Read the press statement from PDP The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) charges the acting Inspector General of Police, Adamu Mohammed, to immediately commence the re- engineering of the Nigeria Police to restore professionalism and adherence to rules of engagement in the Force. This is just as the party berates the outgoing Inspector General, Ibrahim Idris, for a shameful and partisan tenure, which destroyed professionalism in the police and compromised the lives and security of Nigerians, adding that he must be held accountable for all the atrocities he committed while in office. Ibrahim Idris will be remembered as the only IGP in our political history, who surrendered the responsibilities of his exalted office to the whims and caprices of politicians who share courtesies with the Buhari Presidency. He defied the need to secure troubled areas and watched carelessly while an integral part of our nation was engulfed in bloody clashes. Idris will also be remembered as that Police Officer, who had a penchant for framing innocent Nigerians with ridiculous allegations. Throughout his inglorious tenure, he functioned as the commander of the militant wing of the APC, just to retain his office and remain in power. The PDP therefore urges the new Police boss to learn a lesson from the shameful end of Idris as IGP by immediately setting up the process of re- orientating and insulating the Force from partisan politics, while subjecting it to the tenets of democracy and the rule of law. The PDP urges the police chief to avoid the pitfalls of the last IGP, who has gone down in history as the most corrupt, devious and reckless police officer to hold the post of the IGP in Nigeria. The party further advices the new police boss to remove all templates of election rigging contained in the hand-over note that will be presented to him by Idris Ibrahim. The new IGP must also urgently take steps to address the bastardization of promotion in the Police under the last IGP, where officers due for promotion were denied and only those endorsed by a cabal or who have enough money to buy their way through were promoted. This is in addition to immediately setting up a process that guarantee proper welfare of officers and men of the Nigeria police. He must note that the whole world is watching him and we urge him not to fail the nation, which he owes his allegiance. Now that Idris Ibrahim has gone the way of leaders disgraced out of office, the PDP counsels all enemies of democracy, including President Buhari’s compromised relation in INEC, Mrs. Amina Zakari, to take heed of the disgrace and infamy that await them at the end of their tenures. https://www.lindaikejisblog.com/2019/1/pdp-sets-agenda-for-acting-igp-adamu-mohammed-describes-idris-ibrahims-tenure-as-shameful.html |
The Independent National Electoral Commission on Monday said it had discovered new methods to be used by some politicians to buy votes in the forthcoming general elections . Speaking at an interactive session with traditional rulers in Osun State , the INEC National Commissioner , Mr Festus Okoye, however, warned that any politicians caught buying votes or engaging in acts that could have negative effects on the elections would be punished. Okoye, who was represented by the Osun State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mr Segun Agbaje , said the commission had been informed that some people were inducing voters to release their PVCs or Voter Identification Numbers . He said the intention behind the moves was to either stop the owners of the cards from voting or to attempt using the VIN to hack into the commission ’s website and preload card readers ahead of the elections . He said, “ We have introduced a partial ban on the use of mobile phones and other photographic devices by voters while in the voting cubicles. Also, we are introducing the rolling and flattening of ballot papers by voters before casting them into the ballot boxes . “ However, new methods of vote- buying are being devised. We have received credible information that some partisan actors are now buying PVCs from voters or financially inducing them to collect he Voter Identification Numbers on their PVCs . In some instances, telephone numbers and details of bank accounts of voters have been collected .” He , however , assured the public that the commission would work with the security agents to deal with the violators of electoral laws. Agbaje said anyone found guilty of buying votes would pay either a fine of N1m or be sentenced to one year in prison , adding that multiple registration, impersonation and being in possession of more than one PVC would attract N1m fine or a 12 - month jail term or both . The Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi , urged royal fathers in the state to ensure that there was peace before and during the elections in their areas . https://punchng.com/inec-uncovers-new-methods-of-vote-buying/ |
There are two kinds of supporters that worked for the 2015
