PoliticsBREAKING: Shooting In Edo House Of Assembly, Six Injured by boman2014(op): 6:21pm On May 03, 2016
– The Speaker and Deputy of Edo state House of Assembly
has been impeached

– A new speaker in the person of Elizabeth Ative has been
elected

– A shooting has erupted at the Edo state parliament, six
people reportedly injured

Impeachments rock the Edo state House of Assembly.
There was chaos in the Edo State House of Assembly, as the
Speaker Mr Victor Edoror, and his Deputy have been
impeached by lawmakers in the state on Tuesday, May 3.

The leaders of the Edo parliament were impeached for some
alleged misconduct.

Mrs Elizabeth Ative has been elected as the Speaker following
Edoror’s removal.

Following the impeachment of the House leaders, over
hundred hoodlums invaded the hallowed chamber of the
Assembly, wielding guns and other dangerous weapons.

Six people sustained varying degrees of gunshot injuries as the
hoodlums shot sporadically to scare people out of the
chamber.

A Naij.com correspondent reports that Trouble started when
the Majority Leader, Hon Folly Ogedegbe (Owan West
Constituency), moved a motion for impeachment of the
Speaker, Hon Victor Edoror and the Deputy Speaker, Hon
Bright Osayande.

The motion reads: “We the underlisted and undersigned
Honourable Members representing the various Constituencies
in the Edo State House of Assembly, have on this day 3rd of
May 2016 have resolved to impeach our Speaker, Hon Chief
Victor Edoror Tiger and the Deputy Speaker, Hon Osayande, for
acts of gross misconduct.”

According to the source, the motion was seconded by Hon
Gani Audu (Etsako West I). At the end of a brief proceeding
presided over by Speaker ex-tempo Hon Patrick Iluobe, the
only female member of the House, Hon (Mrs) Elizabeth Ativie,
(Uhumwode), was elected Speaker while Hon. (Dr) Joseph
Okonoboh (Igueben Constituency), was elected Deputy
Speaker.

Following the election of the new leadership of the House, the
impeached Speaker and his Deputy walked into the chamber in
company of the suspected hoodlums who shot sporadically to
scare people out and in the process, about six persons
sustained various degrees of gunshot injuries.

In her acceptance speech, the new Speaker, Hon (Mrs) Ativie,
said the members can no longer tolerate the greedy nature of
the former Speaker.

She said the impeached Speaker has up to six different
financial cases with the EFCC and that the members can no
longer continue to allow such indecent person to lead the
House.

The Speaker disclosed that a five-member Committee to be
headed by Hon. Kabiru Adjoto (Akoko-Edo Constituency I), will
investigate the financial recklessness of the impeached Speaker
from June 2015 to May 3, 2016, adding that if found wanting
at the end of the three months when the Committee will submit
its report, he will be handed over to appropriate authority for
prosecution.

Also speaking, Hon. Adjoto Kabiru, said: “The impeached
Speaker is violently corrupt who have flair for eating
government money just the way the red mouth squirrel has
mouth for palm kernel as it is eating one, it is looking at
another one that is how Edoror is.

“As it is today, Edoror has a lot of EFCC cases hanging on his
neck. You media men can go and verify this. Edo Assembly
cannot afford to have a Speaker that is being investigated by
the EFCC because of his corrupt nature.

“As earlier mentioned by our new Speaker, Edoror has a
corrupt tendency that cannot be mentioned. Enough is enough,
that is why 16 members of the House today signed
impeachment notice against him. As we speak today, both APC
and PDP members in the House signed impeachment notice
against him,” Adjooto said.

Sixteen members signed the impeachment notice circulated to
journalists immediately after the House proceedings while
seven declined.

should be known in order to know how important the plant
product is to humanity

– A good number of people spend money where they ought to

Ginger, the wonderful plant product
Some of the amazing powers of ginger are highlighted below:

the active ingredients within it. Drinking ginger tea, also eases
sore throat and non-stop cough.

*Set up 2 committees for both arms

By Levinus Nwabughiogu

ABUJA – At last, the Executive arm of the government and the National Assembly have resolved their lingering face-off over the 2016 budget, giving hope that any moment from now, president Mohammed would sign the document into law.

