https://www.tori.ng/userfiles/image/2018/jun/17/pgggg.JPG The first tragedy of the Eagles' performance tonight was the revelation that many Nigerians truly believed that in the absence of quality preparation and good organization, the predictions of the so-called 'Marcus the mystic pig' would spur the team to victory. For those who have followed the sub-par performances of Nigeria's sports teams over the past few years, this timid and uninspiring show against a lackluster Croatian side didn't come as a surprise, it is consistent with the trend. There is apparently a correlation between the Mediocre performance of the country's leadership and the performance of her sports teams; the one rises or falls with the other. And they both seem to be on a consistent decline. These Eagles, much like the country's leadership, were feckless, lacked imagination and creativity, and had very little ambition. The surprise was not their horrible performance, the surprise was that we expected them to perform, to give in essence, what they do not have. This is a clear case of harmful illusion, the natural consequence of reliance by humans on predictions by pigs! It is the same illusion that has many of our people still expecting Buhari's APC or Jonathan's PDP to fix our country, and give her the sort of ambitious and creative leadership required to harness her potentials and unleash the limitless imagination and creative force of her proud people; the kind of leadership of which the Buharis, Jonathans, and their co-travellers are simply incapable. Also, this illusion seems to have blinded us to our collective low self-esteem borne out by the fact that more than half a century since our first participation in international football, we still rely on the questionable expertise of a string of under-achieving Europeans - fraudulently tagged 'expatriates' - who turn in mediocre performances after pocketing very high wages from our lean national purse. This illusion speaks to our national vanity, and led us to the ridiculous celebration of sports kits made by a foreign company rather than question why in 2018 we cannot kit our teams domestically. This is besides the curious stupidity of celebrating our team's fashionable kits in a tournament where laurels are won by performance not fashion. While it is almost certain - especially to those of us not caught in this collective illusion - that these Eagles will deservedly end up a flop in Russia, there is the consolation that this team is a poor representation of our actual abilities in this and other sports; and the sooner we fix our leadership question, the sooner a competent and gallant set of Eagles managed by one of our own, will emerge and conquer the world. Until then, we might remain steeped in our collective illusion, celebrate mediocrity in the name of patriotism, and ultimately rely on the vacuous predictions of 'Marcus the mystic pig' or, perhaps next time it will be 'Marcello the prophetic rat'! Super Eagles head coach Gernot Rohr has banned spicy foods such as pepper soup and goat meat for his players as they prepare for the 2018 FIFA World Cup. The Super Eagles are camped in Austria where they are intensifying preparations for the tournament before they travel to Russia. Consecutive losses to England and the Czech Republic have raised doubts among supporters on the team’s chances at the tournament. Rohr is however intent on keeping his players in good condition for the tournament which includes restriction of certain meals for the players. In an interview with Omasports, Rohr stated that the Super Eagles players will not be permitted to spicy foods. He said, “The reason is because nutritionist will tell you that too much spicy foods is not good for athletes. “We have to observe what they tell us, and the medical team agreed that we cannot eat too much fat and too much spice." He, however, stated that there may be instances whereby the strict laws may be relaxed. He said, “For instance, there can be an exception on Sunday the night we will be here, there will be a little Austrian music, perhaps a little African food, from Madam ambassador so we will see. https://mobile.twitter.com/omasports_TV/status/1005042885786554368/video/1 https://twitter.com/omasports_TV pic.twitter.com/ykyAQDyJvN |
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, on Friday, said
he has uncovered grand plans by President
Muhammadu Buhari-led administration to hang