electoral victory of President Muhammadu Buhari. The first
group is made up of those who supported the presidential bid
of Buhari in 2015 because they genuinely wanted a better
Nigeria. They were not satisfied with the administration of Dr Goodluck Jonathan, and believed that Buhari held the key to Nigeria’s transformation. They saw Buhari as a leader who would not condone corruption, nepotism, tribalism, mediocrity, wastefulness, flamboyance, and the like. The second group supported Buhari for personal reasons. In this group were those who supported Buhari because he was their kinsman. They wanted their kinsman (or one who spoke the same language with them) to be president. For them, it was their turn to rule Nigeria. Another section of this second group supported Buhari because his running mate, Prof Yemi Osinbajo, was their kinsman. The deduction was that if Buhari became the President, their kinsman would be the Vice President and make them close to power. And if anything happened to Buhari, like it happened to Alhaji Umaru Yar’Adua, their kinsman (Osinbajo) would become President. Another section of this second group was concerned with the fact that Buhari was a member of their party, the All Progressives Congress. They just wanted the Peoples Democratic Party out and replaced with their party, the APC. Then, there was an arm of this group which saw Buhari as their idol who needed to be supported by all means. Because the first group was driven by love for Nigeria, immediately Buhari was inaugurated as President on May 29, 2015, they started gauging his words and actions to see how they conformed to their expectations of him. Even though they were pointing out issues that were not properly handled (like the ethnic coloration of Buhari’s appointments and the long delay in the appointment of his ministers), they still believed that those were teething troubles. Some waited for six months to elapse, while others waited for one year before making up their minds about the suitability of Buhari as President. By the end of one year, those who had expected that Buhari would be a different kind of President who would transform Nigeria began to criticise his actions and policies. Some of them were more ferocious than even Buhari’s opponents, because they had staked their reputation to support Buhari, quarrelling with their friends and family members because of that support for him, spending their funds and resources to preach to people about the need to vote in Buhari, if they wanted to see a new Nigeria where corruption would be eliminated or suppressed, where tribalism would be downgraded, insecurity eliminated, and the economy boosted. Many actions and words of Buhari made members of this first group feel taken for a ride. They saw themselves as people with poor judgement because of their support for Buhari. Conversely, the second group – motivated by personal interests – saw things differently. Whatever Buhari did was right. A justification was always given for it. If there was no justification, the action or inaction was compared with what happened under Jonathan or Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, to prove that it was nothing new. In some instances, silence was the answer – some less audacious members of this group would keep quiet and pretend not to notice that Buhari had done something below expectations or had failed to act as he had promised. One trait of members of this second group is that anybody who is perceived to be against Buhari is branded an enemy. The person is demonised and lampooned. Even those who worked fervently to make Buhari win in 2015 are not spared. Stories are easily created to demonise these people as people who were compromised or people who changed their views about Buhari because they did not get a political appointment or a contract. The issues raised by them are sidestepped, while their personal lives and families are dug into to find something to twist to advantage and use against them. Members of the first group see themselves as loyal to the nation, while members of the second group are loyal to Buhari, even though they still argue that they are loyal to the nation. It is members of this second group that give Buhari the assurance that Nigerians are behind him and are happy with him; therefore, he should continue with what he has been doing. For example, the moment the news broke over the weekend that the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen, would be charged to the Code of Conduct Tribunal on Monday, January 14, 2019, the reaction of supporters of Buhari was predictable. Their argument was that nobody is above the law. It did not matter that there is a subsisting ruling by the Federal Court of Appeal that a judicial officer cannot be sent to a court for trial without passing through the National Judicial Council, which will decide if the case has merit or not. The same reaction followed the police siege on the home of Senator Dino Melaye last week. Buhari as a person