Yes, the city proper (South and West sides) does have a lot of blacks. Chicago is one of the cities a lot of blacks from the south moved to during the civil rights days. A lot of prominent blacks also got their start in Chicago. The movie 'Chiraq' is not neccessarily a good depiction of Chicago. Most of the shooting is concentrated on the run down areas of the West and South side.

In my opinion, Chicago is one of the best metropolitan (BIG) cities in the US to live in. Just check out Wiki for more info. No need to rehash anything here.

orbis:
It seems they have a lot of blacks in Chicago. Whats the info about ghe socalled Chiraq.....is it downdown Chicago or the shooting is statewide

Nigeria is getting there small small. I do agree though that the resorts in Naija needs a lot more work/maintenance. And may be some more marketing. Yes, I can attest to the beaches and resorts in Aruba and the Bahamas. We were actually just in Punta Cana last month. Awesome beaches there as well.

RighteousI:
All these nigerians trying to form as if their country is a holiday destination. You better go to the bahamas or aruba if you want white sand and blue ocean.

Nice review. Thanks for sharing. Visited La Campagne Tropicana Beach Resort in 2015 when I was there with family (Just for the day). It was okay.

Wakaholic:
I had an amazing experience with the happiest people on earth when we escaped from the hustle and bustle of the City of Lagos, to the charming Inagbe Grand Resorts & Leisure set on the serene banks of the magnificent Lagos Lagoon and the Atlantic Ocean.

This beautiful resort is a hidden paradise located on Inagbe Island, which is about 15mins boat ride from Victoria Island. We set out from the Regatta Jetty on Queens Drive (now Oyinkan Abayomi Drive) in Ikoyi area of Lagos on a charter boat and had a memorable experience exploring this stunning resort which captures the essence of nature, culture and tradition.

Pros

Customer service here is top-notch. On a scale of 1 to 10, they rate an easy 9. From the refined and warm welcome we received from the staff when we arrived at the VIP Jetty, to their cheerful attitude and willingness to assist, as well as timely response to issues.Worthy of commendation is the amazing Yinka who assisted us throughout our stay. She was pleasant and attended to our needs which included answering every question we had and taking numerous pictures of us at every angle we thought necessary…(Lol) She also checked on us first thing in the morning to inquire where we would prefer to have breakfast. The staff here are pleasant, courteous and cheerful.
The resort is beautiful and peaceful. The view of the lagoon from the ‘floating bar’ and watching the sun set is a fascinating experience every visitor should have.
The food was great. We had a buffet specially arranged for us at the ‘floating bar’ and we got complimentary coconut drinks. Now, that was something… We also had complimentary breakfast in the morning and that was great too.

Cons

The rooms require attention to details and proper maintenance. We checked into a two bedroom chalet that had a terrible smell. We returned to our apartment about 10pm and discovered that the tap wasn’t running. The intercom wasn’t working so we had to walk all the way to the reception to get help. Eventually we were upgraded to the six bedroom apartment shortly before midnight. I slept like a baby; my room had the ocean view so I woke up to the calmness and peace of the environment.
Wifi was free but very poor.

Okay. Enjoy your vacation.

Owolarbie:
bro i plan to go to Indiana with my family on a tour around Indiana as i already booked and paid for a bus cruise around Indiana . i heard Indiana is a lovely place to be so i want to be part of it . i booked a hotel in Indiana already Holiday Inn for 5days before we proceed to North Carolina for 6days then back to New York for 4days then finally to Indiana as our take off location to Naija.
TravelRe: U.S Visit: Port Of Entry Interview/stories. by Bossman(m): 6:27pm On Aug 01, 2017
Why Indianapolis? Atlanta and Washington are much closer to North Carolina, than Indianapolis. You can just get bus to your destination from Atlanta. Flying domestic to NC from ATL will be much cheaper and easier than Indianapolis.

Owolarbie:
Good day everyone.

Thanks for this enlightening thread.

We (wife, kid and I) will be travelling to the U.S next month and it's our first visit to America.

