This guy may well be innocent. The family's story sounds plausible. Seems like the promoter is the one that actually used the stolen credit card to book him for his next show. Unfortunately, he (Danny) was arrested since he was the one trying to board the flight. He likely had no clue that the idiot promoter used a stolen credit card.

I'll explain. Majority of these guys rent these jets. He tried to use a stolen (someone else's) credit card to pay for the charges to rent the jet. He tried several stolen cards until one if them worked. They have prove that he was using their app in his phone for these transactions, and where he was using it from. It's a crime to use someone else's credit card. It's called credit card fraud!

Used Iphones are just difficult to buy period! Even here in the US. First of all, there is no reason why the seller should be setting up Icloud for you. That in itself sounds fishy! As others said, you need to verify that the device is clean and is not icloud locked. My advice...do not buy it if it sounds too good to be true. No be buy force to use iphone. I personally can't stand all the nonesense associated with the device anyway. I just like the itunes interface. So my old Iphone 4 just sits in my car as a music player.

Like I said - When you come to America, the first person you stay with can influence your success in America. So please be very careful, hosts can influence your goals and once you derail, hardly do people get back on track.

Another big problem that will make immigrants fail- The Naija mentality - The moment you decide to emigrate - Please leave all your Naija orientation at MMIA, they do not work here. When you come back home you can pick it from where you left it at the airport.

Supplus cash mentality - Some people will come here and the first thing they do is to go into spending spree- thinking they will hit a job that will rain dollars ...you will become stranded faster than you think because US is not an excess cash economy..before you will earn $1..walahi you go work.

"My helper ooo " mentality - it is only in Nigeria that the song will work- here your only helper is God. If you think you have an uncle or aunt that will feed or accomodate you for free here , I am sorry for you. They can welcome you the 1st or 2nd week but after that wahala go start, even your own siblings will tell you the koko!!

Neighborhood mentality - Nigerians in US are not too entertaining - US is an individualistic society- leave your village connection at the MMIA airport. No uneccessary visitation, give notice before you go visiting people even if they used to be your village paddy - Emeka wey you sabi for Nigeria is not the same Emeka thay have lived in US - face your mission here - build your own life - it's only in Nigeria that you are friends with all the people on your street.

No. From his postings, I know he is not in the South-Side (It's over 95% black, but very few Nigerians live there). He is in the South Suburbs. South side is closer to downtown proper. For the most part, most of the south suburbs are crime free. Of course, there are some south suburbs that have their own share of crime. I am in the far north West suburbs...about 55 miles (about 90 kilometers) from downtown Chicago.

Before there was United to Houston (no more now though) and Delta to Atlanta, that both fly direct to US, we've had to fly through Europe to get to Lagos. I have flown BA, Lufthansa, KLM, Air France, Iberia. On all of them, the flight between US and their respective Home Hub is super! The flight to Lagos is always a totally different story. From the Old aircraft they use, to the food, the service itself...pretty much everything. Period! Of course, the flight between US and their home country is usually at least 98% white, while the flight to Lagos is the exact opposite. Bottom line, they treat us differently. Each of them probably have their reasons for this, but that's just the way it is.

Some of those buglaries posted above really take away from the beauty of the windows and house in general. Unfortunately, this is the situation we find ourselves in if we build in Naija. Provide your own water, your own electricity, your own security, and so on......

Those sprinklers need SERIOUS water presure to function. It's no telling if the water source in this house will be able to supply the required pressure. In my experience, the water pressure in a lot of homes I have been to in Naija is just mediocre at best.

This is not to make an excuse for the Fire Fighting Service, But when you are in a country like Nigeria, where nothing works, if you have the resources do the little you can to protect yourself.

Absolutely! A failed nation indeed. In most cases you dial 911 they (Fire, Police, and ambulance) are at your door in less than 5 mins. 911 triggers a call to all of them. Unless you specifically talk to the operator and state the nature of your iussue.

A few years ago, I was sitting in my car in my garage, setting up the BMW assisit in the car for the first time, so I mistakenly pressed the button that triggers an emergency call for assistance. I canceled it instantly! Well within 2 minutes or so (still sitting in the car), I saw the police pull up. The officer said they got a call for assistance. Of course, they used GPS to locate where the call came from (my house). Talk about efficiency! I just expllained to her that I pressed the assist button by mistake.

Nigeria needs to spend more to improve the basic infrastructure that would at least give someone some level of security and confidence about living there. Probably more fire fire stations, strategically located. Of course, the water issue is another major problem.

Kenya, is a major tourist destination. Especially for folks in the western world. A lot of people from here in US visit the place just for their wild life and safari. That's one of the reasons Nairobi proper looks more like any city in the Western world.