has not helped matters. He helps to fuel this division by his attitude to criticism and opposition. He sees anybody who criticises him as an enemy. Rather than focus on the issue raised, he focuses on the individual. When his wife, Aisha, complained that those who worked for Buhari’s electoral victory in 2015 were sidelined and that it would be hard for her to go back to people in 2019 and ask them to vote for her husband again, Buhari ignored all she said and told the world that her wife belonged in “the other room.” The wife of the President was perhaps lucky because of her relationship with the President. People like Mr Ayo Fayose (former Governor of Ekiti State), Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, Senator Dino Melaye, Mr Deji Adeyanju, and the rest were not that lucky. This attitude has helped in dividing Nigeria like never before. Unlike before when Nigerians would unite after elections and tackle national issues together, the division that existed among Nigeria during the 2015 campaigns has been on throughout the almost four years of Buhari’s presidency. Early in his administration, Buhari widened that division by his comment about those who gave him 97 per cent votes and those who gave him five per cent votes. Today, even in a discussion that has no connection with politics, someone would find a way to link your view with politics and determine if your comment about the weather shows that you support Buhari or oppose him. It is a sad omen for the nation. It needs to stop in this 2019. Written by Azuka Onwuka for the Punch –Twitter @BrandAzuka |

BY ROTIMI AGBANA During the early hours of Wednesday, reports went viral on social media that a traditional wedding between Simi and Adekunle Gold would hold Wednesday at a secret location in Victoria Island, Lagos, while their white wedding was allegedly scheduled to hold today, Thursday, January 10, 2019, at Ilashe Beach, Lagos. However, when Vanguard reached out to Adekunle Gold’s management team the spokesperson, who spoke on anonymous grounds denied knowledge that any traditional wedding ceremony or white wedding took place between the singers yesterday or today. “Must you believe everything you read online or in the papers? We’re not aware a traditional wedding took place yesterday or of a white wedding taking place between Adekunle Gold and Simi today.” Meanwhile, Thursday morning, Adekunle Gold retweeted series of congratulatory messages sent by his fans on twitter, but later deleted everything during the day, while Simi has remained radio silent on the matter ever since. Another member of the singer’s management team who also didn’t want his name in print distanced himself from the said wedding ceremony. “I’m not aware of any traditional wedding or white wedding between Adekunle Gold and Simi. Yes, I’m always with him but he has a private life and he has a right to his privacy, so I can’t confirm if he had a traditional wedding with Simi yesterday or a white wedding with her today”, he said. On the other hand, a close friend of Adekunle Gold who pleaded anonymity confirmed that contrary to public knowledge, the singers secretly had their introduction two months ago, and not two weeks ago as is been rumoured. “The noise about Simi and Adekunle Gold having their introduction two weeks ago is far from the truth. They actually had it two months ago but I didn’t attend because I wasn’t in the country. I’m not sure of what they did yesterday but I can confirm that they did something together yesterday. I did not attend because I had personal work to do”, he said. Vanguard’s investigation has revealed that contrary to speculations that Adekunle Gold may not be available to perform at any event because he might be on honey moon as a newly wed, he is billed to perform at an elaborate corporate event scheduled for Friday, January 18, 2019, in Lagos. https://www.vanguardngr.com/2019/01/confusion-trails-adekunle-gold-simi-rumoured-wedding/

one of the 24 state governors elected under the platform of the governing All Progressives Congress (APC) are present at the ongoing inaugural meeting of the presidential campaign council of the party being chaired by President Muhammadu Buhari, Premium Times reports. The governors are part of the council as coordinators for their own states. The council was inaugurated Monday by Mr Buhari at the International Conference Centre, Abuja. The meeting is currently holding at the conference hall of State House Presidential Villa Abuja. It is attended by almost all the other members of the council and is co-chaired by former Lagos state governor, Bola Tinubu. It is not clear why the governors are not at the event, but President Buhari recently told Nigerian voters not to re-elect any governor who failed to pay workers salaries after receiving bailout funds from the federal government. Mr Buhari had while inaugurating the council announced that Mr Tinubu will take full charge of his re-election campaign. However, it was gathered that Mr Buhari will be attending campaign rallies in Kaduna, Bauchi and Gombe states over the weekend. A source at the presidential villa said Mr Buhari will travel to Kaduna tomorrow, Bauchi on Saturday and Gombe on Sunday. https://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/top-news/305090-just-in-apc-governors-absent-as-buhari-chairs-inaugural-meeting-of-campaign-council.html