Our application stated Noth Carolina as destination but tickets are so expensive this summer that we decided to book a flight by Air france to Indianapolis and intend to get a domestic flight or Bus from Indiana to North Carolina the same week. We have booked to stay in a hotel In Indiana for 6days and another 6 in north Carolina. i dont know if coming though indiana would be a problem for us since we are just coming for a family vacation . our flight is from Naija to France to Atlanta then to Indiana . anybody with Atlanta POE experience huh help a brother !!!!!!
Car TalkRe: Benz Vs BMW – Which Is Actually Better? by Bossman(m): 6:23pm On Jul 31, 2017
I could not have said it better. Absolute waste of time! As I posted earlier, these are very similar cars that what one lacks in one area, it makes up in another area. Some choose BMW because of certain things, and some choose a Benz due to the same reasons.

Geez! In general, we need to get away from turning every thread into an argument.

oyienootieno:
From experience they are both on the same level. Comparing them is a waste of time, what A lacks in a section they may it up in another section where B will be lacking.

Car TalkRe: Benz Vs BMW – Which Is Actually Better? by Bossman(m): 4:10pm On Jul 31, 2017
In general, we (Nigerians) grew up and have been configured to think when one is driving a benz he has arrived. Because that's all we saw back then and even till today. Our parents, uncles, etc. all drive one. However, in the western world, it's a totally different story. These cars go neck-to-neck in features and sales. With BMW edging out Benz for most of the years. When it was time for me to buy one of these cars in 2011. I went to the respective dealerships and drove 2011 the brand new models for all of them in this order - Benz E class, Audi A6, and BMW 535IX. The driving dynamics, driver engagement, the luxury and looks of the BMW swayed me. And that's what I chose. Still enjoying every moment of it.
PropertiesRe: General Topic Thread-To Discuss Anything And Everything in Building Construction by Bossman(m): 6:50pm On Jul 28, 2017
grin grin grin Naija oni baje o. The checks and balances here and the rest of the western world are what sets these countries apart. To put any structural addition to your house, even a deck or patio, you have to get a permit. My house is colonial, so I decided to add a porch a few years back. Besides getting the permit for the construction, there were 2 inspections done. One when the skeleton/pillars were erected and the second one what it was totally finished and attached to the rest of the bldg. The construction guy was telling me that they had to make sure the pillars can withstand certain weight, and that when it's attached to the building, it's done very well that it can withstand a certain certain Gusts of wind, etc.

As already mentioned, Yes, it's possible. This is usually via the H1-B program. A lot of software developers, mostly from India, have used to come to the US. However, the new administration has made that option very difficult now. First of all, you skills/degree has to be in one of those that it has been determined there is a shortage.

If you are connecting, make sure you have enough time to get into JFK, then take the shuttle to EWR and then on to your destination. If you miss your flight, they should be able to put you on the next flight.

plenty options for JFK to EWR shuttle - https://www.google.com/search?q=shuttle+from+jfk+to+ewr&rlz=1C1CHFX_enUS704US704&oq=shuttle+from+JFK+&aqs=chrome.2.0j69i57j0l4.7687j0j7&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8

valeria:
This is great to hear. it may be a cheaper option, as long as i have the domestic tickets already purchased.

Anyone with airlines or sites i could purchase domestic tickets from? i may purchase just a one way ticket considering we will have more luggage on the return trip and i am not sure what the baggage allowance will be.

My final question is: Will there be extra scrutiny at POE because i am arriving at a different airport from my final destination? In trying to save cost i am looking at the possibility of not missing a domestic flight after i must have made payment earlier. This is becoming hectic and my current considerations are: re-routing our international flight to Miami (ticket booked over a month ago and we are on a budget) or spending the summer in New York.

Please advice. God bless you all and I cant wait to share my POE transcript here
@Seyewest you are doing a great job. Thanks

Your Naija phone will certainly roam here. It will either roam on AT&T or T-mobile and show that on the screen. The Naija mobile networks themselves do NOT work here. I turn on my Naija MTN and GLO sims every 3 months or so, to record an activity (send txt or topup). Been using the same Naija numbers for almost 7 years and been able to keep them active this way. .

It's certainly much cheaper to live there. And it may well be what your fiancee can afford. There are actually a lot of Nigerians on the South Side and North side due to affordability and it's proximity to downtown. Some of the South suburbs are quite safe and not overly expensive as well. I personally live in the North West Suburbs.

