EducationOAU Ile-Ife To Reform E-learning In Education by born2lead01(op):
OAU Moves to Reform e-Learning
in Education By Emma Okonji

Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife is strategising to reform e-learning as next paradigm shift in 21st century education, following the launch of its Centre of Excellence in software engineering recently at the University.

The centre, which was supported by Step-B/World Bank with a grant of $5.6 million has the following facilities: Internet access laboratory, software studio, cloud computing centre, Telepresence, hardware design and software engineering laboratories respectively.

The Nigerian Skye Bank also supported the project with a building worth N180 million. The facility which is the first of its kind, has the capacity to accommodate about 1200 students per use.

The establishment of the centre of excellence in software engineering is expected to solve the challenges of training Science and Technology teachers in the 21st century.

If fully utilised the centre is also expected to address paucity of educational software that utilises teaching aids such as simulation, animations and graphics for teaching and learning of science and technology post basic courses.

Unveiling the centre recently , the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Bamitale Omole, told the gathering that the major mission of the University with respect to Information and Communications Technology (ICT), as documented in the Strategic Plan (2010-2015), was to run a cost efficient and effective academic programmes and institutional management. He said with the facilities at the centre, teachers and students could interact seamlessly without having to be together in the traditional classroom environment.

With most Universities embracing e- learning globally with modern technologies, he disclosed that the mission was to develop ICT to a level such that it would serve as backbone of the university’s development strategy in teaching, curriculum development, innovation, research, administration and service.

During the tour of the facilities within the Centre, Head of Department, Computer Science, Prof. Adesola Aderounmu, who doubles as the Vice President, Nigeria Compute Society (NCS), explained that the centre would create enabling environment for imparting knowledge in science and technology using ICT driven, participatory and student centre teaching and learning approaches.

According to him, the goal of the centre was to develop the required local science and technology human resources for the nation's post basic institutions with built-in functional ICT capacity. Explaining further the benefits of the facilities, he said the telepresence had been equipped with Huawei TP3118 product, which is tri-screen telepresence system with one row of conference tables seating eighteen participants.

This, he said, would bring people together in a best ever virtual meeting experience. "Synergy between people creates value, reduces cost and help to stay ahead of competition. Lecture delivery to large class and web conferencing are some of the advantages of using the facilities", Aderounmu said.

According to him, the Cloud Computing environment consists of 7.7 TB cloud server for applications and operating systems and cloud storage of 96TB with 500 virtual terminals. With CaaS as one of the services deployed in the OAU cloud, he added that web conferencing, video communication services, emails among others, would help the academic community in e-learning environment.

A memorandum of understanding was also signed between the University and Chams Plc on technical partnership for development of software applications and solutions.

As a way of ensuring implementation of the memorandum, OAU shall make available office space and work area for the project coordinators and group developers within the university premises while Chams shall provide necessary tools for every developer on the team.

Chrisvicmall is doing a good job but Ifeanyi their representative in Nigeria will definately spoil their business. I didn't want to post this before but i think i'm fast loosing my patience.

My shipment of about 63kg was sent to me in Akure by Ifeanyi thru a haulage bus after he collected #3,500 few months back. I was happy despite the fact that i knew he paid #1000 and pocket #2500. I called him to let him know that i knew how much he paid the transport company and he didn't deny it.

Now i shipped two items with the combine weight that is less than 1kg. Chrisvicmall "mistakenly" shipped it separately. When it arrived lagos,Ifeanyi called and insisted that i paid #1,700 before he could send it which i did. On getting my product i discovered it wasn't complete and contacted Elena. She apologised and shipped the remaining part only for Ifeanyi to insist that i pay another #1,500 before he can send it to me.

I contacted Elena and she told me that she has lost control over Ifeanyi that only Victor can control him. Victor number has not been going thru neither is he available for chatting. How on earth do you expect me to pay #3,200 to transport my goods from Lagos to Akure when Chrisvicmall collected #1,670 to ship the two from China to Nigeria when i know fully well that the transport company will not charge more than #500?

Victor really need to step into this and regulate the activity of this so called Ifeanyi. My item is now with him for the SECOND WEEK,Victor should come to the aid before this Ifeanyi of a guy spoil your work in Nigeria (my chrisvicmall username is PECULIAR)

[quote author=shinaf]hi born2lead, so you mean with much persuasion i can get a seller to ship out goods at 16$/kg on alibaba with dhl

yes. Most sellers quote outrageous shipping fees initially but when you chat with them, they will reduce the shipping fees to the minimum depending on sellers. Most of the sellers have a CORPORATE ACCOUNT with DHL and the amount DHL charges them when they ship is far far smaller to the price they charge others.

Good day and happy new week to all. Kudos to ALL that have contributed to this forum and may God reward you bountifully. I will like to share my experience so far with you guys.

I ran into this forum early May and i took time to read from season 1 to 2 and then placed my first order on aliexpress. When i got the item thru Singapore post(12 days after shipment),my best friend saw it and insisted i must sell it for her so i sold it for her and made 300% gain(although i have since compensated her with other items because i felt bad for doing that) Ever since then, most of my orders are usually thru Singaporepost with average of 11days and i do pay custom dues(though minimal#500-#100 because i buy in bulk) with receipt issued.

On procurement,i prefer Alibaba to aliexpress because the prices are too cheap. Moreso,i look at so many things before buying from a seller. I make sure that the company i'm buying from have the necessary CERTIFICATION that conform with European standards and doesn't use child labour among other things.

If i need a single item from a seller on Alibaba,i simply tell him/her that i need up to 2 times the MOQ then i start asking series of questions about the product . The seller will then BEG me to buy a sample or two and see for myself before placing the order and most time i do go back to buy their MOQ.
On shipment,DHL do charge me average of $16/kg(i think it depends on your negotiation with the seller) and i receive my goods 5th days after shipment(i live outside Lagos) but i think CHRISVICMALL is still the best (they charge $8/kg for normal shipping) aside their lack of effective communication. Always try to call and chat with them through WECHAT as those are the two ways to 'easily' get to them if you're buying thru them. The best way is to buy your goods and send it to them for shipment else be ready to sweat (lol) if you're procuring thru them.

Valuehandlers is another promising shipping company with $7.5/kg for their normal shipping (7 days) to Lagos(I haven't try them that was the price sent to me when i mailed them).

Advice for the newbies (like me). Don't be too lazy and come here to ask silly questions(like will i write my father's name when i want to pay on aliexpress),read from season 1 and take the risk; i did that and my bank account is growing fat!

Good day Chrisvicmall, you are really doing a good job and i commend you for it. However, i have the following questions for you
1. Is there any discount on orders over 20kg?
2. If i purchase directly from the manufacturer and ship to you for onward shipment to Nigeria,do you open the percel up? Or you just ship directly as it is?
3. In case my goods get lost while in transit with you, will you assume responsibility for it and replace it?(pls i need concrete and direct response on this)
4. What are the steps you're taking to ensure that your Nigeria representative(s) behave responsibly?
5. How long will it take for you to send goods to Ondo state after it arrival in Lagos from China? Please i need your prompt and sincere response. Thanks.
