At least forty shops worth millions of naira have been razed to

in the Ikom local government area of Rivers state.

Eye witnesses said the conflagration started at about 2am on

efforts of shop owners to put it out.

There is currently no information on whether there were any
fatalities or injuries caused by the iferno.

The state fire service station in Ikom, which was contacted for
intervention, said it could not act due to complaints about a
lack of facilities to combat the fire.

Dozens of traders face financial ruin after the fire
The director general of the State Emergency Management
Agency, John Inaku who visited the scene for a rapid
assessment, expressed shock at the level of destruction.
Inaku said efforts would be made by the state government to
ameliorate the sufferings of the victims.

According to him the burnt shops require total rehabilitation
before going on to urge the victims to remain calm.

One of the victims, Augustine Chinedu who said he lost
virtually all his goods worth millions of naira, said it was
devastating to experience such a loss and urged government

Agwu, called on government agencies, non-governmental
organiations and philanthropic individuals and to help in

Science/TechnologyRe: Black Genetics - 5 Rarely Known Facts by boman2014(op):
Black genetics facts

You already know that black people genetics is special. It is
different from the whites’ one. We want to present you several
interesting facts about it, which you have hardly heard about
before. They are:

1. Black people are stronger. According to the research by
Cornell University, the Europeans’ genetics have had
more harmful mutations than African one. Besides, many
black people were slaves, which made them even
stronger. They were used as labor force. Of course,
nowadays anyone can become stronger by means of
constant training. However, black ones has tendency to
it. Another proof of their strength is fast development of
babies. For instance, African kid needs just three months
to crawl (while the white baby requires 4 months more).

2. Black people are more diverse. The studies show that
their genetics possesses much more varieties in
comparison with Europeans.

https://naij-ask.cdnprof.com/questions/24020-d228d9-1jpeg.jpg

3. More complex image of evolution in genes. One of the
ancestors of African origin has both ancient and modern
features in the appearance. It proves that development of
black people was more complex.

https://naij-ask.cdnprof.com/questions/24020-cefb97-1.jpg

4. Melanin health benefits. It's frequently called miracle
that African population has such a complexion. First of
all, it gives an outstanding protection from negative
effects and ultraviolet radiation. Moreover, it can even
fight against any other kinds of existent radiation and
prevent skin from aging. It may surprise you, but
melanin is able to absorb energy (such as sound or
light) and convert it into reusable one.

https://naij-ask.cdnprof.com/questions/24020-cead39-1.jpg

5. Wonderful sprinters. You have probably noticed that the
majority of top world runners are black ones. It isn't
coincidence. The recent study claims that the reason of it
is their special muscle composition. It allows them to
become the most anaerobically efficient sportsmen. It is
also connected with the way their bodies process energy.
Moreover, it is proven that Africans (especially Kenyans)
have greater endurance. It is because little ammonia
accumulation in muscles from protein combustion as
well as less lactic acid buildup. There are more muscle
enzymes in their bodies, which burn fats. Besides, their
glycogen reserves are not burnt very fast.

https://naij-ask.cdnprof.com/questions/24020-e7e992-1.jpg

You see, there are many differences between black and white
people. All of them are unique, but according to facts listed
above, Africans are much more interesting from point of view
of genetics.

https://naij-ask.cdnprof.com/questions/24020-4e7bb6-1jpeg.jpg

Genetics of black people is extremely exciting. Many scientists
still try to study it and carry out various researches. More and
more interesting facts are discovered every day.

Genes can influence many important things, such as
appearance, behavior, skills, and so on. Being an African, you
may have really nice chances to become a great athlete.

Moreover, it is also essential to pay attention to groups and
genotypes of blood, before having a baby. The outcomes might
be different, because terrible diseases are inherited by children
as well. Thus, be very attentive to your health ad take all the
benefits of your black genetics.

Blood genotype and marriage
As it's been said, a lot of people pay attention to genes to find appropriate marriage partner. Your choice might affect not only your personal compatibility, but also the health of your future kids.
Blood genotype refers to hemoglobin gene constituents. You should know there exist various types of hemoglobin. As all genes are in pairs, it’s vital that not more than one of them appears to be abnormal (AC, AS). Otherwise, problem may appear. The list of all possible genotypes includes the following variations:
https://naij-ask.cdnprof.com/questions/24020-b76af4-1jpeg.jpg

*AA (normal),
*SC (ban condition with recurrent anemia),
*AC (no symptoms, the carrier),
*AS (no symptoms, the carrier),
*SS or CC (sickle cell disease).
Now let’s observe the compatibility of partners:

