Yes, an honest mistake was made on your part, but that certainly does not give the other person the right to the funds. What a slowpoke! Honestly goes a long way in the world. The interim rate will subsist pending the conclusion of the study of the Determination of Cost Based Pricing for Mobile Voice Termination Rates.

Yeah. Much more expensive now for us to call Nigeria now. Whatsapp, etc. has eased that a little bit though, since we can make calls via those apps. However, still have to endure the crazy expensive rates to call those that are not using such apps.

Not a bad deal. However, as already noted, most people no longer make voice calls via the network. It's done via apps like whasapp, etc. So, it's more important for them to improve their data network. Carriers no longer make money from voice calls. Data is the wave.

The GLO LTE band is one of the least used LTE bands in the world. So, it makes no sense for manufacturers to include it on their devices. Only some high-end and very few mid-range devices support that LTE band 28(700MHz) used by GLO

My guess is that they had to reduce the price of their mifi in order to boost the usage of their LTE network. They must have done some analysis, and determined that there was rarely any usage of their LTE network. They deployed their LTE on one hell of a rarely used LTE band! Majority of the phones out there (with the exception of some high-end ones) do NOT support that band. Just based on the number and type of devices being used in Nigeria, my guess is that at least 95% of them would not support the GLO LTE band. There is a good chance that GLO will add one of the more common LTE bands - 3(1800), 8(900), 20(800), and 7(2600) as soon as they can.

In technical jargon, they are not the same. However, when it comes to phones, they are considered the same by phone manufacturers. You will more than likely see phones that say 4G LTE. Your phone will either show 4G (as my asus zenfone 2 does), or it will say LTE. LTE is pretty much a 4G technology. The same exact thing as it relates to phones, period!

Yes, that's the gist going on around here in diaspora. The cost to call Naija has tripled. It makes a difference to those of us bases abroad that have to call elderly parents or family members that are not on whatsapp, etc.

Most 4G phones should support all the 4g bands I see above except the rarely used band 28 that GLO is using. I suspect GLO will add one of the more common $G bands as times go on. More than 98% of the phones used in Nigeria today will not have band 28.

This is good to know. However, it's useless to more than 98% of Nigerians. Very few phones support the LTE band 28 that GLO is using.

There are different versions for different regions. Yours just happens to be for the region that does not need that band 28.

Compared to all the other sites out there, GSM Arena is the most authoritative and accurate.

It's very easy to check what band your device supports yourself. Just go to GSMArena and type you phone model in there. It's the most authoritative website as far as phone specs are concerned.

Also, if you are already connected to LTE, or of your phone is showing 4G, and you are not sure if it's "real", Android users can download "LTE Discovery" or "Signal Check". These apps will tell you if you are connected to LTE or not, and what band you are actually connected to. Depending on where I am at, and the time of the day, my zenfone 2 shows between bands 2(1900), 3(1800), 4(1700/2100), 5(850), and 17(700) when I check via any of these 2 apps.

Your phone is an at&t variant, hence why it's displaying 4G instead of H or H+. At&t coin its 3.75 as 4G, for marketing purpose.

Yeah. Those are all USA LTE bands. Slight correction though, I am an AT&T customer. In the USA on AT&T, if your phone displays 4G or LTE, it means you are connected to their LTE network. The international phones, like my ASUS Zenfone 2 displays 4G when on the LTE network. Phones sold by AT&T proper will actually show LTE. I have several phones on AT&T so, I know this for sure.

Very few phones will support all the 4G bands used by all the carriers in Nigeria. for example MTN uses band 7 and 20. GLO uses band 28. I believe Etisalat uses band 3. Most of the later model Iphones and some of the higher end Samsung and Motorola phones support all these bands. Same thing with the ASUS zenphone 2 and 3. Actually, the bands used by MTN and etisalat are very common bands used in Europe/Asia. So, most of the LTE devices out there will support these bands. The band 28 used by GLO is not common at all!

It is listed as having one of the bands MTN uses for 4G, band 7.