OAP and leader of the Free the Sheeple Movement, Daddy Freeze, has taken to his Instagram page to react to the recently released Forbes list of Africa's Richest Bilionaires. According to Freeze, Aliko Dangote and Mike Adenuga who made the first and second cut on the list, do not pay tithes to any pastor or give first fruits to churches. He advised Christians not to listen to the messages of the likes of RCCG general overseer, Pastor E. Adeboye or Winners Chappel founder Bishop David Oyedepo, if they want to be rich this year. Read what he wrote below Once again those prosperity pastors misled you.... - Where is the prosperity in the land, if we overtook India as the poverty capital of the world and our billionaires became poorer and fewer? - Mike Adenuga was one of the only billionaire that became richer last year and he neither pays tithes nor gives first fruit. In the same vein, the man at the top spot, Aliko Dangote also doesn’t tithe to pastors or churches and neither does he give first fruit. - However, both of Nigeria’s richest men are EXTREMELY CHARITABLE, giving a lot to support the poor, weak and the sick. - It has been shown to us repeatedly by verifiable statistics and empirical studies, that the god of the prosperity doctrine Pentecostals cannot bless anyone with anything except poverty, hardship and sorrow. - If you want to be rich in 2019, stop listening to Adeboye, Oyedepo and the likes of them and stop giving them your money as well, Instead understudy Dangote and Adenuga, while you invest your money. ~FRZ https://www.lindaikejisblog.com/2019/1/if-you-want-to-be-rich-in-2019-stop-listening-to-adeboye-oyedepo-and-the-likes-of-them-freeze-says-as-he-reacts-to-forbes-list-of-africas-billionaires.html

In a historic first, Malaysia’s king, Sultan Muhammad V abdicated Sunday, ending weeks of speculation about his future after he took medical leave and reportedly married a Russian ex-beauty queen. Sultan Muhammad V’s decision marks the first time a king has stepped aside during his five-year term in the Muslim-majority country. The national palace confirmed the resignation with immediate effect of the 49-year-old, who had been on the throne for two years and was known for his fondness for four-wheel driving and other extreme sports. “His majesty tells the people of Malaysia to continue to be united to maintain unity, tolerance, and work together,” said a statement from the Comptroller of the Royal Household, Wan Ahmad Dahlan Abdul Aziz. Malaysia’s Islamic rulers will now meet to decide on the next king. Malaysia is a constitutional monarchy, with a unique arrangement where the throne changes hands every five years between rulers of the nine Malaysian states headed by centuries-old Islamic royalty. The system has been in place since independence from Britain in 1957. Royal officials gave no reason for Sultan Muhammad V’s move but there had been a question mark over the king’s reign since he went on leave for medical treatment in November. Reports in British and Russian media then surfaced saying that he had married the former Miss Moscow in the Russian capital in a lavish ceremony. Royal officials in Malaysia have so far not commented on the rumoured marriage, or given any details about the state of the king’s health. Speculation intensified about the king’s future after his medical leave officially finished at the end of December, and the country’s Islamic royals reportedly held a special meeting last week. While their role is ceremonial, Malaysia’s Islamic royalty command great respect, especially from Muslim Malays, and criticising them is strictly forbidden. Sultan Muhammad V studied at St Cross College at Oxford and the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies, according to official media. He is known for a relaxed public persona, taking part in walkathons to promote health, and has been photographed wearing a baseball cap backwards. According to a report from official news agency Bernama at the time of his enthronement, he “fills his free time by reading and has an interest in extreme sports such as four-wheel drive expeditions and endurance challenges and shooting”. He is also the ceremonial ruler of the conservative Islamic northern state of Kelantan. The palace statement said he was “ready to return home to the state of Kelantan to be together with the state government and… the Kelantanese people”. The palace did not indicate when the Islamic rulers would meet to pick the next king. During his leave of absence, the ruler of western Perak state had been carrying out his duties. Portraits of the king and queen adorn government buildings throughout the country. The king is also the symbolic head of Islam in the nation, as well as the nominal chief of the military. Malaysia’s sultans trace a lineage back to Malay sultanates of the 15th century. The king is referred to as Yang di-Pertuan Agong, or “He Who Is Made Lord”. https://www.tori.ng/userfiles/image/2019/jan/06/Sultan-V.jpg Malaysia's king, Sultan Muhammad V https://www.tori.ng/news/113934/king-of-malaysia-quits-throne-to-marry-russian-bea.html https://www.ndtv.com/world-news/malaysia-king-sultan-muhammad-v-steps-down-after-rumours-he-married-ex-russia-beauty-queen-1973424 lalasticlala mynd44 farano Rocktation |