1. AA - AA. It is kind of perfect match. Your future children are absolutely safe. There is no necessity for you to think about genotypes.
2. AA - AS. We’ve said that there is no danger in this case either. The worst thing that can happen is that all your children will be AS. Such kids may finally marry people with AS genotype, and serious risks may finally arise.
3. AS - AS. It is better not to marry, when both partners have such type.
4. AS - SS. It's even worse, because the danger is higher. Your kids will be AS or SS, and it's not good at all.
5. SS - SS. In such case, there is not any opportunity to avoid disease, that's why it’s better not to have children. Otherwise, they may suffer for all life.
Concerning the blood groups, there are the following variations: O, A, B, and AB.
It is also a hereditary thing and depends on blood groups of both parents. You may pay attention to the Rhesus factor as well, as it sometimes helps to immunize your little ones.
Science/TechnologyBlack Genetics - 5 Rarely Known Facts by boman2014(op): 9:44am On Mar 29, 2016
Is black genetic special? Does it differ much from all the others? Find out some amazing facts on this topic.

Every person on the Earth is unique. However, many scientists claim that black genetics is much more interesting and peculiar. There are many interesting facts about black people, which can be explained only by their genes.
https://naij-ask.cdnprof.com/questions/24020-4e6a35-1-800x469.jpg

For a plain person, it is impossible to find out all about genetics immediately. Nevertheless, you must know about this issue a bit more. It will allow you to understand features of black genetics and its importance better. Thus, in general, it's study of genes, their variations, and heredity in any living organisms. It is mostly the issue of biology, but many other sciences are interested in it as well.

Influential characteristics of genes
It might be hard to understand why many people are so interested in this field. However, if you know what great impact it has on our life, you will never ask such a question. Genes may define many essential things in our appearance and behavior. Plenty of couples consult the specialists about blood groups and genotypes, as they want to have healthy children or just prefer to make sure their health is all right.
https://naij-ask.cdnprof.com/questions/24020-5cb8d4-1.jpg
Thus, genes may affect the following peculiarities of a person:

1. Behavior. Children usually resemble their parents. For example, if they adults are aggressive, their kids will probably be the same.
2. Appearance. Combination of alleles, which you inherit from parents may be the same or different. For example, various types may have an impact on person’s eyes color (so, you might have, for instance, gray or green ones). Besides, genes can influence ability to taste bitter tasting compound.
3. Diseases. There are particular illnesses, which also may be received from parents (or even grandparents). In this case, blood genotypes are extremely important for the future family. It especially concerns African people, who're prone to sickle cell disease.
4. Character. Sometimes even some traits might be inherited by children. If a parent is attentive and smart, his or her kid might grow up the same. However, growing up vital here as well.
5. Talents and skills. Some people say it is controversial; the others are sure that our babies can receive certain skills from us. If you are gifted singer or composer, your child can be keen on music or have a wonderful voice. These are common features, which might be influenced by genes. That’s why nowadays many Nigerians are so interested in genetics.

PoliticsOjukwu Warned Us Not To Fight Another Biafra War - Ikokwu by boman2014(op): 8:52am On Mar 25, 2016
Chief Guy Ikokwu who fought alongside Chief Chukwuemeka
Odumegwu Ojukwu during the Biafra civil war has urged Igbos
clamouring for an independent Biafra state to desist from it
and heed to the warning of Ojukwu who warned that another
Biafra war must never be fought.

In an interview with Vanguard, Ikokwu who was a second
republic politician and Anambra State Chairman of the defunct
Nigeria Peoples Party however urged the federal government to
realize the agitation was a wake-up call to restructure the
country.

He said: ‘’Generally speaking and in line with what Chief
Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, who was the first leader of
Biafra said, our people should not go for a second civil war. It
is in public domain. It is on Youtube and video. Anybody can
play it and listen to what he said.

“Saying that, he said history should be a lesson not only for
Nigeria but also for Igbo people and that the grave
implications of a civil war are such that the initiators do not
normally know where it would end and who and who would
suffer.

“In the first civil war, the majority of those who suffered were
the innocent people. More than a million people died and they
were not the ones who started the war or were fighting the
war.

“He said a second civil is not in the best interest of Nigeria,
that Nigeria should learn its own lesson and understand that
the Igbo always add value to anywhere they go. To any
situation they are called upon, they add value. They never go
anywhere to deteriorate the existing situation.

“Not only that they are so flexible that they can change their
culture – language and dressing that they and the natives will
almost look alike; that the main thing Nigeria should do is to
restructure the country into fiscal federalism as our founding
fathers – Herbert Macauley, Nnamdi Azikiwe, Obafemi
Awolowo, Ahmadu Bello, Dennis Osadebey, MI Okpara , etc,
who agitated and got. They fought for a federal structure and
this is embedded in our national anthem – in diversity we
stand, there is unity in diversity.