A truce was brokered between the two arms of government at a meeting between the president, vice president Yemi Osinbajo and the leadership of the national assembly led by the senate president, Dr. Bukola Saraki held at the Presidential Villa, Abuja on Tuesday night.

Earlier in the day, the Speaker, House of Representatives, Mr. Yakubo Dogara had met behind closed doors with president Buhari on the same matter.

Speaking after the nocturnal meeting, the senate president, Saraki told State House Correspondents that the controversial issues about the budget had been laid to rest, assuring that in a matter of days, the Appropriation Bill would be given the backing of the law for onward implementation by the federal government.

On the outcome of the meeting

He said: “We just finished a meeting with the president and VP. We came to let them know some of the solutions that we found in moving the budget process forward and we are happy to say that we have agreed on the way forward and we believe that this process will be completed in matter of days rather than weeks. So, it is good news to Nigerians and all of us. We have found a way forward and in a meter of days the budget will be ready for president’s assent.”

Some solders in Festac have shot at and brutalised a
motorist for having an argument with a soldier over the right of way.

The soldiers numbering about four reportedly chased the motorist identified barrister Olajide Sipe, from 23 road Mobile Petrol station, shooting and at his vehicle in the process.

Our correspondent at the scene was told by relatives of the victim that but for the timely intervention of a retired commodore who stopped his car and restrained the soldiers from inflicting more injuries on the Jide, he could have lost his life in the attack.

After the commodore intervened, Jide was rushed by
bystanders to Mercy Gate hospital along 72 Road where is receiving treatment.

Narrating his ordeal to our correspondent at the hospital, Jide said: I was coming from where I went to buy water barely ten minutes after talking with my wife on the phone, at 23 Road Mobil Petrol station, those buying fuel had blocked one lane and a soldier had stopped a bus on the other lane in the middle of the road.

“When I realsed that the soldier was blocking the road I said to him, Oga this thing you are doing is causing
holdup, why don’t you take the bus out of the road, so that we can move, and then he said to me who are you, what nonsense are you talking, and I said, no Oga I’m not trying to teach you what to do, I’m only telling you that if you do this thing it will be better for us using the road.

“The next thing he said was, You must be a useless man, then when I saw that he was already taking that tone I decided to move my car, then he started running after me, after I took the turning on 23 Road, another soldier, light in complexion came in front of my car, I stopped, then he began kicking my front wheel and smashed my windscreen.

“When I saw he was kicking my car, I moved, then the two Soldiers boarded a bike, then they later became four and began chasing me, as I got to 7th Avenue, I made a U-turn and they rammed their bike into my car, then I drove off, when the soldiers saw me driving off they shot at the car twice, the second bullet hit my tyre.

When I heard the sound of the gun I couldn’t believe I was being shot at. After my tyre went flat, I came down and they ran to me and beat me blue black, after that people around brought me to the hospital.

The relatives of the victim said the commanding officer of the soldiers, Lieutenant Sadi, later came to the hospital to see the damage his men had caused to an innocent citizen, but offered no further succor.

PoliticsEkweremadu Describes EFCC's Denial As Worrisome by boman2014(op): 11:15pm On Apr 20, 2016
Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, on Wednesday, described as baffling and worrisome, the decision of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to deny the title of Anti – Corruption Ambassador, bestowed on him by an official of the agency on Tuesday.

Ekweremadu in a statement by his Special Adviser, Media and Publicity, Mr. Uche Anichukwu, explained that the EFCC denial which was contained in a statement by its spokesperson, Mr. Wilson Uwujaren, was most unfortunate.

The statement reads, ” We want to put it on record that the EFCC Liaison Officer to the National Assembly, Mr. Suleiman Bakari, and his team, applied for and subsequently paid a courtesy call on the Deputy President of the Senate in his Office on Tuesday, April 19, 2016.

“Mr. Bakari, amongst other issues he raised, solicited the support of the Senate and National Assembly towards the anti-corruption crusade of the present administration, and even presented a frame with a bold picture of President Muhammadu Buhari, bearing the inscription: “If we don’t kill corruption, corruption will kill Nigeria”.