The Association of White Witches in Nigeria, AWWN, has warned the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Atiku Abubakar against repeating the mistake of former President Goodluck Jonathan, if he wants to win the election. The witches claimed that Jonathan refused to listen to the “wise” an action that led to his defeat in 2015 by President Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress, APC. AWWN spokesperson, Dr. Okhue Iboi, in a chat with Independent on Thursday, said Atiku should hearken to instructions if he wants to defeat Buhari during the presidential election. The association said for the former Vice President to win, he has to undertake the assignment of visiting the church, mosque, and the witches’ association for special prayers. According to Oboi, “These three spiritual places are keys in this year’s election. He has to go to these three places for special prayers to be offered on him. If he fails to do so and chooses to follow the way of Jonathan, then he should forget the presidency. “In 2015, we told President Jonathan the same thing, but he refused and we all know what happened after that. Millions of Nigerians want Atiku to be the next president, but he has this assignment to undertake so that God can clear his way to win the election.” Iboi disclosed that during their meeting which was held in Calabar, the Cross River State capital in the first week of December, it was clear that the gods favoured Atiku to be the next president of Nigeria but he must seek spiritual covering. “Atiku will win Buhari with a landslide if he obeys this simple instruction,” he said. https://www.tori.ng/news/113866/2019-elections-nigerian-witches-issue-warning-to-a.html |
The Nigerian Army on Wednesday opened an international livestock market and abattoir in the Anagada area of the Federal Capital Territory , saying the market would enhance the movement of livestock from the north to the south. The Chief of the Army Staff, Lt . Gen. Tukur Buratai , at the inauguration of the market, noted that the market would hold all species of cattle including “ those imported from Niger Republic , Chad , Cameroon and Benin Republic .” The army chief saidthe initiative was part of the military’ s corporate social responsibility and thedesire of the Federal Government to generate employment. Our correspondent gathered that locals , native traders , butchers, herdsmen and others in cattlebbusiness would beballowed to trade at the market . The property was built by the Nigerian Army Welfare Limited / Guarantee and supported by two private firms – Collective Ventures and Goshen Associates . The army chief, in his speech read by Maj . Gen. Enobong Udoh , said , “ The International Livestock Market is expected to serve as a transit market for the movement of livestock from northern Nigeria to southern Nigeria. The market has been designed to hold all species of cattle including those imported from Niger Republic , Chad , Cameroon and Benin Republic . “ It is pertinent to state that one of the main reasons that informed the establishment of this international livestock market was the desire to generate employment. In addition to catering to the welfare of troops as part of our corporate social responsibility , this livestock market would also support the Federal Government’ s employment generation initiatives . “ The market has a standard abattoir so as to ease the processing of meat and poultry that would be consumed locally in Abuja and environs . The abattoir is designed in line with the global best practices , bearing in mind the need for good hygienic conditions within and around it. “ A medical laboratory to be manned by our medical personnel has been incorporated in its design to ensure that livestock slaughtered meets requisite health conditions.” The Director of the Nigerian Army Welfare Limited , Maj. Gen. Kamilu Kadiri, said the idea of building the market was conceived in April 2018 ,adding it would include lockup shops and restaurants in the second and third phases of the construction . https://punchng.com/army-opens-livestock-market-in-fct/ Mynd44 |
