana also made reference to several court judgments secured by an anti-corruption group, Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project, against the Buhari regime. He said, “Right now, he (Buhari) is already being called upon to give account not to talk of after he leaves office. These orders are going to be enforced. “More accountability cases are likely to be filed between now and 2023 and thereafter. In view of the avalanche of petitions alleging extrajudicial killings by security forces, the Special Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court is likely to open investigations that may implicate top officials of the Federal Government. "While he is still in power, even the BPP is indicting him. People have gone to court to say, ‘You and (Rotimi) Amaechi can’t award this contract.’ Now he enjoys immunity; when he is out of office, he won’t enjoy any immunity. So, he should be expecting to be called upon to give account. And if the records are there, he will have to come forward to present the records. Those records are not in the public domain. “Many of the times you request for information under FOI (Freedom of Information Act), they won’t reply. So, how can he say the records are there?” Falana added that if nobody was in trouble “even now that he (Buhari) is in office enjoying immunity and has all the forces, instruments of oppression and intimidation and people are suing him, demanding accountability, when he is no longer in power, his immunity would have expired, so he could be called to account (for his actions) locally and internationally”. Adegboruwa expressed discontent with the President’s comment, describing it as an attempt to blackmaik this successor in office even though his immunity, according to Section 308 of the constitution, ends upon the expiration of his tenure. He said,” What the President has said is purely emotional blackmail and is using style to threaten his successor, which is unexpected of a President that claims to be fighting corruption. The person fighting corruption cannot himself be running away from investigation or probe because that would be inconsistent with the President’s open declaration to be ahead in anti-corruption fight. “The immunity granted to him is limited while in office, and once he concludes his tenure he can be arrested, like every other citizen. There is no law that protects an ex-public officer from being summoned by the court to give evidence or account of their tenure. Under section 6 of our constitution, the courts are given the right and power to exercise jurisdiction over any citizen, and once the President completes his tenure in 2023, he should be expecting that a lot of times, he would be summoned to account for his tenure; the railway project, Chinese loans, humongous amount spent on electricity and we are only getting darkness and a lot of things the President has to account for, so he should be ready. As a matter of fact, he should be ready.” Adegboruwa noted that in the countries Nigeria copied its democracy from, some presidents had had to waive their immunity to be probed. “I think if the President has nothing to hide, he should be the first person to attend court if there is any matter that seeks to interrogate his tenure in office. “I don’t want to agree that he does not want to be held accountable, of course he can be compelled to appear in court after his tenure ends. He can be summoned, the law of evidence permits that, and the constitution does not extend the immunity to after office,” he added. Further commenting on the issue, Ozekhome described the President’s statement as a display of impunity and disregard for the rule of law. He said, “President Muhammadu Buhari loses his immunity enshrined in section 308 of the 1999 constitution by May 29, 2023. He becomes an ordinary citizen liable to be subpoenaed to ‘answer any questions’ from any court of law. He can never run away from it. "He said all important things are on record. It’s all well and good. But where clarifications or evidence are required, he is subject to being invited like any other citizen to come with answers. “Indeed, he is more obligated than other citizens because he is the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. This kind of statement shows a mindset of disdain for the rule of law and due process. It is not acceptable at all. I humbly condemn it.” Meanwhile, 83-year-old Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Robert Clarke, said the President had the impetus to say such because no former Nigerian President had been questioned after leaving office. He said, “It is a tricky situation. Normally if a President resigns or leaves office and does many things wrong, the succeeding government can call him to come and account for what he did while in office but because it has not happened maybe that is why the President is feeling that way.”

Buhari Not In Charge Of Nigeria As Commander-in-Chief --Ijaw Youth Council The group queried if the President was still in charge of Nigeria as Commander-in-Chief, saying from all indications, he had lost control of his government. The Ijaw Youth Council has berated President Muhammadu Buhari for failing to inaugurate a substantive board for the Niger Delta Development Commission. Peter Timothy Igbifa, National President of IYC, in a statement described Buhari’s action as an anomaly. Igbifa noted that the tenure for the NDDC sole administrator expired on December, 31, 2021. He said, “Something is certainly wrong somewhere as to who runs the country as president. "The normal Buhari that the common Nigerian knows would have inaugurated the NDDC board at least as a new year gift to the Niger Delta people who gave him the good will of regional peace like no other.” Speaking on the environmental damages the activities of multinational oil companies have caused states in the Niger Delta region, the council expressed resolve to inaugurate environmental specialists to assess the level of damage on the environment and come up with strategic blueprint that would serve as a basis for their environmental advocacy ahead of the UN Assembly 2022. The council further expressed plan to address the UN congress on the abandoned Niger Delta wetland, which is the third largest in the world, stressing that they would not relent in advocating and engaging other means to drive the wetland conservation until they receive the $5billion grant meant for the Niger Delta people. The Ijaw group also said they would take deliberate legal actions both locally and internationally on oil multinationals operating in the region due to their detrimental ways of oil exploration and continuous gas flaring, noting that they would expose all Niger Deltans involved in any form of ground conspiracy against their united course even as they said they would tackle their enemies through the law. -Source Sahara Reporters.