It's the law of the land. The guys did what they had to, to get him off the train. They have the right to issue him a ticket and ask him to hop off at the next stop. They must have told him to get off, but he refused. I ride the trains every weekday here in Chicago...it's the same thing that will be done here. Actually, they could have called the police for him, and that would have made matters worse for him.

Some of us just come here, open our mouth and spit out nonsense! There are rules and laws in place in these countries, and if you do not obey them, you'll pay the price.

Haba! The city of Chicago has crime in some specific areas, namely the south side and West side. And even that, majority of these crimes happen only in certain neighborhoods of these areas. Chicago, as a city, is one of the best BIG cities to live in in the US. I am in the suburb of Chicago downtown about 54 miles (86 kilometers) from downtown Chicago. However, I commute downtown for work by train. And I will not live in any other US city. As eh 3rd largest city in the US, tons of of companies have their Corporate headquarters here. There is no US major city that does not have its own crime problems. Agreed -There were a couple of years there where Chicago was the leader. However, let's not use that one negative news to paint such a beautiful city. I can tell you that a good majority of the Nigerians (Chicago is one of the US cities with the most Nigerians) that live here have very positive things to say.

Suggest as in what? Learning C++ is equally a good idea. As I said already, the key thing is to make sure you have a very good grasp of the fundamentals of computer programming. Again, any specific question regarding programming can be posted in the programming forum. You will get more answers there.

I would suggest an Objected Oriented language such as Java. However any programming language that teaches the fundamentals of Object Oriented programming would do. Once the fundamentals are mastered, switching to another such language is just a matter of learning the syntax, for the most part.

Let's not derail this thread any further. You can post any further questions to the programming forum here. You will get the appropriate responses there. I also pop in there occasionally.

bro thanks for your response.
my question for you is what should be the first programming language for a newbie to start with.

Programming is all about problem solving. So it goes with Math hand-in-hand. In general, those that are good in math tend to be more successful in programming. It comes natural to them. Not saying if you are not good in math you can't be successful in this field. However, if you really dislike math/problem solving, I believe you will have a hard time being a programmer. Having said that, the math course that's most relevant is 'Discrete Mathematics'. There is no "real" computer science curriculum that will not include this course. I am telling you - those that come into this field primarily for the money because it pays well, and do not have the affinity for problem solving, tend not to be successful doing it. I have worked with plenty of developers and interviewed quite a number of Junior developers, so I can attest to it.

One thing is certain - It pay quite well, and there is not too many of us (blacks) doing it. So if one can face it squarely, it is a good field to go into.

electronic:
LoL you wan discourage the guy?
He needs some Maths to get busy. If he has such math background he won't be complaining...
He needs a head start and basic Mary is more than enough to get things done. He could actually build hundreds of money spinning apps with little maths knowledge...

Regarding the accident, you got it totally wrong! FrankNetter hit the guy from the rear, so he (FrankNetter) is at fault. Not the Mexican guy. FrankNetter is actually very lucky the guy (who may be illegal) decided not to get the police involved. Otherwise, Ffanknetter's insurance would have been fully liable for the guys repairs and any medical expenses. Had they chosen to file medical claims. I put it this way...FrankNetter hit the right person. LOL!

Originalsly:
Just caught up!...on accident. ... that's basically a hit and run. The guy should've settled with you on the spot...paid you cash.... otherwise.... call the Police. Any other agreement ... the Police would write a report which would serve as evidence if he fails to keep his promise. If he doesn't want to settle then the Police and your insurance should've been informed. If the cost of repairs is greater than the value of the car... the car would've been written off and you paid the value. As it is now... the truck driver can accuse you of hit and run. Always....either settle on spot or make a report.
On your new job... you got it good. You never know what Military vets know.... guess you now be like just going to hang out and get paid. In time he may arrange to have you drop the agency which is receiving a percentage of your pay. You'll make quite a bit more.
On predestination..... at times things happen for a reason..... if predestination is real... we can do nothing to change the outcome... so why even bother? ...you take care of today and tomorrow will take care of itself.
Great thread!