Actually, thet band 28 is so uncommon it's almost funny. See the LIst by country here. Band 28 is listed for a few countries in South America - Brazil, Chile, Belize, Panama, etc. What a joke GLO!

When I first heard the news about the controversial glo 4G LTE, I suspected some phishing deal.
For instance; when mtn was about to launch its 4G, the news was in everywhere for several months.
So Ntel too.
Now all of a sudden, glo just came out to announced this ridiculous 4G that has zero value.

The most annoying part is that, they (glo) are fully aware of this lack of supported devices yet they are sending sms to people to approach their offices for LTE activation.

Old men/women with touch light phones who have no Idea on browsing the internet over crowded glo office yesterday just because of the sms they received that they should go and upgrade their sim for LTE .

This whole idea is to monetize the stuff cus I doubt if glo truly supports 4G yet.

And GLO deployed their LTE on the very rarely used band 28(700). As I posted in the other threads, verify that, if your phone has 4G, it has the correct 4G bands that your network is using. AS already posted, MTN deployed their LTE on the other common LTE bands. 7 and 20. So, your device should get LTE on that network.

4G LTE network is currently dominating the Nigeria telecom and while most network providers are transmitting with popular frequency band like band 3(1800MHz), 7(2600MHz) and 8(900), Glo on the other hand have decided to settle for frequency band 28(700) which is not supported by most affordable 4g smartphones in Nigeria. which means even if you own a 4g smartphone, there is still a great chance that it won't work with the Glo 4g network.

So if you happen to be a Glo user, one of those you will always have in mind when searching for a 4g smartphone is to look out for the one that will be compatible with the network band. Folks - please take the time to read and understand the issue here. As has been posted already, There are several 4G/LTE bands used in several countries. Unfortunately, GLO deployed their LTE network on only one band 28 (I expect that to change), and it happens to be one of the least used LTE bands. So, a lot of manufacturers do not include this band on their devices.

Yes, your phone is 4G/LTE alright, but it may not have the very uncommon band 28 that GLO is using. For example, my device, ASUS ZenFone 2, has 8 LTE bands including the ones used by MTN/Etisatlat, but it does NOT have band 28.

Instead of asking here, just go to gsmarena, type your phone model in, and under network it will indicate the bands it supports. Or just Google 'your phone model specs'

For those using android devices - To confirm if you are actually connected to LTE (regardless of what your phone shows), and to see what specific band you are connected to you can use any of these apps 'LTE Discovery" or "Signal Check'.

Exactly! That is my plan when the time comes. I'm just a family of 4, so I do not need any big old duplex.

There are very cute 5 bedroom bungalow. You don't need to build a duplex to please anyone. The money you will spend decking can be used to put nice finishing to your bungalow. You can go for duplex but if it's just to impress friends it's not worth it. Having a bungalow with a very fine outer view and nice compound is the deal if you ask me. You can even make it 1 master bedroom, 3 bedrooms for kids, 1 main large sitting room and 1 children sitting room. This will be 4 bedrooms and 2 sitting rooms instead of 5 bedrooms.

This is a personal decision. It really depends on what your needs are and how many people may be living there. For a family of say 4 or less, a bungalow is just fine. For a larger family, then a duplex is better. Even if money is not the problem, it makes no sense to over-build if it will not be used.

First of all - there should NOT be a separate charge to use 4G. It just makes o sense. It's just another way these folks are milking Nigerians. If you have a 4G capable device, then you should be able to use the damn thing Not having to cough up extra fee for it. Come on MTN! This kind of crap does not happen in the western world. 4G service has been long overdue in Nigeria, and the consumers should not be made to pay extra for it. Hopefully some consumer advocates can take this up. Makes no sense!

Udiboy, have you looked into Transfast? Their rates are usually about 10 naira less than the going market rate. And they charge 1.5% of the transfer amount. You have to walk into one of their brick and mortar stores to get this rate. The last transfer I did was done at 345 naira. I got a txt from my first bank, within 1 minutes of doing the transfer. Heck! Before I could even finish looking at the receipt the woman gave me. I transfered 2K and paid $30 fee. To me, it's safer and all about peace of mind.