Absolutely! There is no accountability at all. If a work is performed and it's not up to par, or as promised, then person that did the job has to own up and fix it, or return the money he was paid. I can't imagine this is correct (that some top executive has a dedicated driver, etc. as you said). Very unlikely! I catch the train with owners of multi million $ companies here in Chicago. We all head into the city for work. Very Rich or Poor, we all catch the same train. Now some TOP executives that travel for work - That usually pop in on Monday and are out to their respective cities (Houston to Chicago for example) on Thursday evening or Friday, may have a Limo pick and drop them at the airport, but that's about it. No company here will give you a chauffer and all that stuff they do in Nigeria.

For anyone that's migrating here to the US legally, I'd say go for it. As long as you can work hard, you can make it. You may need to go to school to improve your chances of getting better jobs, unless you just want to do minimum wage job. As an illegal, you cannot get any good job. Since you have to be paid in cash. Jobs like cab/Uber driver (A lot of Nigerians do that here in Chicago), etc. are still possible without papers I believe. But the drivers lLicense offices in most states are now requiring proof of resident/citizen before issuing or renewing a drivers license. Only 2 or 3 states are still not requiring that. So, driving cab/uber is getting more difficult for illegals. Just not too many options if you are illegal period! The US has an E-verify thing that every new employee has to go through. So, no chance for if you are illegal.

Common people! is it by force to buy these items from Aliexpress. There are more negative reviews about this company than positive, and Nigerians are still trying to take the risk. Just google for "scam by aliexpress". That should tell you all you need to know.

How did she get robbed. I can't imagine an uber driver would do something this stupid. Now, it could be that she actually forgot the bag in the Taxi. Tehn, it's up to the ubber driver to try to locate her, if they have enough information on her. If he actually robbed her, as she claimed, then he must be an idiot!

What the poster was saying is that - if you haave a "Blood related" family member in the US on Green card or a Citizen, they can file your green card for you, but the waiting period is 7 years before you can actually get the green card.

It's good to see all these informative stuff regarding solar power, generator, etc. All in the name of "close to constant" power supply. I am sitting here imagining what life would be like in Nigeria if there was constant power supply, and we do not have to depend on these alternative means. It's unfortunate that as part of building a house, one has to factor in all this things in order to be able to live comfortably.

I see some arguments on here and just SMH. Honestly, I believe some of us Nigerians have been so blinded by these deplorable conditions, that we are undermining the importance of constant electricity, security, availability of running water, stable Govt, etc. This generation is doomed!

The key points mentioned in OP's post - Electricity and Safety alone are enough for anyone to choose to live in Ghana over our own country. What's the joy of living in a big old mansion, but you have to turn on some freaking generator to be comfortable!

This issue of comparing Nigeria and Ghana has been over flogged and debated for a very long time.

As a Nigeria currently based in Ghana and married to a Ghanaian lady, I would say that:

Food: It depends on the cook like someone mentioned earlier and we can't factually opine that Nigerian food is better or Ghanaian food is better. But one thing that I know is a fact is that Nigeria has more variety in foods than Ghana.

Security: As the OP mentioned, Ghana is secure not because their security forces are that good but mostly because the crime wave is low and the average Ghanaian is more law abiding than the average Nigerian. They have more respect for constituted authority.
For starters, criminals in Nigeria are much more sophisticated than their Ghanaian counterparts. We have heard stories of robbers using explosives to rob banks in Nigeria but in Ghana, this does not happen. Ghanaian police does not yet have experience of these kind of violent and sophisticated crime operations. In Ghana, most banks don't use revolving doors like banks in Nigeria. Some even still use sliding glass doors.
The Ghanaian police are much more professional and cautious than their Nigerian counterparts. Countless times, they've let me off with just a warning and without paying a bribe.
I have also had a case where I paid for an apartment that was still occupied and after I reported to the Police, they did a professional job and made sure I got back my money.
Also, Ghanaian police does not harrass innocent citizens in checkpoints like Nigerian police. Once they see you respect them and have good manner of approach, you can get away with anything.

Road Networks: Yes it is true that most of the national highways in Ghana are single carriage ways. Roads like Aflao-Tema, Accra-Winneba-Cape Coast-Takoradi all the way to Cote d'Ivoire border are all mostly single carriage.
Also Accra-Kumasi-Kintampo-Tamale-Wale Wale-Bolgatanga till Burkina Faso border at Paga are all mostly single carriage ways. But the amazing thing is that most of these roads are well maintained and in good condition.
Nigeria has better road network than Ghana. Both innercity roads and national highways but Ghanaian highways are more maintained. This fact is not debatable.

