That is how they keep sharing and wasting our money. No wonder they want to kill and die in those offices and never want to leave. |
Krankhead:That is irrelevant. I am expressing my view on a topic. It seems you just discovered the internet. |
By Stanley Uhegbu …GIVES FIRST READING TO RIVERS STATE INDEPENDENT ELECTORAL COMMISSION (AMENDMENT) BILL The Rivers State House of Assembly at its 120th Legislative Sitting, on Wednesday, further amended the Rivers State Local Government Law No. 5 of 2018 and other matters connected thereto. Before passing the Bill, the House debated on the pros and cons of the Bill; and thereafter, in line with the rules of the House resolved into Committee of the Whole and gave the Bill clause by clause consideration. Contributing on the Bill, Members commended the sponsor of the Bill, describing it as an essential amendment that will engender smooth and uninterrupted democratic administration at the Local Government level. Commenting on the Bill, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Martin Amaewhule posited that the intendment of the Bill is to amend Section 9(2), (3) and (4)of the Principal Law to empower the House of Assembly via resolution to extend the tenure of elected Chairmen and Councilors, where it is considered impracticable to hold Local Government elections before the expiration of their three years in office; adding that the amendment is to ensure that Local Government elections are conducted before the expiration of the outgoing Local Government administration. Adumbrating further, the Speaker stated that upon the expiration of the tenure of the outgoing Local Government administration, the Governor shall swear in the newly elected Chairmen and Vice Chairmen of the Councils, but where the Governor is unable or fails to perform the duty, the House shall by resolution mandate Judicial Officers or Magistrates to perform the task; stressing that the progressive intendment of the Bill cannot be overemphasized. In a similar development, the House gave First Reading to the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (Amendment) Bill, sponsored by Hon. Linda Somiari- Stewart, Member representing Okrika Constituency; which is a Bill for a Law to amend the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission Law No 2 of 2018. Presenting the Bill, Hon. Linda Stewart submitted that the Bill seeks to amend Section 20 of the Principal Law, and when passed may be cited as the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (Amendment) Law, 2024. The opinions of the American people do not matter to these politicians. They have their own agenda. Very undemocratic. |
thesicilian:It is a well-known occurrence. People like you are why evil thrives. Condemn evil. Perhaps you are a perpetrator. |
Waste of time. |
We should have ended diplomatic relations with this country and others like it which treat us with contempt. The leaders of Nigeria are not serious. I don't know if it is because of religious sentiments that UAE keeps getting away with their rubbish. |
Confused people. Suddenly, you all voted for Sim Fubara. That is what they will keep doing instead of holding the governor accountable. 2027 will come with nothing to show. |
The usual posturing from the enabler. |
Obaseki is a serial betrayer. He needs to be taught a lesson for all the nonsense he has done and keeps doing in Edo State. |
seunmsg:Exactly. The speech of the governor was political. Just because some people couldn't decipher it, doesn't mean others couldn't. Akpabio was one of those who understood the political undertones and responded. The governor is not a saint. He is also struggling for political power. It was in a bid to preserve himself that the assembly was burnt and other acts done. This was the man who prior to the election, EFCC was after him. Did he turn himself in? They all struggle for power. Akpabio simply called him out on the hypocrisy. |
Contriman:You deserve to be banned for life from this platform. It is a shame people are able to view what you wrote. |
That's his business. Since that is his only problem in life. |
Stop interfering with nature. Leave these animals alone in the wild. Stop keeping them in a zoo. |
This little country always chasing clout. |
The money budgeted for it has been cornered. |
Diligence:Story. What has been done to those criminals who burnt the House of Assembly? Governor Fubara's Chief of Staff, Edison Ehie is wanted for terrorism, arson and murder but he is hiding in the Government House. |
Reckless move. Israel has no remorse for its atrocities. |
What kind of legal system is this? A matter has gotten to the supreme court, a decision has been made and yet the company is going back to dance around in a so called constitutional court? Justice delayed is justice denied. |
Nothing will come out of it. Politicians do this all the time, including building medical centres that remain empty. |
Doing anything to steal intellectual property. So embarrassing. Let them adopt a totally distinct name or shut it down. They can do that in China but not in your country. |
Rationing? What a shame in 2024. How can you have a good economy when you are still grappling with the basics? Shame again. |
Greedy lots. Get them arrested. I'm yet to see the good this agency has done. Just accepting bribes and living large. Former president Buhari just destabilized this country and squandered our resources. |
Thundafireseun:But you will spend in Naira. When you guys finally collapse this economy, you will then rest. The predators will become the prey. If you like hide in a mansion, it is your security that will devour you first. This unpatriotic mentality is part of the problem. Better move to America where it is the official legal tender. How will your currency ever be strong with all this predatory maneuvers? Pity. |
Insatiable greed and unpatriotism are fuelling this. |
juliuscaesar:It is Oshiomole that failed to teach the infamous Obaseki a lesson. The state would have been ungovernable for him. That rubbish he got away with can't be done anywhere without facing resistance. It is the docility of the people. His notoriety will haunt him forever. Once he leaves office, he should be taught a lesson. He is now trying to make amends. |
That is what we always hear. Corrupt politicians. State governors do nothing in this country. Their new obsession is state police to use, oppress and cause chaos. |
I knew he was irredeemably corrupt after the leaks on YouTube from Sahara Reporters. |
That is what happens in every election. This country should just operate a two-party system and let people stop deceiving themselves. |
Instead of asking Fubara to account for the allocations received so far, these unserious and jobless people are doing thanksgiving services, looking for who to give them government money to share away their destiny. Lazy people. |
The level of unseriousness on the part of some or even most Nigerians is why this country remains stagnant. Take Rivers State for example, ever since the Supreme Court delivered its judgement on the 25th of January, all you hear are adverts everywhere and thanksgiving services. Instead of asking how the governor is using our resources so far, they are looking for how to get and share what I term as political money, since what most people do nowadays is politics. It is a shame. |