‘’That is where the Igbo stand. There should be unity in
diversity. We should use the diverse abilities of each group. The
Yoruba have where they excel. The Urhobo, Hausa, Fulani, Tiv,
Nupe, Kanuri, etc, each have where they excel. Use all these
diversifications to promote a united front so that on the whole,
the whole nation will rise up and be better for it.

“That is where we stand. There should be justice, equity and
fair-play. Once these three things are given, you will not find
any more resentment or demonstration by youths. At the
moment, majority of Nigerians believe in the six zonal
structure.

On the continued detention of Nnamdi Kanu, Ikokwu said it
was his release was important as the Radio Biafra he manged
was not a crime.

‘’The issue of Radio Biafra is not treasonable. Radio Biafra is
digital instrument registered in United Kingdom or America.
“It is not the first time. Professor Wole Soyinka had Radio
Kudirat, done abroad and broadcasting to Nigeria. NADECO
endorsed such foreign radios by Nigerians.

“It is a matter of freedom of information. If Kanu is guilty of
treason on account of Radio Biafra then millions of Nigerians
are guilty of treason in the social media because it is a digital
matter now. You take your smart phone and say whatever you
like – good, bad, rubbish, exemplary, etc.”

5. Hatshepsut

The list of ancient African queens will continue
Hatshepsut. Hatshepsut is a female Pharaoh of the New
kingdom of Ancient Egypt from the XVIII dynasty.

https://naij-ask.cdnprof.com/questions/24178-e7ebe3-5-500x313.jpg

The queen Hatshepsut was a daughter of the third
Pharaoh Tutmos I and queen Yakhmes. During lifetime
of the father, Hatshepsut became the "Spouse of God" –
the Supreme priestess of God Amon. Hatshepsut was the
only woman in the history of Egypt, who managed to set
up a double crown of Egypt on the head.

https://naij-ask.cdnprof.com/questions/24178-888757-55-500x323.jpg

Hatshepsut has secular and religious honor. She was
represented, as it was necessary to the real Pharaoh,
with Osiris's attributes, with the beard attached under a
chin.

After death of the father, she has married the stepbrother
Tutmos II. When he has died at quite early age, Tutmos
III became his only heir. Hatshepsut ruled the state
instead of him within 22 years.

The board of Hatshepsut has marked itself as prosperity
and eminence of Egypt. From all spheres of the state
activity, Hatshepsut has proved herself, first of all, as the
Pharaoh-builder. The queen has restored a set of the
monuments destroyed by conquerors.

However, the reign of Hatshepsut is a historical riddle.
Her name isn't in lists of the Pharaohs of Egypt which
have remained on plates of the Egyptian temples.
Pharaohs also ignored her in chronic and all inscriptions
about her in Karnack Temple are shattered.

By tradition, all wives of Pharaoh had to be sacrificed and buried with the governor. But the son of the dead, young Amenhotep IV has rescued Nefertiti from death and made her his spouse. It is easy to guess that on such courageous step the young man was pushed by strong love. He signed each state order with an oath in eternal love for God and Nefertiti.
https://naij-ask.cdnprof.com/questions/24178-153da3-44-500x374.jpg
Nefertiti was a virtuoso in policy and ability to convince. She advised the husband to refuse gods of ancestors and accept her own religion. Pharaoh declared the wife as a queen and ordered people listen to her. Nefertiti decided to destroy ancient temples.

People silently accepted new religion and prayed in sunshine each day. The queen often came to a palace balcony and showered Egyptians with gold coins, convincing that these are gifts of new God. In holidays, she artistically addressed citizens, hypnotizing crowd with her speeches.

However, the couple had only daughters and when the sixth girl was born, the king had to take the new wife. She was young Kiya who has given birth to Tutankhamun and provided continuation of dynasty. Nefertiti had to leave the palace and live out of town, bringing up Tutankhamun as the successor of throne. Year later the grieving Pharaoh returned the first wife to the rooms.

Soon the expelled priests united and made religious revolution. The Pharaoh was blinded and then executed, 35-year-old Nefertiti managed to govern some time. But as a result, the queen was killed all the same. The risen priests have destroyed all temples and the city. Nefertiti's tomb was plundered, and the body was ruthlessly spoiled.

And suddenly in 2003 the British archeologist Dr. Joann Fletcher has declared to the whole world that he has found Nefertiti's mummy. Scientists conducted a number of digital researches and established that appearance of the mummified stranger completely coincides with Nefertiti's image on ancient sculptures!