Business climate: It is much more easier to run a business in Ghana than Nigeria. Only disadvantage in Ghana is their high capital requirement for foreigners to register business. But in terms of ease of doing business, Ghana is better in all ramifications and with less bureaucracy than Nigeria. When I was registering my company in Ghana, I lost my Tax Id No certificate which was given to me. I was surprised when I walked to the GRA office at Ministries in Accra and explained to someone there. He just asked for my name and checked it on the system and printed a new one for me. He did this within a minute and without asking for egunje.
It is also easier to clear goods from Tema port than it is from Lagos ports.
Startups have more likelihood of surviving in Ghana than in Nigeria and Ghanaian businesses men and women have more access to credit facilities than Nigeria.
The disadvantage in Ghana is that they don't have the population and purchasing power that we have in Nigeria. As a result of the high cost of living in Ghana, most households spend a higher percentage of their income on food alone and will have little or less to spend on other things that they don't consider important.
This is the reason why business moves faster in Nigeria than Ghana.

Cost of living: Ghana has a very high cost of living even with their stable electricity compared to Nigeria. Example, a bottle of coke in Ghana is about 2 cedis (200 naira) but in Nigeria now it is about 70-80 naira (0.7-0.8 cedis).
Also bottle of canned malta guiness goes for 150 naira retail in Nigeria but in Ghana, it is about 3 cedis (300 naira). I actually know a friend that imports drinks from Nigeria to sell in Ghana and he is making a killing from it.
This is the case in other goods and services.
In terms of transport, the fare from point A to point B are the same no matter the time of the day in Ghana unlike in Nigeria where this is not the case and before any increase in transport fares, the transport unions meet and agree on a particular amount to add to a specified route.
Their transport sector is more organized.
Coming to the airlines, they are never late. On many occasions that I have used African World Airlines and Starbow Airlines from Accra to Tamale, they are always on schedule. And even on the Accra-Lagos route, this is the same thing. We cannot say the same of Nigerian airlines like Arikair.

In summary, I would say that both countries have their weak and strong points. If Ghana had the money that Nigeria has earned over the years, they would have done better.
From what I can see, the achievements and heights that Ghana has reached is commensurate with their earnings over the years. They have achieved more with less while Nigeria has achieved less with much.

Just my 2 cents.

Bottom line - Buying (especially expensive items) from them is hit/miss. Buy at your own risk. Remember, they are mainly a front for 3rd party sellers.

Let's not underestimate the IMPORTANCE of these 2 things - Peace and Stable electricity. A lot of folks would rather have these than the less peacefule and absolute lack of electricity that exists in Nigeria. Without constant electricity a lot of things are not possible. Without that Nigeria will continue to be behind!

It all depends on your expenses. Where you live, if you have a family, etc. Federal income taxes alone will be 28%, then there is state tax, and a couple other taxes. Though the federal tax is the main one. If you are single, and live VERY modestly, then I'll say Yes, it can be done. The bottom line is it will vary from one individual to another. In some cities 100K is not much, while in some cities it will take you a long way.

Remember that they are Chinese company, and different sellers sell stuff through them. Also, the reviews on them are a mixed bag. With a little bit more bad reviews than good. I personally will not buy anything from them. I almost bought my ASUS Zenfone 2 from them to ship to me in the US (That was before ASUS USA had the phone on their website). Good thing I held back. Just about everyone that posted about buying from them posted about how to get a refund in the ASUS forum. Either the phone never arrived, or a totally different version of the phone arrived. Bottom line, be weary of buying any "high priced" item from them.

OP, slight correction - LTE band 4 is a USA/North America LTE band. So most of the phones sold in Nigeria will not have it since it's not used there. And , you are absolutely correct. - the GLO LTE band 28 is a very rare band, so a lot of devices (even those sold in Nigeria) do not have that band. I suspect GLO will have to deploy their LTE on one of the more common bands in the near future.

I do not consider myself from a wealthy family. Came here on a student visa, and my dad was the one that took care of everything. Both bachelor's and master's degrees. He sent money for school/living every year for 6 years. He did that for all of us 6 kids. 3 are here and 3 in London. This was a long time ago though, when the Naira had value. After schooling we all took it from there, to get stay, etc. Also, did part-time jobs while in school.

That's very possible. Depending on your focus, you may need to take some remedial courses just to bring you up to speed. I am basing this on USA standards. I have worked with software developers with a non-IT BS degree. For examnple, mathematice, Engineering, and even Businness/finance. Of course, they all had masters degree in IT. As I said, if you focus is programming for example, you may have to take some remedial programming courses in order to meet the prerequisites of the IT degree.