phantom crimes on him. Obasanjo, added that since his State-of-the-Nation Special Statement on January 23, 2018, the Federal Government had embarked on desperate efforts to frustrate, intimidate and blackmail him into abandoning what he termed “divine mandate to protect the rights of the people to better life and living”. He noted that the plot has continued unabated and even taken a bizarre dimension recently. Obasanjo, made the accusations in a statement signed by his media aide, Kehinde Akinyemi in Abeokuta, Ogun State capital. According to Obasanjo in the statement, he got information through impeccable security sources that his name was on their Watch List and that the security of his life cannot be guaranteed. He explained that the informants, many of who are in the top echelon of the nation’s security management and close to the corridors of power, further hinted him that security operatives are daily perfecting how to curtail the personal liberties of the former president and hang a crime on him. The former president stated that one of such plans to curtail him was to seize his international passport and clamp him in detention indefinitely. This, according to him was to prevent him from further expressing his angst and criticisms of President Buhari’s administration’s quality of governance, mismanagement of the country’s economy and failure to secure lives and property of Nigerians. He further pointed out that since such step could expose the government to a swath of international condemnation, embarrassment and outrage, another plot being hatched is to cause the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to re-open investigation into the activities of his administration using false witnesses and documents. This, Obasanjo noted will be a re-enactment of the Abacha era in which he was one of the principal victims. He, however, took a swipe at the government for demonstrating apathy and encouraged its conduct, observing many Nigerians, now live in fear of being hounded, harassed, maimed or even killed as the battle for 2019 takes worrisome dimension. Obasanjo, who expressed regrets that the government has resorted to “shameless desperation to cow opposition”, declared that “resort to blackmail, despotism and Gestapo-tactics being employed by the goons of this government would not hold water”, adding “no government ever remains in power forever”. The statement reads: “Since Chief Olusegun Obasanjo declared in his State-of-the-Nation Special Statement on January 23, 2018, the desperation to frustrate, intimidate and blackmail him into abandoning his divine mandate to protect the rights of the people to better life and living continued unabated and has even taken a bizarre dimension. “Impeccable security sources have alleged Chief Obasanjo’s name is on their Watch List and that the security of his life cannot be guaranteed. “According to these informants, many of who are in the top echelon of the Nation’s security management and close to the corridors of power, the operatives are daily perfecting how to curtail the personal liberties of the former President and hang a crime on him. “Ordinarily, we would not have dignified these reports with a response but for the fact that many of these informants are not known for flippant and frivolous talks. Secondly, this Government has demonstrably exhibited apathy, and in some cases, encouraged by its conduct, daily loss of lives and property in many States of the country, the office cannot be indifferent. “We are currently in a nation where the Number Three citizen is currently being harangued and the Number Four citizen is facing similar threat within the same Government they serve. There is a groundswell of our nationals that live in fear that they could be hounded, harassed, maimed or even killed as the battle for 2019 takes this worrisome dimension. “For Chief Obasanjo, this is a joke carried too far and being someone who do not act on unofficial information, he had cautioned all informants and adopted a wait-and-see attitude to the bestial propositions allegedly being contemplated to cow, cage and embarrass him. “The content of the alleged beastly designs, it was learnt are two-fold for now. One, to seize his International Passport and clamp him into detention indefinitely, in order to prevent him from further expressing angst on the pervasive mediocrity in the quality of governance, economic management and in the protection of lives and property by the Government. But, since that could expose the Government to a swath of international condemnation, embarrassment and outrage, it is said that another plot being hatched is to cause the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to re-open investigation into the activities of Chief Obasanjo’s administration using false witnesses and documents. This will be a re- enactment of the Abacha era in which Chief Obasanjo was one of the principal victims. http://sunnewsonline.com/buharis-govt-planning-to-frame-me-obasanjo-cries-out/ |