President Muhammadu Buhari has said that Nigerians need to seek divine intervention for God to bring an end to insecurity and other challenges ravaging the country.Buhari disclosed this while speaking on Saturday at the national prayer session for the country organised by Kano State Government. Represented by Mustapha Babai, Minister of State for Agriculture, the President said his administration had been making significant efforts to overcome the security challenges bedeviling the country. He stated that the Nigerian Government has also supported security personnel with equipment and quality welfare. He said, “Despite the support, there is a need to seek divine intervention for the Almighty to bring an end to the challenges. “I am very happy with this initiative. Indeed Ganduje is doing well in securing Kano and has given his quota to achieving peace in the country at large. “No doubt, Nigeria is facing security challenges and we are doing our best to support the security personnel. That does not mean we should not seek divine intervention. This prayer session is part of the interventions and I commend the state governor for this.” SAHARAREPORTERS, NEW YORK

adamsmith914:The majority of Nigerians have harped on the best practice of cattle ranching, but arguments still rage on as the Federal Government insists on reclaiming grazing routes. It will be recalled that the Federal Government recently said it would reclaim all grazing routes throughout the country and would only concede spaces for already building public infrastructures or institutions. In contrast, a foremost human rights lawyer, Femi Falana (SAN), said there was no gazette anywhere in the country that established cattle grazing reserves, saying land constitutionally belongs to the people and held in trust by states of the federation. It would put a stop to the menace and ugly appearances created by herdsmen and their cattle on roads and streets of southwest cities. “Ranching would curb/curtail cattle rustling and invariably put an end to incessant clashes of pastoralists and farmers, thereby promoting peaceful co-existence,” the commission added. As part of efforts to tame youth restiveness and unemployment, the commission said cattle ranching established at regional levels would “Create enormous employment opportunities for the teeming population of Southwest Nigeria and enhance the proper documentation of livestock in the region, thus assist the government and other institutions concerned to make necessary policies.” Countries with the most Cattle in the world.

Nigerians have not forgotten the acts of illegality and double standard perpetrated by the president in refusing to hand over Babachir Lawal to the EFCC for proper investigation and possible prosecution for graft, but rather, preferring to give the task of investigation of the open sleaze to the Vice President, in a move not known to any law of this nation. “Even at that, the report of the Vice President Yemi Osinbajo led committee is gathering dust on the shelf of the President because he probably could not bear to see one of his closest allies punished by the laws of the land, even when all facts show that blatant and unbridled theft was perpetrated by the president’s man. “The sum involved in the NNPC scandal is $25 Billion. Less than 10% percent of that ($2 billion) is involved in the so called arms fund allegedly converted by the former NSA for which hundreds of Nigerians have been arrested and hounded. Nigerians can now see the hypocrisy in the so called anti-corruption fight. We may as well say that the privileged class of APC members enjoys total immunity from the anti-corruption campaign. “Tired of this double-faced corruptions fight and cover ups we demand an immediate commencement of investigation into this latest exposed sleaze by another of President Buhari’s men,” “We have been saying this for months that the looting of the nation’s resources under this administration is record setting in the history of this nation and we are being proven right on daily basis by the little revelations that are being made by even those working under the administration. “We wonder what the stench will be when the real and hidden atrocities being perpetrated under the watch of President Buhari are finally exposed when Nigerians throw the APC government out of power. “The sum of $25 Billion said to have been the subject of the latest controversy, when converted to Naira is about N9 Trillion, a sum that is bigger than the nation’s annual budget. “This we find, is one of the very many reasons, the nation’s economy has nosedived under the inept administration of the APC. “The allegations raised by the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources is a confirmation of our earlier stance that the APC administration is in tatters, an administration without coordination, but one planted firmly in the hands of a few cabal who are stealing the nation dry while the President continues to feign ignorance of the sickening stench.

Sunday2021:All Progressives Congress took to the rostrum to seek votes in 2015, it made numerous promises. One of them hit the right cord with a sizable number of Nigerians, especially in the South West region. It was a promise to restructure the country. Perhaps, to convince Nigerians it meant business, the party included the issues in its Constitution. Specifically, Article 7(ii) of the April 2014 APC Constitution (as amended), said its Aims and Objectives was: “To promote true federalism in the Federal Republic of Nigeria.” In the foreword to its vision for a New Nigeria (Page 3, second paragraph), the APC Manifesto commits the party to “implement efficient public financial management strategies and ensure true federalism” as well as “restructure governance in a way that kick starts our political economy so that we begin to walk the path of our better future.” Also, on page 7 of its Manifesto, the part entered what it referred to as a “Honest Contract” with Nigeria to create a federalism with “more equitable distribution of national revenue to the states and local governments because this is where grassroots democracy and economic development must be established.” Several promises were contained not only in the APC Manifesto but also in other campaign documents and were canvassed by the party and its officials publicly. The manifesto and campaign materials which contained most, if not all, of the party’s promises were made available to the public at the time. It did not stop there. The party held several public lectures and symposiums to explain how it intended to deliver on these promises and the benefit which would accrue to Nigerians. The party’s campaign which was anchored on the slogan of “Change,” took the then President, Goodluck Jonathan, and the then ruling Peoples Democratic Party to the cleaners on virtually every issue. The Boko Haram menace was at its peak. There were bombings in almost all the states in the northern Nigeria. The Federal Capital Territory was not spared as the terrorists on a few occasions entered the nation’s capital where they wreaked havoc.