“Mr. Bakari also, on behalf of the Acting Chairman, management, and staff of the EFCC decorated Senator Ekweremadu as an Anti-Corruption Ambassador of the EFCC.

“It is also a fact that the visit and decoration was captured in both pictures and video.”

It also faulted the claim by the EFCC spokesperson that the agency has never and could not have decorated anybody as an Anti-Corruption Ambassador, since, according to him, “the Commission is not in the habit of awarding titles to individuals.”

It added,”We wish to refer him (Uwujaren,) to December 7, 2007, when the Nuhu Ribadu-led EFCC conferred the Role Model Award in the Fight Against Corruption, on certain persons, including a former President of the Senate; a taxi driver; and a former Justice of the Federal High Court at the Musa Yar’Adua Centre, Abuja.”

The statement added that the said denial by the EFCC was coming in three different statements all within a few hours is, therefore, baffling, inexplicable, and contradictory.

It said, “Taking cognisance of the command structure of the agency, we also wonder whether Mr. Bakari could have acted on his own or read from a prepared text without recourse to the Commission, which he represents, especially as the visit and decoration was never solicited for in the first place.

“We leave the rest to discerning members of the public to read in-between the lines and make their own judgments.

“However, Ambassador or no Ambassador, the Deputy President of the Senate will not back down from his legislative efforts and advocacy as captured in his several public statements and lectures over the years.

“He will continue to push for legal and institutional reforms such as Special Anti-Graft Courts; Security of tenure and financial autonomy for the EFCC and related agencies.

“Only such reforms would fast-track justice and insulate the anti-corruption agencies from external interference and self-reversals.”

Meanwhile, attempts by our correspondent to get the official reaction of the Senate to specific allegations contained in the EFCC statement were not successful as the Spokesperson, Senator Sabi Abdullahi, did not pick his calls while a text message sent to him was returned undelivered.

EducationMinistry Of Education Removes C.R.K And I.R.S From Curriculum by boman2014(op): 10:43am On Apr 20, 2016
The Federal Ministry of Education has announced that in order to reduce the workload of primary and junior secondary pupils, they will be cutting down subjects from 20 to a maximum of ten subjects under the nine-year basic educational curriculum in order to align with International standards.

However, subjects like Christian Religious Studies (CRS) and Islamic Religious Studies (IRS), which are separately taught, will now be merged under a compulsory subject known as Religion and National Values (RNV).

PoliticsBREAKING: Court Decides On Secret Trial For Dasuki by boman2014(op): 11:10am On Apr 19, 2016
– For the third time court rejects Dasuki’s application to stop
his trial

– It also dismisses government’s bid to protect witnesses and
for the secret trial

Former national security adviser, Sambo Dasuki

The Federal High Court in Abuja has ruled its decision in the
case between former national security adviser Sambo Dasuki
and Federal government.

Justice Adeniyi Ademola, who presides over the case, has
stated that the trial must go on.

He stated that former NSA had not followed the proper
procedure of filing a disapproval charge against the federal
government.

According to the justice it was out of place for Dasuki to ask to
drop accusations against him for unweighty reasons.
Ademola consequently dismissed the former NSA’s bid to stop
his trial.

In a separate ruling on April 19, the justice dismissed a
separate application by the government seeking protection of
its 11 listed witnesses whom it said were afraid of appearing to
testify in the case for fear of reprisal.

He held that there were no strong facts to warrant the
protection of witnesses in the trial.

The justice therefore dismissed the application, stating that for
the interest of justice, the trial will be open.

Upon a request by Ahmed Raji, counsel to Dasuki, the judge
ordered the DSS to grant the defendant access to his lawyers.

Dasuki was arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes
Commission (EFCC) for supposedly diverting $2.1 billion
meant for the procurement of arms for the Nigerian army
fighting insurgents in the north-east of Nigeria.

Former NSA filed the application to stop his trial on the
grounds that the government had on several occasions
disobeyed an order of the court granting him bail.