Former Nigerian leaders including ex - Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo, Goodluck Jonathan and their Chiefs of Staff are to receive N 2 . 3 bn as benefits in 2019 . The sum of N 4 .5 bn was also proposed in the 2019 budget as severance benefits for retired Heads of Service and Permanent Secretaries while former heads of government agencies and parastatals would receive N 1 bn as severance benefits. This is contained in the budget document recently submitted to the National Assembly by President Muhammadu Buhari. The Federal Government also proposed N3 bn for outsourced services and N5 bn for ‘ margin for increased in costs. ’ Findings also showed that N65 bn was budgeted for re - integration of transformed ex- militants while contingency got N 15 . 8 bn . The counter - insurgency operations in the North - East , Operation Lafiya Dole and other military operations were expected to gulp N 75 bn . The Federal Government allocated N20 bn for university revitalization and another N 20 bn for additional support to universities. The sum of N 160 bn was voted for public service wage adjustment for ministries , departments and agencies including arrears of promotion and salary increases and severance benefits. Another N22 .7 bn was allocated for outstanding terminal benefits of retired Nigeria Airways workers . The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps proposed N 514 .6 m for the construction of public schools and N170 . 4 m for construction of stations / barracks. The Nigeria Police Force voted N103 m for land acquisition and N 4 . 9 bn for police stations / barracks construction. Meanwhile, the Federal Ministry of Justice has proposed to spend the sum of N 1 bn on election logistics support in 2019 . The N1 bn planned expense jerked the proposed budget up by about 13 .9 per cent over the ministry’ s 2018 budget . According to the budget estimate , the sum of N 1 bn proposed by the Ministry of Justice to be spent on what is described as “ Election – Logistics Support” represents about 13 .5 per cent of the ministry ’s budget size of N7 ,431 ,288 , 232 . Since the budget proposal is for an election year, it is believed that the item has to do with the forthcoming general elections. Further strengthening this belief is that the item which surfaced under the miscellaneous expenses of the ministry for the 2019 financial year , was absent in the ministry’s budget for 2018. A total sum of N1 ,140 , 273 ,822 is proposed for miscellaneous expenses of the ministry for 2019 . Apart from election logistic support , other items under the heading are publicity and advertisements which are to gulp N 5 , 5671 ,861 ; postages and courier services , N2 ,108 , 280 ; welfare packages , 93 , 600 ,001 ; sporting activities, N 5 , 000 ,0004 ; annual budget expenses and administration , 28 ,893 , 676 ; and monitoring activities and follow - up , N5 m . The sum of N1 bn proposed for election logistic support represents 87 .7 per cent of the proposed miscellaneous expenses . In the 2018 budget of the ministry the amount planned to be spent under miscellaneous expenses without the new item of election logistic support was N 21 ,015 , 931 . If the budget proposal of the Ministry of Justice is approved by the National Assembly , it means the ministry’s budget will increase from N6 ,526 ,592 , 382 in 2018 to N7 ,431 ,288 , 232 in 2019. The difference of N 904 , 695 , 850 between the 2018 and the proposed 2019 budgets represents about 13 .9 per cent increase in the proposed budget . https://punchng.com/obasanjo-jonathan-others-to-get-n2-3bn-benefits-in-2019/ |

Chris Ngige, minister of labour andemployment, says he is a prophet and the Igbo should listen to him ahead of the 2019 elections. The minister said it is in the “interest of the Igbo” to vote for President Muhammadu Buhari in 2019 because he will win his re-election bid. Addressing All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders and candidates in Anambra on Tuesday, Ngige advised the Igbo against giving the “sugar-coated PDP deceivers the chance to come and destroy” the country. “I’m a prophet the Igbo should listen to. I said it in 2015 and I am saying it again to Ndigbo that Buhari will win the 2019 presidential election convincingly,” he said. “It will be good and in the interest of the Igbo if we give Buhari another four years. By then, it will be ‘a pass and pass out’ for him instead of giving these sugar-coated PDP deceivers the chance to come and destroy and take this country to the precipice again. “Those who abandoned the party at the last minute, thinking the party would not win any election would live to regret it. “We should give President Muhammadu Buhari maximum support in the 2019 general elections, that is the only and shortest way to get the presidency for the Igbo.” The minister described the promise of restructuring by Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), as “another deceit”. He added: “Restructuring by the PDP is a proper deceit because the issue of restructuring is a constitutional matter. Nobody can do it unilaterally without recourse to the National Assembly. Restructuring is a broad area.” https://www.thecable.ng/im-a-prophet-the-igbo-should-listen-to-says-ngige-on-2019-elections |