General Sani Abacha, the late military dictator of Nigeria, died today, 20 years ago, in contentious circumstances. To many Nigerians, home and abroad, Abacha was perceived and remembered as a totalitarian, who had Ken Saro-Wiwa hanged, used his power to the extreme and looted the reserves of the nation. However, it would be a great disservice to remember him for just that, as he also did some other significant things in his time as leader of the Nigerian nation. Here are 10 notable things/feats ( some bad, some good ) Abacha would be remembered for; 1. Abacha successfully partook in 2 coups In 1983, Abacha assisted Ibrahim Babangida in overthrowing Shehu Shagari, after just being elected to his second presidential term. Ten years later in 1993, Abacha overthrew the civilian interim government of Ernest Shonekan. 2. Abacha killed Ken Saro-Wiwa Abacha became infamous for the imprisonment, trial, and execution for treason of writer Ken Saro-Wiwa and other Ogoni activists who were concerned with the environmental exploitation of their region by multinational petroleum companies. 3. Abacha controlled the press and military During his days, Abacha banned political activity of any kind, fired a large portion of the military, controlled the press, and assembled a personal security force of some 3,000 men. 4. Abacha made Nigerian Army respected Abacha supported the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and its military arm, ECOWAS Monitoring Group (ECOMOG), by sending troops to restore democracy in Liberia and Sierra Leone after a series of military coups in both countries. 5. Abacha created PTF, NLNG Gen Abacha created the Petroleum Trust Fund and did significant capital and infrastructural projects across Nigeria, as well as the Nigerian Liquefied Natural Gas company (NLNG). 6. The economy grew in Abacha’s era The Abacha administration became the first to record unprecedented economic achievements, going on to oversee an increase in the country’s foreign exchange reserves from $494 million in 1993 to $9.6 billion by the middle of 1997. It also reduced the external debt of Nigeria from $36 billion in 1993 to $27 billion by 1997. 7. Inflation rate was significantly reduced during Abacha’s time Abacha brought all the controversial privatization programs of the Babangida administration to halt, reduced an inflation rate of 54% inherited from Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida to 8.5% between 1993 and 1998, all while the nation’s primary commodity, oil was at an average of $15 per barrel. 8. Nigeria’s coffers was well-looted by Abacha It is widely believed that no other Nigerian leader looted the Nigerian treasury as much as Sani Abacha. During his regime, he and his family reportedly stole a total of £5 billion from the country’s coffers. 9. Abacha is rumoured to have been killed by prostitutes Abacha died in June 1998 while at the presidential villa in Abuja. Many believe he may have been executed extra-judicially by way of being poisoned by Indian prostitutes from Dubai, however, the government identified the cause of death as a sudden heart attack. 10. Abacha never held a political appointment as a military man Abacha refused to accept a single political appointment throughout his military career, Abacha has been described as the epitome of military discipline. |
Nigerian woman accuses Pastor Lazarus Muoka of the Lord's Chosen church of trying to kill her because she left his church (video) https://www.kemifilani.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/lady-accuses-the-lord-chosen-pastor-of-death-threats.png A Nigerian woman has taken to social media to cry out for help and accuse Pastor Lazarus Muoka, the General Overseer of the Lord's Chosen Church, of trying to kill her because she left the church after finding out his secret. She said Muoka has scattered her marriage and has been sending hired assassins to kill her after his pleas to return to the church did not work. She also accused him of charging her to court 13 times. Sharing a video on Facebook, she wrote: "Hello friends .... Fake pastor Lazarus Mouka the owner of the Lords chosen church wants to kill me... He's after my life ....please watch this video." Below are some of the claims she made in the video: Since 2010, I'm a Catholic, then I went to this business centre called Lord's Chosen Church. The pastor said we worship Mother Mary, we worship statues. I spent 7 years there, I find out that Lazarus Muoka, the owner of Lord's Chosen is worshipping python. I made up my mind, I left. After 8 months, Lazarus come to my house begging me to come back to his business centre. I told him that I will not go back there. I'll be the last person that will go and use Lord's name and be obtaining people. I told him nobody will hear the difference between two of us, nobody will hear anything -his secrets - he should go his way let me go my way. So he started locking me from one police station to another. That one was not enough. Lazarus Muoka, a man who said he's a man of God, who call himself a pastor, sent me to exile, sent me to Keffi prison, scatter my marriage, he destroyed my marriage, carried my shop away. As I'm talking to you, since 2010, this man has been fighting me, sending hired assassin to kill me. He has been doing everything to kill me. He has sued me. 13 court cases! And this man says he's a man of God. Watch the rest of her accusations in the video below. https://web.facebook.com/plugins/video.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fuche.eze.1069%2Fvideos%2F777787309276257%2F&show_text=0&width=261&_rdc=1&_rdr |
